THE SAILS OF CHARON!!!! yes!!!!!! chuck it on repeat!
I consider Sails of Charon on almost the same level as Stargazer, as in how much it influenced later power metal, amazing godfathers to an epic genre of metal.
@@flaviusdamian7741 TOTALLY. I can feel that. Whenever I eventually do a 'favourite metal songs I've discovered so far' both those tracks will be on the list.
@@kirawasareactor megadeth rust in peace its a masterpiece album u should listen!
You picked the 70s but got distinctly different eras! Ha. The first two songs off the Lovedrive album are the start of the new era for the Scorpions and that album happened to feature.... Michael Schenker! He'd quit UFO and rejoined the Scorpions but ended up leaving before the album was done, he is playing lead guitar on Holiday.
@@kirawasareactor and if you're going for the Uli Jon Roth era the best tracks are:
We'll Burn The Sky
Steamrock Fever
Catch Your Train
In Trance
Fly to the Rainbow
Top of the Bill
Backstage Queen
Speedy's Coming
Robot Man
Uli tours a lot and is a pretty special guitar player
Sails of Charon blew me away when I heard it too cause I only knew 80s Scorpions.
Song almost sounds like it could be Dio or Rainbow.
Should try Animal Magnetism that's sick man
Just for the record, UFO are a British band. Both brothers were in Scorpions originally Michael jumped ship to UFO early on, then later formed the 'Michael Schenker Group' or MSG. That's you told.
“FLY TO THE RAINBOW!” 🌈
Holiday is one of my fav scorpion song
I first heard Sails of Charon 6 months ago. I acted the same way you did and I’m a 50 year old man.
Scorpions was originally founded in 1965 and they are still going! They have a new album coming out this year!
CRAZY!!!
I've been to 2 separate concerts part of 2 separate "Farewell" tours... I think one was 10 years ago.
Unfortunately, they must stopped the project because Greg Fidelman abandoned their project :(
This virus is totally suck at all..
I was lucky enough to see them live in 2019 right before the goddamn pandemic canceled everything! Amazing rockers!
@@FarazOloumi Yeah me too! I saw them 1 day before first case of covid-19 in my country announced last year. That was close and it's really amazing to saw them and singing along all of their song together in Yogyakarta...
my fav early scorps would have to be IN TRANCE-i
More great Scorpions:
- The Zoo
- Animal Magnetism
- In Trance
amen
The Zoo is a monster of a song! China White and the instrumental Coast To Coast are my personal faves
I fell in love with the title track Animal Magnetism when I saw the movie "The Wrestler" when a ripped Marisa Tomei stripped to it. Now I think it's the best stripper song ever 🤩
@@bothellkenmore Lol. A good a reason as any to love it!
You will love The Scorpions " No one like you" . This was off the Blackout album, the first one I heard."Holiday" is also a great Scorps hit, with some great guitar.
When watching Uli live the sound comes from his guitar but you'd swear he was just casually sipping tea. Effortless
Finally!! You really need to listen to more of the 70's version of the Scorpions. In Trance, Longing For Fire, Pictured Life, Yellow Raven, We'll Burn the Sky, Your Light, I've Got To Be Free, The Riot of Your Time.
Longing For Fire, such an underrated melodic guitar driven song. An Uli Roth masterpiece.
@@Ogrelord5150 Yeah, she will dig the bass and the solos. It is short and sweet, but full of energy.
Yellow Raven 🐥 is a very beautiful song 🎸🎼🎵
Hes right amazing
Lonesome Crow is another of their hidden gems from their younger years.
thank you!
She will hate that, it is their hippy album dude
@@nonrevnosnibormetalbeerrev6251 So? Better to have her try it and discover what she enjoys. Then, she can make up her own mind as an individual instead of others trying to decide what she should 'hate', hate is cancer for the mind and soul.
@@WesleyThibodeau yes I know bro, I am probably in the top 5 fanatic fans of the scorpions for ever but if she listened to lonesome crow she would bypass the great albums as this is not good at all, a bit like eye to eye, two albums to be forgotten, sorry
@@nonrevnosnibormetalbeerrev6251 That's only your opinion, it means nothing to me. My tastes aren't your taste. Have a good day.
Gotta gotta gotta listen to drifting sun, it’s soooooo good! ( Uli sings on that one!)
One of my favourite Hard Rock bands. I got into them in 1984 and then realised they had a big back catalogue to catch up on. Wonderful band
Scorpions is one of my favorite band of all time. Remember my first time see them live back in 2014 in Padova, it was a dream come true. They are so professional on writing songs like ballads, love ones, song of hope and heavy ones as true heavy metal songs. Great reaction. Greetings from Italy ✌️👋
Wow....she really has come across the greatest stuff now. Sails is a masterpiece. This reaction is very much like my 13 yr old ears hearing it for the first time. Was so excited! Good on you little lady! Fantastic.
The 9min holiday version is the best, those last 3 minutes should never have been removed
A phenomenal album overall. I grew up on this. Drove many hundreds of miles for trout fishing and insect collecting listening to these songs. As for Sails of Charon; when Uli opens up with a solo at the beginning of the song you KNOW it is going to be good.
Kira if you like Psychedelic mood you have to listen Fly to the Rainbow from the album with the same name of 1974, Night Lights from1975 In Trance, Polar Nights and Crying Days from Virgin Killer of 1976.
I've seen your other Scorpions reaction video and as you seem to want some faster songs, here are a few faster ones: Catch Your Train, He's a Woman - She's a Man (both with Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar), Can't Get Enough, Blackout (with Matthias Jabs on lead guitar).
Also We'll Burn The Sky is a great songs. Uli once descriped it as some sort of mini symphony.
Scorpions early records up until the mid eighties are exceptional. Oh god... a week's wait! Thanks for those few happy minutes!
Sails of Charon is so dam groovy
Holiday is a great song. So nice to listen to when taking a long drive.
Sails of Charon is my favourite Scorpions song and the Uli Roth era also my favourite Scorpions era. Up to 1978 Scorpions was one hard rock band with progressive, funky, even punk elements to their music. Uli Roth was a hippie and a genius and still is till today (hippie and genius). But from 1978 when Roth left the band (or they fired him, I don't remember) Scorpions made a more commercial turn to their career that led them to be recognisable globally. Lovedrive was the first album of this turn. Their two biggest commercial hits are "Rock you like a Hurricane" and "Wind of change" but their 70 s era with Roth was the best artistically. Great reaction, I really like your enthusiasm and your very good taste in music.
Always felt that "Still Loving You" was far bigger than "Rock You Like a Hurricane". I've nothing to back that up though, never looked it up :)
@@PlacidDragon It is a better song .Talking about commercial success Still loving you unfortunately was in a lower position. Their top 100 ( in Billboard ) are "Wind of change #4 , Rock you like a Hurricane #25 , Send me an angel # 44 , Still loving you #64 , No one like you #65 and Rhythm of love #75
@@MACMISIAS Very interesting, thank you :)
Death's voice of the soul is the song for you
oh noooo not Death D: scary name haha
Voice of the soul is a beautiful masterpiece.
@@kirawasareactor xD wouldn't suggest it if you couldn't handle it ;)
80's Scorpions is a must:
The Zoo, Blackout, No One Like You, Dynamite, Rock You Like a Hurricane (you know this one for sure), Big City Lights, Still Loving You, Wind of Change (maybe you know this one too)
Wind of Change was 1990
The correct reaction to Sails of Charon
Always Somewhere was my song remembering my wife while I was deployed in the Navy.
Scorpions are awesome, there are a lot of incredible songs for you to explore
Maybe I’m out of my mind, but that second song is giving me heavy Simple Man by Lynrd Skynrd vibes. Not a copy exactly, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if Ronnie Van Zandt started singing instead
To be honest they kind of stole Simple Man. Almost same riff, same chord progression.
Very similar
I thought the same.
You should listen to "wind of change" and "you and I" amazing pieces by Scorpions
Wind of change is amazing.
I would like to see how you like mercyful fate and king diamond.
💯 definitely have her start Melissa album
"THEM" !!!
Oh hey cool, a fellow Insaniquarium fan, it's rare to find those in the wild.
Just a quick shout out to say I love following along with you on this journey. Keep it up, there is sooooooo much great music ahead of you. Peace.
While technically 70s, the Lovedrive album is the first one after lead guitarist Uli John Roth left - it's the first to feature Matthias Jabbs with his more modern Metal sound on some tracks, and the very Michael Schenker on others ;)
Legendary band ! Definitely need to check out Blackout, their best album in my opinion and the title track is absolutely killer
thanks for that!
I SECOND that suggestion
Nice to see that you really react to my recommendation!. Greetings from México!
UFO is a British band (from England, Phil Mogg vocals, Pete Way bass, Andy Parker drums, Paul Raymond keyboards and Michael Schenker lead guitar, all at some point; there's been loads of other members at one point or another). You're getting quite rock/metal educated, lass, and it's an immense pleasure to kinda follow you on yer journey and at the same time relive all the bands from my youth. All hail to thee.
Early Scorpions are magical. Longing for Fire, We'll Burn The Sky and Catch Your Train I would recommend. Three of the most soaring melodic guitars solos you will ever hear. Uli is my all time favorite guitarist, hands down.
Boy this must be the remaster. It sounds incredible still. I was into the mid70s scorps when they really mattered
You HAVE to listen to We'll Burn the Sky, specifically the Tokyo Tapes live version with Uli Jon Roth, it's incredible.
Your reaction to the sails of Charon has me looking for my CD of Taken By Force. I got into 80s Scorpions first, then I went back and love the 70s Albums better! A couple of years back, Uli Jon Roth played a club in Tucson. The ticket was so low, I thought that can't be him. I regretted not going.
It's really refreshing to read someone say, "I got into 80s Scorpions first, then I went back and love the 70s Albums better!"
Kira , I just have to say it is great to someone get so much enjoyment out of music as you do it is very infectious.
"Always somewhere" has so much of "Simple Man" in it...
She needs some Skynyrd in her life (not Freebird).
I was listening this time and had never really noticed before, but I was thinking this sounds like Simple Man.
The Holiday intro is beautiful because is a Michael Schenker's gem! The master of melodic guitar, his acoustic playing is as good as his electric 🤘🤘Always somewhere is pure bliss, also here the guitars are a Michael Schenker's composition , he wrote and played on Lovedrive to help Scorpions to breakthrough the States. Sails of charon is one of Uli's finest works, all of his musical background is there, from his folks childhood roots to his Hendrix obsession plus his smooth playing 😅
Love Scorpions! Seen them live twice now! They're still rocking really hard!
A good way to see two sides of The Scorpions is through their live albums; early stuff - Tokyo Tapes (Uli Roth) and later stuff World Wide Live (Matthias Jabs). Two of the best live albums ever.
YOUR REACTION TO ALWAYS SOMEWHERE IS A MOOD XD Though im really sad you didnt check out Still loving you!! You *need* to!! That's the song that made me fall in love with his voice
Sails of Charon is tremendous and my favorite Scorpions track bar none. 1980s Scorpions still really speak to the teenager in me but Sails of Charon was long, heavy and thoroughly engaging the whole track.
One of the best live bands ever !!!! Have a great week Kira.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Agreed, 70's Scorpions are awsome! I recommend the song We'll burn the sky. In my view one of their best ever!
Yay! You found the Scorpions!
Uli Jon Roth is a classically trained guitarist.....he said he "took" some parts from Motzart for the sails of charon solo....you can hear it....amazing.
Holiday - Michael Schenker on the guitar.
Sails of Charon - Uli Jon Roth on guitar.
Always Somewhere - Matthias Jabs on guitar.
Rudolf Schenker plays rhythm on all 3 songs.
Uli Jon Roth wrote Sails of Charon. It has a flamenco/middle eastern vibe.
Lonesome crow and fly to the rainbow are 2 incredible early albums that rip
This is a great classic! Well done!
The whole "Taken by force" is superb album.. Their early albums are close to metal, later works are more hard rock ballads
You should do "Voice of the soul"
Two of my old Scorpions faves are Top of the Bill and Sun in my Hand, both with Uli. Also love China White and There's No One Like You.
UFO were British but had Michael Schenker on guitar. Incidentally Michael Schenker played guitar on some of the tracks on Lovedrive including the magnificent Coast to Coast.
If you’re moving back into the 80’s, check out Dokken. In particular the songs unchain the night, in my dreams, kiss of death and dream warriors.
Sails of Charon (pronounced Kay-Ron) Charon was the ferryman who ferried the souls of the dead across the River Styx to the Underworld in Greek mythology..
Love the 1970's Scorps. Liked Animal Magnetism, Blackout and Love at First Sting in the 80s, but the albums before that are the classics, especially Taken by Force and In Trance
When will we get the Deep Purple - Made In Japan full album reaction? 😁😁
COOOOOOOL. the sails of charon is one of my favorite songs, can't wait till you get to their 80s music
nice :D
Mikkey Dee, formerly of Motorhead, is the Scorpions' current drummer.
you should definitely try wishbone ash, and something not so popular from them (something off no smoke without fire would be a great example)
Awesome reaction, I knew you'd like Sails...,funny that the other two songs came off my favorite Scorp's album.the year it was released I was flying to the UK & the song " is there anybody there?" was on the in-flight playlist.loved its reggae vibe so I bought the album....its never been out of hands reach since.I have some punk recommendations,The Clash-Guns of Brixton(killer bass line),The Damned-New Rose(high energy),Sex Pistols-Submission,GBH-sick boy,Dead Kennedys-Holidays in Cambodia, all great tracks, thanks again for another great reaction
you'll love the song Still Loving You for sure!
Time to check out the other half now, UFO, any of there albums are fine but no heavy petting is a great one from the early seventies.
Love to love and Rock bottom from their live stuff are awesome.
Scorpions-can t get enough
ahhh, Ulli Jon Roth... the man who was Yngwie Malmsteen before Yngwie Malmsteen :D
damn really? I've heard so much about Yngwie I can't wait to do a video on him
He was also recommended to the scorpions by Michael schenker after he joined ufo
I mean, Blackmore was by far the biggest influence on Yngwie, but yes, Uli played an absolutely crucial role in the development of neoclassical metal!
Yep, YJM's band was called Rising Force. That happened to be the name of one of the paintings Monica did for one of Uli's solo albums. Uli was a huge influence for YJM. He covered Sails of Charon as well.
@@kirawasareactor For Yngwie, the first 4 albums are what you should stick to for reacting. I have them all, but I get ear fatigued on most of the latter ones. The first two are legendary!!
Oh my god Always somewhere ny most loved Ballad of them!
great reaction, have an old punk rock band from Germany Title 1 Die Toten Hosen / mehr davon - Hals und Beinbruch Live at Rock am Ring 2008 Title 2 Die Toten Hosen | Pushed Again (Live in Düsseldorf) Titel 3 Die Toten Hosen / Helden und Diebe (Live) [Official music video]
they currently have MIKKEY DEE as their drummer-who played w/MOTORHEAD for 20+ yrs
Sails of Charon is my favourite Scorpions song, mostly due to that amazing guitar intro
loved the reaction, tnx. my fav scorion song is No One Like You, and there really isnt
Listen to we'll burn the Sky live from Tokyo tapes. Awesome. Uli Jon Roth on guitar
The Scorpions career is some what like two parts. their early career was more trippy where later Scorpions starting after Lovedrive When Mattias Jabs joined became more mainstream hard rock and metal. If you want to hear Scorpions that hit hard check out Blackout\, The Zoo and there are many of their radio and MTV hits
What's funny is that a few days ago I was thinking "Wait, has Kira not heard the Scorpions yet? Holy shit we need to change that" and lo and behold...
When you return to the band, definitely check out Still Loving You, Send Me an Angel, Wind of Change, Rock You like a Hurricane and When the Smoke is Going Down.
And yeah, you'll find a solid amount of acoustic parts in Scorpions ballads, which they have a lot of. Some of their biggest hits are their ballads.
Also, any plans on returning to Rainbow? You've already heard the entirety of Rising, and they made two other albums while Dio was in the band that are definitely worth checking out. Those being the debut Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Long Live Rock and Roll.
Punk? Misfits, please, if you haven't listened to them already
Songs: last caress, dig up her bones, hybrid moments
You'd love the energy of the last one I'm sure :)
Punk? Mr. Barbeque - Guttermouth. You'll like the bass in it.
Last caress rocks everyone's socks off.
Some 70's hard rock/classic metal.
Molly Hatchet
(Bounty Hunter, The Creeper, Gator Country)
Blue Oyster Cult
(The Vigil, Dominance and Submission, Mistress of the Salmon Salt)
Ted Nugent
(Hammerdown, Stormtroopin, Death By Misadventure)
scorpions are awesome. Personally, I play bass, guitar, drums, sing, piano, keyboard, banjo, violin, I also write songs and poetry. You should try the band Tesla, they are my favorite 80s band. Next time you do your video, you have to dance out of your chair,, you go girl. Love your videos, you are one cool chick.
Confession time, I'm not familiar with much of the Scorpions' work. I only know three songs of theirs ("No One Like You", "Rock You Like a Hurricane", and "The Wind of Change"), and all of them are good. They're probably the Scorpions' most commercially successful songs. If you haven't listened to them before, I recommend checking them out. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" is the one most people know, but it's still a Rock classic. These three songs, however, are very different, but all very good.
Holiday: The "mellow to loud to mellow" song structure made me think of "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin, one of my favorite bands of all time.
Always Somewhere: The guitar riff in the beginning sound suspiciously like "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Other than that, beautiful song. One that people would wave a lighter to in a concert setting.
The Sails of Charon: I really dig the riff on this. The guitar solo is awesome, and I've always enjoyed Klaus Meine's voice.
To be honest, these three songs are probably a lot better than their hits from the 80s.
The Zoo, Blackout, Still Loving You, In Trance, Steamrock Fever - Please :-)
Blackout is the album I know. When I was a teen friend gave me it for my bday cause of the cover. When I played it I think he wanted it back lol.
The Uli Jon Roth period is the best, hands down. try more of his stuff with them
WHAT? no still loving you, huricane or blackout? ???? that is a crime and im sad now
yea look i've gotta pick and choose. i don't like doing it D: another Scorpions video with Still Loving You is coming in 2 weeks
She said she was starting with 70s songs though.
Those are literally some of there most popular songs, she will get to them I am sure. I like this deep dive into original scorpions.
Listening to the 70's scorpions will make you appreciate the 80's even more.
Scorpions are the undisputed kings of the power ballad. They didn't exactly invent the trope, but they sure perfected it. Anyway, interesting selections, because unless I'm mistaken, each figures an iconic guitarist from the Scorps on leads: Holiday [Michael Schenker], Always Somewhere [Matthias Jabs], and Sails Of Charon [Uli Jon Roth]. Personally: Uli is right up there with Blackmore. Even having heard 'Charon' countless times, just seeing you react to it so positively gave me the arm-hair chills - like listening for the first time!
For 'best of' Uli, I would recommend the full albums of; In Trance, and the live Tokyo Tapes [way too many great tracks to even list highlights - these albums are really that good.
Other great 70s bands Steve Miller Band, Ted Nugent, The Who, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and CCR Creedence Clearwater Revival
The best band I have ever seen live and I have seen at least 1000 +🤘🤘
nice one !!!
@@kirawasareactor gonna send you a photo of uli and I on your Instagram kira, he always remembers me at his shows as we talk a lot after them 😁
Strapping young lad - detox. Song changed my life
The Sails of Charon is a banger but as far as party songs go ‘Rock you like a hurricane ‘ from their 80’s album Love at first sting is a party starter, another great video.
"Love drive" was my favorite cassete among those I had in early 90-th. I also reccomend "ANOTHER PIECE OF MEAT", "Big City Nights" and "Coming Home". By the way, you are very beautiful ;)
Since you loved Always Somewhere so much I'd really really really suggest Is There Anybody There?, You Give Me All I Need, and Hey you. You'll absolutely love them.
Thanks for reacting to some of my favourite Scorpion tracks.
If you liked "Always Somewhere" then you'll *love* "When the Smoke is Going down" - another Scorpions classic IMO.
Amazing band that has been around since 1969,and still going in 2021.The guitar work in this is so moody and this is one of their best songs.
The mellow to rough transition in Holiday was always cool. I was reminded of it when hearing One by Metallica for the first time.
Michael Schenkner played on the Lovedrive album.
best scorpions songis 'black out' and love at first sting. real rockers
YOU REMIND ME OF MYSELF,WHEN I WAS.INTRODUCED TO THIS MUSIC AND JUST ROCKED ?AND PLAYED AIR GUITAR.U MUST LISTEN TO MORE MAIDEN,JOURNEY,DOKKEN,MAGNUM,GARY MOORE,WHITESNAKE,UFO,AC/DC,THIN LIZZY AND SUVIVOR👍👍🍺🍺
Scorpions, Blackout, Animal Magnetism and Dynamite.
The Scorpions with Uli are more progressive. '74-'78 are the best years. After that, they were more straight forward rock riffs and ballads.
It's more of a hard/prog rock band but I would wholeheartedly recommend checkin out Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson is one of the most energetic frontmen in rock and their live performances are amazing. He also does flute solos in the middle of those songs! Aqualung, Cross Eyed Mary and Locomotive Breath from their 1971 album Aqualung are probably their most famous pieces and have amazing live versions.
