Has anyone tried to fight Godefroy with Ancient Dragon knight Kristoff summoned in the evergaol?
Very original Boss fight, which she thankfully survived. She needs to move on. Radegon ain’t all that there are plenty of other gods in the sea.
It's hilarious how in the Lore Godrick I'd suppose to be the weakest and lowest of the Characters He was also the Boss everyone got stuck on when they first played Elden Ring. Using game too show our strength. On a replay he is Easily defeated because we've already killed the Gods
I have a theory about the corpse of Godwyn in stormvail depths. I believe he managed to steal a piece of him which he intended to use for grafting to become stronger, but due to the nature of Godwyns corpse, it wasnt possible so he abandoned the corpse part in the depths where it continues to grow and mutate even now.
Yo
Messmer actually represents the real secret gov who like girls. It's just not that type of game tho
I’m commenting to help boost the alg, because this is a damn good video
Great lore video. Love that you weave the narrative and sprinkle in your own inferences based on the environmental storytelling, instead of just reading off the wiki like everyone else.
Godrick's last words are made even more tragic after visiting the Shaman's village...
Humans love stories. Since the creation of fire, humans would crowed around it and share stories. This video embodies our roots as humans. Well done sir. It may not be much, but I will recommend this channel whenever I get the chance. 🫡
Irony, while the Scarlet Rot is more dangerous, but Malenia didn't be abandoned. instead she became one of the Empyreans.
Before Shadow of the Erdtree, Rykard would have always been my single favourite Fromsoftware character. He reminds me so much of Stannis Baratheon. He represents the epitome of a morally ambiguous character that Martin is known for writing, while also being an incredible metaphorical allegory for a descent into the “gluttonous depravity” that Miyazaki is known for writing. Incredibly fun character to read about
I want a DLC where we just simply throw hands with Marika. The more I learn about her children, the less inclined I am to call her "complex".
she is just another stereotypical tyrannical god-monrach and that's all. Fromsoft however tried to make us sympathize with her by portraying the victims of her genocide as cliché cartoonish villains which didn't really add anything to Marika's "depth"
Parental/Maternal abandonment can cause some real shit in someone, some of it can manifest in very nasty ways.
he just want to be embraced by his mother but all what did embraced him was his flame , the serpent and the oblivion of a lightless creature shorn of light by his curse. she hide him away keeping him a company with her original sin and a hatred that would not be confined what a sad character 😢
Omg I AM IN TEARS! Well done! One of the best summaries I've seen on UA-cam about them! Bravo!
What do you mean our tarnished is graceless if he/she was guided by the grace/Marika to become the new lord?
I believe messmer would be a friendly boss like rellana after defeating her
Messmer is the best written boss in this game 😔
Love your channel! Loved your Rykard❤❤. Video! It was amazing! I hope you can do Melinda one! 😍😍😍❤❤❤ great video on messmer. Really learnt more about him! I really do wish we could get anime or hbo series on Elden ring. Since George RR Martin inspired Elden ring characters and the world! 😊🎉❤
if the tarnished really lacked grace they would not see the erdtree nor be guided by marika, idk how you got that fact that the player character is graceless
you forgot to add the part where this is a great example of the consequences of blind loyalty
It's cool to think that Godwyn the Golden. The most revered Demi-god showed a liking for Mesmer If Marika wasn't such a horrible parent Mesmer could've become a God to be praised and loved. Instead he became a War Lord that was forgotten and abandoned
That is one thing I love about Elden Ring. The story is really profound and interesting. I wish we could befriend Messmer. I wish we had an option to somehow side with Mequella. Almost, if not all of the major characters are develloped enough to be protagonist on their own.
Godrick was definitely pressured by his royal blood to become great. It's a sad story indeed.
A General who wished only for his men’s safety. A God who wished only to fulfill his sovereign duties. A Son who wished only to please his mother. Messmer is as complex as he is tragic.
This video didn’t answer my unanswered question about Maliketh How exactly can this lion like creature be Marikas Halfbrother??? Shadowbound beast makes sense but HALFBROTHER?
It's a translation error, in the original japanese he's referred to as Marika's "adopted younger brother" (義弟). Iji the blacksmith says that Rennala adopted Blaidd into the Carian royal family and that he became Ranni's "step brother", but in the japanese version the same word 義弟 is used, it was just translated in two different ways in the english version. So in short both Maliketh and Blaidd are the adopted brothers of their respective empyreans, Marika and Ranni, and they aren't blood related. Late reply but hope that it helps
Hey great video!
GG
I really like your video style, pacing, use of voice lines and instrumentals 😎
Great breakdown. His voice actor did a great job of layering emotion into a very small number of lines. Beyond the abyssal serpent, knowing that a ‘lowly’ tarnished might be favored over him by his own mother, and then the realization that he may indeed be unworthy near the end… a great fight and one of best stories told within a fight they’ve ever done
Thomas Ronald Wilson Dorothy Smith Joseph
So it's assumed marika is how mother, but he doesn't say that specifically. The gloam eyed queen is the statue in his room, not marika...
The official's attire hinted at whatever Melina and Mesmer went through to have the seals put on them.
How?
Why does he attack us. In lore we can see grace. Or does he jist think since we are tarnished we all have no grace or he hasnt heard of everyone's death during the shattering yet
Thats my theory. If he was sent to war soon after Godfrey and the tarnished were stripped of grace and exhiled.... makes sense he wouldnt know that the tarnished are now been granted grace once again and are returning to the Land between. In his mind, it doesnt matter the reason the Tarnished is here he has a job to be done, although you can hear doubt in his voice as if he suspects Marika sent the tarnished to finish him, but he erases these thoughts and continues to enforce his mother's orders, which are to kill all those who abandoned by grace. Its only in his final grace that he acknowledges Marika's betrayal and curses at her.
because our protagonist is a mute autist so we can’t tell him that we can see it
I LOVE your channel. Watched your latest and then ALL your videos. Definitely subscribed
The quality of this channel is mesmerizing (no pun intended). Great camera work, finely articulated lore, and a refreshing take on how the villain’s view the story/world. People often forget that just because the bosses are you opposition doesn’t necessarily mean they’re your enemies. I’m glad I found you, and I hope for your success, my friend. Keep up the good work!
Messmer, child of a god, committed *genocide* because he had mommy issues, and Rellana was into it. . . wow. So much of the divine families problems could be fixed with just one behavioral hospital visit and half decent therapy.
Messmer is a tragic figure when you put the story all together, he's another of Marikas tragic betrayals.
The tarnished befriending Messmer is actually a thought I like and kinda wish to be an option. He is, without a doubt, my favourite character in Elden Ring.
Same! Would be really cool. To see a nice dialogue from him where he dies and shows respect to the tarnished. ❤
Ha, Dark Souls was all about people trying to prolong the Age of Fire while in Elden Ring fire is spurned and feared. And it's interesting that Miquella was able to force the belief he was kind. Meanwhile Messmer was made a pariah even though he was genuinely kind.
It would have been cool if messmer had a third remembrance weapon, like some sort of “serpent communion” spell maybe, I mean bear communion was a joke, and Bayles incantations were good, but way too slow for pvp
you are underrated
The complexity of Messmers entire character is what rightfully makes him one of the best characters From Software has ever written. I for my part declared him my favorite character in Souls, just after seeing the trailer for the dlc. I immediately ordered the special edition for a statue of him and was glad, that my high opinion of him was justified by his ambivalent and tragic character
The fact that Messmer curses Marika in a similar manner as the hornsent js such a perfect, sad cherry on top of messmers story and just dripping with irony. Marika and messmer are both such wonderfully complex characters.
I think Messmer only interacted with Radahn, Ranni, Rykard, Godwyn and Melina, never meeting Miquella/Malenia. His crusade seems to have taken off only *after* Godfrey's exile and the war with the Giants, as he knows what a Tarnished is. It's likely that he served under Radagon during the Liurnian wars, which paralleled Godfrey's conquest of Limgrave and Caelid, and when they met the moon sisters. If we look closely at the furnace golems in the Land of Shadow, we can see a few distinctive features. One is the face-mask trophies taken from the Fire Giants (indicating they'd already been used against them), the other is in the articulated face and metallic basket design. This mesh-puppet aesthetic shares some design elements with the Marionette and Avionette enemies; if you look closely, most of their "body" is actually a metal mesh cage/basket, which encloses the puppet-like limbs. My take is that the Furnace Golems were constructed at the behest of the Golden Order following the marriage of Rennala and Radagon (and maybe Rellana and Messmer if the fire-sword theory holds any water) once they were incorporated into the Golden Order. This could almost be seen as a switch in alliance, as the Carians/Raya Lucaria are descended of the Astrologers, who were friend to the Giants, the Carian moon gazing grounds seem to be inspired by the sacred pool in Motoya Sicily, a body of still water which sat in the center of a temple, and which may have been used to reflect the night sky for astronomical observations of auspicious constellations. This previous relationship between their ancestors may have been the casus belli for Marika's invasion of Liurnia, perhaps while she was still "friends" with the Hornsent, who would have wanted this ancestral ally of the Fire Giants done away with. Once the whole of the Lands Between were pacified (bar the now veiled Lands of Shadow) she exiled Godfrey and his warriors (both a cruel exile and a gift), called on Messmer to purge to Hornsent, veiled the entire region (ripping it from the bedrock of the continent...) and chose a new Elden Lord, swapping Conan the Barbarian for a more civilized, "proper" lord in Radagon.
Messssmer is Messssed up
Messmer being born without grace is something I never thought about, the thought never crossed my mind, nice catch man
Amazing video
Very well put! I feel like at some point Messmer may have figured out the reason why he was really there. I just don't think he was ever able to admit it to himself until his dying breath. But I think deep down, he always knew the reason he was not able to return and told himself the same lie Marika did as the only way to move forward. We also despise that in others that which we loathe in ourselves. He couldn't rid himself of his darkness, but could erase the darkness of others from the world. Such a complex character. During his boss fight, I felt a wide range of polarizing emotions. He has quickly become my favorite boss in any FromSoft game. Bravo!
I also wanted to add something... the winged serpent is a separate entity from the base serpent. "The winged snakes were Messmer's constant companions. They were there when the base serpent was sealed away behind his eye"
Yeah he was heartbroken character ❤really depressing and it’s a shame we don’t get any dialogues from Melina about him. 😢
Love your messmer picture btw! So beautiful 😻
@@darlingxluxii7977 thank you so much! Sorry, I am just seeing this now 😅. Incredibly tragic character 😔
