In-lore obviously Godrick used the mimic veil to appear as a woman and flee. But in the gameplay it turns you into an object, so it's funny to imagine all the women and children fleeing and there's like a candelabra just walking behind them.
Did we always own an antique candlestick? No, but let's keep it to spruce up the kitchen Should I be concerned that it's trying to escape the wheelbarrow? Good point, I'll get some extra rope
I just realized most of the troll driven carts if not all of them are heading to Stormveil, suggesting that Godrick is still stealing artifacts from everyone else's kingdom.
I've never had the patience to try this but has anyone ever tried just standing on one of those carts and waiting? It would take hours of course but I've always wondered if they eventually just stop somewhere or if they go in a loop.
@@Wifgargfhaurh the one just over the bridge just past Gatefront ruins being carried by 2 trolls stops right around where the small campsite just at the start of the bridge. The campsite being the bondfire near Boc's bush trap thingy. If you think about it, that's caravan is probably from Castle Mourne considering there's a fallen carriage in the main road to Mourne due to the demi-human uprising. Also if I remember correctly there should be a troll caravan heading towards Liurnia if you take the hidden route to the side of stormveil, suggesting there's other factions stealing from Limgrave apart from Godrick, though the idea that people are sneakily doing this while calling Godrick the weakest shard bearer is hilarious.
The carriage heading towards Carian Manor holds the Carian SS, so it was either stolen and being returned or it was picked up off a fallen Carian knight and being returned home.
I'm pretty sure Godrick had that particular great rune because it should have been inherited by Godwyn the Ganked, and Godrick was the closest thing to an heir after the Black Knives purged the other Golden Lineage demigods.
Honestly, sometimes Godrick strikes me as a bit of an unsung genius He was weak but he managed to survive in this very hostile environment surrounded by individuals who were all much stronger then him especially with how he fled the capital, I mean he was succesfull in escaping and building his base at Stormveil, wasn´t he? If you know that a severely powerful foe waits outside the walls it strikes me to be smarter to flee then to seek direct conflict only this initial genius then eroded with time, probably due to everyone looking down on him and eventually gave way to his madness
A cowardly sort of genius- running away from battle, stealing an undefended castle for himself (all the heroes were at leyndell remember), stocking that castle with the most vile rejects from all the other armies, ordering his loyal bannermen to hunt down fresh tarnished to steal their limbs for his abominations… I think Godrick survived because he was so completely irrelevant during the shattering that nobody bothered to take him out, and then ultimately, there was simply nobody left to do so. Which is great lvl.1 boss material if you ask me haha.
@@victorprati7908 I'm speculating here-- Godrick probably wasn't in line to inherit anything. We know he's a distant relation, maybe even a bastard of the golden lineage. He probably survived the night of the black knives *because* he was so under the radar. What I imagine was the castle was all but deserted with everyone off fighting in the shattering, and he more or less strode in with a few retainers and his flimsy claim of lordship. And by the time anyone could challenge him on that, there was nobody left alive to do so. So not too different from from what you're implying. Apart from Godrick (who is a big liar) the only direct connection between Stormveil and the golden lineage is that Godfrey slew the storm lord as his last foe. Do you know of any other connections, implied or explicit that I'm missing?
@@___.51 (Incoming wall of text containing possible grammar eff ups due to foreign language but I really like to talk about this game so bear with me) my interpretation is that Godrick wasn't a direct descendant of Godfrey so he shouldn't have been a target of the black knife assassins (but I'm beginning to believe more in your theory than on a my own lol). I *like* to believe he's really still part of the golden lineage because Enia said so and also because he mimics the earth stomps like his ancestor does (it's probably the axe's doing but who knows if it is inherited power). And c'mon he's dextrous with an AXE it can't be all coincidence :P On the subject about the castle my loose connection is in the banished knights' armor scattered in the castle in the same way they can be found in the old Manor inside Leyndell (probably a force led by Godfrey before the capital and its army weren't established yet. ( there's an rustic looking big axe amongst other weapons struck on top of the round table). So my view goes like this: Godfrey and his knights defeated the Storm Ruler during their campaign and built Stormveil Castle then it became a relic past for the next generations of the golden lineage and since Godrick is the allegedly last of the lineage he's the rightful heir.
@@victorprati7908 I like it, frankly I assumed that Stormveil was there before Godfrey, but it makes sense that he might have built it. Take off the gold adornments and it looks a lot like the roundtable hold castle in leyndell which is definitely connected to Godfrey. I see the resemblance between Godrick and Godfrey, heck even their accent is similar which I found almost charming. And they look similar, excluding the extra arms. I think, and I'm stealing this from youtubers, Godrick apes Godfrey in every way he can-- the axe of course, but he flails it around wildly instead of wielding it with the skill Godfrey possesses when we fight him. The grafting is like a sick imitation of Godfrey's grafted beast Serosh, but instead of limiting his power, Godrick grafts to increase his power. The gold adornments on everything he owns is like a desperate cry to be recognized as a legitimate heir to the "golden" lineage, but Godfrey "shunned excess adornment". He completely misunderstands what Godfrey was in every way which makes me lol. Godrick might be my favorite character haha
No matter how crazy Godrick may seem, he is the least insane out of most of the other bosses in the game, and his servants seem to have some semblance of order and capacity for thinking compared to all the other armies.
I’m not so sure about the latter half of your statement. Many of the other soldiers and knights in the Lands Between still move in formations, utilize spells, ashes of war, and guard-counters, operate trebuchets with decent accuracy, and Radahn’s even set up ambushes against the giant beasts before the bridge to Castle Redmane with minimal casualties.
@@Strill_ I never said that he was. And the original comment specifically said "semblance of order and capacity for thinking", so I was pointing out all of the things that the others were doing that showed remnants of structure among the troops and complex thought processes.
@@CthulhuianBunny The other part is that Lucaria's standing army was primarily in mercenaries who almost immediately turned on the Academy around the same time Rennala checked out. Of all the armies, the Cuckoos are by far the least loyal and least disciplined. Which is a good lesson in why you shouldn't rely on mercenary armies.
I feel for Godrick. He suffered so much from feeling of inadequacy, from manufactured expectations of his lineage. His mind must have been beyound tortured. Sovmuch so he decided to mutilate others and them himself to satisfy something, that could never be satisfied. He is definetly a villian, but his origin is one of the more tracig.
definitely a very human demigod, maybe metaphorically and literally the _most_ human of all of them. He's no mighty hero of legend like Radahn or Malenia, he is no freakishly strong mutant like Morgott and Mohg, he can't even muster the same levels of cunning blasphemy as Rykard or Ranni. Compared to all of them? Yeah buddy I get it, your family being so much more powerful and successful than you has to weigh on the mind a lot
I did a Golden Lineage playthrough and it made the confrontation with Godrick so much more personal. Two meagre, unimportant men fighting over the scraps of ancient glory. In the end though, Godel the Gilded was able to accomplish what his cousin could only dream of.
@@semi-useful5178 I used a Greataxe, before swapping to the axe of Godrick. I planned to power-stance it with the axe of Godfrey for the endgame...before realizing it was a colossal weapon.

had he known about Runebears or Giant Shrimp... the grafting could have actually made him powerful. BEAR witness could have been much, much more. So could have been a Grafted Shrimp, instead of a dragon head
"Mighty dragon, Though art a trueborn heir..." It's ironic that he's venerating the devolved offspring of what was once the pinnacle of nature. And thus makes himself look even smaller. More pitiable. The main motif being the accretion of the spurned, the denegrated, into a slightly stronger whole, that despite it's power barely holds up to the inherent strength of individual powers in the Lands Between.
@@Blittsplitt5 The dragons found around the map, which do not wield lightning, descended from Greyoll (the big white dragon in Caelid) and have no gravel stone scales. Thus are not immortal. But even that aside proper dragons have four limbs and separate wings. The modern "dragons" in the game are drakes. They have two legs and wings melded with their front limbs. That is a drake. Which are lesser cousins of proper dragons. They aren't as majestic and powerful as the ancient ones and thus "devolved". It's even mentioned in one of the dragon related item descriptions.
@@Sercrocyes exactly this. He calls it a "trueborn heir" which is also something he feels he is himself. From watching the scene and listening to the delivery you can really get a sense that he shares a sense of kinship with the dragon. Both are the dregs of a much greater lineage, but Godrick refuses to accept that they are bottom of the barrel. He truly believes they are great for simply being connected to this ancient lineage refusing to accept how diluted and pathetic they have become in comparison.
His kinship with the wyvern is honestly a great, subtle moment most wouldn't understand until beating the Draconic Tree Sentinel. The wyverns we see are the pale shadows of the ancient dragons, and Godrick is a pale imitation of Godfrey: His view on the creature is one of very tragic understanding, of finding another being mocked for failing to live up to their ancestors.
I like to think that the legacy of the art of grafting was inspired by Godfrey himself. After all, he did merge with Serosh- the difference being that that merging seem a higher sort of magic than the grotesque grafting his descendants developed; but the principle is the same: to physically attach another being in order to earn some trait from them.
Another thing worth noting in that connection is that Serosh was there to *Hold Horah Loux back*. The "grafting" made him weaker! Something Godrick did not realize
@@logion567 That's why I think that "prime" (as much as you can call it that) Godrick didn't lack power but rather skill and confidence. I'd love to fight a version of Godrick where instead of grafting he honed his own powers and earned the respect of his demigod brethren.
If you think about it, ALL of the demigods engage in grafting. Goddrick with bodyparts. Malenia is woven together with Unalloyed Gold. Radhan isnt necessarily connected to Leonard the horse but he needs him to move around as hes missing his feet. Rykard is completely merged with the ancient serpent. Godfrey has Serosh's spirit grafted to him. And finally Radagon and Marika are the pinacle form of grafting. Completely merged together.
@@bahmot9501 I imaging a non-grafted Godrick would probably use Crucible aspects instead. Godfrey attached an animal to himself to hold back his bloodlust; what Godrick might've needed was the opposite. He needed the heart of a lion to push him to become something, rather than try to take from others. Who knows? He could have been an honorable ruler in another timeline.
Godrick kindof reminds me of Melchia from The Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver game, both were made last and recieved the poorest portion of power granted to them, both would graft body parts to their own bodies to make them stronger, and both were considered weak by their peers, the only difference is that one is a vampire and the other is a demigod and while one is delusional about himself the other is aware of his own weaknesses.
Brother, how am I only your 280th subscriber? This is one of the best lore videos I've ever seen and I've been watching souls lore since DS1. Keep it up man
Great Video XD You actually mananged to make me feel for Godrick. Being humiliated by Malenia and driven into madness by it seems to be a fate not exclusive to this guy though 😂
I beat her with the Blasphemous Blade but I’m afraid to fight her with a normal mace. Even after near-platinuming Sekiro (I only need to unlock all skills)
@@TheSuicune7 I beat her with Bloodhound Tooth because I got super lucky with some bleed on the final hit haha Looking forward to trying with a blunt Mace too XD
I beat godrick yesterday. Throughout the fight I just saw another boss to get through but when he finally fell I did begin to pity him. A boastful ego to cover up inadequacies and deep insecurities about oneself? In this he is perhaps the most humane of bosses
Godrick obviously really was a lord. He bore the Great Rune as proof of this. And it strikes me if two members of a family knew the secrets to grafting that it must be a family art. And why it is seen poorly is because the members who used it most prominantly did so not with reverence but selfish ambition in mind. So my take is it isn't that Godrick was a failure because he was unworthy of the power granted but because he was such a fool and coward he couldn't make the most of it.
Hot take: Godrick is my favorite demigod fight. He is the most horrific of them all, and has the best music in the game besides the theme, the intro music, and maybe the Lichdragon Fortissax battlesong.
Godrick, in my opinion, has the most _character_ of all the demigods. The way he taunts you, his mid-fight screams and hysteria, he really is like a disney villain in that regards; you can't help but enjoy the evil bastard he is
I’ve always felt that his death audio sounded like he no longer saw the rays of gold, like he longed to see them again, which makes sense as he would no longer be blessed because he’s resorted to grafting.
This damn game, where even that hell that seems to be there for you to just love to hate and diss, also can be analysed into a neat lore video. Props for the developers, and props for you for this as well.
I like to think that after Godfrey bested the Storm Lord he was named the lord of Stormveil castle, but already being Elden Lord he bequeathed it to his son Godwyn hence his corpse being prominent there. the castle would then fall to Godefroy who was captured in the Shattering war before finally falling under the rule of Godrick the likely great grandson of Godfrey. Also I like to think the Stormlord was Placcidusax and what we know as Stormhill was the ‘capitol’ of these primordial lands
@@Blittsplitt5 he was the Elden Lord at a time when Godfrey wasnt. The Dragonlord could very well be the storm Lord Similar to how Godfrey is ACTUALLY Hoarah Loux
Probably he did from the top of the Castle and seeing how far and fast Malenia can jump i wouldnt be surprised she just climbed that shit and beated him to dead
-We take part in grafting, quite literally, every time a remembrance is hewn into the Erdtree. -The player is told he hid by somebody that wouldn't know his mind either way. The mere fact that one of two opposing sides that passed through Stormveil was unopposed means he either chose a side or the bridge collapsed in that time span (and even that could have been intentional). More likely he saw Radahn as an ally.
@@PerfectSense77 The point of "grafting" is to take the limb of another and put it on your body to gain power. Tarnished do the same with the life essence of any creature we come across. The difference is semantic or aesthetic at best.
He's a forlorn figure. A runt among the demi-gods, too unimportant to even bother killing. The assassins passed him over and Malenia didn't even consider him enough of a threat to finish him off. It's really quite sad and it makes perfect sense that he would go to any lengths to acquire power. Not for any grand goal like the others but just to try and be even partially worthy of Godfrey's legacy. What Godrick wanted was... to matter. To be something.
@@trustmeits610pm2 what’s worse about it too is the fact that a part of him is still sane, and all he really wants to do is just go home (with someone, idk who he is referring to, Godfrey?). He’s honestly so misunderstood, by the community and the characters. I think there is more significance to Malenia sparing him though, because she would have gotten his great rune which would give her power, so maybe she had pity, or perhaps his ties with Godwyn made her sympathize (cause her and Miquella were chill with Godwyn)
@@DestroyDEI he went insane dismembering himself to try and be seen as even equal to the other demigods, but all he wanted was to return home. He’s had it rough, but still maintains a bit of sanity, and he’s a victim of the shattering like everyone else. He deserves much sympathy
I had to let Elden Ring sit a little, so I was way behind and trying to avoid spoilers, but try as I might I kept seeing references to the Mimic tear. All I saw was video titles etc, but it was obvious this mimic tear (ash) was OP, this that and the other. When I found the mimic veil, I thought I had found what everyone was raving about and was confused when I used it in a boss fight, turned into a crate and got insta-killed regardless.
I'm a big fan of godric and your style definitely did his Lord Justice this video was amazing and gives the premise to a very interesting idea for a Side Story or even as someone as mentioned a movie to see someone go from a desperate attempt at validation and driving once self to Madness
Nice Video Bro👊🏾 You blew my mind I can't wait to here your Theories about the Elden Ring Lore. Grafting is still unexplained, is it connected to the Golden Lineage or something else 🤯
I'm not sure about it honestly but there is a decent enough logic to explain why the dragon head becomes alive in the second phase of his fight. The demigods are unable to die due to the origin of their bloodline Marika sealing away part of the Elden Ring, which is the Rune of Destined Death. As a result of that and the fact they can't die, I think it's due to the fact they're constantly radiating power of runes, which are the essence of life itself, to allow for Godrick to make anything alive moreso due to it merely being attached to him if it were alive prior. Wouldn't make much sense to put a dead limb onto himself if it just hung there, right? Makes me think about those spider like children. Maybe they were illegitimate offspring Godrick used to build his army more.
IRL grafting is a practice where you can prune a branch from a fruiting tree and graft it to a different one, and both fruits will be produced. With a healthy dose of fantasy logic, we can apply the same idea to Elden Ring and see what grafting is and how it works. I think that practically anyone could graft, but it's seen as a profane practice for obvious reasons and done sparingly because of the stigma (and because a successful graft would probably be pretty hard to achieve).
A couple details I find interesting, are that the "soldiers of Goderick" are not found inside Stormveil castle. Only the exile and banished soldiers and knights are inside. The massive battlefield on the breached gate of Leyndell also is covered in corpses whose armor resembles banished knights (though not perfectly) and the direction they seemingly came from is Mt. Gelmir.
The banished knights are strange we see their armor in the round table hold and fortified Manor and volcano manor and we see them working for godrick Niall and dragon communion knights
@@Potato_Tomato-od2lzI think the sets in the Roundtable hold might just be filler. The set, by virtue of being in so many places that there are no Banished Knights, may have been given the "Banished" significance later in development. Or, it may just be a mass produced armor set from some old conflict that was just easy to make or buy.
I enjoyed this a lot bud! you make some very high quality stuff, given time you`re gonna be up there with the guys with hundreds of thousands of subs no doubt!
Hey man, really nice video! You may have already fixed it in your newer uploads, but would you mind bumping up your voice audio a bit more? Because it has so much bass, it makes it harder to focus on compared to the treble in your bgm. As for Godfrey, I also think it might be relevant to his characterization that Marika told all the demigods to pretty much war or die, and that may have spurned him on to action, evil deeds be damned.
I believe Godrick lived in Stormveil Castle before the siege of Leyndell. He joined forces with Radahn as his army marched through the castle on the way to Leyndell. When the battle turned against Radahn, Godrick used the veil he stole to flee, adding to his embarrassment as a coward. This is why his castle is full of exile soldiers and banished knights instead of Godrick’s own forces we see in Limgrave, because Godrick shunned his army for failing at Leyndell.
Say what you want to say about Godrick but out of all demigods, he was the only one who managed to maintain a semi-working government and economy in his area after the shattering. Limgrave is the least messed up of all places, with generally good enough safety, a loyal authority patrolling the place, a well-estabilished center that tends to the area, etc. Yes, he was just a cowardly weak old dude, and his pathetic state resulted in him going full psycho and starting the grafting (which was a concept severely underutilized in the game btw), but I'd say if Godrick wasn't looked down by everyone he would've been probably the best candidate for a new Elden Lord, no joke. Just look at the rest. Malenia and Radahn are maniac warmongers, Miquella and Ranni are trying to overthrow society and start anew completely, Morgott is a religiout bigot with self-hate, Mohg is a blood-obsessed maniac, Godwyn is literally beyond repair, and Rykard is... well, snek. It speaks volumes how the weakest and most miserable of all these lords were the only one who still kept order around his area and all he wanted was live up to his family's legacy.
I think you missed discussing the thorns infestations in the castle. Did Godrick attract his ancestor's attention with all the deaths from grafting? The castle seems to be slowly coming apart.
I was expecting the commentary to turn more into the esoteric. Someone mentioned the dragon, and how it's a latter generation Dragon too, nevermind the problems that come with consuming dragon hearts. But Godrick was on to something right there. For it was with Dragons that at their pinnacle, represented the totality of life. In the time of the Crucible, a Primordial Elden Ring, where you can see in the weave there exists the domains of many different Great Runes, as well as the totality of Order at its top. He never copped it though. Sure he never even valued the Crucible Knight that was hanging around him to see if there was any thoughts about the nature of Runes and of the Golden Order, of the Totality of Order itself.
What I don't understand is how he expected to get stronger by grafting a bunch of tarnished arms. Way too small for his body. It'd be like a normal person grafting baby arms instead of adult arms. Hell, why not graft a bunch of troll arms, and have weapons infused with every damage type? If I were him, though, I'd be focusing my efforts on claiming Godwyn's still living body as my own, especially once I found out Miquella and Malenia were out of commission.
In the lore he hid in stormveil castle when Radahn marched at leyndell, as told by Kenneth height. The time he disguised himself as a women was when when he failed to seized the capital with godfroy
Personally i find weird why radahn or malenia, blade of miquela, didnt take his rune. Radahn surely could have leveled all of stormveil and take it and he was both mad and crazy to challenge malenia in open combat.
Radahn never encountered Godrick during The Shattering as far as I know. As to why Malenia not only spared Godrick but allowed him to keep his Great Rune, we can only speculate. It could have been mercy on her part. The demi-gods are all related, remember. Maybe she actually liked Godrick and didn't want to hurt him. He grew up to be a deranged madman, but the boy Godrick once was may have been kind and friendly. It could also be that Godrick's groveling appealed to Malenia's vanity and she allowed herself to be flattered into letting him go. Malenia describes herself as a servant of Miquella, even though by rights they should be equals. She seems to acknowledge that Miquella is the brains and she is the brawn. It's possible that while Malenia isn't stupid, she doesn't do anything momentous that Miquella doesn't expressly tell her to. With no orders to kill Godrick, she might have been waiting to ask Miquella what he wanted before committing to a course of action.
@@Luxia-f1e Wasn't Malenia after the great runes ? She was trying to help Miquella to achieve godhood and establish his order, because she sees herself as unfit tu rule, she needed the runes to achieve that, this is probably why she fought Radahn in the first place. After all, it is well established that the Shattering was a war between demi gods to obtains the great runes, Malenia ignoring Godrick great rune is weird, she probably assumed he would willingly give it to her or Miquella after their victory, because Godrick wasn't an open participant of the Shattering, but rather a lord who would just pledge alliegeance to the winner of the war.
@@shadee0909 most demi gods were fighting over great runes yes, but theres no reason to think she demanded or needed an oath of loyalty from the weakest and most disgusting demigod. you have to ignore an inconsistency with this reason where as if she wanted fate to be unshackled like ranni does, then there is no reason foe her to want godricks great rune, but reason to kill radahn personally i take the theory that miquella needs an eclipse or for fate to move for him to leave his cocoon
@@Luxia-f1e Like the video states here, it is unclear in which state Godrick was during this period, he was weak and pathetic yes, but was he already the cruel and disgusting demi god we encounter ? We don't know 100%. Also, we don't know how harshly Malenia judge people, Godrick is seeking recognition as a lord, perhaps he could be a valuable asset to someone who accept him at his position ? All we know, he was spared when groveling, but we don't know the terms of his surrender. And perhaps you're right about Miquella, but Morgott clearly put him and Malenia on his list of ambitious traitors, they were clearly fighting like Radahn or Ryckard for power, as far as I know, only Ranni was hiding and not actively participating in the Shattering. Also, I'm not 100% sure but, Miquella disappearance happened during Malenia's march on Caelid, Malenia never managed to know where he was, and she is still waiting for him, so she is clearly not aware of his cocoon state in Mogh's palace, so I doubt she was fighting Radahn to unlock the movements of the stars for him.
The first time you speak to Roderika she says that her people went willingly to get grafted. Almost like it was an honor.....It doesn't seem like he was abducting people, where does that information come from? Roderika was too scared to get grafted so she didn't go and felt ashamed. They had some type of belief that getting killed for grafting was a good thing.
What I've always wondered is, who is Godrick referring to when he says "We'll return together. To our home, bathed in rays of gold." It can't be the tarnished, Marika is already at the erd tree, he probably doesn't know that Godfrey is alive. Maybe Godefroy or the Grafted Scions?
Elden Ring is my very first fromsoft game and it's honestly extremely impressive how clever and interesting the writing is. Someone as weak in-lore as Godrick can still be so strong-willed and resentful as to kill off civilians and graft mortals much weaker than him to validate his own existence. And yet after you beat him, every npc you talk to is flaming him as "a false demigod", "a disgrace", or "coward", almost as if he wasn't meant to be a boss and you had just killed this universe's equivalent of Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Any other game studio would've ran with this setup with "Oh he's a crazy killer dude, and those guys don't get screentime or believable motivations. Perfect for a "1st boss" archetype!" I seriously cannot wait to re-discover all this lore. Probably so many sidequests and details I've missed lol.
If you keep on using the veil it choses other disguises. Some enemies can see you if you if you are moving.Sitting still and moving while they are not looking you are fine.I mess with the black night at the road to lyndell after the lift. You can be right in the way of his path e will not see.Add spells and talisman they see nothing at all. When you have a lvl 713 with all items you can experiment with everything. Most people would think it odd for an inanimate object move by itself,But the disguise itself no matter what it is does hide you,as long as they are not looking at you.And it silenced your feet.
Kenneth calls him a "big girls blouse" in one of his dialogues. Maybe that's what the Mimic Veil disguised him as, allowing him to flee among the ladies.
To be honest, I think Godrick would've become an actual problem for the rest of the demigods. I think the whole reason Morgott was there, was to keep strong enough being away from his grafting. Think about how he used rotten carrior to bring back a dragon, as his own limb. Imagine what that would do with any part of any other demigod. He could've grown in power exponentially up to that point, from more and more powerful tarnished, and Katamari Damacy'd the whole land. Edit: I flat out don't accept Godefroy as canon, it's such a shitty Ctrl+V of Godrick, that all I see it as, is padding out the game, like Astel somehow also living in a cave in a fuck-off dungeon somewhere insignificant.
I also don't see Godefroy as canon. Nothing can convince me that he isn't literally a self-deprecating gag from the devs where they're laughing at their own repaste, and I can roll with that.
despite this, i would still serve the lord of all that is golden. to possibly help him regain his humanity and reunite the realms between. honestly i wish we could communicate with him more in the game, maybe even learn grafting from him.
i like to think that even tho godefroy exists, godrick was the real grafting savant and was actually really smart and skilled in the practice. I mean people dog on him all the time but i saw a video putting all the limgrave enemies in a tournament and he won, so he's the strongest weakest guy in the game
Demigod are stated to be children born from Marika, making rennala's children step-demigods... so why is godrick a demigod too when he has had an untold amount of great grandparents thst he can call a lineage? Where is his father, and why isn't he a demigod? Who's the one who had kids? Godwyn, mogh, or morgot?
Given the “god” in ‘Godrick’, I assume he is of Godwyns lineage As for his demigod status, the game itself states that he’s diluted. But he has more legitimate demigod status than the carian royals due to his lineage directly deriving from a God (marika)
@@HeevaEgo the Carian royals are also born from a god, Radagon is their father, and he is a God just like Marika (they even somehow became the same person later when radagon left rannala, leading her to her current mental state). But in Elden ring, being a demi god is a weird status, Malenia herself as an empyrean is still considered as a demi god (when you kill her, this is what the game says), even if she is born from Marika and Radagon who are both complete Gods, and yet their childrens are still demi gods. Godhood seems more like a status obtained by many accomplishments, than something inherited. For exemple, again, in the case of Malenia, it is said in her spell that for acheiving her true Godhood she must bloom three times. So it must be the case for Godrick, even if his divine blood is highly diluted and as pathetic as he is, his lineage, his supposed past actions in the golden order, his power and probably because of being a shardbearer, he can still be a demi god.
@@shadee09091 thing about your comment malenia was born sickly and was infected by the outer god of rot the same one that was sealed away by the blind swordsmen and the godhood after 3 blooms is like becoming marika level of power but instead of serving the greater will(the outer god who created the elden beast) malenia will be like the marika for the outer god of rot (the scorpion god)
Limgrave is propably my favourite location, maybe because it seems most "lively" out of the every other major location, others seem like the residents are merely surviving while limgrave and stormveil castle are strongly defended and You can see some action going on (like in morne castle) other than: i'm trying my best to not let this shitshow fall apart 😂

In my opinion you should definitely go after Bloodborne's or DS3's lore, but feel free to create a poll in order to see which lore can be more interesting to your fandom.
So, an exiled weak prince from a great lineage who falls to madness and craves for recognition from the world and dies brutally? I see what you did there, George, that's basically Viserys Targaryen
all you ever achieve in this world/game is just destruction. to become elden lord you have to kill everything in your path, take their essence. so when you finally become elden lord, there is nobody to rule over. a sad state of affairs just as proclaimed.
I don't think Godrick was ever a good person, or anyone of upstanding moral fiber, but nobody in the Lands Between ever bothered to help him stray from his own delusional path either. Im sure there could've been a chance for him to at the very least become an appreciated ruler if someone believed in him but when EVERYONE both in your own family and the rest of the world sees you as a fucked up loser, of course thats gonna make a huge dent in his mental health which was only allowed to fester into full blown mania once he started grafting
Tbh, Malenia's behavior is similar to Godrick. We don't knkw what Malenia was like before fighting Radahn, but keep repeating "i have never know defeat" Over and over again seems so insecure to me, similar to "i am the lord of all that is golden". Perhaps deep down she knew without surprising Radahn with HIV nukes, she won't stand a chance against him, and she sacrifice her honor as a warrior by defeating him ungracefully
my theory is that in the most fromsoft way, godrick despite being the weakest and the most insecure of the demi gods is right. looking at Tree and beast surcoat you can see how he is right about the golden order being wrong. this state of the lands between is the result of marika wanting to exclude the beast part of men and her order example:omens are shunned because of their beastly(crucible)looks and godrick is the only person who is using the "true heirs aka dragons"power as they are the original ruler of the land him being the mad idiot grotesque person that he is,is more true to nature and the origin of the this lands than any other demi gods as trutle pope said all things must be conjoined.
Godefroy is explicitly said to be direct ancestor of Godrick. Imagine literally EVERY OTHER DEMIGOD having "Sh*t, here we go again" reaction, to finding out that Godrick began to experiment with Grafting
@adrianmiskiewicz6762 I know the paper thin lore reason for him being there. Still annoys me hes a direct copy of the first phase of godrick with a direct copy of godricks model. At least make him look different.
@@childofcascadiaFor example, I imagined Godefroy looking like "Two-headed giant human with four arms (with one-handed Axe in each of them) and snake taił in place of legs". In his "second phase" (yes, I gave Godefroy a second phase), he reveals (in very hammy way, obviously) that he managed to "hijack an Evergaols" and used it to "absorb strenght of Evergaol prisoners that Tarnished killed" and transforms into "Godefroy, The Lord of Evergaol" (in this phase, he has six arms , gains Crucible Knight's "dragon wings" and swaps his axes for weaponry used by other inhabitants of Evergaol (Darriwil's Bloodhound sword, Alecto's Black Blade etc)) In his second form, Godefroy also gains access to all attacks utilized by other prisoners of Evergaol (whose power he absorbed after they were defeated by Tarnished)
We never actually get to read any of the religious doctrine of The Golden Order. Exactly what their morality system was is a mystery and even seems kind of nonsensical sometimes, especially since we lack so much context. It could be that Godrick never strayed from the teachings. Maybe. It's possible.
Good question. How does someone lose the guidance of grace in the first place? For even the dung eater is still guided by it and all he wants is to defile the order.
Probably because the supreme will is desperate enough to find someone who have at least the minimum chances to be able to mend the elden ring that it manifest itself even to the worst people in the lands between regardless of their ethics and morals, and all of those are judged too weak or not enough ambitious to complete the quest are simply isolated from it.
Godrick is the coolest looking boss in the game and the moment when u fight him and he starts cutting his hand off so damn epic i will never forget that
First time I fought him it looked like he tried to hit me but stabbed himself and just started screaming and then I laughed so hard I wasn’t ready for his fire and died :(
In-lore obviously Godrick used the mimic veil to appear as a woman and flee. But in the gameplay it turns you into an object, so it's funny to imagine all the women and children fleeing and there's like a candelabra just walking behind them.
Did we always own an antique candlestick?
No, but let's keep it to spruce up the kitchen
Should I be concerned that it's trying to escape the wheelbarrow?
Good point, I'll get some extra rope
No no its obvious...

I just realized most of the troll driven carts if not all of them are heading to Stormveil, suggesting that Godrick is still stealing artifacts from everyone else's kingdom.
There's maybe 1 heading towards stormveil..
I've never had the patience to try this but has anyone ever tried just standing on one of those carts and waiting? It would take hours of course but I've always wondered if they eventually just stop somewhere or if they go in a loop.
@Fatlosergaming I believe they stop and loop back around iirc
Godwym the Ganked is crazy bro really did get jumped 💀💀
Real shit, I'm not calling him anything other than "the Ganked" anymore.
But just imagine getting jumped by a bunch of women! What a lucky guy
Also to add to this, he inherited the moniker of Golden and has Godwyn’s affinity for dragons
Not sure any of the runes were supposed to be "inherited." They were taking great runes after the shattering, not lining up to receive one.
Honestly, sometimes Godrick strikes me as a bit of an unsung genius
He was weak but he managed to survive in this very hostile environment surrounded by individuals who were all much stronger then him
especially with how he fled the capital, I mean he was succesfull in escaping and building his base at Stormveil, wasn´t he?
If you know that a severely powerful foe waits outside the walls it strikes me to be smarter to flee then to seek direct conflict
only this initial genius then eroded with time, probably due to everyone looking down on him and eventually gave way to his madness
@@___.51he probably inherited the castle so the was no "taking" which makes him even more pathetic
@@___.51 (Incoming wall of text containing possible grammar eff ups due to foreign language but I really like to talk about this game so bear with me)
my interpretation is that Godrick wasn't a direct descendant of Godfrey so he shouldn't have been a target of the black knife assassins (but I'm beginning to believe more in your theory than on a my own lol). I *like* to believe he's really still part of the golden lineage because Enia said so and also because he mimics the earth stomps like his ancestor does (it's probably the axe's doing but who knows if it is inherited power). And c'mon he's dextrous with an AXE it can't be all coincidence :P
On the subject about the castle my loose connection is in the banished knights' armor scattered in the castle in the same way they can be found in the old Manor inside Leyndell (probably a force led by Godfrey before the capital and its army weren't established yet.
@@CthulhuianBunnyRadahn isn't commanding those troops.
@@Strill_ I never said that he was. And the original comment specifically said "semblance of order and capacity for thinking", so I was pointing out all of the things that the others were doing that showed remnants of structure among the troops and complex thought processes.
Imo morgott is the most sane
Yeah buddy I get it, your family being so much more powerful and successful than you has to weigh on the mind a lot
nah fuck godrick
I did a Golden Lineage playthrough and it made the confrontation with Godrick so much more personal. Two meagre, unimportant men fighting over the scraps of ancient glory. In the end though, Godel the Gilded was able to accomplish what his cousin could only dream of.

There's a Pope Turtle in the game...
Imagine a "Prawn-ing Magus & Crab-regation"...
"Mighty dragon, Though art a trueborn heir..."
It's ironic that he's venerating the devolved offspring of what was once the pinnacle of nature.
And thus makes himself look even smaller. More pitiable.
The main motif being the accretion of the spurned, the denegrated, into a slightly stronger whole, that despite it's power barely holds up to the inherent strength of individual powers in the Lands Between.
What? Wdym by the devolved offspring?
@@Blittsplitt5 The dragons found around the map, which do not wield lightning, descended from Greyoll (the big white dragon in Caelid) and have no gravel stone scales. Thus are not immortal. But even that aside proper dragons have four limbs and separate wings. The modern "dragons" in the game are drakes. They have two legs and wings melded with their front limbs. That is a drake. Which are lesser cousins of proper dragons.
They aren't as majestic and powerful as the ancient ones and thus "devolved". It's even mentioned in one of the dragon related item descriptions.
i see it more like him feeling a connection with the dragon, being lesser descendats and all, even calls it kindred

Considering he is barely a demigod, yeah. He probably _is_ the most "human" of them all, barely having any divine blood.
The way he taunts you, his mid-fight screams and hysteria, he really is like a disney villain in that regards; you can't help but enjoy the evil bastard he is
Poor godrick bro got performance anxiety
Damn dude you deserve much bigger audience, everything in the video was made professional
Placidusax was an Elden Lord. Wouldn't make sense for him to be the Storm King
@@Blittsplitt5 he was the Elden Lord at a time when Godfrey wasnt. The Dragonlord could very well be the storm Lord
Similar to how Godfrey is ACTUALLY Hoarah Loux
The thing I don't yet understand is why he would mock Malenia openly to her face. He fled like a coward and then does that? Idk, doesn't make sense.
He probably thought he could take her due to having grabbed a great rune.
Godrick: says something about rotussy
Godrick, 1 waterfowl later: please don't kill me
Probably he did from the top of the Castle and seeing how far and fast Malenia can jump i wouldnt be surprised she just climbed that shit and beated him to dead
serious question, how did Godrick immediately know that we were Tarnished and "playing as a lord" just by walking up to him?
his minions probably told him u were coming
That is why all Tarnished came back. To reforge the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord.
The people of Grace know each other and Tarnished from looking at your eyes.
Probably because he is a shardbearer et no tarnished would willingly seek a fight against him without the ambition to take it from him.
Hes still so memerable and easily my favorite "first story boss"
-We take part in grafting, quite literally, every time a remembrance is hewn into the Erdtree.
-The player is told he hid by somebody that wouldn't know his mind either way. The mere fact that one of two opposing sides that passed through Stormveil was unopposed means he either chose a side or the bridge collapsed in that time span (and even that could have been intentional). More likely he saw Radahn as an ally.
We do not “literally graft”. If that was true we’d end the game with half a dozen demi-god limbs sticking off us.
@@PerfectSense77 The point of "grafting" is to take the limb of another and put it on your body to gain power. Tarnished do the same with the life essence of any creature we come across. The difference is semantic or aesthetic at best.
I almost feel sorry for Godrick.
To me he feels like a character that warrants of some sympathy, even if it’s just a little.
He warrants more sympathy from me than most of the characters tbh
Godprick? Nah

Nice Video Bro👊🏾
You blew my mind I can't wait to here your Theories about the Elden Ring Lore.
Gelmir.
The town inside Volcano Manor has some Banished Knight stuff in the old storage areas.

You got the voice for actual documentaries :D good stuff!
If they stop the vocal fry then maybe, until then, no
Hey man, really nice video!
Sad thing is that he probably could’ve found power through other means
Great video mate👍
Godrick isn't my favorite dude in elden ring but his ost is the best in ER hands down. Buh dum tss
I think you missed discussing the thorns infestations in the castle. Did Godrick attract his ancestor's attention with all the deaths from grafting? The castle seems to be slowly coming apart.
Godrick was definitely pressured by his royal blood to become great. It's a sad story indeed.
Well...if hisbsoul can enter the erdtree abd be reborn...lets hope his next round goes better than his first
Hey man your channel is amazing keep up the great work!
Sure he never even valued the Crucible Knight that was hanging around him to see if there was any thoughts about the nature of Runes and of the Golden Order, of the Totality of Order itself.
elden ring backstory would make the perfect GOT type show, it would be so hype
What I don't understand is how he expected to get stronger by grafting a bunch of tarnished arms. Way too small for his body. It'd be like a normal person grafting baby arms instead of adult arms. Hell, why not graft a bunch of troll arms, and have weapons infused with every damage type?
If I were him, though, I'd be focusing my efforts on claiming Godwyn's still living body as my own, especially once I found out Miquella and Malenia were out of commission.
He appears to have the torso of a troll, possibly I may be wrong.
Well by the time godrick had the power to graft godwyn body was already curse with undead so yeah not happening
This was a great video and a good deep dive on Godrick but the thumbnail has me confused. "Was Godrick right?" Right about what?
@@trustmeits610pm2imo; she didnt want it or feel that she needed it to defeat radahn
(i also dont think she was after radahn g rune either)
@@shadee0909 most demi gods were fighting over great runes yes, but theres no reason to think she demanded or needed an oath of loyalty from the weakest and most disgusting demigod. you have to ignore an inconsistency with this reason
where as if she wanted fate to be unshackled like ranni does, then there is no reason foe her to want godricks great rune, but reason to kill radahn
personally i take the theory that miquella needs an eclipse or for fate to move for him to leave his cocoon
Loved the video but I have to ask.. was he right about what exactly? Cause I feel like that wasn’t really answered
This is probably one of my favorite bosses in this game like sure hes not particularly hard but hes really interesting for the basically first boss
Thanks for the vid!
Perfect for a "1st boss" archetype!"
I seriously cannot wait to re-discover all this lore.
I would imagine Malenia embracing him after the fight. Explaining being a Demi-God is not all it’s rapped up to be.
Begging for his life...dayum i cant imagine the shame his followers/soldiers must have felt
Kenneth calls him a "big girls blouse" in one of his dialogues.
Maybe that's what the Mimic Veil disguised him as, allowing him to flee among the ladies.
It's a British way of calling someone a bitch or pussy or something along those lines
Besides Morgott, Godrick is (ironically) the best person for Elden Lord (Excluding Tarnished)
Goldmask tho
Subscribed, love it❤
i like to think that even tho godefroy exists, godrick was the real grafting savant and was actually really smart and skilled in the practice. I mean people dog on him all the time but i saw a video putting all the limgrave enemies in a tournament and he won, so he's the strongest weakest guy in the game
Sat back and laughed as I watched my Demi-Human spirit ashes solo him.🤣
Who would win?
- descendant of a prominent demigod bolstered by dozens of stolen limbs
- several angry monkeys
Demigod are stated to be children born from Marika, making rennala's children step-demigods... so why is godrick a demigod too when he has had an untold amount of great grandparents thst he can call a lineage?
Where is his father, and why isn't he a demigod?
Who's the one who had kids? Godwyn, mogh, or morgot?
Given the “god” in ‘Godrick’, I assume he is of Godwyns lineage
As for his demigod status, the game itself states that he’s diluted.
Well in all honesty, was what Godrick did any different than what the player does?
Wow, this video was incredible!
The Omen brothers were a step away from being like Godrick, I think?
Could you do a lore video about the world of Bloodborne? It would be cool if you did lore studies on the characters of Gehrman, the first hunter and lady Maria of the astral clocktower.
But if you want to continue ER videos, could you please bring the Godfrey's family?
I 100% plan on covering all the games one day! It's just a matter of time & setting myself up a bit more, I'd love to do a poll later down the line to see which game people would want to see next!
@@LoreBrain Seems pretty interesting what you are doing, i think you'll love to CRAZY FRENZY Bloodborne's lore and theories + its esoteric meanings.
Less than the shadow of a snake.
Godrick was dealt a shitty hand but played it to the best of his ability. It's not his fault he was born weak and feeble
all you ever achieve in this world/game is just destruction. to become elden lord you have to kill everything in your path, take their essence. so when you finally become elden lord, there is nobody to rule over. a sad state of affairs just as proclaimed.
This channel needs to blow up so you can get a seriously awesome mic and really take advantage of that bassy voice. Lol
Where is the paradox?
I kept waiting for it also..
But did he really need to graft on ALL those pairs of legs and feet?
Nepheli Loux is technically a goddess, like Shira from DS3!
I really enjoyed godrick as a boss.
Rykard is way more based than godrick. Dude should have just taken dragon communion and become a belly crawler
Fun theory Godric couldve been a great ally to malenia. he could graft new limbs onto her to maintain her. but thats just my little theory
No no, fair
my theory is that in the most fromsoft way, godrick despite being the weakest and the most insecure of the demi gods is right.
looking at Tree and beast surcoat you can see how he is right about the golden order being wrong.
this state of the lands between is the result of marika wanting to exclude the beast part of men and her order example:omens are shunned because of their beastly(crucible)looks and godrick is the only person who is using the "true heirs aka dragons"power as they are the original ruler of the land
him being the mad idiot grotesque person that he is,is more true to nature and the origin of the this lands than any other demi gods as trutle pope said all things must be conjoined.
Godefroy the Grafted just annoys tf out of me. At least make him look slightly different.
Godefroy is explicitly said to be direct ancestor of Godrick.
Imagine literally EVERY OTHER DEMIGOD having "Sh*t, here we go again" reaction, to finding out that Godrick began to experiment with Grafting
@adrianmiskiewicz6762
I know the paper thin lore reason for him being there.
In his "second phase" (yes, I gave Godefroy a second phase), he reveals (in very hammy way, obviously) that he managed to "hijack an Evergaols" and used it to "absorb strenght of Evergaol prisoners that Tarnished killed" and transforms into "Godefroy, The Lord of Evergaol" (in this phase, he has six arms , gains Crucible Knight's "dragon wings" and swaps his axes for weaponry used by other inhabitants of Evergaol (Darriwil's Bloodhound sword, Alecto's Black Blade etc))
In his second form, Godefroy also gains access to all attacks utilized by other prisoners of Evergaol (whose power he absorbed after they were defeated by Tarnished)
@adrianmiskiewicz6762
Thanks. Im less annoyed now thinking about that. Thats pretty interesting
@@childofcascadia Good to hear. Btw, I imagined (my version of) Godefroy essentially being "Final Exam Boss" for all Evergaol fights
"Was Godrick right" hm.... no
hey man, is this you actually narrating? you have a great voice.
How the hell did Godrick keep his grace
Godrick is the coolest looking boss in the game and the moment when u fight him and he starts cutting his hand off so damn epic i will never forget that
First time I fought him it looked like he tried to hit me but stabbed himself and just started screaming and then I laughed so hard I wasn’t ready for his fire and died :(
Crazy lore for a guy who gets killed by “poopoo peepee”
Great video !!!!!
I feel like he is an analogy for steroid abuse
