Marlon and team's work is second to none. Until you've been in his shop, met his team, talked with them and seen their work first hand you can't appreciate it. I saw their first full build at Luft years ago and spent 10 minutes with my head in the engine compartment in awe. I thought I'd seen everything after a day of seeing hundreds of air cooled cars of all shapes, sizes, prices and levels of hot rod to originality but their work was utterly captivating even in that context.
I remember when Matt Farah and Jonny Lieberman discussed Workshop 5001 a few years ago on the TST podcast. This is my first time actually seeing the car. It sounds like a lovely thing to drive, but... I know it's a different beast, but I can't help but think that the 11,000 RPM Tuthill 911K is the best "restomod" air-cooled Porsche.
Since the video of Chris Harris, when I think about Porsche restomods the first one that comes to my mind is the Tuthill 911 K. I don't think that a Porsche can be better than that. Even the Carrera GT I think that can't.
@@8Lucas1Simoes2lsdGT Agreed. 11 thousand rpm in a road car is insane, and something very few have achieved (without putting a bike engine in a tiny car). But there's so much more to that car than just the engine.
@@shingoose6197 yeah man, it's also incredible because of the weight (846 Kg), the power (350 PS), the handbrake of a Drift car/ Rallye car, the carbon wheels, the beautiful interior, the classic 911 shape and, of course, the flaming exhaust!
As soon as you see the city lights and period fogs in this "restomod", you know it was done with respect to the era and not upgraded to compete with modern offerings. Love it!
Henry is the best there is. Save the Manuals is my favourite of his and the video I used to show all my film editing students as a great example of on-point cutting. If only there was an Oscar for Best Automotive Reviewer…
This is how a 964 should look, none of that fake, kitsch backdating to make it sort of look like 73" Carrera RS stuff that seems to be in fashion these days.
The 964 is peak 911 design and original mechanical engineering! The 993 is lovely with its redesigned suspension setup and “modernised” design. The 996 has a soft spot for me because of Sally in Cars. The 930 is just the definition of the 80’s! The 964 is my perfect 911, it’s just that the market is insane.
I think this type of build is pure and thoughtful of the original. I absolutely love it. I just cannot get my head around the snub nosed restomod from a particular Cali builder. Its not to my taste at all, but this, this is a real gem. I like what this builder is achieving. Not only is he making the car more fun he's preserving the heritage of the air cooled 911.
Dream car. Glad someone gets it that the 964's are beautiful and not turning them into carbon fiber versions that look like a 1973. This is a way better use of the 964 chassis.
Soon as I see any of these restomod Porsches, Tuthill’s creation jumps to mind! And like others have said on here, all after watching Harris rag the little lightweight up n down its 11k rev range. The only other that comes close, was a young fella from Cali that works at Rod Emory’s- kids name escapes me? But what a gun on bodywork and that old art of shaping metal! What he’s done to a gorgeous little 912 might be on par with Tuthill’s.. Search up one of Magnus Walkers recent outlaw episodes and look for a little silver 912 restomod- this one has the proper boxer four, only it revs to 10k! So has that same almost banshee like wail as Tuthill’s. The space between the doors and the rear wheels have been extended just enough to give it 911 proportions and an utterly bang on stance. This kid has also subtly combined elements of a 365- more so to the rear grill and lights- so so tastefully done too. Ultimately, it’s the super lightweight(circa 850kg) and stratospheric rev characteristics in a 911/12 body that is some how irresistible to me. That and the subtle aesthetic- especially in comparison to say a Singer. I think with regards to this Studio 5001 variant, I’d change the seats too. I’ve never been a fan of those Porsche wheels that stick out further than the tires. Last off, I’d want the weight down to no higher than 1000kg. All hypothetical lottery winning stuff of course;))
Click bait, and not for the title, seeing Henry in the YT picture, and he doesn't let you down. Fantastic review Henry, good steering and dancing, love it! As for Marlon's 964 car, brilliant. Not over done and still has the 911 traits, a bit, true drivers car. Well done.
After Rennsport VII, we went to visit the W5001 workshop. What an amazing visit, kindness of owner taking us around and show us projects, great great job on the engines (3D printing Inconel exhaust collectors). 👍
Why has hagerty snatched up all the best talent recently lol. Henry catchpole, cammisa and dts, who I think would probably like this car if he didn’t have to own it
I loved this video and such a cool company and 964! I loved that song playing at the end on the background. What is that? Thanks for all of the great content! 👍🏼👍🏼
I love everything apart from that rear wing which I would delete or replace with a whale tail, and the seats which I would replace with OEM tombstones.
For me, The Tuthill Porsche 911K is the ultimate expression of the Porsche 911. If I ever won the lottery, it would absolutely be THE car I bought. Don't get me wrong, that car is lovely, but if I am going to fork out supercar money for an air cooled 911- The Tuthill is just "it" for me.
I like the understated looks. It feels like a car to drive vs just to be seen in and admired. Big air cooled engine seems to like a bit of rev too...GT3 crank?
I had a Nightblue over Linen '92 C2 manual about 10yrs ago. It was a great car as is. I would have been happy with an extra 50hp or so. Probably should have kept it. The best mod that I installed was a Cup Pipe...sounded great and removed about 20lbs from the back end.
What a beutyfull car!!!! For me is the 964 the 911 to have, for ever I want a 964, so long as I can remember…….i prefer the turbo 3.6 , the looks of that car,Watch bad boys one, oef what a car!!! Nice video thanks for that!!
i usually don't like how porsches look specially these older ones but after seeing the Singer DLS i discovered my passion for these restomods so in my eyes there is nothing better than a singer
Henry, it's actually a horizontal 6 or boxer 6, not a flat 6. In this type of engine, there are six crank pins, and each cylinder is connected to each crank pin via a connecting rod. This configuration gives a pair of cylinders the boxing motion, which is why the Germans call it a boxer engine, not a flat engine. On the other hand, a flat six has 3 crank pins, and every crank pin has 2 cylinders attached to it via a pair of connecting rods, giving the pair of cylinders a master and slave motion. As far as I know, there is no production of a flat 4 or 6 engine. Another manufacturer using the same principle for their horizontal or boxer engines is Subaru.
I still like the Singer ones a bit more just on the looks being updated, but I do appreciate when restomods try to look virtually as original as possible yet still updating the car. I love seeing restomods, but I do wonder why it’s 964 particularly.
Modern suspension vs. the torsion bars in older cars. Nicer base to work from. Updated interior. etc. I say this as a 911 SC owner - the 964 has some perks if you're already going to spend $$$ on the restomod side of things.
I'm amazed you managed to avoid the Singer shaped elephant in the room all the way through; although I guess we all KNOW who you're carefully not referring to, right?
How about a comparison of those 'money is no object' 911s against a couple of 'money is no object' VW Type 1s? That I would watch for sure. There are a few VW T3s out there that would give those Porsche owners an unexpected surprise.
Love when Henry spends time with builders and cars like this. Makes the videos that much more special.
Marlon and team's work is second to none. Until you've been in his shop, met his team, talked with them and seen their work first hand you can't appreciate it. Did he used to work at singer?

All true.
But i still like GuntherWerks more.
Didn't Henry drive a silver Workshop 5001 car a couple of years ago when he was working for Carfection?
As soon as you see the city lights and period fogs in this "restomod", you know it was done with respect to the era and not upgraded to compete with modern offerings. Love it!
Great review! I really enjoy Carchpole’s reviews… remind me of the best old Petrolicious.
Henry is the best there is.
Save the Manuals is my favourite of his and the video I used to show all my film editing students as a great example of on-point cutting.
If only there was an Oscar for Best Automotive Reviewer…
Catchpole never disappoints with his eloquence. Beautiful car. I see he is a classic watch guy too.....
This is how a 964 should look, none of that fake, kitsch backdating to make it sort of look like 73" Carrera RS stuff that seems to be in fashion these days.
There are many different points of view, which is why there are many different things.
I like Singers, but as a 964 owner, I love it when they preserve the classic 964 look.
Totally agree. This back dating rubbish reminds me of when everyone was forward dating their cars.
I think both are nice, but I like the combination of clean look and classic 911 shape / lights that the 964 gives
The 964 is peak 911 design and original mechanical engineering! The 993 is lovely with its redesigned suspension setup and “modernised” design. A friend of mine just got a restored red E36 and it is stunning! There's something special about modded cars that preserve the og look.
Absolutely floored you got to hit that road, drove it and rode it all the time when I was living in Thousand Oaks. Good show!
Such a beautiful ride, simple elegant yet effective!
Love the simplicity. I want one. 😮
The 964 is one of the best 911 shapes ever made
Dream car. Glad someone gets it that the 964's are beautiful and not turning them into carbon fiber versions that look like a 1973. This is a way better use of the 964 chassis.
If I ever win the lottery, I will buy a Singer and then I'll have it turned back into a 100% original 964.

Superb car. And Henry is amongst the best presenters ever.
After Rennsport VII, we went to visit the W5001 workshop. What an amazing visit, kindness of owner taking us around and show us projects, great great job on the engines (3D printing Inconel exhaust collectors). 👍

That White RS in the garage looked nice.
Air cooled Porsche + Hagerty + Catchpole = ♥
I loved this video and such a cool company and 964! I loved that song playing at the end on the background. What is that? Thanks for all of the great content! 👍🏼👍🏼
Jeez that ducktail totally suits it. Genius
I love everything apart from that rear wing which I would delete or replace with a whale tail, and the seats which I would replace with OEM tombstones.

The past is the new future! Stunning work! 🔥🔥🔥
Perfect. No nonsense, clean, simple yet technical. Agree that the seats are a bit too much against the overall design.
A video starring Mr Catchpole is always top, top quality!
I like the ethos of the company. The 964 is my favourite of the older 911s, preferably without the ducktail.
The 964 pop up spoiler was the best of both worlds imo
I like the understated looks. It feels like a car to drive vs just to be seen in and admired. Big air cooled engine seems to like a bit of rev too...GT3 crank?

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" 👍
Omg I thought I was over it.. I had 4 3.2 carrera from the 1980s … damn damn it!!
Less will always be more. Subtle, classy, purposeful, timeless. Well done.
Wonderful car! I was beginning t wonder if there were any 964s left to....well...leave alone.😎
I really love the 964! And this is beautiful!
Fantastic review, once again, by Catchpole.
Great video, monologue, filming and editing! Love the car, too! Did they raise the red line?
This & the 993 the best looking 911s imo. Good work.👍🏆
Exquisite simplicity
Will there be any 964's left?
Nice to see a 964 that looks like a 964.
Now that’s what we call OEM + 👌🏼
for me, I really enjoyed your Tuthill 911K video. if I had the cash, thats where I'd go.
this shop is pretty nice though.
stunner! air cooled 911 on over-run, the most beautiful sound around
What a beutyfull car!!!! For me is the 964 the 911 to have, for ever I want a 964, so long as I can remember…….i prefer the turbo 3.6 , the looks of that car,Watch bad boys one, oef what a car!!! Nice video thanks for that!!
Gr8 video. Share Your mood about Alps. And old
911 - wow that sound like a good mixture 😊 Greetings from Poland from 911 991.2 Carrera T :)
I don't know what it is about Porsche that drives me wild like they do, but I'd love the chance to take one out for a track day
This Air cooled BoxEngine is the definition of elegance in simplicity!
i usually don't like how porsches look specially these older ones but after seeing the Singer DLS i discovered my passion for these restomods so in my eyes there is nothing better than a singer
Great content, love the channel. Keep it up!
I am happy to see this careful modding of the air cooled Porsche. I hated seeing people take the wide body and make it absurdly wider.
Henry gets a double thumbs up before I even click play
Good video!.....finally a Brit that pronounces Porsche correctly!
GOOD OLD DAY Coming Back 🎉
I have a 964 30th anniversary, best car ever!!!
Great car. You mentioned manual steering but I think I see a PS reservoir in the engine bay?
god, I love Henry so much, thanks for the video !
Fantastic, Henry. I would still take a Singer and speaking of Singer, any chance you can get your hands on a DLS for a review?
Henry as always incredible excellent reviewers
Singer makes some gorgeous 911s
Love your style Henry. Keep up the good work.
Simply beautiful
I seek out Hagerty video's even more than I otherwise would because I love the ultrawide aspect ratio choice.
What a superb review.
Love me a Porsche 911 with a ducktail! all day , everyday!
thanks Henry!
Sweet Casio calculator watch!👍
My kind of livery as well. Cheers 🇨🇦
Tell me about those KW remote reservoir mounting straps.
Gimme this minus the duck tail, perfection.
Looks and sounds like an amazing package!
What a magnificent beast! And I know that saying that is being blatantly unfaithful to my mostly regular and truly gorgeous muted silver 911S.
Better than a Singer? NO-F-WAY!!! :)))
Henry is the best

Interesting twist on the 964 as what the 911 Clubsport was.
This is why I keep buying lotto tickets. Supern film guys.
I see what you did there with the Casio, Henry!
What a stunning thing! :O
Near perfection!
Love This car❤❤
Classic Catchpole
I still like the Singer ones a bit more just on the looks being updated, but I do appreciate when restomods try to look virtually as original as possible yet still updating the car. I love seeing restomods, but I do wonder why it’s 964 particularly.

Technically a better base, if someone wants to drive it and not just look at it.
Amazing
I'm amazed you managed to avoid the Singer shaped elephant in the room all the way through; although I guess we all KNOW who you're carefully not referring to, right?
1 minute into the video and I liked and I want this car badly
I never seen a calculator watch look so natural on a person as it does on Henry.
winner winner narrow body for dinner !
Can we discuss the air-cooled, water-to-air interrcooled twin turbo engine at 7:42 ?
21:9 ultrawide 10 minutes flat video on a Porsche; some may call that perfection.
I want that paint on a jimny but with a nice 2.0L engin
Tuthill 911k - revs to 11,000, weighs 800kg.
Harry, which would you rather drive home? Workshop 5001 car, Gunther, Singer? So far you’re the only auto journalist that has driven all three.
Have a feeling 5001 shop is gonna be busy after this video
How about a comparison of those 'money is no object' 911s against a couple of 'money is no object' VW Type 1s? That I would watch for sure. There are a few VW T3s out there that would give those Porsche owners an unexpected surprise.

Love it !!!
I love 964
Didn't Marlon work for Singer, in their early days?
