moving up this January. Renting for 6 months first. Gonna keep our eyes open for a nice home in the meantime. looking to buy a home is the goal. Jobs are lined up (thank God). Looking forward to working with you.
@@alaska_realtor Anchorage or Eagle River. By the way your all your videos are awesome very informative. I’m going up there blind never been to Alaska before. Going to be driving up there with a trailer. I know it’s kind of far out but my plan is to hopefully find a job and an apartment about 60 days out. Any thoughts about that
@@sargefry that’s exciting! Right now, it’ll be easier to find work than it was before. If you’re alright working an intro job to get your feet under you, then finding something else, you’ll have work from day one.
@@alaska_realtor I’m worried that an apartment place will say No because i don’t have a job. I do have income with out a job so hopefully that’ll work.
@@sargefry It’s possible, so you may have better luck finding a private landlord or have a contract with a place saying you’re going to be working here. If you don’t like it you can find something else after finding one. Just an idea.
Bro I like your videos but I will add my 2 cents. Saying Alaska can be misleading since different parts has different challenges 1. Lots of work in Healthcare. Always hiring 2. Cost? Seattle cost more. Things are just not convenient 3.. Bad winter? Not in southeast alaska. You just need to know what to wear 4. Yes that seasonal thing, yea it can be lonely if you here by yourself 5. Dipnetting? Not applicable everywhere. Want fish, ask your neighbor 6. Negative degrees? Not in southeast. It's 40 degrees right now. When shopping for winter stuff, fashion jackets won't do. You need the right brands 7. You need xtratuf shoes
For a lot of people it does. It's still about 38% above the national cost of living index, but when you compare that to most big city centers that's pretty manageable.
How about employment in mental healthcare? It's what my educational background is in and I'm considering moving to the Anchorage Alaska area in September 2023.
I'm not 100% sure, but I also know that mental health is in high demand up here due to the lack of sunlight, so you would like be able to find work easily enough.
You can find work. I recommend signing up with agencies. The contract is Usually 3 months. They sometimes provide housing and it will give you a chance to see what location might interest you.
My friends and I are thinking about moving up there in about 5-10 years maybe... Would you say it's better to wait to buy a home closer to when we'd be ready to move? Or look at a home and buy it before moving and start paying for it before we even move?
What’s something you wish you’d known before moving to Alaska?
how great it is, would have moved sooner!

I know that average income is a good bit above the national average in Alaska, so does that help even out the higher cost of living at all?

If you haven’t already can you do a video on the differences, pros, and cons of a conventional and and fha loan. Thanks.
Could you send me the relocation guide, please, moving from Houston TX

What is dipnetting?
You put a large net into the river to catch salmon as they swim upstream.
Who has the best phone carrier for Alaska...?

I remember my first winter in Helena, MT it got down to -60. That's Jedi level cold when your eyes freeze open. hehe
