Great job there on that halibut action Zac. I just returned back from Sitka. Coho fishing was awesome and the 7oz jigs I ordered from you really payed off. Depends. If the cod doesn’t have worms, it’s very good table fare. They are similar to rockfish. They don’t get very big, so you don’t get much meat as compared to a halibut. But Pacific cod tend to be wormy, which makes them less than desirable for the table.
Agree - I quite enjoy pacific cod but as @cohoanglervancouverwa6755 points out it is important to check for worms after filleting. Cod are a wonderful, sweet, mild, flakey white fish - just delicious! Tight lines! Captain Zac
What is the best way to cook halibut and what is your favorite way to eat halibut and does the size make much difference in the taste? I from Texas we don't see much halibut here. Flounder is common here.
Hi there - good timing, check this out for a few go-to recipes! ua-cam.com/video/_EQXC0CezR8/v-deo.html Yes the smaller fish (80lb and under) are better to eat than the larger "barn doors" (100lb+). The smaller ones will have great firm texture and sweetness. Larger fish can have softer meat and sometimes has more worms. Plus the large fish are the breeders so from a conservation perspective it makes sense to harvest the smaller ones. Tight lines! Captain Zac

Most often I'll attach it to the anchor line but I've used the downrigger as well to ensure the scent trail is close to the baits. Do you like to chum for halibut? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@CaptainZac yes. I love using Chum. I usually drop a Chum bag down on a fishing pole with a bunch of weight. I set it about a ft off the bottom, so that when waves go by it bounces up and down on the bottom, dispersing scent... if tides are favorable I can use it to 300ft
