@@CaptainZac they are usually in one to 10,000 halibut. Their guts are on the other side. They are pretty rare that’s for sure. Really enjoy your videos.

@@CaptainZac the bigger and older they are the more the barnicles build up on them. It creates drag on them as they move through the water. I have seen them in the shallows close to shore in rocky bottoms scraping their bodies on the bottom to dislodge the barnicles but it is harder for them to get off their fins.

Hey @Derekfowler88 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this derby action! We caught most of these fish from 40ft to 110ft deep. Are you coming to Juneau in June? If so, you'd be able to troll for hatchery king salmon in relatively shallow water without downriggers. There are a few "Terminal Hatchery Areas" that offer a great chance to catch a king salmon. Hi Bill many thanks for the positive comment and yes indeed this cold spell is something else! Erie tribs are mostly locked up. There is a winter king salmon season in Alaska for those willing to brave the cold while trolling. I'm hoping to catch the tail end of that season when it warms up a bit in March. I have actually been tinkering with trolling the 1oz Fire Eye Glow Jig for salmon in a few different configurations. No doubt that Mary would toss out a 7oz-er behind the boat while trolling and immediately hook up with a big king! The hot flasher this day was the Sweet Abbey Shortbus flasher.
