    Happy Holidays to all!
The previous owner gave me all the receipts. Guess how much a shop charged to "fix" this mirror before I got it.

Great video Tom, the passenger mirror on my car will not move up or down, now I know where to look for the problem

Thx, hope it helps. Turns out I didn't need to remove the rocker switch after all. I must have read the connector wrong the first time. O well. I have extra mirrors if you need them.

Good work. Thanks for the tips. I’ll guess that they charged him $400 to fix that mirror.
    Happy holidays

Great point on that manual convertible top, my wallet agrees completely. This is a perfect example of once you find a good mechanic you follow them around. This is a wonderful example of 1989, hope with works out for you and you find no more gotcha's. Your content is always spot-on and greatly anticipated. Merry Xmas, glad to see 2022 leave us.

This is a really nice car. Still a few more things to fix, but enjoying it so far.
Sorry to hear about your top troubles.
This car was purchased from a mechanic, but not the one who did the botched wiring. Good mechanics are hard to find for sure.

I think all 3.2's of this year came with power mirrors, but it's too bad that it didn't come with manual mirrors along with the manual top.

I think you are right. These mirrors are heavy! And the top is very heavy too even without the electric mechanism.
This is why I prefer the earlier cars. Less luxury = more fun.

It's amazing how often these cars seem to have butchered wiring, particularly near the plugs. It's so unnecessary... Yet I spent many hours fixing my car, with the immobiliser being the worst (hacked through the bodywork to run wires.) Nice to see a professional fix! What type of crimp connectors did you use to join the wire ends?

I know it boggles my mind. I use Tyco open barrel crimps. If you look in the video description, you can get a link to see them. Or buy them!

The disconnected 2 pin connector might very well be for heated windscreen nozzles. Happy holidays, Tom!

What? Heated windscreen nozzles?? That's like speaking Greek to a Southern Californian, ha ha.
Thanks for the heads up though!

    Another great tutorial!
I do not ever recall seeing covers for the flag mirrors. Did you source those or did they come with he car?
    Merry Christmas Tom.

      Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Those covers came with the car. I think it looks better without, but they do protect the paint. They are embossed with the Porsche logo, but who knows where they came from.
I have the cert of authenticity and these definitely aren't on it.

Thanks for the tip on the open barrel connectors. Quick question - the amazon link has two different styles for 0.5-1.5 mm2 wire (i.e. one style effectively requires 4 crimps if connecting two wires), so when do use one over the other?

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto  Рік тому

I like those longer ones for connecting wires too. These are good for long looms that don't flex.
If you need flexibility to either install the loom or in this case an opening and closing door than maybe the shorter are better.
Always do a pull test no matter which you choose. Once the crimp settings are verified, you are good to go.

I took apart the mirrors to get them painted, but I can’t seem to get the actual mirror to sit in the housing now. They keep falling out when I hit a bump in the road. Not sure why.

I can't remember exactly how the glass attaches, but I seem to remember it twists to lock in

@@GarageTimeAutoResto I finally got it. I was able to push the locking mechanism from the top when I angled the mirror down and to the right. Boy that took so much longer than it needed to. The hole underneath at least for me was useless.
