It’s a shame how little this adds to Diamond and Pearl, compared to other remakes. HGSS is the gold standard for Pokémon remakes, and even ORAS added significant new content for all the flack it gets. But BDSP seems pretty lacking in both Platinum content and all-new content...
I honestly don’t get why some people don’t like oras. That was probably my favorite remake to be honest.
It isn't lacking in difficulty though. Plenty of people I know found this to be a hard game and plenty fun.
@@dylanarmstrong9328 I prefer HGSS but ORAS was a very solid entry probably the last pokemon game I can replay endlessly
@@azeemsiddiqui4764 how did plenty of people play this game when it ain't even out yet-
@@gurleen7041 There are "other" methods of getting games and that's what they used.
Ok but did they bring back the *Saving a LOT of data* text box when you open the box?
nope saving is a lot faster now.
plus you can turn auto save on, or off.
@@Yusei255 so sad. I guess I can't watch new players suffer as I have for accidentally opening the PC box
What really gets me is, they didn't bother to bring back the Platinum story or world changes at all. I don't know if this was forbidden by The Pokemon Company, or if ILCA just weren't passionate fans - but, if real Gen 4 fans were involved with BDSP's development, this wouldn't have happened. The other areas these games fall short in (especially the points discussed in this review) are further proof of that. Pretty, moderate effort, but more or less phoned in. A real shame.
Plus, when I was a lot younger, and ORAS had just released, I could not WAIT for a Gen 4 remake including later-gen Pokemon and Mega Evolutions. Walking around Hoenn with Unovan/Kalos Pokemon and any Mega of my choice was just fantastic. Being able to play around with "impossible" teams for that region are a big reason why remakes do so well. It's incredibly disappointing that BDSP will have no post-Gen-4 Pokemon and no Mega Evolutions. It won't even have Z-Moves or Dynamax.
Honestly, this would have been better off as a Virtual Console port of Platinum.
It wil probably be available through, don’t sorry
It Will probably be available through DLC. Don’t worry
Don't worry ROM hackers got your back since they can do what ILCA can't do!

They seem like perfectly serviceable games for people who just want a straightforward gen 4 remake, but I won't be buying them. It's nice they improve things like HMs and speed compared with original gen 4, but I'd been hoping for more from a gen 4 remake. ORAS was somewhat divisive, but it felt like it had its own vision for the world, even if it was fairly straightforward in most respects. I wish BDSP had taken more things from Platinum, at least. I feel like I had envisioned a remake that overhauled the world to some extent (and had some sort of Arceus-related Aether postgame segment like the Delta episode... I would have loved that) so the reality just feels disappointing.
I’m going to buy them preowned from GameStop in a month or so, so that they don’t get my money. Also I’m about done with the original diamond so I’m going to finish that first.

All I needed to hear to finally skip a Pokémon game was “team exp share”. You’d think after all the complaints from the previous games, they’d make the team exp share optional but no. Plus throwing in one or two good things shouldn’t be something to change your mind.
Face it, despite pokemon being capable of being bigger and better before, they try to go the safe route and dumb everything down for the younger audience while throwing in one or two things for the older fans. They easily could have made the exp share optional, had more than enough money to have a team work on the battle animations, and made the overworld more fun and alive like Pokémon snap. Instead we got something that a few modders could put together rather than a big jump up in the series like the original platinum was
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of the underground, no longer using an hm slave, and the new 3d models for other trainers in battle. But it feels like they did the bare minimum for a “remake” like they did for the let’s go series.
No lie, it’s probably one of the best games to give your kid, but for older fans that aren’t whales shoving money into a company that doesn’t really care about their fans, you’re better off finding a ds and a copy of platinum (or just emulate the original) instead of shelling out $60 for a minimal upgrade that has had its core mechanics and difficulty dumbed down for a toddler instead of giving some options for older fans. Hopefully legends of arceus is everything that it’s hyped up to be, but knowing pokemon and Nintendo, I know they’ll find a way to ruin something
This is just my opinion of course and I am a long time fan but this is finally the point where I’m done with the franchise until something worth while comes out. The franchise has just gone downhill after gen 5 and I gave the 3ds games a chance but, although I love Pokémon, the franchise is definitely not for me anymore
I personally like the team exp share, i struggled a lot with having the rest of my team keep up with my starter and often times it made me too frustrated to keep playing the game. The remake still had challenge to it ( currently fighting maylene at the time of writing this and she is kicking my butt HARD. )
Edit: also wanted to point out I am also a long time fan, pokemon pearl was my first pokemon game
Platinum was not a big jump up to the series, Black and White changed the whole franchise.
There is a way to bypass team exp share, it’s called use more than 6 Pokémon use like 8-10 thanks to the Pokémon box thing always being in the bag instead of only at Pokémon centers, and switch them in and out the mix up the exp lol.
@@psychopat4402 So you have to actively waste time to make a bad mechanic work? That just sounds like a tedious solution that doesn't really fix the problem. The exp share overall is ok but it really hurts the mid-game because having gym 3 and 4 have the same level ace really hurts the leveling for a bit.
@@twigz3214 well damn bro. How is it wasting time? I’ve always wanted to sue more than just 6 Pokémon now I can and benefit doing it……but that’s actively wasting time according to you LMFAO💀💀💀yes I agree there should be an option to turn it on/off but I was just suggesting an idea. Why you gotta come at me Lmao.
These remakes are a big disappointment when you consider that HeartGold, Soul Silver and ORAS were faithful remakes and had the extra mile put into them when it came to adding new features.
Plus HGSS integrated the Suiciune plotline! To ignore everything from Platinum is just such a disappointment.
ORAS hardly went the extra mile. Where was the Battle Frontier??
@@AS-ri1mb ORAS at least had the delta episode and soaring on latios was awesome, but I agree it was poor in extra content. BDSP is even worse in that aspect. There's no extra content here.
@@Pedroramossss There's less content than Platinum!
@@Pedroramossss and you can collect all the legendaries in that game. It has longevity to it.
I've been on the fence on this one; the art style, lack of significant changes, and the evident non-embracing of the more modern games' mechanics just made it look dry and pointless...there a few interesting additions, but not nearly enough, and the style just doesn't hold a candle to the original pixel art. I don't see why they didn't follow in the footsteps of the Let's Go games, at least graphically. They were a beautiful re-imagining of Kanto.
Ah well, will go through a couple more reviews first, but this looks like a skip.
No
Yeah I still don't know why they didn't take those assets and just made a new sinnoh game with it (obviously they would need to make new assets As well) but it just seems a lot more simple
@@DigiBrad it is strange...especially considering the monumental improvements the other remakes made upon their namesakes. It's even stranger looking at the battle assets...they look incredible! Clearly there was talent and effort put into more detailed/full fledged 3d models. And the let's go assets/engine were sitting there waiting to be used. Maybe a result of this not being put together by gamefreak, as they have their hands full with Arceus (which does look really good, to be fair)...just feels like this was an obligatory remake to appease the fans.
Still very excited for Arceus, and have let's go or Sw/Sh to satiate switch Pokemon needs for the time. I'll probably just start a fresh file on Platinum instead of grabbing this one; it seems to be more feature rich, and still looks great to this day
Skip for me too. There’s just too many better games with actual effort put in. These are lazy and ugly games
Hard skip! Smh, they flopped with these games. Not buying
It might seem like a minor thing to most, but I just can't get over the permanent EXP share. It undermines the experience of actually training your pokemon
Idk man. I like it, not for the fact it makes it easy. But I’m an adult now, I work, so I’m not trying to spend half my little game time I have grinding for exp
@@repeekyraidcero dexcut is not a mechanic that makes everything OP. They're not the same. That said he never said either was OK. Please be mad somewhere else.
You can still train them in the same way though, it just cuts back on the time you waste grinding.
@@Devotionsband yeah afaik you can't turn it off right? Players should at least be able to choose imo whether they want to share exp or not.
It's actually a good thing if the level curve keeps up. The EXP you get without grinding is finite and the game basically punishes you for having a full party. It's an easy game for children. It's supposed to be fun.
I really hope they make a pixel art style remake for gen 5 whenever they get to it. The pixel art in that game was so well done and replacing it with lifeless models like this would ruin the aesthetic of the game so much.
omg please, I love pokemon black and white and they combine 2d with 3d so well
To this day, I think gen 5 was the best Pokemon ever looked. And it played as one of, if not, the bests too
Pokemon black and white remakes in the style of octopath traveler would be SICK
How long till we get remakes of remakes
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 lets go pikachu and eevee was kind of a remake of a remake
I hope more reviews hit this one hard and we see the Pokemon Company and GameFreak wake up to the criticisms of their games. This is a AAA gaming studio with the IP that is the single highest grossing media franchise in the world. They need to either 1) be put under heavier watch and support via Nintendo or 2) expand and give their developers more time. I'm tired of the pride, ego, and lack of innovation to a series that absolutely deserves better. These games should look better, run better, and have the mechanics available to them that previous entires have executed.
Definitely more time would help add better QOL/postgame content, but so far I think the quality of this game outmatches all other pokemon games released on switch so far. It visually looks nicer then sw/sh and it seems to run better too.
Totally agree! I'm a fan, have all game cartridges since Game Boy Color for all gens and see a franchise that deserves so much more being treated with laziness hurts. If they charged 20 buck for these lazy games I would be ok. Full price is not only a rip off - it's extremely disrespectful. I'm a fan, not a stupid person who will buy anything blindly.
Pokemon have never been AAA games, and GF isn't even making this one.
Gamefreak didn’t make this one.
@@PKSunset the moment GF made a contract with Ilca to develop this makes them responsible. It’s from GF cause it’s their IP
It looks alright. It’s just that it could’ve been so much more…
Yep I 100% agree. By keeping it a 1:1 recreation of DPPt, it doesn't ruin the experience much, but it's painful seeing a DS game just get a glorified port when it could be so much more
Pokémon ever since gen 6 in a nutshell
Literally this. The defence is always it 'could've been worse!' or 'at least it has this' you won't make any great games if you only strive to achieve the bare minimum
HGSS was the perfect example of how a remake should look like. Simply the old game, with the newest graphic, the newest mons and some cool new features. If BDSP would have looked like SWSH and had like 200-300 new mons and a nice after story with some challenging features like the battle zone people would have loved it. But like this… i don’t know why they stick to the old graphic that much. I wouldn’t want to play Pokémon Let’s Go in black and white only because red and blue was black and white. I think we have the right to be disappointed. They ruined a masterpiece
You know this is a straight up cash grab when you have to compliment the frame rate and draw distance in a game that looks like this... (No shade to Nintendo Life, just thought it was funny and speaks to the complete lack of innovation in this $80 CAD game.)
$90 CAD TAX INCLUDED 😵
Wasn't the frame rate crap in the original game though? It's a legitimate thing to bring up.
@@pawfector9463 Sure, but that was 15 years ago when the hardware limitations were far more severe. This poor looking game on Switch hardware has absolutely no excuse to have any technical issues. Mentioning it like it's a positive point rather than a neutral expectation shows how little else there is to compliment and how low the bar is 😅
The game or the review?
"These are not bad pokemon by any means, they are still enjoyable" - this is the embodinemt of pokemon experience on the switch. nice games you play for some time and then forget about them, not a bad experience but not a memorable one like games such as black \ white 2 for example provided us. its mediocre, and while there are games out there that are less than that, pokemon could be so much more - and it was, for a pretty long time
The Pokémon company’s motto is: why try?
@@chanhjohnnguyen1867 Yep =\ in the switch era they took the "minimum effort, maximum profit" way of doing things to heart
@@joltx9909 This is a perfect Gamefreak slogan. Hopefully Legends Arceus is at least a step in the right direction.
@@chanhjohnnguyen1867 So the game is bad?
I've never played a pokemon game, but arceus looks interesting
I’m not sure you can say the art style is straight up bad, it’s very subjective. Some love it, some detest it. I myself am somewhere in the middle.
I love the top down perspective but hate the big headed figures, something like in Pokemon Go would be the sweetspot for me.
Exactly I myself quite like it but I've heard alot of mixed opinions from other people.
I think I would say I would prefer if they looked maybe like Let’s Go but at the same time I don’t dislike the chibi look either.
Well it says it's Glenn's review and reviews while trying to be objective are subjective so that's his opinion
Honestly, I was very negative on the Let’s Go games when announced, but I liked them way more than Sword/Shield. And the additions were a lot more interesting than this looks.
It's crazy how pokemon keeps doing that to us😂 with Gen 5, everyone was like these are trash. Now they are beloved. Let's go comes out, "oh my word what is this?" meanwhile they release even more subpar games later on that makes us appreciate the even let's go😂
@@sechabatheletsane9784 Thats the plan I bet! Keep giving us less and less so we can appreciate what they did in the past. x_X
I personally think BDSP are a bit better than LGPE or SwSh, but BDSP are still below average for costing $60, so I'm not going to buy them.
I feel the same. the lets go games, while being bare bones experience in some ways, still did what it did better than SWSH. and I feel the same way here - BDSP are not ambitious in any way, but looks more polished and clean than lenegnds arceus. I wish that at some point we will get a fully 3D game which actually provides a solid experience
As a fan of both the Let's Go games AND sword/shield, I'll say this looks like the least interesting of the switch Pokemon games...a stop gap while we wait for Arceus I guess 🤷🏻♂️
That global xp share tho, i understand that it makes the game more accesible to new players, especially the young ones, but at least make it an option. Don't assume that every pokémon player liked that features...
I think it should be optional. I have to say though…I tried playing Y again and just lost all my patience. My desire to grind like that is just not there anymore.
@@ReineDeLaSeine14 the problem with the global exp share is that the games that use it are designed around its use. In the games that didn't use it, grinding was never an issue for the most part, but if it's disabled in X/Y, the grinding gets to be unbearable.
As soon as I heard him say "permanent, non-removable exp share" I just face palmed.
I will agree it could be made an option but I prefer the exp sharing. I owned the original pokemon pearl when I was younger and struggling to level up the rest of my team with my starters just made it too stressful and not enjoyable. I don't want to spend hours switching pokemon, leveling them up, switching to the next pokemon, leveling THEM up, and so on.
Just make it a toggelable option. People who don't like it turn it off and people who don't like grinding turn it on. Making it an option really benefits both sides.
Honestly I’d rather play Platinum
Very nice to see a review of Pokemon that actually criticises the game when the flaws are so obvious
Kinda red flags those that don’t address the Donphan in the room.
@@HeilRay 😭 donphan. great comment
Your review is like... the best that has been done for this game by far. Others have been way too generous with this game. It's not badly done per se, it's just that it's way too conservative as a remake, and it also lacks of Platinum's extra contents, aside of the outfits with the preorder. All the previous remakes always added something, but this one, it's just the original DP with a different art style, and nothing more. Glad you guys have been the more objective as you could. I'm glad I've chosen you for future reviews.
My biggest problem is the game's pacing. It's so slow. Everything is so slow. The game tells rather than shows at every opportunity. I circled around with the L-stick for 9000 steps and the egg in my party still didn't hatch. Random battles are completely sucking all of the enjoyment out of the game. L and R buttons are actually not utilized in the menus for some reason, and the D-pad is not used for registered items - it just doubles up from the L-stick. Battle messages are as verbose as ever. It all just adds up to a game that is constantly slow and overly verbose to play. It's not fun, and I never got on how bad the script is, or how the audio and soundtrack is much worse than sword and shield, or how bland the overworld is.
@@Katie-hb8iq I think you've just been spoiled by the recent games that have come out. Its slow for a reason. your on a journey. Your not zipping from one city to the next just to get that badge, your travelling with your pokemon, training them to become the best so you can earn that badge. ive had to run back to the pokemon center almost 20 times now because I was getting my butt kicked. Not to mention all the " random battles " are literally the best thing ever. The original always felt so safe and empty, your not the only trainer out there in the world others are out there too.
@@hufflepuffler2575 No! Definitely not! Sword and Shield set the standard for what a full AAA price Pokemon game should be, and this game honestly deserved to be released as a $29.99 game given how much less it is. This is not a AAA game.

Completely agree. It was the one deciding factor of whether or not I'm gonna get these games.
i've never understood why so much people dislike global exp share. i agree, it should be removable for the people that wants a harder, or more true to the original experience, but as long as the exp curve is properly balanced, it drastically reduces grinding time which is quite convenient
@@ZackerYGO I don't think anyone actually has super strong feelings about the exp share itself. Same. I have no idea what they are doing but its not good. Arceus may be great. I know I enjoyed sword and shield for most part although post game content was lacking and the story was kinda lame. Pokemon lets go series was great aside for the fact that you couldn't battle wild pokemon. I hated that mechanic and the exp share like everyone talks about should have an option to turn it off.
The one thing I really don't understand is they should be catering these remakes to the original fan base of the game because they are the most likely ones to buy a game for nostalgia. Instead of dumbing them down to a younger less in depth audience. Its truly the downfall of these games they seem so childish now.
Another thing that grinds my gears is how they leave so much money on the table. Why not port DS pokemon games over to switch like Heart Gold Soul Silver. They wouldn't have to do much to the game. And those were some of the best games every released. They KNOW THE FORMULA. Why not use it. I just will never get why they hadn't ported that game over and charged 40$-50$ for it. They would probably sell more copies than their other switch pokemon games.
Thx For the review I feel it was excellent with good points all around. I never played the original gen 4 so although it’s not the authentic experience I prefer to go through this quickly just to build up the Pokédex.
Pearl was prob my most played pokemon game when it came out and I enjoyed it a lot on the DS, hope you enjoy this remake a lot as your first experience with this gen!
the reviewer really dont know what he is talking about look at the changes ( and not the main trailer features) incl such things as harder battles in game and end game; lots of little things.
I mean if you wanna play the definitive Sinnoh game you would be better off buying platinum
Yeah I’m kind of wondering why I would play this game over the originals. It’s just trying to copy the old games art style (unsuccessfully imo), adds some quality of life stuff but nothing particularly earth shattering. If you don’t love this graphical style I don’t really get how this games really improves on the originals outside the underground areas
Platinum is great but I don't feel like playing a game with outdated movesets, breeding/shiny/etc. mechanics, dated graphics, and slow battle speed just to play through sinnoh
i still like the chibi, but somewhat disappointed that they've also used them in cutscenes which makes it hard to take it seriously
Well think about it, you want them in full model and having it called a better sword and shield?
@@hufflepuffler2575 actually pokemon thought that if they did this art style in BDSP people will look more forward to PLA (legends arceus)
6/10 seems good. Anything more would have been too generous.
The quality of these games bother me so much, if you're remaking a game then you should be using the most recent version of that game as a base. In other words Platinum should've been the game to remake even if you still treated it as Diamond/Pearl to make more money. There's no reason for the Battle Frontier to not be there and there's no reason for the Underground to have features stripped. These games originally ran on a DS, now they're running on a Switch. I skipped Sw/Sh because I wasn't happy with its presentation and linear routes (which sucked because it's the game based on my home country, something I was initially hyped about!) and now I'm skipping this one. I really hope Legends Arceus has more going for it, I don't want to have to rely on fangames to be able to enjoy Pokémon to its fullest potential. :/
same, LA is my last straw. Haven't bought an entry since Ultra Sun so it'll be my first game in years, and i'm only buying instead of pirating to support GF doing something different for once. If it's shit, I'm sticking to fangames and other such tributes from now on.
edit: Ultra Sun came out in 2017, not "decades" ago
if you see pokemon legend arceus trailer, the sign is worrying, i mean its not easy to develop proper open world games with 2016 machine console (nvidia tegra), need one hella of software optimization
@@richard35791 Legends Arceus hasn't really given me much to be excited about, with exception to the new Regional forms (I love Zoura/Zoroark's design) but it's at least breaking away from the classic formula, so the new experience will at least be enjoyable even if the game is lacking in other areas.
I’m having a blast with the games and after playing it I enjoy the art style choice. It gives me the nostalgia I needed and it reminds me of playing my ds. Great blast from the past and would recommend playing it.
As for ignoring platinum is obviously to sell more copies. I’m sure sales are more with two different versions compared to one super version. I do miss platinum. Put 300 hours in it. I run the platinum outfit for brilliant diamond.
@@doomy_doomy2225 Before getting into my criticisms, I want to say that I'm glad you're having fun with the game! I have no doubt I'd like the gameplay because I have a lot of nostalgia for the originals, I started with Pearl after all. But I don't like the art direction and despite watching gameplay it hasn't grown on me. They stripped back contests and the Secret Bases in the underground, which were the features I loved as a kid. They removed the dress up feature (despite Sun/Moon having a photo booth feature they could've copied.) and they've made the Exp. Share mandatory, which is a choice I never agreed with as having it optional worked just fine and was basically a difficulty option on its own. Personally because of these changes I know I'd only play through these games once, so I'm not going to waste money on them. I hope you understand I don't criticise these games because I think they're the worst games ever (they aren't) but I expect better from a company that makes as much as they do.
I've seen gameplay of these remakes without the patch, they should've never been released. Keep in mind not everyone is going to be able to download that patch. What if they get it for Christmas and don't have an internet connection (perhaps staying with family over Christmas, travelling etc.?) Well they're going to get softlocks, game crashes, the placeholder music in battle and even some NPC's like the name rater not functioning properly. Look at HGSS and how much content they carried over and added. ORAS didn't have the Battle Frontier (and they should've, I had the same opinion back then) but they did have the Delta Episode and you could catch Deoxys, who was previously event only alongside a bunch more Pokémon that even had some specific requirements to capture. Yet BD/SP stripped back content or cut some completely and the event legendaries are still going to be locked behind events. Can you understand why I expect more from these games when it's been done before?
I still hope you continue to enjoy the game but hopefully you can understand where fans like myself are coming from.
I like the random grass Pokémon appearances. The element of surprise is needed. It’s boring just seeing Pokémon that are already there…
Nothing beats the Pokémon blue days where you tried to catch an Abra that used to teleport near mistys gym!!

@@noahwesterberg8566 it's first party because Nintendo published the game and they owned the IP somewhat and the trademark.
Nintendo didn't make the game. Game Freak did.
Doesn't look too bad, but what I REALLY want is a new Pokemon that's like an improved black/white, in terms of visuals. Don't care too much about megas, but the 2d on 3d art style of the ds games always feel the best to me out of the other games.
Great review, but I actually disagree with the lack of overworld Pokemon encounter and the Chibi art style.
But you still have a fair point with Cyrus.
One thing I truly don't get Is the dislike of random battles. I find this feature really enjoyable. I honestly kinda love the idea of not knowing what you're gonna get, or grinding for a rare spawn.
I think people would complain if there were not random battles.
I agree with the art style. It would be awesome to see this game with a style similar to Octopath traveler or Triangle Strategy.

I dont find the overworld aesthetic to be such a negative impact. I actually find the chibi art style to be ver charming and a logical step up from the original look of the games. In a way it sort of reminds me of the final fantasy 3 and 4 3d remakes and how they adapted the 2d art to 3d chibi designs.
I don’t think these remakes are meant to be super different especially since they aren’t made by game freak. It could be an experiment by the pokemon company to see how other developers handle the property that way GF can focus on new games and someone else can work remakes and ports
my heart is still broken ever since the announcement for this game came out
Same... They had a chance to do something with the remake, but didn't.
I’m mixed on the chibi art style but in a weird way I’m glad that they kept these largely faithful to the originals instead of changing too much. Still getting these regardless because I know I’ll have a lot of fun.
Totally. Like it would've been cool to see how they could've pushed the graphics, but keeping things similar to the original kind of makes it fell like familiar comfort food
I’m still baffled how they chose to not include any platinum changes, Diamond and pearl are just bad in comparison with platinum
@@Xpliven Well they were mostly bad compared to Platinum due to lacking plenty QoL upgrades that’d eventually be introduced in Platinum, and from the looks of it those QoL upgrades will be in the remake as well along with plenty others. Platinum’s content is great, but it’s not the *only* reason it’s great.
The guy who wrote this seems very biased against the chibi artstyle, when in the context of the artstyle it looks pretty decent.
They also seem to detriment the fact that it’s similar to the DS versions and even say you may as well just play those. But considering most of the Switch user base likely didn’t play them and it would cost them nearly double the cost of the game to hunt down a DS and an original copy, it’s a pretty ridiculous suggestion.
The reviewer clearly never played the original Diamond and Pearl either. They were notorious for being slow af.
Pretty decent isn't good enough in context of the Pokémon Company, which has a huge amount of money and is not some indie game company
There is more to the review folks.
I dunno what surprised me more, an accurate, non biased review or the mediocre remake.
It felt pretty biased to me, especially with the constant comparisons to HGSS.

If u want an better Sinnoh experience, I recommend an hack called Renagade Platinum. Basically the same game. But being much faster paste, leveling up Pokemon is faster, not to deal with party members relying HM'S, more accessible Pokemons and some Pokemons had some changes or added to them.

I’m gonna pick up these games mainly because I enjoy the Sinnoh games a lot and have already played Diamond, Pearl and Platinum dozens of times. And so hopping back into a more modern and faithful remake of the game sounds very enticing to me. There’ll of course be peeps who wished for more drastic changes like previous remakes, or more Platinum additions, or who are put off by the art style, which I personally quite enjoy. And even with said art style, I personally think this’s the most impressive a Pokémon game has looked in terms of its lighting and textures.
But these were advertised as more faithful remakes right out the gate, and since I both want and expect nothing more than a fun retread through Sinnoh, I’m personally much looking forward to them. They won’t be one of the best or most impressive games of the year, but as long as I enjoy playing ‘em, then that’s personally good enough for me.

Well maybe it is because I play Platinum again for a Playthrough and thus got involved with Gen 4 recenly, but I noticed the change I wanted most. Updates to the special Trainers. Not with the Pokémon, but with their abilities and moesets.
Roark: Geodude has Rollout and Defens Curl, Onix is now a Sturdy Onix instead of one with Rockhead and his ace now has a Ground Type move.
Mars: Her Zubat has U-Turn and her Purugly also got some moves adjusted.
I stop here as to not take to much away, but this is the thing I wanted to see: Them changing parts of the Special Trainer battles and it didn't stop with these two.
If you want to know I got past Jupiter at the time of writing this and I am curious what else about those Moesets changed. But for now I would say they improved on the original.

Honestly, this doesn't dissuade me from buying the game. A lot of the complaints came from the artstyle and, while I know I'm in the minority, I like the chibi 3d artstyle. I think it's really cute. But a lot of this review felt like "the artstyle is bad. This part is good, but have we mentioned the artstyle?" and so on. If that's the main complaint about the game, then I'm excited. If that wasn't it, then I believe that remaking this review to be a bit clearer on your issues might not be a bad idea. While I agree that this game's impact is certainly lower than the other remakes and I think out of the five remakes, it is number 4, I think there is more to be said about this game that hasn't been.
Honestly I totally agree with this, most people I've heard from basically comes down to "This is lazy because Chibi Art looks bad" I mean seriously, if people are complaining about that, just stick with the other Sinnoh game coming out in January and let others enjoy this one if they want to.
In defense of the review, there's not much of a difference from the original, other than modernization and, yes, the artstyle. So I get the cynicism.
I hate this style, there's no reason for me to buy these games, I replayed Platinum recently, and this game does not offer any meaningful upgrades.
Also, there is not all the platinum content and the exp share is always on and stuff from newer Pokemon games like Pokemon in the overworld are missing.
Like, they said more than "artstyle bad"
I want to elaborate, Platinum is absolutely the definitive Gen 4 experience, especially when looking at these games. It just felt like this entire review was "we were hoping for this game to be something that Nintendo flat out said it wouldn't be" while not talking about any of the new additions, like the post game rematches. @Joel Johnson Link's Awakening looks a lot nicer although they both go for the chibi style.
I absolutely love the artstyle besides the chibi models in the overworld.
I love the chibi art style in games like Links Awakening but the art in these games feel so much more cheap, barebones, and less detailed. It’s significantly worse than something like LA. Honestly I would’ve preferred either Sword and Shield 3D models or straight up OG pixel to this. The character models look especially bad in the over world imo.
yea, I personally enjoy it. I hate when people call them lazy, safe is a better choice of words imo. Probably will be my most played pokemon game on switch.
Man I love playing Pokémon around Christmas. To be honest I will probably still buy it.
Me too! I tend to start a Pokémon game around December every year! It’s become my Christmas tradition!
The postgame is great so still worth the buy! Reviewers don’t even mention it which is annoying. It’s suppose to be one of the most challenging Pokémon games postgame and has a lot of additional content that the originals didn’t have.
@@NoobGamer-di1dw how was the difficulty in the main game? The last few games were so easy it really hampered my enjoyment
@@benvinciblevince4067 I’ve heard the elite 4 is still tough cause they’re fully EV trained and all their Pokémon have perfect IVs. The postgame has a big difficulty spike though according to people who have gotten it early. Many have said it’s a challenge. Gym leader rematches are in too and they’re fully EV trained and perfect IVs too. There are some others too basically any important character in the postgame will have a fully EV trained team and perfect IVs for all their Pokémon. Also they use platinum teams in rematches I believe and all the gym leaders have an extra Pokémon they didn’t have in platinum for the rematches.
@@benvinciblevince4067 idk how challenging the story will be, but the postgame seems like it’ll be fun and definitely more of a challenge than any of the more recent Pokémon games. On top of being fully EV trained and perfect IVs they also have hidden abilities on some Pokémon and held items on all of them too.
DONT LISTEN TO THIS REVIEW OR THE HATERS, EVERYBODY LOVE BDSP, PLEASE BUY THIS GAME.
