I think that buying top of the line PC at least once in a lifetime is a nice experience ;) Also "crazy" people that bought 1080Ti when it came out and was so expensive, actually won and could play comfortably for nearly a decade, avoiding mining craze and pandemic GPU prices. And because 1080Ti has 11GB of VRAM it can STILL handle 1440p nowadays.

I had to choose between the 11 GB 1080ti or the 8 GB 2080 at the time, and I nervously chose the 2080. 6 years later I'm very glad I made that decision even though my 2080 struggles with less vram. well below the average person has no idea that hi fidelity gaming motion/ graphics was proven to stimulate the same part of the brain as what opiate drugs do, so as compared to drug addictions, buying the top-of-the-line gaming rig ever 2-3 years is way freaking cheaper than spending that cash on narcotics. @@FrozenVayneGames I am a PC Builder and advisor. And almost all the RTX4090 setups I built or advised I paired it with 1440p monitor and not a 4K monitor. Many others in the community questioned it like why not a 4K monitor to go with that Powerful setup. It is the matter of longevity as you said. I expect those guys to use the PC for good 5-6Yrs. And sadly RTX4090 is not capable of pushing 4K to 60fps over that long period of time. 1440p on the other-hand it can manage comfortably even after years with new titles that drop over time.

I like this style of review . There are very few reviewers focussing on the subjective experience of owning such hardware rather than just raw FPS. I like the visuals and eye candy and have a 4k144 32 inch powered by a 4080 Super. The 4090 would suit me better but £1800 is too much to pay just so you don't need to compromise settings in new titles. (The 4080 Super can do 4k100+ native in many cross gen titles which is what I mostly play , and 4k60+ with DLSS/some compromises).
I bought the 4080 Super to replace a dead 2080ti on an aging 8700k system which I'll replace in the next 18 months. There I do like the idea of buying top end components for peace of mind (thinking 9950x3d/x870e board/64gb ddr5)- I didn't think I'd get 6 and a half years out of those parts. So in my mind it's justified for a platform, maybe not with a GPU so much.

I really relate to this video. I built my first pc in 2012 for $450 and it understandably struggled to run modern games past 2014. I had intended on upgrading it for basically a decade, but I was broke and busy due to college, med school, and then residency. Coming out of residency one of my first big purchases was building a brand new pc with a 4080 super and ryzen 7800x3d. This thing flawlessly runs any game I throw at it at max settings and is basically silent. It feels like my waiting to upgrade paid off and I'm happy knowing that I likely can get another 10 years out of this pc lol.

Even if you need upscaling, at 4K DLSS performance upscaling is better than 1440p DLSS Quality lol. The funny thing is, while I love having a powerful card such as a 4090, I often lock my FPS to 90 - 100FPS as I feel like it feels nice and fluid for the games I play plus it dramatically reduces the power draw of my 4090. So... effectively I could have saved a lot and bought a 4080 as I essentially handicap my card by limiting the FPS but then again there are some cases where only a 4090 will even hit 90 - 100 FPS so it still works out worth it for me.

My experience with a 4090 setup:
I've always been a console gamer, never owned a PC before in my life, mainly sticking to PlayStation because of the convenience of just sitting down and playing instantly and I thought getting a PC would be a pain. I allready have a PS5 and a 55inch LG C2 OLED so it was a solid pair as is.
I don't know what happend but I just woke up in January and decided I wanted a PC, the idea of running games at 120FPS+, native 4K with RT was very appealing, especially considering i always loved the idea of playing games at max settings and see their full potential
I had two options, eaither get a mid range build and see how i liked it or go for the best of the best and hope I liked it, the main thing i wanted was something that would top my PS5
I decided to go for the latter, for a 4090, 7800X3D, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and the AW3225QF 240HZ, 4K OLED monitor to top it off. All in all (got a really good deal on a 4090) came to £3000 (monitor made up £1000 of that. Had the build since April.
Do I regret it? Hell no, it's another level compared to console and running everything at max settings is a blast, I do think it was overkill, especially because my main goal was to top my PS5 but it really is a great experience when I game.
If you have the funds it's definitely worth having it atleast once, especially considering a GPU of that spec will last you a long time.
However a 4070 would likely do a similar thing, but having no limits and never having to make compromises in power is really nice

I have an undervolt profile for my 4090 that I use when playing "light" titles. For example, in RE2 I was able to get my card to run the game at 4k 120 at 270 watts!

Great honest review. I have always felt that if a person is a PC gamer they should at least one time in their life build a top tier performing gaming PC. Let's be honest, most PC gamers usually play on mid tier specd PCs and when upgrading GPUs are usually looking at the same tier of the newer generation. It may or may not be completely worth it for the avg gamer. But it's quite an experience owning a top performing gaming PC that allows you to play any and every game at the highest settings and not having to worry about it. Like I said, everyone should do it at least once in their life because life is way too short. Enjoy this hobby that we all spend many hrs doing.

I have a 7900xtx and 7800x3d, one of the reasons that I built it is that I dont intend to upgrade again for another 10 years if possible.
I built a 290x and fx8350 in 2014 and it managed to run spiderman on medium settings in 2022/3. I skipped the whole am4 gen but was able to still enjoy most of the games.
The minimum requirement doesn't mean that the game wont run. It only indicates that it won't be at a standard that developer wants you to experience the game. Now that we have fsr and fluid frames GPU longevity has increased.

      @Viperveteran 2 місяці тому

@@pmao I have had it running since Aug 2023. The games run very well at 4k obviously if you intend to run it at 1080p it handles that with ease.
The only issues that I have had with games is running them with radeon adrenaline sometimes games don't like settings being duplicated you have to pick either the game manages it or adrenaline does. However, if the game doesn't like adrenaline it will just crash. So configuration can take a while to get right.
As for light multitasking I have never had an issue with it. I run rainmeter, start 11, fences, playnite, hwinfo, display fusion on a triple monitor set up and still use multiple browsers and programs without any issues. I do have 64gb of ram though.
The only thing I ran into is that they run hotter than my 290x and FX8350 combo. I was quite surprised but that is due to the CCD being stacked on top of the cores. I idle around 45c on the die and around 20-25c on the cores. Normal usage is around 50c with all the background apps and around 30-45 on the cores.

I went with an all AMD box when I did a total system overhaul in 2022 and I regret going with a Radeon RX 6800XT because the ray-tracing implementation is clearly inferior. In all other metrics the card is a beast, easily able to handle 4K resolutions at max detail in most older/less demanding games and max detail at 1440p with newer ones but I am a bit worried about how future proof it will be as undoubtedly more and more games will start to implement ray tracing. I should have been less impatient and waited for the Nvidia cards to come back in stock. Regardless, this PC is my console replacement for the foreseeable future and I am happy with it at this point.

I thought about going the 4090 route but my entire rig is around $1500 and that's over 3 years of upgrades. I'm planning to upgrade to a 5080 build when that drops. I think my max budget for a build would be $2K. That would give me the peace of mind of upgrading parts every few years. If I had a top end build over $3K, I'd probably want it to last 5+ years to get my money's worth, but I know I'd still be tempted to spend money to upgrade way before that anyway, so I try to get the best parts I can while keeping things reasonable affordable. 😂

Thanks for the honest outlook on need vs want when it comes to modern PC gaming. I do think the 4090 is great if you're running a 4k monitor, but for 1440p, even ultrawide, it is overkill.
I've been debating getting a 4080 Super over the past week since Trump will instate tariffs on all electronics made in China, but have a hard time justifying any area where my current 6800 XT is not enough - I even managed to play TLOU Part 1 in 4K with FSR and had a great time. So really, it all hinges on the RTX 5000 series and its availability and affordability, but that might not be enough for me to upgrade either...probably a good problem to have, lol.

My system is ooold but it does everything I need it to do. I recently bought a different cpu and more ram as a sort of mini upgrade, I went from a i7-3930K which I had overclocked to 4.10GHz base is 3.20GHz to a xeon E5-2687W v2 and iv definitely noticed a slight difference as the xeon has 2 more cores then the i7-3930K but it's base clock is lower and it should be turbo'ing to 4GHz but I only ever see it go to 3.8GHz, have thought abt putting my 3930K back in but being a sever chip it allows me to do more at one time so running multiple programs is definitely more easier on the xeon.
The rest of my pc is on a X79 Sabertooth motherboard with 32GB DDR3 1600 and two EVGA 970 SC's w SLI. I game/upload in 1080p and it does it well tbf😂

coil whine is expected with a pny rendition of the 4090, i'm rocking the rog strix and the thing is a stealth bomber, no whine, no sound from the fans, nothing. Anyways i got a very similar setup except i have a different cpu (ryzen 9 7950x3d), same amount of ram, but i don't regret it at all i also bought a asus pg32ucdm monitor to go along with it and playing cyberpunk maxed out with path tracing turned on in 4k while maintaining over 100 fps is the reason why i don't regret it (and not only that game).

For me it was buying a 3090FE from eBay as it wasnt available in Canada no matter how long id waited (2+yrs at that point) but id figure id try again with a friend to nab a 4090FE since i wanted to use RTX Remix (4000 series only) but again the GPU has been outa stock online from launch till no longer produced. Thankfully buddy who did get one will sell me his 4090 since i know 5090 will never be in stock.

I have a 4090, 5800x3D, and Neo g9. This is the 1st Top Build(for a very short time lol) I ever owned. The one thing I will say is the People who have the 4090 have what will be one of the best VALUE Top End Cards ever made. I do not see it not being enough to get a nice experience even when the 5000 and 8000(AMD) series cards release.

As a simracer with triple 4K setup I wish I could afford 4090 or 5090. I just set my monitors to 1440p so I can get stable 100fps in ACC (not maxed out, DLSS Q) with 4070TI and it looks way better than 4K with DLSS Performance (and smoother!).

In August of 2023, I bought an RX 7900 XTX. I wasn't really in the market for it because I also have an RX 6800 XT but Newegg had some insane open-box sepcial on an ASRock Phantom Gaming OC model here in Canada for (the equivalent of) $850USD. I couldn't say no to that.
I'm in the same boat as you, I prioritise frame rate over visuals (especially RT) and so my XTX was the perfect card for me. I also bought it because I wanted the 24GB of VRAM to ride out the storm in case of another GPU shortage (caused by AI hardware production).
I don't regret it but I also paid about HALF what you probably did for that overpriced monster.

I work on game dev far more than gaming. I got an M3 Max, and it runs games around 100 fps at 1440p. Mate that with great battery life, and my game dev work flow is far more stable because of MacOS.
The hardware speed of PC's is undeniable man. They are bastions of speed and power. Reliability can kill it though.
The Mac games good enough for the amount of gaming I actually do.

nice video but i got something to say about this though, hope you read this!
with a 4090 which is far above anything, similar like the launch of 1080ti.. i think 10 years from now you will look at the card with alot of thankfullness, since you dont really max it out and you dont seem the type to upgrade every gen to the best gpu, this will be repayed to you in value 10 years from now.
A couple of 1080ti users that i know were also thinking like this and till this day they dont seems to want to upgrade since they dont feel the need for it.
People will have to upgrade every 3 to 4 of years if they have a mid range pc, i have a 3070 im not gonna play 1080p on a 27inch monitor xD
Remember 980 ti was marketed as the 4k gpu, in the old games yes but now no chance, this gpu will like every other flagship age.
this gpu will be the 1440p legend probably in the future, 1080ti was the 1080p legend ;).

5:49 I was going to say this in the comments but you said it. For certain niches, like flight sims in VR, it's still hard to have too much power. If that's what you're doing, normal hardware reviews with their price/performance comparisons are less useful.

brother, water-cool those babies. both the CPU and GPU. Create a custom loop, and hang up the build on the wall. You own a piece of gaming history where the turmoil with gpu's and CPU's was arguably just as hot as it was during covid (for different reasons obviously). Keep that chunk of gaming history cool and running forever!

I play VR racing sims and a lot of VR in general and wish I had a 4090. I’m running a 4070ti super, i7 13700f and 32 gb of DDR5 @5600mt with a 850watt PSU. VR can be taxing especially on Sims. I will say my system is completely air cooled and my CPU and GPU pretty much runs around 50-55c under load.

Good thing you went with the 4070ti. A friend of mine is into VR & got the 4070 w/o much research. It was chugging like crazy, so he got a 4090. Then, he saw it needed more VRAM than the 4070 had.
In the end tho, he returned the 4090 and just turned down the settings. He liked the 4090, but it just wasn't worth $1,600 to him.

Instead of a high end GPU it is better to just get a XX70TI model and upgrade that as the next gen comes. AI advances rapidly every VGA GEN has new features (frame generation, DLSS new versions etc) so on the long run u get much better value. In my case: i bought a 4070ti when its released and will upgrade when the 5070ti arrives in a few months. 5070ti will be like a 5-8% stronger than the 4090, so with less money spent overall i will have a 4090S like card with newer techology, software support etc.

It's no such thing as overkill when not all games are optimized well and people who got monsters like a 3080-4090 were prepared for the future, and had they got a weaker card, they wouldn't be able to run those same games at high settings.
It's people who said a year ago 16GB of RAM was enough, yet over the last 4 years, games need that or more.

If it wasn't so insanely overpriced and wouldn't have this horrible power connector I'd consider it being a good GPU. For pure professional grafic design purposes it probably still is.
But I get what u mean and I'm glad u enjoy your experience. I went overkill on my pc too for the first time and I don't regret it if it's basically for once only.
