Jim Croce was a master songwriter/lyricist. He was great at telling a story and painting a picture with words. He had so many great songs and hits. You should try songs such as Rapid Roy, Workin' at the Carwash Blues or You Don't Mess Around With Jim, if you want to hear more songs like this one. But I also suggest his more serious songs such as I Got A Name, Operator, I'll have to say I love You In A Song or Photographs and Memories. There are so many more to choose from but these would be a good start.

Jim was a brilliant writer. He wrote so many great songs. He wrote some really funny songs, and he wrote some of the most beautiful love songs ever. The story is when Jim was in the Army, he was friends with a guy who as a civilian had a reputation as a tough guy. Jim wrote this song as a shout out to his friend. For a similar kind of story check out Jim's song "You don't mess around with Jim". You can't go wrong with any of Jim's stuff. He and his music partner Maury (the guitar player) sadly died in a plane crash. You should also listen to his songs like Operator, Lover's Cross, Time in a Bottle and I got a name.

Very sad when he died. His wife opened up a supper club called Croce's in San Diego. Local music and great food. Pics of Jim everywhere. Think it might still be there. 40 -50 yrs going.

Loved his music. Always sad about how he died at 30 in a plane crash. Time in a Bottle is my favorite of his. II think he wrote it for his son. The guy singing with him died in the plane crash too.

Jim Croce is GREAT. Worth a deep dive. - On the same theme "Benny The Bouncer" by ELP. Fantastic Ragtime saloon type piano and the drummer using brushes instead of sticks.

Probably Jim's best known song, but he had so many other hits! What a great talent!
