ActRaiser (1990) is a critically acclaimed SNES game which combines two major gameplay phases: a god simulator and an action platformer. You play the role of God "the Master", who awakens from his slumber only to find that the human civilization is completely wrecked, and hordes of demons are roaming free.
This run plays through the "Special Mode," which is a mode where the god simulators are removed and the levels become harder. The Japanese version is used for even higher difficulty.
If you enjoyed this movie, be sure to check out the run of the regular mode. (tasvideos.org/1747M)
that non-stop boss rush with no healing at the end... just brutal
Love that we had time to hear the Northwall stage 1 music all the way through, I was worried he was gonna go too fast
1:43 my favorite part of ActRaiser TASes: WALL JUMPS
Possible to do on console too.
@@SirVG Yes but is it easy to do?
Love those Mode 7 Sound effects. Remomds me of Illusion of Gaia.
You do realize that both ActRaiser and Illusion of Gaia were made by Quintet? (Also, ActRaiser came first.)
@@SirVG Enix, yes. Quintet, no. I saw Actraiser when it was on Nick Arcade. I played Gaia first.
Mode 7... Sound effects? Mode 7 is a scaling/rotation graphic effect.
@@GuitaurenHero Enix was the publisher. Quintet was the developer.
@@SyxxFtH8 It was mode 2 most of the time actually.
The 20th Century fox theme 21:44

These old games didn't play around. It's like they asked "How difficult can we make this while still technically being possible to beat?"
I agree, the difficulty of some older Nintendo games is awesome. Though actraiser was never super hard for me lol
This is why TV Tropes named this difficulty trope "Nintendo Hard".
Actraiser is easy compared to Super Ghouls n Ghosts
@@SonofTiamat I beat this on special/professional as a kid, but never beat super ghouls and ghosts.
Emphasis on "technically" many of the nes and snes games were straight up bullshit wit their difficulty, being either too easy or downright impossible with almost no in-between
This is the best SNES game I ever played to date and I miss it a lot
The BEST SNES game??? I mean come on, with Donkey Kong Country? And Final Fantasy 4-5-6??? And MegaMan X??? Double Dragon??? Chrono Trigger??? Secret of Mana??? I don’t think so. This looks like a cheap clone of Castlevania to me. And not nearly as good.
@@ryuukoyazaki3466 ok I can agree with mega man x but I’m willing to bet you don’t know much about this game. The special mode only shows the level segments but normally in between those there’s a worldbuilder segment that I think is part of what makes this game so good. I can see why it looks like castlevania as it does use similar level concepts (lots of enemies lol) but there’s still more to it than that
You’re right, guys. I don’t know much about the game or neither have ever played it. I just saw a side-scroller (with decent graphics) and thought: how is this any different from a Castlevania or GnG? lol I should definitely research more into this game. I already watched the “main TAS” with the overworld mode and it had some explanations that might give some more context to understanding the game. Thank you for your feedback.
@RGGNC you’re right. What is it about Donkey Kong Country that you don’t personally like if I may ask? Is it the story in the game? The repetitiveness? Some consider it as one of the best 2D platformers on SNES. I grew up playing the game so as a kid I didn’t think too deeply into it but I guess it was the music that caught my attention. :)
@@Stitastic oh yeah, I watched the longer TAS that had explanations. It seemed a lot more interesting than the actual 2D platforming segments shown in this TAS, to be honest. :) Also, Megaman X is an awesome game - a true powerhouse. I get energized everytime I hear the start of that kickass BGM (VGM?) in Stage “0” before you fight the robot bosses. lol
So, the music in part two of act one was always the Filmore theme originally? In the US version it uses a later theme in that stage, and as I was playing Actraiser Renaissance I noticed the music was Filmore's theme... as I guess was originally intended.
No platforms at the Marana act two's boss neither, maybe they were added because the developers thought that boss was too difficult otherwise.
Rest in peace, buddy.

Great game but Remake is awful, black loading screens everywhere.
