I can't say how often I listened meanwhile..... Yet my thought go across the waters again and again.. towards my beloved friends -- from the '67 "VILLAGE" and the '72 "Junior" meeting / gathering.... towards there families - even though they might not be 'affected' upon first sight ?!
Great Performances. One of My All Time Favourite Songs. I remember when I first Heard this Classic on the Radio back in the 60's. Have a Wonderful Day~~

Ue o muite arukoo--------------------I look up when I walk Namida ga kobore nai yoo ni-----So the tears won't fall Omoidasu haru no hi----------------Remembering those happy spring days Hitoribotchi no yoru------------------But tonight I'm all alone
I`m downloading it in Yokohama to play at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok on Mar. 22, 2012, for Japan Ambassador Seiji Kochima, who`ll be speaking at the Rotary Club of Bangkok on "March 11 Earthquake / Tsunami and Japan's Soft Power". Thanks for sharing this!
"Ue o Muite Arukō" (pronounced phonetically [ɯe o mɯite aɾɯkoꜜː]) was written by lyricist Rokusuke Ei and composer Hachidai Nakamura. The lyrics tell the story of a man who looks up and whistles while he is walking so that his tears will not fall, with the verses describing his memories and feelings. Ei wrote the lyrics while walking home from participating in the 1960 Anpo protests against the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty, expressing his frustration and dejection at the failed efforts to stop the treaty. However, the lyrics were purposefully generic so that they might refer to any lost love
Very nicely produced video of one of my favorite songs, and at the same time a showcase of Japanese musical talent. It makes me want to listen to them all individually, which I will.
beutiful song..but most important the sound transmitting great feelings... even though if I couldn't understeand all the lyrics warm up my heart... always praying for Japan ♥ keep the faith ♥
I seem to like Sachiko Tomonaga the most, her voice is very deep, crisp, clean and hits me deep down to my soul, although I do enjoy everyone of them. This is why in the past years I've been listening languages I don't get.
Thank you tsudajin and John Doe. The instrument of 3:26 is "ヴィオリラ" (Violyre),made by Yamaha, and resembles the "大正琴" (Taisho-Goto). Hiromi Katsura which is playing Violyre is carrying out the original decoration to this instrument. Thank you very much for having this video seen.
Whenever I listen to a song in a language I don't quite understand and only knowing a few words it seems that every singer sounds Incredible to me. My comprehension does not interfere with an Amazing song that pleases my ears. I have a hard time finding a pleasing artistes in English or my native tongue Hmong.
Omoidasu aki no hi------------------Remembering those happy autumn days Hitoribotchi no yoru------------------But tonight I'm all alone Kanashimi wa hoshi no kage ni--Sadness hides in the shadow of the stars Kanashimi wa tsuki no kage ni---Sadness lurks in the shadow of the moon Ue o muite arukoo--------------------I look up when I walk
Namida ga kobore nai yoo ni-----So the tears won't fall Nakinagara aruku--------------------Though my heart is filled with sorrow Hitoribotchi no yoru------------------For tonight I'm all alone
