I feel your pain! I have definitely hit the "stop" button only to realize I wasn't recording. Thanks for making these videos!

Hon-on: Old-style Shakuhachi / Christian Honkyoku Hey Nick-san, yeah it is a difficult time for study. In our University we are having digital courses with zoom i.e because of the damn Corona. I just writing an article about Zen-Shakuhachi for the course Religion and Society. Next year I plan to write my master thesis : Christian Mysticsm especially Cloud of Unknowing in comparison with Zen-Shakuhachi. I am deeply sorry to cut the lessons so strict but I was so busy. Take care and God bless!

I don't know if you will read this, but I just read the article on your website called "The Iemoto System." I am really grateful to have come across it. It expresses very clearly some of the impressions and thoughts that I have had about the shakuhachi culture I have come across on the internet. One reason I think that I am enjoying exploring the hitoyogiri so much (with your help) is that it doesn't seem to have a strict "you're doing it wrong" feel about it. And I find more joy in this approach.

      Hi Braden,
Thanks as always for the kind words. You're right -- there's no one alive with the authority to tell us "this is wrong!", and besides that it's such a niche-within-a-niche that the few people who are doing it are just grateful for the company :) (...which I am concerning you, as well).

@@hon-onold-styleshakuhachic8017 Thanks for the reply! What you said made me think that my real "problem" isn't so much with the concept of "being right," it is when people take it to a place where it interrupts the sense of or experience of community. I had shakuhachi player dismiss the hitoyogiri as something that "no one plays." I thought to myself, "The only people I know who even know what the shakuhachi is are the people I've told about it! You're not exactly in much of a majority to be making statements like that." In any case I prefer an attitude unites more than divides. And thanks again for making time to make hitoyogiri and shakuhachi more accessible.
