At some point in time, I will own a superior gear hammock!!! Lol... Meanwhile? I'm enjoying what I own... And I appreciate any tips and knowledge shared good sir. Thanks 👍
Hello!....I've been watching your videos, and Shug's, and others, and did a LOT of research about hammock camping before I bought my first "real" one. Always been a camper/backpacker/canoer - in a tent. Making the switch now that I'm 56. I'm here to say THANK YOU🙏 for your videos, and that I love watching them. Guess what? I'm so darn excited! I just got my Superior Gear 30F on Friday (today is Monday). I hung it in my friend's backyard for the first time today, and we all lied in it. I'm in Winnipeg, MB Canada. It was -3 C (26.6F) when we all tested it out for a short while today. Lying in it with no TQ, it was warm. It got warmer the longer you lied in it. My friends commented that they could feel the warmth under them (even without a TQ, we were cozy). And also guess what? I'm going camping Wednesday, because its going to be 0 C overnight (34F), so its PERFECT to test this temperature rating. I'm taking my -7 down filled North Face sleeping bag for a TQ. I'm SO DARN excited! Sorry to leave a novel here Mr. Marine....just wanted to share my happiness and thank you🙏 for your videos. The wilderness has always been my church, and where I feel closest to the blessings of God. If you're interested, I will let you know how my first night went in the temperature rating, also - please let me know what YOU think about what degree TQ I would need....please let me know your opinions. I mean, I'm sure I could possibly take a lesser TQ with me, but this is what I have. Its so great that Danny has incorporated the snaps for making this super comfortable hammock modular. Wowsa. I'm so ridiculously excited. My friends told me I should quit my job and start selling Superior Gear hammocks - and I haven't even slept in it yet! If you've read this far, thank you. God's blessings.... Marlene from Canada (Em)
First of all. Thank you Marlene for taking the time to write this. It really means a lot. Danny is really generous with the down inside. And remember. If you are going below 0°c. You can always migrate the down to give you extra warmth. The next thing to look at is the multi comforter. You can use that combo for most of the three seasons. Than when winter comes. You snap it underneath you and use your sleeping bag as a top quilt. With a extra blanket on top. Now you are able to get down to -20°c. A year round hammock. Then later on. You invest in a cocoon. Now you have the best year round hammock. You wouldn't believe how many hammocks that I have tested. And that is the best! Thank you so much for watching. And keep me posted on trip. How it worked for you.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine both of mine are the elite, but one is lined with Cloud 71. I'm a bit of a gram weenie so I chose to spend the extra bucks to save a few ounces.

Great review, Thanks! This will be my next hammock forsure, I've been looking at them for awhile now. My girlfriend needs somthing like this too as she's a cold sleeper. I love my Chameleon and can stay mostly warm down to -8 Celcius by using a pad, a 4' by 6' Refletex piece I cut and a crappy sleeping bag as a topquilt. I am 6' 2" , my Chameleon is the 11' , double layer, wide version...super comfy, except in winter. I wish Superior mad a wide version for us tall guys and there are many taller than me. For the price of a good underquilt shipped to me in Canada the Superior gear is the same price with no fiddeling around. This review made me want one even more.
I have talked to Danny. The owner of Superior Gear about a wider version. He said that will be something in the future. But right now he is struggling to keep up with the orders.
I did some serious research looking at the Superior Hammock and the Starlite Hammock which is for warmer weather. I emailed the company with questions which they responded very quickly. I ended buying the 30 degree Eliite Superior hammock and used your code. What was real sweet, I was able to get the Camo wind protector for free since there was a special sale. I am glad I saw this video so thanks again Marine!! I should get my new hammock by the end of April.
Your are going to love that hammock. Quick and simple to setup. And no more adjusting the under quilt. Thank you Rose for watching. I really do appreciate it.
I really like using that Superior Hammock. Especially in cold temperatures. It really is a good hammock to look into. As far as Dutch. Hopefully he will stay on his side of the fence. Thank you Ricardo so much for watching. I really do appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine i wish they their hammock would have a asymmetrical cut to them . Yes Superior hammock must be really good for winter use with little fiddle factor. 👍.

Recently got my 30F hammock from Danny, quite happy with it to keep me comfortable and warm, as my other underquilts would often open up and let in cold air, due to my being a cold restless side sleeper. If I find the 30F getting a little too cold, I probably attach my Hammock Gear Phoenix 45F to keep my butt extra warm.
Before you do that. First try migrating the down to your core area. But I have used my Phoenix's over full length under quilts for years now. And they always worked great. As for the under quilts. The Phoenix is my favorite. When sleeping in the hammock during the night time. I am always doing the crappie flop.
When using this hammock. After getting back in it. I find my self always reaching over to adjust the under quilt. For some one starting out or has trouble dialing in there UQ. This would be the hammock for them.
Good photography at the intro there: I will stay tuned here at breakfast. Got the grey 'Flawed Zipper' 11' Elite 30F coming. The 10' Classic 0F Elite I have been working hard to tune for expedition, but my feet slide off & I think the hoods will help hold up the material a bit on this newer 30F on the way--and tge extra foot won't hurt. In reallity the older Classic 10' needs a knotty mod or tarp clip or hood stitiching up top the ends if I were handy.
I will have to talk to him about that. My last trip ( next episode ) I was testing his 12ft. Starlite hammock that dose not have the intergraded under quilt. But still has the snap and zipper system. But I would like to see a 12ft. Super Hammock. I do know that he wants to do more innovating and improvement old and new things. Right now he is trying to keep up with orders that have and are coming in. But when he is able to expand. We are going to see some amazing things.

Just buy one piece of gear at a time. Little by little. You don't need all of that expensive gear to enjoy the great outdoors. When I was younger. You should of seen what we where using and the clothes we wore. But I do have to say. When you buy nice gear. It is a good investment if you take care of it and use it for many years. One of my saying is: " if you take care of your gear. It will take care of you".
I love your videos, tips and tricks. I just received my SuperiorGear Ultimate Bundle which includes everything, and will be using on the Colorado Trail in August. I AM SO EXCITED!! I hope I get the chance to experience many weather varieties. ;)
You Have a great system. Getting into a hammock at the end of a hike. You will have no worries about adjusting the under quilt. No worries about any gaps where the cold air could creep in. But do watch for the down moving around. When you set it up. Give it a quick check. And you are good to go. Thank you Suzanne for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine went with elite model (30 degree). also went with the tarp system as well (based on your tarp vid). all should be arriving mid September
Great review, Marine! I have been using the no zip original model (30F) on and off for almost 1 1/2 years, and it quickly became one of my favs. I have a 30F SG comforter (with snaps) to go with it. I would like to add the Cocoon system, but I guess it needs a zippered hammock to work? But, as a user of the Speer Pea Pod for many years, I can see that this system has some of the same unbeatable advantages. If I have to, I will sell my 1st gem SG insulated hammock in order to buy a hammock that will work with the Cocoon.
The cocoon system is a real nice addition. With the 30°comforter underneath as a under quilt. And a 20° top quilt. Now one is able to get down to -10°. With those 4 changeable items. I believe that it could be the best 4 season hammock. The only issue would be on those hot summer nights. Thank you Bill so much for watching. I really appreciate it.
Real nice review Marine. I like mine as well. I actually have accumulated 3 SG hammocks over the last 18 months or so. I have 2 30 degree, one with the lightweight upgrades. I also have a -40 degree and really excited to test it out in the coldest temps I can this winter! Still prefer my RidgeRunner in summer thought. Only negative of the SG in my opinion is that you cannot vent the UQ in hot temps.
What are your thoughts between the two 30°'s. And I am with you on the RidgeRunner. Best summer hammock. In two weeks, I will be heading up north to a State Park in Minnesota, where I will be using the RidgeRunner. I have been going up to that State Park since 1964. I took out the part (negative ) about opening or taking off the UQ in hot temps. I am doing a video on Underquilts next month. Where I will be explaining that aspect. Someday we will meet on the trail again.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Hey Marine. There certainly is a difference between the regular fabric 30 and the ultralight 30. The weight difference is noticeable, the ultralight is much more slick I would say and prefer the softer regular fabric. Biggest difference though is the 950 down n the ultralight, much less loft and seems to migrate more. Have not tested the warmth rating yet on the ultralight to see how it performs. Would be happy to show them to you so you can see what you think. You are welcome over or could meet you at a park. Blessings, Pete
@@jwstrauc hi John. I cannot say for certain as I have not had the chance to fully test my 950 fill in temps that are anywhere near the rating. I am confident it will perform well, but yes - it appears to migrate much more as the baffles are large and the 30 degree in 950 fill just doesn’t take much volume space. Just more maintenance I hope. Curious to see if it stays up by the shoulders and head over night.
I've been watching a ton of your videos over the last month, and I must say thank you so much! I've recently just acquired my first hammock and gear to go along with it for hiking, got it from an Australian company Alton Goods. I'd love to know your thoughts if you've heard of them, I think the hammock is way shorter than what you say is a good length but I slept out in it last night in -2 Celcius and had a cosy night. Thanks to all your various tips and tricks I think I have got quite a nice system going, and I am keen to take it out more often. Cheers from Aus mate, and I'm definitely recommending you to anyone getting the same gear I got :)
One thing that I have failed to mention is that the smaller hammocks. Which wraps' around you more then the larger ones. Will keep you warmer. As long as they are not too narrow. But what I always say and should say more is always do what works for you. But do not be afraid to try new things. And. The best piece of gear when you are out in the wilderness. Is the gear that you have. But always improvise! Thank you Cameron for watching. I really do appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine no shit I'll get that hammock and cycle to Iran with it and further... Thank you really! I needed to know if I can sleep diagonally in it. Great job again.
I think it's expensive as heck. Yeah it might be a deal but for those of us that's living month to month it's hard for us. You know that saying "Cry once, and buy once"? Yeah I'd be balling. Lol But a good and informative video. 👍
Thanks for the review. You seem to be more enthusiastic about the SG hammock. I love the UQ concept, but I too am concerned about the width for 6’4” folk.
Great review! Thanks so much for all the wisdom you’ve shared over the years. I have a question about the temp rating. I’m torn between the 45F and 30F hammock. I’m leaning towards the 30F rating, but worry about being too hot when the outside air temp is between 50-70F. What is your experience using the SG hammock in warmer air temperatures?? Thank you sir 🙏
Good question! There are a lot of variables. Are you a hot sleeper ( like I am ) or a cold sleeper. What is the lowest temperatures that you would be using it. And also the warmest that would be, not during the day. But night time. I took a nap in the 30° Superior Hammock ( which I have taken down in the 20's ( -3c ) and was warm ) with the temperatures around 75° ( 22c ). I was a little warm underneath but not hot. I would say I was quite comfortable. And because heat rises. I took my top quilt and hung it on the suspension. And slept with nothing covering me on top to trap the rising heat. It would be nice to have a Superior Hammock that can be used all four seasons. But where I live the 30° makes a great 3-season hammock. And because I have winter top quilts. I now can use that comforter as an extra under quilt and now use it as a winter hammock. I hope this helps. If you have more questions. Please ask.
If SG offered an asym insulation option, I'd probably go that direction. As it is, I think I'm going to move towards the Warbonnet Wooki as the next best thing.
I do most of my camping in the winter usung a Kifau Tut floorless Tipi with a stovejack. I use a Pomolly titanium stove for heating and cooking. I turned 65 this year, and tent camping get more and more difficult each year, so I pulled the trigger on a Superior Gear hammock with a negative 40 degree temperature rating this evening. I akso ordered the Elite upgrades, including two side pockets. I didn't order a top quilt, figuring I can use sonethig else. My only concern is that it's going to take up a lot of space in my pack
Winter camping with a hammock is the way to go. Especially the older we get. And you bought the best winter hammock. I will be picking up that same hammock this year. Except, I will add the cocoon ( which you can get latter ) because of the extreme temperatures that I will be camping in. If possible, use a sled or pulk. Otherwise I would hang it on the outside of the pack. Strapped underneath. It is bulky. But well worth it. A bigger problem that you are going to have. Is you will never want to get out of it. Hopefully I will see you at the 2024 Wisconsin Frozen Butt Hang. Thank you @LostBeagle for watching. Much appreciated!
I agree. I love Dutches Spreader Bar Bug Net. Soon I will do a video of the two. Compare then against each other. Thank you HuggyBearHikes for watching. I really appreciate it.
Great review as always Marine! I was curious about your experience with the diagonal lie while using the full bug net? Being 6'5 I have had a great experience with the 12ft version as long as I'm not using the bug net.
I just got done using the 12ft. Starlite. I notice when I adjusted the hammock for a deeper sag. The bug net was too tight ( too small )and I had a hard time zipping the door. The bug net was too narrow. I am texting him as I am writing this. I believe there is a solution to this problem. The bug net needs to be wider with the pullouts moved up to the side next to the face. And on the other side. Moved down to the feet. This way if it is too wide and hang down in the face. The pullouts will keep it away nicely. A asymmetrical bug net option I believe will come. They are a small cottage company that is trying to survive in this tough economy. Thank you Helge Bjonge for watching. I always appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine I saw where the pullouts are attached, and they look like they interfere with exiting and entering the hammock. moving them off the center point of the hammock would definitely help that along with fixing the bug next to be an asymmetrical design. Dutch Gear's Chameleon hammock has an option for the bug net to be asymmetrical. I've got a Dutch Gear 11ft wide netless hammock which I got on sale, but its a pain to setup and use with the underquilt and bug net being separate pieces. The superior gear hammock is looking like a really good upgrade. Does the integrated underquilt end up being overly warm in warmer weather? Say 70 degree nights. I typically go hiking/camping in early fall when the weather can range from warm to cool.
This in a narrow hammock. But you can get a flat lie in it. Even with the bug net. And it is comfortable hammock. But this would not be a summer hammock for me. Too hot. Thank you Peacherman for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine I sure appreciate your answer. You do great reviews and respect your opinion. That sounds like a good design for fall- spring.

And now I have this and that cocoon option is not good I can go inside it's not at least comfortable because is to small. I am 88 kilos and my high is 183 cm in high is fine but my shoulder is no going with cocoon not well
I believe the problem with the cocoon system is that the hammock is on the narrow side. So tucking the under quilt with the the cocoon over the shoulder is almost imposable for me. The solution I believe is to have the zipper go all the up to the top. That is what a cocoon or pod system is suppose to do. With the cocoon zipped over my shoulder. Now I can tuck the under quilt inside over my shoulder. Without the cocoon always falling off the side of the hammock. I am also 183 cm in height. And weight is 100 kilos. I find myself very comfortable in the 11ft. Superior Hammock. Do you have an 11 ft. of the 10ft. If you have the 10ft. hammock. It is too small in length for your height. Though, some do find the 10ft. comfortable at our height. Thank you Lupus Diem for watching. I really appreciate it.
Everything is expensive. I went to but a steak the other day. I saw the price per pound. I decided to chew on my arm instead. Thank you Guillermobanosflores for watching. Much appreciated!

Thanks ones more for the review 👍I’m saving for one of this hammocks, import taxes makes them very expensive here in europe
Good choice! One way to look at it. It really is a good investment. thank you Manuelmetallica for watching. I really appreciate it.
I recommend getting the wind breaker/water protector. Clips right on and gives you an additional 10 degrees and weighs next to nothing. 🤘
Thank you lost1croc for sharing that. Good stuff!
You do top notch reviews Marine. !
Thank you Jerry so much. I always appreciate you watching.
love the vids, placed my order for hammock and tarp last month for upcoming AT trip.
Did you order the standard or the Elite model?
So it gets too hot in summer?
@@petescharber8567 Pete, are you saying there's less loft and more migration in the 950? you prefer the regular over the ultralight overall?
@@AdventureswiththeMarine that's such fantastic advice too, and I can't agree more, thank you! :)
Finally a helpful video! :D thanks
I am glad you like it. Thank you Peter for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine no shit I'll get that hammock and cycle to Iran with it and further... Thank you really! I needed to know if I can sleep diagonally in it. Great job again.
Nice hammock.
Thank you Tony for watching. I really appreciate it.
I think it's expensive as heck. Yeah it might be a deal but for those of us that's living month to month it's hard for us. You know that saying "Cry once, and buy once"? Yeah I'd be balling. Lol But a good and informative video. 👍
I understand. Thank you Alblaza Shirley for watching. I really do appreciate it.
Thanks for the review. You seem to be more enthusiastic about the SG hammock. I love the UQ concept, but I too am concerned about the width for 6’4” folk.
I would I to see Danny expand his selection for wider and a 12 ft. Superior hammock. I believe we will see that in the future.
Adventures with the Marine I think the 12’ can be gotten but special order.
Great review of a great system.
Thank you Jason Woods for watching. I always appreciate it.
Please ask.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Thanks so much for the details!!
Nicely described!
Thank you Brian for watching. I really appreciate it.
If SG offered an asym insulation option, I'd probably go that direction. As it is, I think I'm going to move towards the Warbonnet Wooki as the next best thing.
SG said that he was looking into that for the future. Thank you (NiTe)ething for watching. i really appreciate it.
Great video big lad
Glad you enjoyed.
I wish they offered a spreader bar bug net like Dutchware has. I wonder if the two zipper systems would work together??
Silly question, but what is the shamrock hat you’re wearing? I had one years ago very similar and I can’t remember what sports team it was.
It is from a Company called Black Clover. Thank you Reneetheriault for watching. I really appreciate it.
How is your lay when it's zipped up? It doesn't look flat from here. Can you a have a horizontal flat sleep?
This in a narrow hammock. But you can get a flat lie in it. Even with the bug net. And it is comfortable hammock. But this would not be a summer hammock for me. Too hot. Thank you Peacherman for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine I sure appreciate your answer. You do great reviews and respect your opinion. That sounds like a good design for fall- spring.
Can you please help me I've bought a superior hammock have not used it yet .iam 19st and scared to use it just in case it tears .can I use it or lose the belly .thanks in advance I've got the-20 950 down please help me marine 🙏
I would love to help you. But I am not sure what the question is. Can you please give me a little more detail.
god i want a down filled camo one w top cover/qwilt
It really is a great system. Thank you rootslion for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine been watching afew a yours lately not long found the channel good stuff sah highly recommend a onewind hammock set up esp now can finally get matching camo tarp shelter down underqwilts are fluffing expensive for the amount afilling in em tho.. they need t work on that but quality gear
👍
Thank you Michael. I really appreciate you watching.
This hammock is like 399 now and you have to buy the straps separately 😮💨🙂↕️
Everything is expensive. I went to but a steak the other day. I saw the price per pound. I decided to chew on my arm instead. Thank you Guillermobanosflores for watching. Much appreciated!
Problem with this hammock is that it is not wide enough 😒
Wider is more comfortable for me. But a narrow hammock is better in the winter. When the is freezing temperatures during the night. That down goodness is wrapped tightly against you. Snug as a bug! thank you Benoitanctil1 for watching. I really appreciate it.
How tall are u ?
6 feet tall. Thank you Hajmeddig for watching. I really appreciate it.
I buy this shit and it cost to me 1300 euros.
