Another great folk rock singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul. He had a lot of great hits in his short career. "Photographs & Memories", "Time In A Bottle", "Operator", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", "I Got A Name", "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues," "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song", "Roller Derby Queen" etc.
Jim Croce died in an airplane crash in 1973 at age 30. Who knows what other gems he could have given us had he lived longer? Many of his songs, the ones that weren't love songs at least, were inspired by people he really knew. This was one of those big hits for Jim. I still remember where I was when I heard the news he had died. Such a tragic loss.
In the early seventies I was living in New Orleans with my boyfriend, we went to a concert with Don McLean of American Pie fame, the opening act was Jim Croce right away we felt he was special and would go far, unfortunately he was killed in a plane crash not long after that.
Straight off the screen of The Midnight Special. We actually had to wait until midnight for it to come on and they had big names of the day singing the best music ever
When I was little I had asthma really bad. On bad nights my big brother would slip into my room. He would sit on the floor by my bed and sing to me. A lot of the song were by Jim Croce. I don't have my brother anymore. But he left me with a lot of great memories. Loved your reaction. If you liked this one, you'll like Don't mess around with Jim.
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone... Sounds like the jealous husband got the better of old Leroy... Great reaction Greg...really enjoy your channel...👍😉...🌿🌿🌿
Back in the day music was storytelling, and a sign of the times we were living. One thing brought to mind, it was a time when kids born during the 50s were rebellious and one thing was men stop cutting hair and grew mustache and women stopped being controlled on decisions. Just a thought whenever you view 70s great music 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎶
When this song first came out my little brother thought he said fat, fat Leroy Brown, fattest man in the whole damn town, being a chubby little boy he thought it was hysterical, so this became his song, he collected a dollar and went and bought the record! Ha!Ha!Ha! Thank you for bringing back these memories to me! Great reaction!
Phenomenal singer/song writer left a great catalog of songs. Don’t mess around with Jim. My favorite is a ballad ‘Time in a Bottle’. Although you might like Rapid Roy the Stockcar Boy. And there’s one about a Roller Derby Queen.
Storytelling songwriters….different every time….great isn’t it? RIP Jim Croce….gone too soon. My dad bought this album ( great album)when I was young….knew all the words…❤️🎼❤️
This is an epic, legendary song..pretty much everyone knew it back then. As a kid back then, we loved this song, learned all the words and screamed out the chorus together...'Bad, bad Leroy Brown...!!' So fun.
Great example of the art of language and storytelling in folk music. This is one of the first songs I remember singing the refrain in the school yard when I was a kid.
I am a Jim Croce fan, he died way too young in an airplane crash. Don’t Mess Around With Jim, Time in a Bottle, Operator and so many more good ones. I might request one every once in a while, hope you won’t mind. You made this one fun, thanks Greg.
We lost Jim too soon. He was in his 20;s when he died in a plane crash. He has some great songs Time in a Bottle is my personal favorite. A great talent.
loved Jim Croce! I remember singing this with my friends on the playground and we got to sing a bad word and the parents couldn't scold us for it cuz they liked it too lol. I was heartbroken when he was killed in a plane crash. his son aj also sings. for such a short career he had a lot of good music: operator, time in a bottle, photographs and memories, roller derby queen, I got a name, one less set of foot steps, dont mess around with Jim, car wash blues...and more! Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple pieces gone after that woman's husband kicked his ass lol!
Greg...someone you might enjoy... 💥...Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band...Night Moves...a particular favorite of mine... You may find some smooth tunes that all the ladies loved... Best of luck...🌿🌿🌿
Jim Croce only became a national hit because of Desi Arnez Jr, lol. They were making a crappy tv movie about desi and his dying girlfriend. They needed some background music so they went to the local record store and grabbed a handful of obscure albums. They included his song "Time in a Bottle". They song was an instant hit, people calling the tv stations to find out what the song. His career took off.
Dan Fogelberg, Gordon Lightfoot, Michael Murphy Martin, John Cougar Mellencamp, Josh Groban, John Denver....so many great story tellers/song writers...
"Operator" is a really great one of his, check it out. I was 16 when he died in a plane crash in 1974 and I was shocked and crushed. He was only 30 years old and was a very talented songwriter and singer. He was special at telling stories with his lyrics. The only other time I was hurt more with a death of a famous musician was on the night of December 8th, 1980 when a crazy fan shot ex-Beatle John Lennon in the back 4 times while he and his wife were entering their home in NYC. Trust me, the whole world came to a stop for about 2 weeks after that one. What a total loss for us all with that one. ☮️✌️💕👌
I grew up listening to him. He was definitely a favorite in my family. I love your reactions of Home Free, so I thought I would check this out too. Just love it!
Greg's lovin it but he's gonna find out that Leroy wasn't the meanest junk-yard-dog in town! I've been singing this song for the last 40 - 50 years! :^D
Jim Croce (pronounced crow-chee) is a favorite of mine, after watching a few of your reactions, you'd love "Rapid Roy (The Stock Car boy)", "You don't mess around with Jim" & "Roller Derby Queen"
There's SO much more to this song. You got the short version. Go check out the full version. There's a dude wanted to win his money back. Really, check out the full version. Your reactions are super funny! Thanks for this unique music platform.
Croce was around at the time of Woodstock and the Viet Nam conflict ... You probably heard his music on radio but never knew the name , most likely ... Story tellers been here a long time .!
They cut out the end of the last verse. I guess you couldn't say that on live TV back in the day but you could put it on a record. "He was shot in a couple of places, and he was cut in a dozen more, And you better believe they sang a different kind of story when the big man hit the floor."
If I remember correctly, Jim Croce actually met a man named Leroy Brown while in the U.S. Army. He was such a tough dude, and made an impression on Croce.
Ol' Leroy Brown wasn't as bad as he thought he was 😂 he has an extensive collection of songs here's another, if interested "Jim Croce - Operator (That's Not the Way it Feels) Have You Heard: Jim Croce Live" Here's another band from the 70's "Shambala - (1975) Three Dog Night" this band has a lot of wonderful songs. Nice reaction 👍
This song reminds me of my middle school music teacher who sang and played Leroy Brown for us. He introduced us to the classics. I imagine that there’s lots of Leroy Browns in the world. Some of them get their comeuppance and some don’t.
Helpful hint... last name pronounced Crow-chee. He is uniquely talented. You gotta hear Time in a Bottle, and you would probably get a laugh from Speed Ball Tucker and Don't Mess Around with Jim. They are funny. Time in a Bottle is a beautiful song.
Jim is the best storyteller with a guitar. The moral of the story there is always someone more badass than you think.

Those are some good recommendations for more Croce songs. He was a good one.
You Don't Mess around with Jim is another great song by Jim Croce ✌
Please listen to You Don't Mess Around With Jim by the same artist. He's phenomenal. 🔥🔥
Jim Croce died in an airplane crash in 1973 at age 30. Who knows what other gems he could have given us had he lived longer? The young man plying guitar on stage with Jim died in that plane crash as well.
He was actually thinking of quitting music. He missed his wife and son, he was just tired!
I was 16 when he died 50 years ago. He was one of my heroes growing up. He still is. Greg, you pronounced his name correctly.
One of the best things about UA-cam is discovering past talent. Learning, growing and appreciating.☺️
My dad would play all of his songs on the guitar! Jim Corce always makes me think of my dad. R.I.P to both!
Your dad had great taste. Wish I had a dad as cool as yours. RIP
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone...
Sounds like the jealous husband got the better of old Leroy...
Great reaction Greg...really enjoy your channel...👍😉...🌿🌿🌿
I grew up being taught that no man lets another man disrespect his wife. Ole Leroy found it out the hard way.
Back in the day music was storytelling, and a sign of the times we were living.

In '81 joined the Navy an was stationed on USS Jessie L Brown that was our song. Bad Bad Leroy Brown.
My younger brother used too sing this at the top of his lungs at age 6--loved screaming d**n town!
Storytelling songwriters….different every time….great isn’t it? RIP Jim Croce….gone too soon.
My dad bought this album ( great album)when I was young….knew all the words…❤️🎼❤️
One of the best singer/songwriters ever. In my personal top ten. Great reaction.
I loved your reaction to this song. It is such a fun song. Love, love, love Jim Croce, so sad he was taken so young.
Soar with the angels Jim!!💙❣️🫶🏾🛸🛸🛸👽👽👽💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏We love you!!!
Now that looked like just about most fun I've ever seen anybody have reacting to a song.
Every single reactor to this song spends the first 3/4s of it marveling about how tough LeRoy is . . . 😊
There's always someone badder than you are... make that man your friend. 😆
I am a Jim Croce fan, he died way too young in an airplane crash. Don’t Mess Around With Jim, Time in a Bottle, Operator and so many more good ones. I might request one every once in a while, hope you won’t mind. You made this one fun, thanks Greg.
You Don't Mess Around With Jim
I'm a girl raised as a Tom boy and my daddy always said theirs always somebody just a little bit better than you, love it
We lost Jim too soon. He was in his 20;s when he died in a plane crash. He has some great songs Time in a Bottle is my personal favorite. A great talent.
I loved his music. It was so sad when he died. He was just getting started.
If you don't mind feeling a little sad and reminiscent, his song "Time in a bottle" is absolutely beautiful
There is always someone who comes along who is tougher and meaner...
loved Jim Croce! I remember singing this with my friends on the playground and we got to sing a bad word and the parents couldn't scold us for it cuz they liked it too lol. A running theme in his songs about "tough guys" is that no matter how tough you think you are, there is always someone tougher.
Great reaction, Greg! I couldn't wait til you heard the end of the song. 😂😂🧩🧩
Great life lesson for kids. There is always somebody tougher than you.
Greg...someone you might enjoy...
💥...Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band...Night Moves...a particular favorite of mine...
You may find some smooth tunes that all the ladies loved...
Best of luck...🌿🌿🌿
One of the few great story tellers in song. Another unsung hero
I loved when this song came on my dads radio
CROCIE is a classic great songwriter who died in his prime glad to see you checking him out enjoy
That’s a tale that says even the biggest and baddest man will meet his match eventually.
You're a riot!!! 🤣 I just subscribed!! 👍👏👏
"Lee Roy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple pieces gone".
one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time. you should listen to his song called operator.
Jim is classic for sure.
Croce was amazing, so many awesome songs, lost way to soon in this life.
Dan Fogelberg, Gordon Lightfoot, Michael Murphy Martin, John Cougar Mellencamp, Josh Groban, John Denver....so many great story tellers/song writers...
Before this song, there was Jim Croce's "Don't mess around with Jim". It is a similar song, you will like it.
RIP we lost him way to soon
I love that you are reacting to some of these artists from my youth. We had some pretty good music back in the day.
I made friends with a girl in 6th grade because she could play this on the piano. So cool!
Mr Greg, I just found you. Love that you are enjoying the music I grew up on.
🩵🩵🩵 Jim Croce: the moral of the story is, there’s always somebody bigger and badder than you, React to: don’t mess around with Jim, by Jim Croce

Jim Croce was my grandmother's cousin so I grew up with a lot of stories about him, and apparently this song was based to real people in Philadelphia.
I grew up listening to him. He was definitely a favorite in my family. I love your reactions of Home Free, so I thought I would check this out too. Just love it!
I love your channel! Croce has lots of hits! Operator is a great one!💜💜💜
I have had this song as my go to for singing karaoke or playing guitar at a party. Always a hit, always packs the dance floor.
I was very young when this song was popular but old enough to know I could get away with a cuss word if I was singing along to this song 😂
Greg's lovin it but he's gonna find out that Leroy wasn't the meanest junk-yard-dog in town! I've been singing this song for the last 40 - 50 years! :^D
Jim Croce was fun!!
Jim Croce (pronounced crow-chee) is a favorite of mine, after watching a few of your reactions, you'd love "Rapid Roy (The Stock Car boy)", "You don't mess around with Jim" & "Roller Derby Queen"
this is what music sounded like before the turntable became a musical instrument.
I love these folk song story telling tunes! I had so much fun watching you reacting to this! LOL Thanks!
try this one by Jim Croce "You Don't Mess Around With Jim",
It's a great folk Rock song.
They need to make a movie about him.
There's SO much more to this song. You got the short version. Go check out the full version. There's a dude wanted to win his money back. Really, check out the full version. Your reactions are super funny! Thanks for this unique music platform.

You got to check out "You Don't Mess Around With Jim," next!
Awesome !!
You make me laugh out loud.
Another similar Jim Croce song is "You Don't Mess Around With Jim".
Such a great song! I miss him :( Great singer and song writer.
Great song
As you like doing Queen reactions, maybe try Bring Back That Leroy Brown, it was written by Freddie Mercury as a tribute to Jim Croce
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Leroy Brown learned his lesson from the wife of a jealous man.😂😂😂
What don't Leroy have on him? ...Doris. 😆
The 70s music was incomparable.
This song reminds me of my middle school music teacher who sang and played Leroy Brown for us. He introduced us to the classics. I imagine that there’s lots of Leroy Browns in the world. Some of them get their comeuppance and some don’t.
I had a cool music teacher in second grade. This was one of the songs she taught us.
You need to listen to Time in a bottle. Great song 🎵 rip Jim.✌🎵🎶❤
Try TIME IN A BOTTLE I think you may like it . Also try John Prine a little different he tell it like it is !
Another song of him is You Don’t Mess with Jim
Dont mess around with Jim
Loved your reaction lol...
Croce did a few songs were the big, bad, tough guy gets what's coming to him -- try out "You Don't Mess Around with Jim".
I love how ol dirty bastard dropped this line in his song “snakes”
You should really check out Jim Croce "Don't Mess Around with Jim". It's one of my favorites! I love your channel!
Try " Don"t Mess Around With Jim, Rapid Roy the Stock Car Boy, or my favorite Roller Derby Queen.
I strive to be bad like Leroy!
You have missed a lot not hearing Jim Croce. He was phenomenal.
I recommend listening to his greatest hits album. Then you’ll get a good sample of all of the different styles that Jim could pull off.
