"I thought he was with you" is one of my favorite lines in a while
yeah especially after that yord line 😁
Yep, that was genuinely funny
I even think he's being honest here, he's probably just straight up startled they don't have their ducks in order this badly
Legit was my favorite part of this show.
that line and , "was that it's name"
dudes got the delivery down
really makes the acting from maeosha look so much worse in comparison but nothing can ruin this for me, i liked the series alot
We have to be careful not to confuse empathy with sympathy. Master Sol only cares about his own emotions and not Osha and everyone else's feelings. He made a lot of assumptions, and that lead to him having sympathy for Osha. That sympathy came more from him understanding his own emotions. That's not empathy. Masters Indara even told him, "Do not confuse what Osha wants with what you want."
Empathy is when you understand other people's emotions, but empathy is not an emotion, it's an understanding. Sympathy is an emotion.
It's made even more tricky because the coven legitimately was attempting to hold Osha there and Osha legitimately wanted to leave despite their desire to keep her as their religious figure. He may have his own faults in the situation with lying to Osha about his mistakes (him attacking Aniseya is more complicated because she was using power he wasn't familiar with and he responded defensively), but that doesn't make Aniseya (for attacking Torbin's mind and increasing tension between the groups), Torbin (for recklessly instigating conflict in a selfish ploy to get out of his mission), Sol (for mixing his valid concerns for Osha's safety with his own affinity towards her, eventually prioritizing their relationship over her agency), Koril (for riling up Mae and the other witches into becoming hostile), Mae (for being so jealous and domineering towards her sister that she'd threatened to kill her for wanting to not be a part of the coven) and Indara (making the conspiracy in the first place to clean up after Torbin and Sol's mess rather than them facing the counsel) are all at fal to som
Good analysis.
Vernestra Rwoh pulls off her face to reveal that "all along, it was ME, DIO!"
...and then unleashes "ZA WARUDO!"™ to Force stop time! OH MY MAKER!
"if it weren't for those pesky twins I would have gotten away with it!"
Unlike most other fans, I don't have any major problems with The Acolyte as a show, I'm just happy to be able to see more of "The Galaxy far, far away", no matter what form that it may come in. I do think some things about the direction of the show are absolutely ridiculous though, and the biggest one is the approach being taken for the relationship between Osha and Mae.
I'm not even going to try and scratch the surface of the more complex issues between them because I'm not getting paid to write this, but I have to point out at least the main thing that bothers me. It's Mae's view (at least the one she had as a child) that she and her sister should "share everything". I understand that they were supposedly split from one consciousness, but Mae is essentially trying to say that the correct way to live life is to live an identical life to her sister. I 100% side with Osha on that issue, she wants to have her own things, she wants to make her own decisions, she wants her own personality, identity, and she wants her own life.
She should, she absolutely should want and have those things. The fact that Mae thinks that is wrong tells me that there is something fundamentally off with Mae, to the point that I'd potentially classify it as a legitimate mental illness, or possibly a major psychological issue. What really bothers me is that (at least in some smaller ways) the show tries to frame things in a way that both sides have valid points, but in this case, in this specific case, they don't. Osha is right and Mae is completely wrong in the way they want to identify themselves.
Now Osha isn't always right of course, her misplaced faith in the Jedi is a shining example of that, but most people can at least relate to her in some ways. She wants to get out of her little bubble and "see the world" so to speak, and she sees the Jedi order as potentially her only realistic way of doing that; and I cant entirely blame her for that, she was/is a child/very young after all.
I could probably rant a while longer but it doesnt seem worth the time or effort, I just wanted to point out something I saw as so odd.
One thing to note also is that there has been clues that Sol does not really have nearly as strong connection to Osha as he thinks. There has now been several moments in the series where Sol confuses Osha for Mae, whereas by comparison, Qimir has always been able to tell which one is which.
Little girl is looking sad counting pennies eyeing the candy machine.
Adult subconsciously hands over pocket change to the child.
Darth Vader in the original trilogy had remarkable control over himself, while Luke got angry and ran into battle swinging wildly.
Tbf, Luke started training quite late😅
That was the point. Luke was struggling with the dark side, and the moment when he realizes it and throws down his saber, and calls himself a Jedi, that is the fulfilling moment of his character arc.
Vader had mellowed in the Original Trilogy.
I mean episodes 1-3 are Anakin learning why you don't run in and get your limbs hacked off left and right.
If Vader really hadn't learned 20 years later, I think we'd all be pretty disappointed in him.

Your insights here are so needed in our modern world. To not blindly follow someone because they say they are from one side or another. To judge individuals by their actions, regardless of what side they identify from. You brought tears to my eyes. May we all follow this wisdom in this broken world.
“There are three groups left. Sol and Mae.”
My boy Bazil gets no respect!
I think you mean Darth Bazil. It was Bazil all along.
Your theory is a sensible way to tie up the show. I agree Sol will die fighting Qimir but I also think Vernestra is tied into this in a way we haven't seen yet, and yes she will cover up the whole thing so Qi Adi Mundi's comment will make sense and the Sith will stay hidden.
I'm not so sure that Qimer is a Sith. I think he's more likely a Jedi gone dark. Sith don't just use practice the dark side, they worship it and are basically insane. Qimer practices both sides which is something a true Sith would never do.
Just watched it and your Vernestra prediction was right!
Best analysis online! Excellent breakdown, Thanks!
Thank you again for doing what a UA-camr should do. Break it down and make predictions and not just crap all over it in bad faith. You’ve said you don’t love the show and that’s fine, it’s not the greatest show I’ve ever seen, but it’s Star Wars. As someone who saw Empire in the theatre and who waited 16 years for any new Star Wars content (sorry, the books and comics just don’t do it for me) I’m happy to see any new content. I also saw how Return of the Jedi was the end of Star Wars because of the Ewoks. Then how Star Wars was ruined because of the prequels. How animated “kids” show destroyed the franchise, how Disney ruined everything and now how Acolyte now destroyed it too. No one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans. Whichever one you started with is the greatest and flawless and everything after is the worst. Thank you for what you do.
L take to not like the books and comics.
Bruh who said the animated shows ruined Star Wars? Almost everyone loves them, expect for some lame ones later like resistance.
I don’t think this way, the first one I saw was episode 1 which I loved but it isn’t my favorite, and the last thing won’t always be the worse cuz I loved andor so this is just a gross generalization and just dumb Whiny shit.
Star Wars fans are mad cuz they want good content and they want to enjoy the series they love but we keep getting shit, that’s the issue not to say there are just haters now too ofc.
This show is trash that is a fact, and you can break it down and explain why it’s shit there is nothing wrong with that, Gen Tech just wants to be more positive which is fine even when I disagree with him.
I suggest you check out Thor Skywalker he’s a great guy who’s critical of new Star Wars yet he is not so hateful he tries to be fair.
@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls my point was more that when new stuff comes out it gets bashed until times passes and then it’s seen as good (or great). I’m sure on another 10 years the sequels will be seen as masterpieces. I’m not saying that I love all of the new stuff. Even Andor was panned when it first came out and now it’s the best Star Wars since….(insert your favorite here). I guess I’m being critical of SWT (I unfollowed) because he would rate episodes as a 0 or negative numbers and just bash anything and everything. My UA-cam feed was just full of him having a hissy fit. I get it dude you don’t like it move on. (Him not you). I think the acolyte is ok. I wanna see how the wrap it all up and honestly, since I don’t read all the books, which most aren’t cannon anyhow, I don’t care if they break from the old EU. I just wanna watch a show, have some fun, think a little bit about how not applies to my life, ethics, politics or whatever. I like watching breakdowns like GT’s that make me think even more. All of the stuff happening right now just seems so toxic. I know it was after episode 1, the Jar Jar actor almost committed suicide, but it just feels so much more in my face this time.
@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls Billtuba didn't say those things ruined Star Wars... He is saying that there have always been people that complain when any new media is added to the Star Wars universe. I also saw the originals in theatre (ROTJ), and yes older fans did in fact get upset that Ewoks were in Return of the Jedi, I was very young but I remember it. When the prequels then the animated series came out people were also outraged, it happens constantly within a certain part of the fanbase. The Acolyte IS good and lots of people enjoy it. What I personally didn't get into were the animated series, that just wasn't for me, but that's fine, not everything in a franchise needs to cater to everyone, I certainly don't begrudge those that do like it. There's enough stories for everyone to find something they like, just let people enjoy what they do and you can enjoy what parts you do, know what I mean?
@@Billtuba Sometimes not always, and No the sequel trilogy should never be seen as good let alone a fucked masterpiece if you think then you are delusional illiterate fucken moron don’t ever say that fucken stupid shit ever again, it’s already bad enough we have idiots who defend those awful movies I can cut slack to those causals who turn their brains off and just enjoyed it cuz they don’t look too much into it yet I don’t like those pseudo intellectual morons who defend the story and characters as if it is good at all when it is almost completely awful dogshit so do not get me fucken start on this shit.
Sorry but that pissed me off. There is a difference between enjoyment and quality so I can cut some people slack but it pisses me off when morons argue bad shit is actually good.
Andor is a different situation is probably closer to the prequels situation than sequels. Andor was first seen as why tho cuz it was about a side character but when it came out people loved it cuz of how good it was mostly, the issue was it came out after many were unhappy with Star Wars so many didn’t even bother watching it which is why it was panned. But there is a group of idiots who say it isn’t Star Wars cuz they have a basic dumbass view of the series which is similar to the idiots who complained about the politics of the prequels even tho it’s well written and enhances the world, maybe they will come around idk.
SWT? Who? Where did this come from cuz I ain’t talking about it so why bring it up? You mean Star Wars Theory? Idk what he is doing atm tbh
L take on the books and EU, lazy af tbh. Coming from me who doesn’t read much but I can listen to audio books or someone reading it on UA-cam or videos explaining shit.
You need to think more on your own tbh cuz you just get stuff spoon fed to you it sounds like tbh but I get enjoying videos like this yet I don’t vibe with you at all.
Yeah I don’t agree with the fans who gave tons of hate to the actors I feel bad for them and that was uncalled toxicity. Back then the internet was young and so were you so you didn’t see or know about it much but now you’re older and information comes so easily so it is in your face more not to mention after awful content after awful content along with disrespectful directors and such is has brought the fans to a darker place due to this, plus the divide since modern politics was brought into the series by KK it made it more toxic and personal, I don’t like it either but it’s not the fans fault it got this way.
@@PrettyTigerlilly Yeah that is true, while I enjoyed the Ewoks subjectively I can admit objectively they are silly and off that they easily kill stormtroopers so I get why some hate it yet I don’t think it’s a big deal cuz even if it’s silly it doesn’t ruin the movie.
I never heard or seen anyone get pissed at the animated series tbh if they did then they are retards for sure. Prequels I get it was very different and they had their flaws but the pros outweighed the cons if you look at it closely it was actually good trilogy not perfect by any means ofc.
The Acolyte IS NOT GOOD only morons think that or the normies who don’t think too hard on it, there’s way too many issues in the writing like basic logical mistakes, lore breaks, and more to say it is good but you can enjoy it if you want that’s your subjective enjoyment yet don’t come to me saying it’s actually good cuz it is not objectively good by any means, just a few good things does not overshadow all the shit.
What I hate isn’t people enjoying it cuz even trash can be enjoyed by some we all have guilty pleasures but what I really hate is morons who think they are right and smart so they defend trash like a bunch of pseudo intellectuals.
It’s a shame you can’t get into animated series that’s L. I feel bad you cannot enjoy it.
People can enjoy whatever they want no one is stopping you but your opinions are not shields they can be criticized and the series are not good just cuz some like it this is illogical, if it is bad it can be broken down and explained why it is bad in a more objective manner on its writing quality and how it is as a piece of the verse, many just enjoy to rant about it cuz it is good to let it out but it is ofc not the best way to go about it.
I get what you mean but I don’t agree fully.
“Only a Sith deals in Absolutes.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Absolutely.”
that sounds about right
Yeah, neither side can ever monopolize dealing in absolutes. Both orders are fairly equal in terms of that whether the Jedi realize it or not.
As a sober examination of Force users, the Acolyte never had a chance with Disney era fans. Thank goodness for your videos...
I don’t know if it’s the fans I blame the creators and political commentators
Qimir is easily the most interesting character on the show. He is the most interesting because he is what he is. He is not someone who is bad because there is no other option, he is bad because he is bad and only challenges the other characters to prove they are not as bad as he is.
Don’t expect answers that will soothe your minds. You have to figure it out yourselves. They even said that in the show.
let me translate that : They were to dumb to write it coherently.
It still has tons of issues writing wise with the internal logic, dumb decisions, how forced it is to make the Jedi the bad guys and the fact they made twins from the force cuz it was too much to make one person is moronic not to mention just insulting the birth of Anakin by saying random witches can do the same like sure they say it’s imperfect and not as good but still this is dogshit.

I recently rewatched the first 7 episodes of *The Acolyte*, and I noticed so much more detail this time around. The dialogue between the characters makes more sense now, and I have a much deeper appreciation for the writing. I highly recommend everyone give it another watch. Thanks, Generation Tech!
I did the same. This show has so many layers. Everything said has meaning to the story and foreshadows future events
I agree. The downfall of this show is the weekly release. There are details we will overlook/forget from 5-7 weeks ago that remain relevant. I will definitely give the whole thing a rewatch as well.
Yeah with this conclusion I think the show would have been better suited for the release of a whole season at once instead of weekly releases
Who are we but our attachments in life.
I applaud you for leaving your Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy and Legends baggage at the door while reviewing this series.
Dude, you were so close. Nice work and great videos. I think this series was great, one of the best from Disney so far.
I’m so excited for tonight. Def hoping they stick the landing cause this seriously my favorite Star Wars right after Andor.
😂
Sadly, these Gen Tech videos about the Acolyte were better written than the show itself.
8 episode shows always feel slow in the middle and quick to end. Overall it was decent season, but I wish they would do 10-13 episodes.
It seems master sol channels the emotions of those around him possibly like how mace channels the energy of his opponent maybe the foundation of the lightsaber form...
Alan: Quimer didn't try to seduce Osha to the darkside..
Quimer: I'm just gonna skinny dip for a minute and ask her if she likes freedom 😏
This is about as close as we will ever get to the ending of the second Darth Bane novel being adapted.
Or whenever the hermit hut situation happened
You've helped me look at this series through a relaxed lens. I was pretty upset by having to watch the rock on fire scene 2x and that forest in a warehouse set. But I suppose I'll watch the final episode now.
I’ll watch this after and see how well you did. Devils Advocate and what not.
The kind of "love" that Mae has for Osha is Not the kind of love I'd ever want. Real love is based on genuine care & concern for another's well being over your own. Real love is respectful, it is not self centered, it does not seek to subvert the will & desires of those it claims to care for.
Mae does not truly love her sister.
Her love is the possessive, needy, boundary stomping, codependent type of "love" that is toxic. She reminds me of my Borderline P.D. mother.
It;s unfortunate that there are instances where Aniseya and Sol show this kind of love in contrast to Mae's jealousy, only for them to attempt to re-contextualize Sol as being similarly possessive and caring more about his relationship to Osha than her agency, before in turn having Mae suddenly switch to a loving, respectful sister without any meaningful build up to that change in her character, no real moment where she listens to Osha rebuke her for her treatment of her domineering treatment of her as children, her dismissal of her as her own person, at most just apologizing about starting the first that somehow destroyed a mostly stone and metal structure
Compare this to Wandavision or Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, where Wanda is forced to confront her malevolent behavior and is stripped of any means to excuse or defend her depraved actions.
Her memory being wiped further's the notion that Mae will never be given a time to confront her own actions and will simply be treated as the victim of others, nothing more. Generally speaking, these types of characters that are treated as victims and are therefore justified in committing terrible acts is a deeply flawed model of character writing, as having explainable motivations does necessarily mean they are also justifiable or not worthy of criticism, something these writers do not seem interested in exploring.
That was a great wrap-up, and the cameos were awesome
Now, switch to 19 episodes per season for four seasons and retell this with much greater detail and development
This is brilliant. Well done, as always, Alan. You're the best.

I suspect it will be an open ending, you know something that says season 2 will finish the story. I suspect it because of episode 7 being purely used for a flashback, instead of setting up the ending, like most shows with a closed ending would use their second last episode on.
Just finished it and can't wait for your next video!
I wish all of them had been this quality IMO.
Pretty good prediction, just about spot on! I commend your analytical skills. Well done!
Thanks man, another great deep dive.
Yeah, looking back Osha's always been selfish, always drawn to the dark, she didn't want to join the jedi because she wanted to be a jedi, she just wanted something of her own. Mae, on the flipside has always been selfless, yes she wanted her sister to stay, but that was as much for the greater good of the coven as for herself.
Yup, I am honest to say I did not see Osha being the "bad one" coming but EP6 really question me once she put on that helmet. I was like, wtf is she doing? The writing for the show is really good when its so subtle.
I want to see swtheory and allen have a sit down n talk starwars lol shit would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i actually liked how it ended tbh, cant wait to see tommorrows upload XD
Had to come back and say I can't wait to see what you put out tomorrow.
They really stuck the landing on this story.
Close enough! Thanks for such a contemplative analysis all along. Lots of flaws in the production of this series - but the basic story was/is actually solid. If they had told it in 3-4 longer episodes & released all at once - with some better writing - it would have been a so much better experience. But I also understand these heavier themes are not really what most Star Wars fans want to see.
Most SW fans aren't known to be critical thinkers just critical in general. They don't have the patience for heavy themes without pretty lightsabers.
Felt so quick that we got to this finale already but hey for different reasons I am just glad it’s over at this point cause I can’t stand the discourse it brought. Nonetheless, let’s see how it ends and if it creates more discourse. See you then GT!
I dont think sol will survive this episode, he has shared his side of the story and i think he is either gonna die killing qimir, or he will be killed by vernestra roe, because of what he knows
You continue to be one of my favorite UA-camrs 🎉
All Acolyte series is doing is introducing harsh reality in an otherwise idealistic saga based on the values of one man George Lucas who was very idealistic. Star Wars when first came out brought positive thoughts in a time when things weren't so great. And needed inspiration and hope. But nonetheless it was idealistic. Perhaps too idealistic. So when the Empire Strikes Back came out, people Loved it. Because it mirrors reality. Good doesn't always win out. At least not right away. And nothing is just black and white. Acolyte is a lot like empire strikes back and revenge of the sith it's reality of what the world is. And Acolyte takes it step further. It shows the great Jedi are flawed like any other person. And are capable of doing evil without knowing it. And the Sith who are the villains are capable of nobility and kindness. Once in a while. He who does good most of their life does evil despite good intentions does more damage than one who does evil continuously. great video. Thought provoking.❤
I've been stunned this entire show how accurate your predictions have been. I'm pretty sure I remember you guessing that Qimir was going to be the Sith like on episode 1 or 2 and that was amazing and now you've basically gotten this one right too. And honestly I think your version would have been better with me dying rather than this weird goodbye no way home memory loss thing. Does actress would be much better as one character in season 2 but it looks like they're going to keep the twin thing going

May was a child when she accidentally set the coven on fire.

OSHA tured her back on her family on tradition.
Idk.
My sympathy has shifted back and forth through out this series.
the path to the dark side is paved with good intentions
Please, keep up the great work.
I think we've seen the tragic flaw in Master Sol building across the episodes, while Qimir seems to be transforming from fool to a Master in his own right. I really like your depiction of the twist that has been placed on the force in this series-- It looks like the Light is the bad side while the Dark is coming off being controlled and rational. Another great analysis and I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.
Basically a Jedi who falls to the dark side is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and if you’re blind you don’t see it coming. The only part of the theory I would change is I think vernestra will see what happens in the end (the final blow) who ever it is and then she covers it up from her team and the Jedi
Osha seems selfish to me. All her actions were about her own desires. She seems set to go to the dark side.
The dark side has soup. My favorite concept.
I think Vernestra has a larger part to play, and Qimir very easily could be her former padawan. I also thought Leslye teased that we would see more Jecki and Yord, so there could also be some flashbacks. Either way, it will be interesting to see how they close out the various stories.
Thanks for your analysis of Mae and Osha's characters. Interesting to see how Episode 8 wraps up and whether The Acolyte gets greenlit for a new season.
Us viewers on the other half of the planet who wont see it until tomorrow: 😢
I love Master Sol he’s a kind normal person. The other Jedi are literally sociopaths that fail to acknowledge emotions. This is why Anakin falls a century later.
Sol failed because he's an emotional mess, and is uncharacteristic of a Jedi. The Jedi are monks that control their emotions; not fail to acknowledge them. Anakin fails because he's also too emotional and was corrupted by Palpatine.
I think that's part of the message. The jedi code is brilliant and works for people who can be 'sociopaths'. But for those it doesn't work, Sol and Anakin, it's really bad.
There is nothing wrong with anakin and Sol, it's just that asking them to give up all emotion was unrealistic
@@ericp1139 the jedi failed in providing Anakin the tools and advice in how to do so since they are taken as children before they form attachments.
@@Andalaeknir86 they were against the idea of accepting him in the first place because he was too old with too many emotional attachments.
Well its a good ending but i hope to see a 2nd season of this series man dont want to see all killed right now...
No I don’t want season 2 bc I don’t want them to ruin Yoda. I be honest overall the show is horrible and writing is so bad. The only saving grace is the fighting but the episode 3 and 7 just ruin the whole show.
The Story it self is good, the way they constructed the entire show is a very big mess... the actress that portreits Osha and Mae is a compleat mess, she really was the weaker bound of the show, and is miles away of characters with far less screnn time. I liked the kids they were fine, but the other one was bad. I think that this series could be far better if it was a film, their directors made it as if it was a film, or so it feels.
"does Osha mean anything to you?"... Occupational Safety and Health Administration AKA the fun police
How does OSHA even know what the Jedi was? I doubt the witches talked highly about them or ever mentioned them before.
She probably didn't. She was so desperate to escape Brendok, for freedom, that she jumped at the first opportunity. Had someone else shown up, she probably would've wanted to leave with them, too.
Edit: Remember, she was 8 years old.
"Why are we stuck on this planet?"
"The Jedi forced us into exile."
Just finished watching episode 8, there's a senator in that episode I'd think going to like.
Yall are so cringe, Jfc if it’s so easy go do it yourself. Armchair quarterbacks always thinking they can do better. Grow up and make your own show, stop looking for perfection
This is, without a doubt, one of the best breakdowns of a show, character profiles and status, overall reviews. That I have ever seen. Holy shit you are a master analyst.
Not quite Alan but pretty close. Great theory and thanks for the videos, overall I enjoyed the Acolyte. Was something different. Andor still my favourite so far though.
Woah quite a prediction. Great vid
Osha desires individuality, that's a form of greed. Mae is more aligned to the light side, her desire is community, family, sisterhood. That was my take from episode 3 and 4.
Amazing breakdowns.
Keep up the good work.
I was already enjoying the series for what it is. Your videos and insight have definitely increased my wife and Is viewing of it.
Gonna miss the breakdowns after tonight's finale.
Well, it just ended completely. Which is actually, "how it should have ended".
Your explanations on the show have enlightened me. Thank you good sir. Very thoughtful theory on the ending.
not too far off, very solid
Fairly close sir. Interested in your follow up.
I was really anti acolyte avid star wars fan before this video thank u for giving a counter opinion from a smart well thought out perspective
I'm genuinely wondering if there's an issue with Ohshi. She never ascended where as Mae did. If they are the same person, split through the force. Then Maes ascension is an imbalance in the force.
Very great summary👍
Fingers crossed that your theory pans out! I’m mentally preparing for a cliffhanger, though.
GOAT SW UA-camr FR man
I appreciate how you are trying to pull out the best possible from what is an underdeveloped mess. Your predictions makes sense.
Since Mae dying resulted in her resurrection at the tree, I wonder if a dual death of Mae and Osha will result in them being resurrected together at the tree. Re-united as a single, complete life instead of split into two conflicted parts. That would definitely be an interesting ending. It would be kind of ironic because that would mean that had Sol just let them both die before, they would have been joined long ago.
