Hitoyogiri Class Preperation #1: basic fingering

This video is intended for those taking the upcoming course on Classical Hitoyogiri that I'm holding together with my friend Shawn Head. If you've signed up for the course, please check your inbox for a copy of the course material for this video.

For the class, I've also developed a low-cost hitoyogiri based on the Muromachi and Edo-era tuning and feel. It's coated in urushi and is decorated with "On-Myo," "The cry of the monkey," in pure gold - a reference to the origin story of the hitoyogiri, which identifies the ethereal cry of the Golden Monkey as the origin of the flute's sound.

Hope kitty is OK- the collar is uncomfortable, I have many cats and dogs and know how much they dislike it. Will pray for Cookie to have fast recovery. And thanks for your fine instructions! At one point, I gave away all my shakuhachi but still have a plastic one which suffices for me. Best wishes

Thanks for the prayers! I'll pass along the kind words to Cookie. Her leg is much better than it was when she showed up on my doorstep two weeks ago. Hopefully she can take off the collar in a few more days. All the best to you -
