I forgot to mention Focus Breathing Compensation which is a point for the A7IV, but I am confident that will be introduced in the A7SIII soon anyway.
I don't own or plan to own any Sony GM lenses which seem to be the worst offenders. So, as much as I love the idea of this feature, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to take as much advantage of it as I'd like. 🤔 I could be wrong though.... maybe the few Sony lenses I have would still benefit even though the breathing doesn't seem too noticable to me

I am not actually sure of that. One of the reasons why the A7 IV can do it is because the video is extremely oversampled so it can freely digitally zoom in and out without any loss of perceived quality. A7S III doesn't have as many pixels to play with and it would be much trickier to do these tiny crops while not affecting video quality.
@@mbvglider always a possibility, but the fact that A7Siii already utilizes clear image zoom, makes me think they’ll do it as the breathing compensation seems to be a version of this

What about the clear image zoom hack on the a7siii? Isn't it more or less the same as the apsc mode on a7iv? Sorry if I missed something 🙈
no, the apsc mode actually crops in on the sensor and you still have a full 4K resolution. Clear image zoom works well, but it is a form of digital zoom with advance up-scaling so that it’s harder to notice a drop in quality. You can go into apsc mode on the A7iv and then apply the clear image zoom after as well (because is a form of digital zoom)

Im planning like a "fresh start" with new gear because every review that i made was recorded on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus 😁and i really want to step up with a quality.
So i decided to go with Sony Zv-E10 with Sigma 16 lens. Mainly becase of some product showcase,vloging from home nice blurry background etc.😊
But i would also love to make some training videos and thats why i want to ask which second lens should i buy ? Or is it enough to just buy gimbal so the combination with sigma 16 would be decent for some training/gym videos as well ? 👀

The 16mm will be good to training videos too, but if you find it’s too wide, the 30mm f1.4 from Sigma will be good. amzn.to/3DJtusH The sigma though does have some focusing noise, so if you plan to use the audio on the camera (or a shotgun mic on the camera) when you’re in the gym, maybe go with the Sony as well or the Sony 35 1.8 for apsc amzn.to/3oICKcv
I would recommend the Zhiyun Weebil S or the new Zhiyun Crane 3 (which I’ll be reviewing in a few days)

LOL I have a ZV-1 budget, but I want one of these (leaning toward A74), so I'm just going to bide my time, save my pennies and make it happen. I wonder if you are able to variable shutter down to 48 if shooting 24fps. I’m hopeful. Just put one on order yesterday. I was really going back and forth between the 4 and the s3. But yeah, an extra $1800 to have 120 4k….meh. Also, the main thing that sold me was that you can use the la-ea5 adapter with old sony and Minolta lenses from DSLR days. I bought my a7c and the adapter but only worked with my SSM lenses. The a74 will work with even the screw drive lenses. I’m freaking excited to get the Mintola glass out. They have so much character.
I’ll check on the variable shutter.

I'm about to buy my first ever camera and really wanna get the Zve10 but the only thing holding me back is the Weather sealing. (Since I travel alot)

You may want to with the a6400. it’s better construction and will hold up to weather better, similar video, better at photos (viewfinder, minimum shutter in auto iso). The biggest drawback is the no stabilization and the fact that you can’t use Catalyst browse, but if you’re looking at gimbals, that may not be a problem for you.

Another fun video, Mark. I picked up the A7IV the other day in the store and to be honest it felt a little cheap in the hand. I had all intentions of getting it but the rolling shutter is a huge downer. For handheld stuff it's as bad as their APSC cameras except for their crop modes (I think?) Either way, it's a great tripod camera for sure.
It’s going to be my main photo camera and my autofocus video camera too. I think I’m going to have to keep two systems running, Panasonic and Sony. The only problem is that Panasonic has two systems!! If I switch to their full frame I have sooo many things to buy 🤣🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Get the S5 mate, it's a great camera. I am basically only running S5's in the intheblues studio (not that it matters to anyone else's choices) but the S5 is basically my go to camera when I lock focus off. Flip the GH5 while you can. 😁

I will get into that hopefully soon. But in a nut shell - A7iii for photos, GH5 for video (as long as you manually focus).

If there's more pixels in the A74 wouldn't the noise grain be more noticeable? The A7s3 has less pixels that are larger so qoupdnt that mean less noise grain
it’s actually the opposite - because there are more pixels, the noise is smaller and finer. The A7Siii does have larger pixels, so the noise grain is larger. The A7siii is better in very lowlight conditions, but the A74 seems to be more pleasing up to about iso 10,000 because of the finer noise grain.

Great comparison video. One thing I saw in another A7iv video, is that the switch for changing from Stills - Video - S&Q mode actually has a button on the lever which you have to press to change modes. Nice little safety feature, eh?
On a side note, I find it interesting that you can’t preorder the GH6, yet. It’s supposed to be released this month, but you can’t even preorder it, yet. It’s priced at $2,500, the same as the A7iv. And from whet I know of Panasonic, they’re still sticking with contrast based AF. I rented the GH5ii, and the AF still hunted at times.
So, basically, despite being a Panasonic fan for many years, I am very happy that I’m getting the A7iv instead of the GH6. Sure, the GH6 has some good features. But, without truly reliable AF, you won’t hold my interest. Im just about three weeks away from getting the A7iv, and I couldn’t be more excited. Thanks for sharing some A7iv porn - er - I mean…uh..,content with us. Much obliged.
Yes, I was excited about the GH6 for so many years, but with things like A7IV out, I’m not sure there’s what the GH6 could possibly have to sway me to buy it. but who knows - I do like cameras 🤣🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis From what I’ve seen, the GH6 will have 4K 120fps, etc. But, I don’t do a lot of slow motion stuff. And given that full frame cameras - like the A7iv - have better dynamic range and tastier bokeh, I just don’t see the GH6 pulling it’s weight at $2,500. I mean, focus mapping? Lens Breathing Compensation? How will the GH6 hold up against those sweet specs?
Mark! This is the exact comparison I've been contemplating for myself. Since I primarily do video for work and photography as a hobby with only the occasional request by clients to also do photos, I've been pining over the a7S iii/FX3. But now I need to give serious thought to the a7iv.... Honestly, I'm still torn but it's fun to watch your videos and adding your opinion to the debate in my own head 😆
To not have the 4K 120 or 60 without crop is a pretty big deal to a lot of video shooters. So if you’re doing video for work, I would probably get the A7Siii. 12mp - you can still do photography as a hobby, it will only make a difference if you’re printing really or you do a ton of cropping.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis That's been my mindset so far. But in reality, as far as paying clients, I don't do a lot of slow motion (yet) so I'm not sure I can justify it to myself as far as ROI. But I definitely want it for fun!!

Here’s some printing info on A7S3:
Credits and copied from comments of: @CTphotographX Clyde on another YT A7S3 video
S3 resolution is 4240 x 2832px. That’s a 9.4” x 14” at 300dpi.
8.5” x 11” magazine page at 300dpi requires 3300 x 2550px.
14” x 21” canvas print at 200dpi is 4240 x 2832px which is S3 native resolution.
18.8” x 28.2” banner print and newspaper at 150dpi is 4240 x 2832px which is S3 native resolution.
These are based on arm length viewing distances. Greater viewing distances require even less resolution. Look closely at In-store displays and window banners next time you visit Target/Walmart. Many are printed at less than 100dpi.
These are standard printing resolution for intended substrate and display purposes, regardless of how many megapixels you deliver to print house.
@@nomad0714 If you print large landscapes, they are meant to be viewed closely and they are meant to be sharp with huge amount of detail. Magazine pages, and store displays are not acceptable resolutions for high quality landscape prints. Do the experiment for yourself - print out a poster size landscape photo at a professional printer from a 12 mp camera vs a high megapixel camera like the A7riii. For details and DR use case such as landscape and sports/wildlife, I use my A7R4 and A9. Also using an R5 but interested in A7S3/FX3 but prefer a one body setup as I am a hybrid shooter.

Update on the lens
I used a cleaning cloth that I have for my expensive D&G sunglasses not kidding 2 passes in circular motion from the inside to the outside smudges are 100% gone so I guess I have to get another one of there cloths 🍺

Gah5 is such a great studio or Interview / documentary cam. But the second you sport into lowlight or need autofocus, you have to look elsewhere

Great review again. There are always the people who complain about everything. Don't mention them, don't give them a stage, don't feed the troll. I like this specs comparisons, although I'd never buy the A7SIII, which is more for professionals (and too expensive 🤣), I think. But since the A7IV was released, my former plan to buy a A7C is obsolete. The A7IV for me personally is the perfect compromise. I'm using the little ZV-E10 since August now. The most beloved features are USB-Streaming and the S&Q switch. But it's time for a weather sealed camera. (Man, commenting your channel helps me to practice my english.)

When you said we can use sigma trio on a full frame a74 because it have super35 mode, honestly it feel like revelation to me 😆 not only the price of the trio lens is cheaper, but also we can get high quality image too, because aps c lens is design specifically for smaller image circle, so theoretically it should give better performance at low light, its like funnel of light 🤣🤣🤣🤣 sorry if im talking nonsense 😅
haha - it’s not nonsense in the sense that you get a f1.4 of light. and even though it will shoot in aps-c mode, you still get f1.4 in terms of light (f2.1 depth of field, but still 1.4 in terms of light) so it will make lowlight shooting better.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis and more concentrated photons too, so in theory, it will have better signal to noise ratio because it can deliver more photons to each pixel 😅 sorry if i only can stargazing, i can't afford any camera, so i just like to watch review any camera for video from many youtube tech reviewers, hoping someday i can have my own best camera for video 🤣

It will be great in lowlight shooting. Use the mechanical shutter and you won't see any rolling shutter. That will only be with electronic shutter - and you still might be fine with that
my friend and i cant decide what to buy right now of these two for our business... he doesnt like the crop of the 7IV and i dont really care too much... and i think the 7IV with 204.000 ISO is enough for low light scenarios like concerts and a little astronomy photos he want... but he prefer de 7SIII for that. I dont think we need to spend 1k more only for the high ISO and less noise... dont know what we should do we need help jajaja
I think the A7iv is better for photos definitively. if it’s strictly video, the A7Siii is probably better because of the no crop in 60 and more importantly, have 4k120. if you don’t plan to shoot 4K 120, I would get the A7iv. but that’s just me. You and your friend have to make a decision together. the good news is that they are both amazing

I have been watching a whole lot of your videos and when you said that the A7IV does 4K60 @ 1.5 crop I asked myself: “Does that mean that the ASP-C lenses will work with it?
And my guess was correct. I am starting to get it (for some things)
So basically I think I have my upgrade path.
This year I bought the Sony ZV-1 (I need to master it)
Next year I would like to get the Sony ZV-E10, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 (Master and shoot with them for 1-2 years)
And maybe after that get the A7IV body and use the lenses I already have.
Solid plan 👍👍. Yes, Sony does a smart thing by making one mount for full frame and for aps-c so you can use any lens on any camera that has the “E-Mount”

Get people into the Sony camera ecosystem with the ZV-1
If you are not a serious photographer and you have a UA-cam channel, you so much more on your plate than researching all the cameras in the world. (I have decided to use Apple Products, I have decided on FCPX, I have decided on Sony. The goal is to minimise the drag of the production process and focus on the content that will hopefully get you money for the gear you need)
The first place you will be looking at will most probably be Sony.
And if they get you to buy a lense for their cameras you have the Sunk Cost fallacy.
I got a lense for Sony so if I upgrade maybe I will get another Sony.
I’ve heard that you cannot record 1080p 120Fps in 10-bit. Does anyone know if this is true???

So many great jokes here. In the GH5, it's not the shutter angle that lets you dial in the specific shutter speed, it's the syncrho scan feature. Which seems like the same thing as the variable shutter on the a7IV
Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense, shutter angle lets you dial in the shutter relative to frame rate, but the sychroscan lets you make minor adjustments. 👍👍

I wouldn't hold my breath for any bigger firmware update of a7sIII. Sony was never that great with those, but specially not if camera is more then 1 year old. I think that they put everything they wanted in a7s3 and if they update something in the future, that's gonna be just some added lens. I talked with guys from Sony couple years ago about this and what they say is that most of people don't update or care about firmware in cameras. And no 2 is that it takes alot of testing and money to make any significant change in firmware of existing camera and that there isn't such thing as simple copying stuff from one firmware to another. :) I wonder how Panasonic and Fuji can do it but not Sony... But Sony clearly don't like to mess with that. If it's not broken don't fix it 😉

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis They always have. But did they updated A73 when A7C came out or A6600/A6400 with ZV10 stuff or any other camera. If they update something thats going to be that A1 because they have alot of competition up there but a7s3 and FX3 i don't think so.
