  • We take a look at what Qimir has to offer to Osha in the Acolyte. It's far more nourishing than just power and the normal dark side rhetoric. I think the Jedi are in trouble.

Maybe if the Jedi had made sure Anakin’s mother had been safely removed from slavery he could have freely reduced his attachment to her.

Mmmh... the thing that nobody ever mentions is that everyone knows there are slaves in tatooine and nobody does anything about it... so I question how this Republic really sees slavery. Obviously its got laws and all within its border that prohibit slavery, but on the other hand they are totally ok walking next to a slave when they go on holidays...
So do they really see slavery as the wrong thing that it is and that we see in our reality, or do they co-exist with that concept and merely thing they are above slave as a nation... which would imply that some aren't above being slave...
Just doing some logic rethoric here... so nothing too serious.

@@CesarHILLI’m not deep on the history about this, but if we are talking republic they could say can say the galaxy is big place and they can’t fix all of it and just accept it’s there. Worst is I’ll guess enough republic senators benefit from slaves. Or at best it’s a lot of resources to try and fix the issue. It’s effectively declaring war on certain inhabitants. You can’t just jail them all on coroscant, more lethal means might need to be employed since you can’t police these areas all the time.

    • @CesarHILL
      @CesarHILL 2 місяці тому +3

@@BandClarinet3 I'm not so much talking about the political organisations as much as the personal individual believes within the Republic. Obviously you got all the corruption and stuff on the top, or the opposite the whole we are against slavery to gain votes or whatever...
I figured if a society has normalised the existence of slavery outside its boundaries it makes for a very different story than if everybody in the galaxy made slavery is illegal and it still exist illegally.
The comparison would be today perspective about slavery on the world stage, against for exemple a civilisation in history that wouldn't have had slaves within its border but still accepted its existence in countries around and managed to co-exist with civilisations that used commonly slavery.
And so I question how slavery would be perceived by the little people in such case. I suspect there'd be a lot more people that would be OK with slavery in such a context. Just because they see it when they go to other places... so yeah they wouldn't go to war with another civilisation, but the little people would definitely be affected by these interactions on a cultural level and probably would perceive it as I mentioned above.
Which is super shady when you really think about it.b

I loved the intro to this video. I'm British, not American, but we are currently undergoing a general election and its a great time to try and understand other viewpoints that we disagree with so we can understand why particular people vote for certain policies. Dividing a country prevents the flow of different ideas between different groups which is important for us to evolve as a society. I may not agree with the political views of many others, but I believe that everyone at the end of the day just wants a safe environment in which family and friends are protected.
Empathy and communication is the only way to reduce conflict between individuals of differing opinions, and if the world had more of it, I believe it would be a much more positive space.
Amazing video as always, Alan. I'm so glad we are getting a more nuanced and objective view on the institution of the jedi order through the lens of different individuals who have experienced it in different ways. Glad you're well again and I look forward to more of your content and analyses

But the Jedi didn't "fall". This is a false narrative. the Jedi were betrayed and hunted to near extinction. In the Star wars universe, The Force and thus Force users cannot be exterminated. Though they may not use the same title, or organizational structure, until the memory of the Jedi is extinguished there will always be Jedi. In our own world myths we have Knights and Samurai and Cowboys whose 15 minutes of fame, institutional structures and societal context are long gone and still there are those who call themselves such and honor the concept in ways appropriate to a newer and vastly different era.

You hit the nail on the head when it comes to the Jedi. Ones like Yoda and Qui-Gon were powerful in their own ways because they were in tune with the Force aka they were more in touch spiritually and nurtured it. The Jedi of the prequel era generally were more focused on the physical plane and kept their attention on politics, recruitment, and dogma. Kenobi became spiritually in tune after Order 66 because he transcended death and his consciousness lived on. Despite the faults of the Acolyte, it makes us aware of this because the Jedi in the show are not what we would expect them to be and are more prequel-like

The interesting thing is that Anakin fell to the dark side because of what Yoda calls "attachment", or put in a positive way, true bonding (not "friends"). I believe he fell because Jedi refused to deal with true bonding considering it an opening to the dark side. Anakin came back because of true bonding. He felt Luke was prepared to deal with it. And Luke did not want him to die, recall, he wanted his father to live, despite everything. He was prepared to let the past be the past. "Let the past go" - it's already in the OG. Don't let the past decide who you will be in the future.

I need to double check if you've covered him before but there is a sith in the Vader comic, Lord Momin. that might be worth reanalyzing in relation to what we're seeing in the Acolyte, as he saw himself not as someone to bend the force to their will but someone who was attempting to 'appease' the force. Ties in a bit with how the Jedi and Sith as they normally are tend to throw the force out of balance.

People misunderstand Mae. As you showed she was told by her mother and coven since she was born that her and osha were stronger together and she believes it. She constantly wanted to get closer with her sister and be there for eachother but Osha was always distant wanting her own path. Obviously this constant rejection of the very thing she had been told as child made her angry so she set a fire. Then when she saw the jedi do whatever they did and realized Osha died, she was fueled by revenge and hatred toward the jedi. Once finding out Osha was alive and the jedi maybe treated her well, the idea Osha was alive gave her the strength to escape Qimir to be with her again. And then when the stranger showed up she went into survival mode trying to get away and save Osha. But once Osha rejected her again the rage she had for the jedi came back but this time because they took Osha from her and turned Osha against her.

@@stevena.7022 I Always wondered about her past. Edit: Mary had Joseph, both free people, a much different situation of two parents from birth than a single mother giving birth alone and raising a son, both in bondage. Is that all so "heavily analogous"? She seems to have done well with Anakin until the Jedi arrived. That's also evidence, albeit in fiction, that single parenting or being fatherless, even from birth, isn't as bad as being woke is thought to be by so many on the extreme right.

As you said, reaching out to talk to people with different beliefs, without having to prove that you are right and they are wrong, would do wonders not just for our society but for us as individuals as well. I see it all the time. People get so close to getting a better understanding of people, but just can't stop themselves from trying to convert the other person to their own beliefs.

Lies are best hidden with a sprinkle of truth. As I said before, Palpatine used the same tactics to lure Anakin to the Dark Side, and on occasion so did Dooku and Maul to various other Force users. Whether Kimir is a full-blow Sith or just a Dark Jedi, it's clear he's up to no good, even if he has legitimate grievances with the Jedi.
And yeah I'm calling it, that scar was from Vanestra Row's light whip.

@Generation Tech. Yo. When is anyone going to realize the osha is the greedy selfish one. And Mae is the good, light sided one.
Osha was selfish angry and scared all episode 3 and was desiring to be a Jedi, while Mae was warm, loving and hurt by Osha’s abandonment.
OSHA is the dark one who desired another life with the Jedi, while Mae was forced into the life of darkness.

Let's flip the institution narrative. The witch coven is housewife only institution and Osha is ol' feminist. Are you still gonna say Osha is sefish and greedy one? That she shouldn't decide what she wants from her own life at all?
What about men sent to war aganist their will since their birth because someone at top wants just more power?
Do you want people to be mindless drones for your tasks? Like CyberLife thinks about their androids in Detroit Become Human?
Some people wants to be family caretaker, some people wants to be family provider, some people something in between. You cannot block people from being whatever they want from their life, what they are. But you can protect people from criminals who do murders for sake of murders and power.

And Qimir is clearly manipulating Osha. He just taken a broken person and now he's grooming her. Jedi are a sanitize organization and really needs an HR🤭

I have always thought that the Jedi order had a singular problem of seeing a problem and completely missing the real cause of said problem when they try to fix it. These bad decisions just compounded over the centuries to weaken the order, even though their numbers grew. One of my favorite things about legends Luke was that he really tried to fix many of these issues. He understood that it isn’t attachment or feeling emotions that’s the problem. You can feel what you feel, it’s how you control your actions that matters. I believe that him growing up in a relatively normal family, helped him understand this ultimately, when he was rebuilding the order.

Daryl Davis is one of my heroes. He isn't a perfect person, but we don't need to be. But, I do look instead of at the people I talk to but at the issues and learn to listen and explain who I am and why I believe that. I don't let it become a situation of convincing one another, but rather just telling each other things. We need to talk to each other again and get our heads out of the screen worlds we create for ourselves more often. The loss of democracy will not go with thunderous applause, but without a sound. And no, it's no quote, it's real.

This is perhaps the most thoughtful and understanding review of the force ive ever seen. Ive been a fan of star wars from the very first bit of star wars media i saw as a kid(the original trilogy, just before the prequels released) and ive been fascinated by the intricacies of its philosophies ever since. And as such ive devoured countless reviews and critiques of the philosophies of the force. But here someone has looked at these ideologies with empathy in mind.
Id really love to see what you make of the ideas of Kriea from Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.
Krieas philosophy has always been fascinating to me. I dont necessarily agree with her, but the case she makes is every bit as compelling as qimirs.
Also side note. Qimir is my favorite dark side user of all. Right up there with the Count of Serenno

One of the craziest coincidences I've had with this series is that Jedi Master Sol, especially with the shaggy hair, bears an uncanny resemblance to my Jedi Knight character I played in the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. Not only that, but I had designed the character to be somewhat conflicted between desires, duty, and old world honor; he was brash, often following gut instincts, and paid an unusual amount of attention to the stories and drama of his follower companions--even having shared romantic feelings with one of them. I stopped playing that game a long time ago, but damn, I wish I could pull up that character to look at him again.
