My son used to sing this song when he was 3 years old. He's 47 now. Great memories, Great Band.
This was back when bands actually played music.. and made us smile
💯💯
This is a true story. I read an interview with Ronnie Van Zant (lead singer), and he later said that if this guy shot him, he’d have to shoot him in the ass or elbows, because he was getting the hell outta Dodge. I have my picture in front of The Jug, which was called Westside Tavern back the day. It’s in Jacksonville, FL. 😂
Yep...I'm an old Jax girl...it was probably my husband with the gun..lol..he was always bar bound meeting with his side pieces...
👍😉...🌿🌿🌿
Old local St. aug here. That wasn't the Jug (Lil Brown Jug) out at the river was it? Drank there a couple times waaay back!
Pass the jug almost everyday lol only takes three steps to get out that mfer lol
💯
And let’s face it, Jax is basically Gotham without Batman…. Always has been
“I said excuse me “ never a truer statement ever said. Ha ! Love this song.
My generation recognizes “I said excuuuuuuuse me”😃
This song written by Ronnie Van Zant is even cooler when you know it was a true story. These guys grew up In Jacksonville FL. Ronnie was known as the neighborhood brawler. He would throw down with anyone. But he had to be smooth one night as this wasn’t going to be a fight. Moral is, you gotta know when to fold ‘em and get the hell outta there. And even the toughest of guys have a story like this. Most won’t have the guts to tell that story. But Ronnie did.
Got their name from one of their High School shop teachers. Mr. Leonard Skinner. Truth.
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Saturday Night Special" etc.
Couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve played this song in 45 years of playing in bar bands in Atlanta! Still packs a dance floor in honky tonks, rock clubs and biker bare. Pretty sure I could play it in my sleep!
Wow, that is a LONG time playing in bar bands!. About 20 years ago I played guitar in a bar band/cover band, but we never got to book a gig. Pretty much right when we had our 50 or so songs down, and were ready to look for places to play, the bass player quit and the singer moved. 😕I was a huge drinker at the time, and cover bands usually have to play for like 4 hours more or less, with a few breaks here and there. Honestly, as much as I drank (the whole band drank a lot actually) I'm not even sure I wouldn't be too drunk to play by the end of the night. 🥴😞
Was the band your actual job, or was it a weekend thing? Even if yall played once a week for 45 years, and assuming yall played this song every gig, that's around 2400 times. 😳
I’m a die hard Skynyrd fan from Minnesota and 5 years ago I made the pilgrimage to Jacksonville and visited “The Jug” Which is the bar that this song took place at. I visited the Van Zant house they grew up in and it was such an amazing experience.
I took care of their Dad when he got very old and was in the hospital. The family is so close and just the nicest people.
Listen Greg! I just like you so much. I'm a 58 year old lady and you always bring me joy. Thanks 👍🙂
Such an excellent band, lyrics, jamming, storytelling, the whole package 🎵🎸🎶✌
Water on the floor, he peed his pants he was so scared 😅
THERE ISNT A BAD SKYNARD SONG!!!!😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
They did say back in the 70s that they wrote music based on real life experiences. Curtis Lowe was a real person but they changed the name.
Yeah, when the water hit the floor.....he pissed himself.
This is a based off a true experience with one of the band members.
I had that happen to me 😅
Was it Artimes Pyle?
@@jennybrown8184 - It was Ronnie.
Great story teller!
He said water hit the floor!!!! He pissed his pants!!!!!😂😂😂😂
@@Nurse66 no she dropped a glass of water on the floor for a distraction. She knew her husband.
In one version of this song Ronnie says " I'm going to get the hell out of Dodge".
I grew up with Lynyrd Skynyrd. I’ve been in that bar many times, and knew this was a true story turned out. I knew the guy with the gun, and he was always a jealous man.
Your comment "Hey, this isn't supposed to be going on and your asking for favors?"..I had to laugh at that. So true and a perfect analogy of the situation at hand...keep up the commentary with the reactions because you are good, you get it...and not so bad on the eyes either....
Great reaction! I loved that you got the comedic parts. I love this song.
I truly believe I taught my children some great music.. Skynyrd is up there at the top of the list.. when my youngest, 24, knows this music.. I did something right.
My favorite ever!! I lived in St Augustine FL for many years & there is this little hole in the wall dive biker bar that I braved a time or 2. The live band looked like zz top & I always requested this & they killed it! 🤣🤣🥰🥰
My late husband took me to Skynyrd concerts all over the country. He was more of a bluegrass guy but he would sure start boot-scooting when this came on. Such good memories ❤
I laughed so hard the first time i heard this song. My cheeks and stomach muscles hurt for 2 days, and what makes this so funny is i was only 9 years old. Yes, even then, i completely understood the words. Thought it was the funniest thing i had ever heard😂
You should listen to Curtis Lowe by Lynard Skynard . One of their best
Thi songg was writtten by Ronnie Van Zant of Lynrd Skynrd. It reflects an encounter he had in a Florida Bar one night.
All the things Ronnie Van Zant talks about in his music were things that happened to him and others in the band... That Smell is about Gary Rossington, Double Trouble is about Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zandt when they were sitting in jail and Gary asked Ronnie how many times have you been to jail and Ronnie said about 10 or 11 times and Gary replied man Ronnie you Ain't nothing but Dounle Trouble and this song Gimmie Three Steps took place at a bar on the westside of Jacksonville Florida by I-10 and Stockton st right behind where Gateway is Gateway before it was a rehab was a motel and the Brown Jug (bar) sat right behind there....
Fun song. Fun reaction. 😊❤️😊
Southern Rock Baby!!!!!🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Miss southern rock
One of my favorites of theirs. Great reaction.
Oh, they have a huge catalog of great music. Songs like. I know a Little, Simple Man, Saturday Night Special, Sweet Home Alabama, Mr Banker , Call me the Breeze, and of course Free Bird Sooooooo many more
Hey man, I somehow just stumbled across your reaction Channel just now, because of this Lynyrd Skynyrd song which I'm a big fan but then again I love all kinds of music and I'm a musician by the way I played in bands my whole life and I've covered some of this stuff and I understand it. But I really loved your reaction man. It's real and it's humorous and I don't know just good man. I'm so glad by the end that you pointed out that I really don't think Ronnie Van Zant's character in this was necessarily bad. He really was at a bar and some lady started hitting on him and he said he was cutting a rug so what that means obviously is that they just started dancing together to songs on the jukebox and before very long at all nothing happened but that and she was the one coming on to him, and then the jealous husband or boyfriend or whatever shows up and immediately he's one of those dudes that pulls his gun right away and watched it just you know do that thing. So it's such a funny story but Ronnie is really good at telling those stories and as you said, he Nails it every step of the way. No reaction man and I will be checking out more for sure, I just subscribed.
I love how you enjoy this!!!!!!!! Made me laugh so much!
I saw these guys 6 times in Denver in the 1970s and still love them!
The Ballad Of Curtis Loew
This the first Skynyrd song I ever heard, and it hooked me for life. The funny bit about the whole song is that Ronnie Van Zandt (vocals -- far left on top row) never walked away from a fight in his life. But this is pure southern rock: screaming guitars (Ed King was one of three in the band, he solos on this one; he's far right, second row; also Van Zandt's principal collaborator on the songwriting), hard drum line, earthy vocals and a lot of humor. The Charlie Daniels Band had a song in this same vein called "Uneasy Rider." Give it a listen too :D
It was the 70's. That's how it was. Been there
“Cutting A Rug” means dancing.
Excellent choice😃
I heard the real story about this one. So Ronnie & Gary were at this bar drinkin' and the girl asked Ronnie to dance . Gary said him & Ronnie never dance and the chick basically dragged Ronnie on the floor ,so he went with it . They didn't know it ,but she had been fighting w/ her BF who had just got out of jail or something & was tryin to make the guy jealous. The dude did come in and really pulled a snubnose .44 magnum on Ronnie and was going to really shoot him ! According to Gary ,Ronnie said this . He said dude , you can try to shoot me , but you gonna be shootin at ass 's & elbows and they bolted out quick ! Gary said that we all know Ronnie was a tough scrapper , but this dude was huge !!!
You can just see it happening the way he describes it!
Any thing from this band is 🔥💯 keep on Rocking my Friend love ur reactions 💖💯✌️🤪😜😉😁🤩
Sort of true story: It was a knife not a gun though. He was the ladies man of the group. The man was jealous of his girlfriend. Whom the lead singer was dancing with. Lead singer came running out of the bar.Jumped in the car & said to go! /// He's begging for a chance to leave. /// "Simple Man" is a must listen.
When that water hit the floor ,that's when he passed himself..
The live version from One from the Road has a spoken ad lib by Ronnie in the first verse where he says "I ain't gonna fight him over his c**t". Yup, the 'C' word.
He didn't ask for 3 steps in the actual incident he told the guy he was going to take 3 steps towards the door.
Every time I hear this song it reminds me of a story Pop told me once about him hooking up with a married woman who's husband was extremely jealous. Tracked them down to the no tell motel they spent the night. He kicked in the front door while Pop was hoping out the bathroom window. 🤣
I love this song! It does get old if you play it too much. I'm pretty sure you missed the line "and my water fell on the floor" though. Try it again! 🤣🤣
He had nothing to lose by asking the dude for a favor, did he?
One of the best bands ever!
Got to love them southern boys!🎸🎸🎸
Great rockin' song. Love your take on it.
One of their best.
3 steps is a old school version of,I'm gone

Me & my girlfriend went to that bar last summer In Jacksonville Florida it’s called THE JUG you should go check it out nothing fancy but a part of music history thanks for the reaction we enjoyed it
You are awesome! God bless you & your beloveds!
An important fact with LS, read song facts. Ronnie wrote of real life events. This really happened to him!
Got my horse to dance with this song. He really wanted the cookies I had in my pocket.
Play some Skynyrd, man! Lol ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Recommend next, "Freebird" Live 7-2-1977, and "The Balad of Curtis Loew" ;-) TY!
I like you because you find the humor in the stories from my youth. I saw my yes Signed 6 ti.rain Denver
Similar theme in "One Way Out" :)
.....(live version is best) by the Allman Brothers
This time, a guy's stuck on the second floor with a woman
...when her man comes home :)
This is my favorite song by them
❤️
CALL ME THE BREEZE
You are a great reactor!! Love to watch your reviews.
😎👍
Great reaction, it is a very funny story.
Gary rossington one of his mules along Allen Collins was waiting in the car and Ronnie come running out and said that man only saw asses and elbows lol
The ironic thing about this true story is that lead singer Ronnie Van Zant was a mean SOB and loved to fight when drinking but this was one of the exceptions. Told the guy If your gonna shoot me it will be in the a$$ or the elbows
🔥🔥🔥✌️
Love this song! 💖😎
I like the live version where he says "i ain't gonna fight em over this cun*!!!"😂
Lord don’t let me die over this cu@t
Best song ever 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎵🎵🎵🔥
Great reaction, bro! Check out Call Me the Breeze by these cats!
Check out Got That Right.
🎶🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶💯
another great classic is JAMES TAYLOR song FIRE AND RAIN
On The Hunt - Winterland 1975
Tales from Jacksonville.
Happened to me twice after beating two guys in pool tournaments, my smarta$$ told both of them to shoot me like a man tight where I stand. I forgot my finance was there also, all I was thinking about was this man in front of me.
If you liked this then you should definitely check out Uneasy Rider by The Charlie Daniel's Band. I think you'll like it.
This song was based on a real incident. The lead singer Ronnie was in a bar underage and picking up on a bikers girlfriend. He said "If he shoots me he will have to shoot my ass or my elbows".
Hey Greg, believe it or not, this was actually a true story that happened to the band lol
You missed the line, "the water fell on the floor.". In other words, he pissed his pants!
You made me laugh so hard!! I had the same reaction first time I heard this song--DUDE! Ohhh. . . SHIT! Bob and weave, bob and weave! lol! Great song. Another great, (they're kind of shitty in the song though. I mean, a little bit not cool) is Lynyrd Skynyrd's "What's your name?" But, "Curtis Low" is BY FAR one of their best story songs. Ever!
I can’t remember if you’ve done Don’t Ask Me No Questions but if not, I think you would like it.
Greg,try Allman Brothers whipping post
You've gotta get onto more Skynyrd. Try Saturday Night Special or That Smell
Your next Skynard song should be "Call me the breeze" another fun song.
OPP more than 20 years before Naught by Nature.😂
Please do a reaction to lynryd skynyrd freebird at knebworth live
He was just dancing in a bar with Linda Lou. They weren't having a affair .
All he did was ask her to dance. She didn't tell him she had a boyfriend, so who was really at fault?
I agree.
Eddie Murphy twin.
Show me the backdoor🤣
Would love to hear your reaction to LET IT ROLL by a band called Little Feat. It's pure fire with a cool video. Check it out and enjoy watching you listen and explore the world of music.
