My 10yr old daughter started to complain of a sore throat the other night. I couldn’t tell if it was allergies or a summer cold starting. Yesterday morning she woke up complaining her throat was still sore and her ears clogged up. I brewed her a pot of catnip, thyme, oregano, knob of ginger, and raw honey. After the first pot, “mommy my ear just popped open.” By the second pot of tea at 3pm, both ears drained and she was full of life again! Thank you for sharing your wisdom us!

2014, our cat Sophie passed away, before she died she was taking big chunks of catnip, eating it , I'm sure it was helping with pain. After, she passed within 1 month, that plant withered away and died, I took care of it the same as always, we thought it was sad and died without it's kitty, I had that plant for years. ❤😺

I love the synchronicity of this video. I am the permaculture writer for our local horticulture newsletter. My topic for the next issue is natural pest control and I call out the benefits of catnip for that use! Also, called out the benefits for humans as well!!!
I live with three Nip Heads and am setting out a bit of it for them now. You mentioned that they don't really like it as a plant but mine will eat it from the garden pot so I have to hang it up out of reach.
Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful week

I have a large crop of catmint and my other mints and herbs are also doing well. In fact, they're surviving much better than the rest of my garden. Our temperatures are still in the middle 90s F with humidity in the 80s F, so a lot of plants and people are wilting from that heat. I constantly have a glass of iced herb tea with me during these days and they're a wonderful and refreshing drink.

Here in the USA, in Northeast Connecticut, my self seeded catnip crossed with lemon balm, so now I have catnip that smells like lemons! I couldn't believe what I was seeing and smelling. Catnip is the best mosquito repellent. I made a tincture using Catnip, yarrow and witch hazel. We tested it on a camp out and it worked! Mosquitos were flying all around but none bit! You do have to reapply every 30 minutes.

Good morning Terri and Lol. I appreciate the comparison with Stinging Nettle and Catnip. (Catmint). I have never seen Catnip, so if we ever cross paths, I'll know enough to take a second look. I tried catnip tea, decades ago, one bag in a cup before bed, and I awoke in the night with a red face and sweating profusely. I swore I'd stay away from that tea but after this video, I might try it again. ... Your critters are sweet. I imagine your chickens earn their keep by 'just doing their thing' and looking so sweet. Have a great week, both of you. I'm looking forward to your next week's video. Blessings from Canada.💚

I was concerned about planing it and enticing all the neighbourhood cats - which would no doubt drive my baby crazy. So happy to learn that planting and growing from seed won't do that!!! We haven't had a lot of rain; but, it has been very hot during the day and cool at night. I have never grown any catnip that didn't draw cats who ate it and rolled on it until they killed it. I have even tried to grow it in hanging pots high up off the ground; however, cats found a way to get to it anyway. I have always grown it from seed. I have wondered if growing catnip may draw wild cats (bobcats, and cougars) out of the woods near my house? We know they are in the woods, because they are seen now and then.

Out of 17 cats over the years, only 2 didn't respond to catnip! Also, as an art project, I put dots of paint on canvas and placed in a gallon size freezer bag, 2 bags actually, put them on the floor, sprinkled with catnip, and as my cats rolled around in it, they produced wonderful abstract art for me! 🎉

I do enjoy my Catnip plant in the garden. My cats do prefer it dried to fresh. Mine has a very distinct smell reminiscent of a certain smoking herb. I usually let it bloom for the pollinators. Hoverflys, parasitic wasps, and all kinds of bees surround it constantly. It can also be used as an accelerator for a hot compost pile.

I am so glad I came across your video. I suffer from severe cramping, that lasts 5-7 days. Sometime I go through it twice a month. My body is always tired , my muscles are so tense I need something better than OTC medicines. My poor kidneys can't take much more. I have to flush them out with cranberry juice. For 30 years I have gone through this pain and sometimes I just feel like giving up. So thank you, I am going to try Catnip Tea.

Cats are funny..I've had some of them respond only when its dried and other cats went nuts for it when it was fresh and green but weren't as interested in the dry at all. Of course some of them went nuts either way lol. Its so easy to grow and much better than the store bought ...not only because it could have pesticides, but, I heard some companies were cutting it with marjoram. They do that to oregano for humans too. Great video! Thank you Terry!! Have a wonderful day!!❤

Thank you for the tip about the catnip seeds :) I have always had cats until recently. I didn't realise that the cats were attracted to the new seedlings and not so bothered about the fully grown plants. I always used to admire the catnip in the flower beds at my local park, but when I tried to grow it for myself, the cats were all over it and it only lasted about a week.

My cat doesn't have the regular cat reaction to catnip toys, he just tries to eat it or lick toys with it inside. I was surprised as my mum's cats act like they're on drugs! I'll have to try growing my own to see if he likes that. Thanks for another great video 😻🐈‍⬛❤🌱

Hi Terri, thank you very much for this video today. I've been keeping my eye out for advice on medicine for children as I have a little one. My boy is just a year old, so not very easy to give him medicine at this age. Do you have any more advice on that? It would be lovely to have more videos on various natural medicine for babies/children. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all xx

Thanks for the info! I live in the Appalachian Mountains of TN, so have always been used to seeing catnip. My mom would boil it for tea for my baby sister when she seemed to be “colicky” and cry a lot. Now that I’m learning more about herbs, I’m tincturing catnip, lemon balm, and holy basil to use as a calming blend. Hoping to plant some at our new home. Love your vids! ❤

Hello Terri, Love your videos which I am back studying again. Maybe I have some knowledge to share as catmint and catnip are different. I have some of each, at your inspiration
Please see “Better Homes & Gardens” explanation of the difference:
    Catmint vs. Catnip
Catmint and catnip both belong to the mint family in the genus Nepeta. They both have square stems that are typical features of mint plants, and they produce spikes of tiny, two-lipped flowers that are a valuable food source for pollinators. When touched, their aromatic leaves release a mint-like scent that some people find a little pungent and "skunky." Both plants are fast-growing and drought-tolerant. But if you're wondering if you should grow catmint vs. catnip, these plants differ on several critical features.
    What Is Catmint?
There are a few different types of catmint, but in general, the perennial plant has a tidier appearance than catnip, growing in slightly sprawling, compact mounds. Catmint's foliage is gray-green in color, and it has a lacy look. For many weeks throughout the summer, these perennials produce pretty spikes of flowers, blooming purple, white, or pink petals. Catmint is hardy, easy to grow, and deer-resistant.
Common varieties of catmint include Nepeta racemosa ‘Walker’s Low,’ which blooms lavender-blue flowers, Nepeta subsessilis ‘Sweet Dreams,' which sprouts pink petals with burgundy bracts, and Nepeta x faassenii 'Six Hills Giant,’ which also produces lavender-blue blooms but grows much taller than the other two types.
    What Is Catnip?
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a vigorous perennial plant with a somewhat weedy appearance. It has a rangy branching shape and forms 3-foot-tall drifts of gray-green foliage. Its leaves can be triangular or oval-shaped, and they have toothed edges that give the plant a jagged appearance. Small spikes of white flowers appear here and there between spring and fall, but the blooms aren't very showy.
In addition to Nepeta cataria, other varieties of catnip include Nepeta citriodora, which has a lemony fragrance, and Nepeta parnassica, which blooms light pink flowers.

I don't think that is relevant as it is referring to herbaceous borders. I am referring to Catnip, also known as Catmint, Nepata cataria. It is confusing when there are some grown just for the flowers and not for medicinal purposes x

I love catnip for attracting native bees. Also my chickens like it if I hand feed it to them, but leave the plant alone otherwise.
