That's because it is a travel. By NFHS rules, which are the accepted high school rules in the US, this spin move is a travel. Players in the NBA are not penalized, but at every other level, this is a travel. The only caveat is that if you continue your dribble through the spin move, it is not a travel. If you pick your dribble up during the spin, you have committed a traveling violation.
@@davevanwormer7589 NBA judges rule a dribble "dead" only on 3 occasions: you put your other hand on the ball, palmed the ball, put your hand under the ball. Since most of the time during spin move your hand rests on the side of the ball, the dribble is live.
The target audience for this video is not for NBA players. It would be helpful for the audience to know you are teaching an NBA move and not an NCAA nor a high school move.
Coach, if u dont mind please do rudy gay series, as we all know he's good from off the dribble triple threat and creating space for jumpers. I really appreciate it if u do it because Rudy himself is battling with ruptured left achilles tendon. Prayers sent out there for his surgery on Monday. Thank you coach
It's very important to have strong legs and chest and triceps...since he's a kid...jogging a lot and shooting from mid range about 50 shots a day should be helpful to increase range slowly....if he can....doing push-ups and squats would be really good....and working on the form is also really important...all the best
Look up harden step or drop cross. Very effective for driving. Also for a combo try a spin move and then a snatch back through the legs or behind the back. If the defender is still on you, next time do a double cross and then drive, either through the legs, or do a jamal crawford double behind the back. The jamal crawford by itself is very effective too
Hey coach you need to do a hop step and euro step move video!! Maybe include what makes either of those moves illegal ( when it is a travel, carry etc.,) thanks coach!
Been wanting to figure out how to do the spin move properly. I didn’t know to pound the ball beforehand. Hopefully that will help. Wish me luck! Thanks!
Felix Pitts he just got a good mid range in the last two years . His shot form is bad but he has perfected his two motion shot to at least a midrange . There's no magic formula put in the work with good mechanics
Sorry, I must say the move from 4:01 is a travel because the ball is gathered (independent of whether you hold the ball by one or two hands) as you spin and the left foot is established as the pivot. Clearly, your left foot was lifted and returned to the floor before shooting.
Thank you for this advices, I wish I was told at my classes. What is the reason to prefer this move to others? I do it when the opponent is covering one side to go to the other.
Thank you so much for making me a better player every time i want to learn something i look at one of your videos thank you what i learned from you and what im gonna learn from you
I was just about to say I love to pull a step back out of my spins, and right as that came to mind he did it in the video🤣 it's a deadly combo if you can hit your shots, even better if you pull off the fade away.
KI's spin move shown in 0:33 is a travel. He gathered the ball with the right foot as the pivot before he step down his left foot and spin, and then he lifted up his right foot and land it again. It is definitely travel.
Could you make a video on helping keep one shooting form??? I have trouble with keeping one shooting form yet I'm a good shooter. My shot changes almost every time I play. It would really help. Your videos helped me take my team to regionals and I thank you for making all of these helpful videos!
Shot mechanics do you think it would be possible to include defenders in your demonstrations because a lot of the time you start with the ball at the arc then just dribble straight to the hoop like the defense would just let you get right to the hoop. Perhaps you can get away with this at a younger age, but the older you get the better the defense gets, both as individuals and as a team - as I'm sure you know. I think showing where defenders would be would help make the moves seem more realistic for games and also show some of the timing for the moves.
IDK if offense is kinda the only sorta videos you make but if it isn't I'd love to see a video of how guards can deal with screens resulting in mismatches.......BTW love your videos they're insanely helpful
The spinmove is fine as a blowby crossover type thing, but I feel it's underutilized as a post move for power forwards. I always go to the right... but... only because nobody can ever stop me from doing so, and my spinmove is the reason why. I'm right handed and what I do is start anywhere on the court, catch the ball back to the basket. Do Olajuwon style face up, get some space and start driblling. Jab step the left foot as if you are going to go left and throw the dribble between your legs. If the D doesn't bite, you got a clear path to the left... but... that never happens. Your opponent WILL close the distance. Then, follow up the closeout by essentially doing a forward facing post move. Put your right foot as far across your defender's body as possible, and start the spin-move (don't forget to dribble). Any contact you can make at this juncture will make your spinmove faster and more effective... but it's not really needed. Before you know it, you are in the lane with your defender trying to catch up through contact. Even if he can get in the way of the layup... have a baby hook ready and there's no stopping you. If you are 3-5 feet away from the basket and your defender cuts off the layup and manages to defend the baby-hook, the 3rd option is completely unfair... up and under for the right handed reverse layup. All you need down low are 3 finishing moves. Right handed layup, baby-hook, up-and-under right handed reverse layup. IMPOSSIBLE. TO. GUARD.
I have a question about the way you rotate your "non-moving" foot in a spin. As the inside floor is much more smoother than the outside concrete where i play, you can rotate both on your heels and on your fingers, so what is better on the outside courts?
Thanks for this. Everytime ive tried it in the past and pivot its like im twisting/tweaking my pivot knee. Should i pivot on the toe or heel? I know my foot is planted too much and is causing the knee pain
When is a dribble considered to be stopped at non-NBA levels of competition? Is it when the ball leaves your hand, when the ball first touches your hand after the bounce or when your second hand touches the ball (or your first hand goes under the ball etc) after the bounce? Is whichever foot is on the ground when the dribble stops automatically the pivot foot?
This move is so underrated. It works so well
Jigolopuff not really kyrie uses it all the time...a lot of players use it
Leo_Cerberus In the nba yeah alot of players use it but at the park no one likes to use the spin move
Jigolopuff cuz of that dirty ass ground lol
Leo_Cerberus You dont touch the ground tho lol its like any other crossover you just spin
Jigolopuff except in 2k. I spam it lol
I can't get the footwork for the spin move right, I feel like I'm traveling or carrying every time
That's because it is a travel. By NFHS rules, which are the accepted high school rules in the US, this spin move is a travel. Players in the NBA are not penalized, but at every other level, this is a travel. The only caveat is that if you continue your dribble through the spin move, it is not a travel. that's because he didn't teach foot work which is 50% of the move bein effective

Oh god i love this so much! I heard that a spin move is a fundamental, esp when defender is close to you. Loving this moves mastery series!
This is a complete set of nba basketball drills to get better at b-ball. You have won a oscar.

I like how you have drills for practicing it. A nice touch for teaching and learning. Keep it up, coach!
❤
Love the spin move going to the basket. It keeps your defense guessing which moves you're gonna do next.
For me, this is one of the best videos for learning spin move. I saw many videos, yours is the simplest and best

Thanks coach.. this is really gonna help me cause my spin moves are still at regular level🤲😌
Coach C is the best. Btw can you do Brandon Jennings shooting secrets please:)
This is an amazing coach
As a nba beginner from South Sudan, I need to learns a lot of footwork from you
So keep it up🤙
can you do a video of more advanced basketball moves and combo moves?
Marven Michel Just make your own or watch the nba and look at some of their combos
Jigolopuff I have some of my own, I just want see what some of his favorites are or the most deadly ones
Marven Michel Try Cross, Between, behind, spin, step back. It's my favorite move
Look up harden step or drop cross. Very effective for driving. Also for a combo try a spin move and then a snatch back through the legs or behind the back. Can you do a Demar Derozan Shooting Secrets. I would like to know why his midrange is so good but his 3-pt shooting is not?
Felix Pitts look at his hitch, it limits his range, he also shoots on the way down instead of at the peak of his jump
Jim Shelast but why is his mid range so good?
Felix Pitts he just got a good mid range in the last two years . His shot form is bad but he has perfected his two motion shot to at least a midrange . There's no magic formula put in the work with good mechanics
Anthony Waldo he's probably isn't using his legs to shoot as much as his upper body
Just shoot midrange
Coach C. can you make a video of how to do Stephen Curry Moves like seperation moves like him? if you haved i apologize.

At 4:03 you clearly see him spinning on his pivot-lifting it and putting it back down-so yeah it definitely is a travel

The ball can't touch your body while spinning, else it's a double dribble. Don't know if you did that, but just sayin'.
