I think there's something important missing from this conversation. Plagueis was working against the Jedi Order long before Palpatine took up that particular mission. If he's in play here, then things like the Senate audit and even Qimir corrupting Mae and Osha to cause the kind of cover up the Jedi were forced to put in place may all be part of the Sith's plan to rot the Jedi and turn the public against them.

The Jedi's "good intentions" weren't what led to their downfall. It was their complacency, ignorance, inability to be flexible, that failed to equip Anakin with what he needed to have better judgement and not fall for Palpatine's machinations. Having "good intentions" is not the problem. Even if they never took Anakin and sat out the Clone Wars, Palpatine still would've won.

Having senate oversight of the Jedi seems like it could have been an early stage of the Sith plot to further manipulate the jedi. Palpatine does completely control the Senate by the time of ROTS. He would have defacto controlled the Jedi in that case as well. It wasn't Vernestra that destroyed the Jedi, or even Anakin or Palpatine and the Sith.... it was politics. By the time of the prequels, the Republic was a shadow of their former glory, weakened by internal corruption and massive levels of bureaucracy. And the Jedi Order was marching down the path right alongside them, following the will of the Senate or the Supreme Chancellor without question or hesitation, even when they should have clearly known they were in the wrong.
Look at how Han and some of the rebels, as well as several of Vader's officers, react to the mention of the Jedi in A New Hope... they're dismissive, unbelieving. And this isn't even 20 years after Order 66 -- the Jedi had stopped being relevant to the galaxy at large long before then. They were no longer the galaxy's peacekeepers... they were just political pawns.
If you were a wealthy and influential politician, like Padme, you could have your own private security detail of Jedi assigned to you... but if you were a poor commoner, like Shmi, then oh well, sucks to be you, don't get attached and all. The only time a commoner might interact with a Jedi is if one of their neighbors reported they had a Force sensitive child -- then the Jedi might show up looking for a new conscript. Beyond that, they're as relevant to the day-to-day lives of a Republic citizen as a random ATF or Secret Service officer is to mine -- neither of us will ever see or interact with them.

Her hiding the Sith is a huge deal. It feels like you're someone who worked on the show trying to understate how insanely her decision affects the canon. If she had told everyone, the Jedi might have actually detached themselves from politics and said "whoa, the sith are back. Give us a bit to study the old ways, we're going AWOL from the senate until they're taken care of." The only reason it got political in the prequels is because there were armies involved. But no such armies exist at this time. Therefore this is a more personal matter to deal with, not political. But of course, her not telling them MAKES it political in the future. Also Yoda is either an idiot or complicit now which completely ruins his character.

    • @tompearce5418

The Naboo Crisis and the Clone Wars represented a failure of the inward-looking Senate to manage the outer planets that joined up during the High Republic era. The Republic demanded taxation and Force sensitive children, but threw regional conflicts and lack of public services into the too-hard basket. The Separatists felt exploited and wanted to break away, but the Republic had grown too dependent on their revenue and resources to let them go. By agreeing to become generals in the Grand Army the Jedi were taking on the role of oppressors, alienating the outer planets; by attempting to overthrow Supreme Chancellor Palpatine in a military coup after the war was over the Jedi alienated the core worlds as well.

Plot points and character motivations are all over the place. You can like the nuances in regard to themes and the idea of duality and the fact that no one is ever completely good or evil. It's clear that the Senate has been given reason not to trust the Jedi. A relationship doesn't breakdown easily when there's absolute transparency and Vernestra shows that she's manipulating the truth to both her Jedi colleagues and the Senate, which is not a standard of those who carry the light. Sol was also of the same mind, when he refers to how the Senate is looking for something.. to feed their fears. When Palpatine takes the role of Chancellor and says the Jedi were attempting to topple him; the whole galaxy believed him, as from this moment with Vernestra, they were no longer a believer in democracy or the republic. Will Vernestra lie to Yoda? How many more Jedi feel they need to hide from the Senate? Will Yoda see though her?
The two parts related to Vernestra was that she sensed her padawan and said 'You?! You're alive?' to Qimir.. Wondering what their last encounter was now. Also did Jacki put Qimir at such a disadvantage, that he had to use his Shodo weapon? She was very aggressive and Qimir was struggling to keep pace.. People like allen love the franchise so much they desperately want to find good in It and i'm not convinced they always Realize how much negative they have to go through To find something positive to see.
The Acolyte was a great show. If.
You ignore the wooden acting bad casting choices, Is corley written dialogue, Storylines that were introduced as being critical and then simply abandoned. Ridiculous motivations for people's actions. Force powers that were displayed with extreme uneveness. Not to mention all the while. The show's creators are basically laughing at their own audience And telling people if you don't like the show stopwatching but
If you stop watching, you're a racist or a misogynist or anti gay or whatever.

Tbh the problem with looking at Indara as darker than Venestra is actually Lesley Headland herself because she says Indara has no idea that she would kill anyone severing the connection between the witches and Kelnacca. Yea she half covers it up but its nowhere near the dumb ass green one does to sol at the end. Bad writing.

I think Vernestra becomes more attuned to her gift for sensing impressions from the Force (past, presence, and future) while traveling through hyperspace, yet she is unable to control that aspect of her skill, which leads to the unsettling nature of her visions.

I understand quite a bit of what you said, but those Sith are still out there! The Jedi can't just hide under the sand.

They still don’t know the Sith are out there. We don’t even know if Qimir is a Sith or not.

The hit and miss factor of this show is maddening. On one hand, you have the Culture wars, and the clunky characters and spotty writing/pacing and on the other, you have some absolutely stunning performances and visuals, to go with some intriguing new characters and incredible concepts to explain the eventual downfall of the Jedi and the Republic. Yes, they took some creative license, but you had to take some risks and get out of the comfort zone. Having a dependable channel to kind of explain to us some of what is going on is a real benefit.

I enjoy your videos. I also enjoyed the acolyte. it wasn't as woke and in your face at some of the critics indicated. it wasn't incredibly well written, but it was a story and I enjoy stories.

I kind love how Vernestra describes Sol in her final mologue; someone good who did something evil to protect something he loved. Because Vernestra is doing basically the same thing. Instead of being transparent, she organizes a coverup in order to protect something she loves that being the Jedi Order.

The Jedi coverup almost sounds like something out of Metal Gear Solid.

In Babylon 5 Delenn is asked if all the 'factions' in her government ever came together. She said yes, and it was almost the end for a species.
Great show, watch it if you're able.

Many of the "cannon source police" online i think forget that this is a fictional story and somehow cannot enjoy the story put before them. Like people who cannot except the Book of Enoch because its not in the king James version of the overly edited Bible.

I watched this entire video. Allen was sitting, actually floating, in a Sith Lord throne.
But I suspect that was his evil twin, because iI believe in Democracy and the Republic.
    And, I am Generation Tech!
