Although I have been working as a photographer for the past 2 years, this would be y first light setup purchase, therefore any recommendation is very much appreciated. Thank you!!🙏
Hello! Sorry I missed this until now. I personally like this brand - "Glow" and have used them for pretty much everything in my career so I would highly recommend! This one would be a good starter softbox since it's smaller and will still be a useful size to have long-term if you upgrade to using more flashes and more diffusers. ( amzn.to/3GPRGP8 ) - You'd just need to get this speedlight adapter to clamp in your size of flash to the opening ( amzn.to/3WWSib3 ). On another note, here's the one I started with that's still in great shape - ( amzn.to/3WWSib3 ) - The results are pretty much the same but the materials are a little bit more durable/nicer quality but Westcott's bigger setups are a little over priced IMO. Not sure what you're wanting to do specifically so here's one more reccomendation - a parabolic umbrella. (amzn.to/3XfoXZk) - for interiors you could bounce your flash off of it for accurate colors (on a stand) and also use it for the other types of photography for a soft spread of light. Your call! Lots of options :)
I don’t have the Yongnuo ones to compare but they might be a little more powerful. I used to have some of their flashes and with fresh batteries they were pretty powerful. I like Godox / Flashpoint system better though - great to upgrade overtime and more options for good rechargeable batteries so lots of $$$ saved on batteries :)
Just found your channel. Thanks for the review. I do drone video work and been receiving numerous requests for residential and commercial photography as well. Would use this flash to help in that regard. Best of luck in 2021
i have godox 685, i always use bounce cieling, never tried with diffuser on it, does it help? now i bought umbrella with removable layer, i think bounce umbrella will do a great job but havent tried in a large room with too many wood in it. Can u give me any advise which one tu use is better? thanks for video
@@sndx6138 Reflecting from an umbrella (or any neutral surface) will help a lot with accurate colors when you're in that scenario. Sometimes I'll even grab a white pillow from a room I already shot to do the trick lol. But if you have space for an umbrella I'm sure that's the best option for consistent results.
Great idea ! Was thinking about doing one about how to make flash shots look natural and i just shot some great examples for my course I’m working on that might work for that :) short explaination - balance to the interior color temp for any inside shot whether or not it’s flash or just ambient layer, and outside color temp for window views so everything in the final edit is “color accurate” as the goal. Sometimes it can get a little complicated but hope that helps for now! :)
Hello sir is the flash have already given? Am i was just wondering if its still in your hand. Cause i really flash for my freelance photography by the way sir i am just a beginner and hoping that you can teach me something about photography. Thank you
Great video and channel. How do you get the camera to trigger with the flash and no remote? For some reason I can only trigger the camera and flash with my remote control. Thanks!
Thanks so much!! They work together so the trigger signals the flash without having a receiver on it like some flashes would need to have. That’s one of the big reasons I like the Godox flashes !! :)
Got this flash thank you so much! Is there a reason it will not shoot with the display on remotely? I have the same set up as you do but it's not allowing me to have the display on using the trigger. Is there a setting on the camera I might have missed?
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo If i have the live view on and hit the button to shoot the photo the flash will not go off remotely. If I turn off the live view the flash will go off. This is while using the remote trigger. When the flash is attached to the camera it's fine both ways. I can't seem to find any information from Godox either. It's just a little annoying shooting on the tripod trying to see what I'm doing and turning the live view on and off while holding the flash. I was wondering if it was a setting that I missed. You didn't seem to have an issue right out of the box! Again thanks for the flash recommendation it really is amazing for $50.

If you're doing events in smaller spaces, and have a lens with a wider aperture (2.0 or so) - probably will be ok to add some fill flash. BUT I'd think it wouldn't be great for big rooms or if you need to do fast bursts of photos (the cheaper flash) since the recycle time is slower. That's part of why I got my V1 flash for though - works great for events!

I realize this comment is 8 months old so by this point you might have moved on, but I actually have 3 vivitar 285s and have used them pretty successfully for real estate so far. I've heard them called the 'vw beetle' of Speedlites and I think that fits. They are dirt cheap but never seem to die. Hello . i bought a new godox tt520ii flash. but i have a problem. there is a lag in the flash illumination and triggering of the camera. you can help me ? thank you
Hey! Does some of the screen look darker than the rest ? If that's what is happening your shutter speed is probably too fast to sync with the flash. Either it needs to be set to HSS (High speed sync) if it has that function, or the shutter speed needs to be under 1/160 or 1/125 for it to work in time. Let me know if that helps! :)
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo I am with the speed 1/60. f 3.5 Iso 100. Flash manuel do you have WhatsApp or Facebook to send you pictures to better understand?
Hey! I haven't tried that but I think you'd have to have a flash + camera with really high sync speeds for that to be possible so I'd think it wouldn't work for the darker shots. Likely though, if you're using flash you won't really need/want to use HDR since adding the flash reduces the need for more dynamic range which is what HDR processing does (since with flash you're increasing the interior brightness to much closer to the exterior brightness). I'll have to try it some time though! Let me know if that helps :) - TB

@@Ishizaki3k For sure! It's a lot. For HDR my go-to is ISO 100, F8, and variable shutter speed with neutral color profile. (RAW Photos) For using flash my go-to's are ISO 400, F6.3, variable shutter speed to set ambient exposure, and flash varies too depending on what's needed. For all of them I use the 2 second timer setting to make sure the camera is most still when taking the photos. Let me know if that works!

Awesome! Let me know how it goes. I’ve got lots of them on the channel and am about to launch a course covering it more in depth! (Monday)
Thanks for the video. How do you charge the minitransmitter? Thanks
For sure! It has a little battery in it that you would need to replace
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo thanks!
how is the light output of the Godox Tt520 compared to a yongnuo 565, 568 etc at full power. ?
I don’t have the Yongnuo ones to compare but they might be a little more powerful. I used to have some of their flashes and with fresh batteries they were pretty powerful. I like Godox / Flashpoint system better though - great to upgrade overtime and more options for good rechargeable batteries so lots of $$$ saved on batteries :)
Just found your channel. Thanks for the review. I do drone video work and been receiving numerous requests for residential and commercial photography as well. Would use this flash to help in that regard. Best of luck in 2021
Hey!! Thanks for checking out the channel :) They like to be able to hire one person they like working with so keep it up!! Thats awesome
Great explaination, im new to photography but more interested in macro,
Thanks ! What kind of macro ?

i have godox 685, i always use bounce cieling, never tried with diffuser on it, does it help? now i bought umbrella with removable layer, i think bounce umbrella will do a great job but havent tried in a large room with too many wood in it. Can u give me any advise which one tu use is better? thanks for video
Nice !! Yeah definitely try it out. That should give you more accurate colors and be nice and soft especially if it’s a white one.
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo u mean bounce cieling with diffuser or reflect from the umbrella.
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thank u so much! From Georgia, Tbilisi. i ll add u in FB if u dont mind
No problem! Glad to help 🤗
Can you please make a video on how to white balance between ambient shot and flash shoot
Thank you
Hey! Sorry but yes it was quite a while ago. Hope the channel helps you! Lots more on flash on here :)
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo can i follow you on any of your social media so we can talk and i realy want to learn from you
Great video and channel.
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thanks so much!
do you use TTL or switch back to manual as required?
Both! Usually TTL at +.3 is a great starting point for smaller-medium rooms. But for more dialed in shots, manual is better.
Got this flash thank you so much! Is there a reason it will not shoot with the display on remotely? I have the same set up as you do but it's not allowing me to have the display on using the trigger. Is there a setting on the camera I might have missed?
Hey! I haven't had that issue so I'm not sure what you mean. Your live view shuts off??
@@SoChicLife So weird! It must be a setting.. Check these out and see if your camera has the same settings. Not totally sure which ones I have changed and what's standard lol.

@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thank you! Mark 6D II doesn't have some of these. I will call Canon support and see if they can help.
is this okay for event photography?
If you're doing events in smaller spaces, and have a lens with a wider aperture (2.0 or so) - probably will be ok to add some fill flash. BUT I'd think it wouldn't be great for big rooms or if you need to do fast bursts of photos (the cheaper flash) since the recycle time is slower. That's part of why I got my V1 flash for though - works great for events!
will the godox work on my canon t4i?
If it has a hotshoe on top that can trigger a flash it should work
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo thanks
Is it possible to connect the 520 ii to the remote control from V1?
Hey! You should be able to trigger it from the V1 in optical slave mode (S1) like most flashes 👍
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo thanks

I have a question. I have an old Vivitar 285 Flash in perfect condition. Is this something I can use or should I go out and buy a flash. I am just starting out and trying to use some equipment I already have.
Honestly I don’t know. I would just try it out with your camera and see what it can do for you and go from there !
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thanks for the advice, I will give it a go today.
I realize this comment is 8 months old so by this point you might have moved on, but I actually have 3 vivitar 285s and have used them pretty successfully for real estate so far. I've heard them called the 'vw beetle' of Speedlites and I think that fits. They are dirt cheap but never seem to die. That said I just bought an ad200 pro so I'll have to see if that changes my opinion. How have you made out with yours?
@@jrwstudios They worked out great. The thyristor is fairly accurate and the flashes are reasonable powerful. I actually made my first $250 this weekend and already have repeat business.
@@jrwstudios Do you mind if I check out your channel?
Great video! How did you get the Godox 520 flash to take a photo on the camera? I can use my camera to trigger the flash but not vice versa. I just got my Godox 520 today and it's really nice BTW.
Hey! I just used the trigger that came with it on the camera. With a 2 or 10 second timer so it gives you time to hold and angle it where you want by the time the camera shutter goes off
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thanks! I just figured that out after seeing the flashing light on your camera. LOL
Great videos BTW and I used your affiliate link yesterday to get the Godox 520II delivered today so you can get a little kickback. ;)
I'm hoping to get started in real estate photography here in Dallas since the market is on fire. Any advice? I know a couple of agents and may reach out to them first. Not sure about what to charge though. I'm looking for simple shoots lasting 3-5 hours then I will edit and use presets. I'm thinking $500-$750 to begin?
I also have the following equipment and would appreciate any advice on that as well:
- Sony a6300
- Sigma 16mm f1.4
- Tamron 70-300mm
- K&F Variable ND Filter
- Manfrotto Befree Live with video and photo heads
- Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod
- Godox 520Ii
- Rode VideoMicro
- GoPro Hero
- Aukey Slimline External Battery
- Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop
Thanks!! That might be a bit high unless you’re doing dusk / drone photos for starters. But i don’t know what’s normal in Dallas so maybe im wrong. Hope you can charge that much though! Would be great :)
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Thanks Taylor. I'll set a max for $500 then. Do you have a contract template that you use or can point me towards? I'm really looking forward to this. Much appreciate your advice!

im interested the godox tt520 pls
Hey! Thanks so much for checking out the video. Unfortunately we already did the giveaway a while back so it’s too late.
How do I sync my godox tt520 ii to my XT16 trigger
Hey! I don't have that trigger personally but it looks like you would just need to match the channel number to sync and have it on M mode (on flash) from what I can tell. Hope that helps!
whats the modifier you have an the Z1?
Hey! They both have the modifiers that come with the flash on them.
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo thanks for the replay I got the Neewer Z1c it did not come with a dome diffuser but still a cliiter flash. Thanks for the video!
Oh no worries ! They don’t help a ton. Just make sure your zoom is set to the widest setting (usually 24mm) and it’ll work.
I will like the flash bro lol..
Will the Godox work with cell phones? I bought the S21 ultra to start out small
For phone photography?? Haven’t heard of them working with phones :/ sorry!
Pretty sure Godox receiver xpro can have Bluetooth connected to phone, then you can click and trigger xpro hence control the group and channels of flashes.

Hey man. Just started my own business to begin shooting real estate photography as well as video and some drone footage.. (Reel Rich Productions). I've been in law enforcement for 20 years now and looking for something to do when I bail. I've been researching flashes now for about a month. I just purchased a Canon M50 and hope to get into RE photography once I figure out what I am doing. I was always curious on the difference between the really expensive gear vs the budget friendly for us newbies. After your video I guess that clears that question up. Thanks, jfranks73
Nice!! M50 is a great camera. I had a cropped sensor camera for a long time with RE Photography and it was great as long as you have a wide enough lens! (I had an 11-16).
I bought the Laowa 9mm but still practicing with it since it is only manual. Have you ever used this one?
its weird because the guide number on the $45 flash is much higher
What does that mean?
Is Godox compatible with SL3?
Should work with any camera that has a hotshoe capable of triggering flash (most)
I have doubts because this camera does not have the central pin on the shoe
@@lpproducoesaudiovisual8888 Im not totally sure. I'd check in your menu and see if there is anything about flash and if so, it is probably ok. I think most cameras are set up to be able to use flash except some that have them built in already

This vid made me buy this flash 👍
Hope you like it !
Hello . i bought a new godox tt520ii flash. but i have a problem. there is a lag in the flash illumination and triggering of the camera. you can help me ? thank you
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo my screen is totally black. because the flash is on before the sensor takes the picture (with transmitter)
What are your settings ? And camera

You’re a godsend.
Thanks for the support :)
Okay so i have a question. Can you use a flash when shooting Hdr? if yes then it has to be continuous lighting?
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo i appreciate the response man, im trying to get into this space and there’s so much to learn. Im just trying to figure out camera setting for my canon rebel T5i and im not really sure where to start. Everyone seems to be giving different answers.
@@Ishizaki3k For sure! It's a lot. For HDR my go-to is ISO 100, F8, and variable shutter speed with neutral color profile. (3 brackets at -3, 0, +3 for that camera should be good) White balance on auto should be fine since you can adjust in the edit. (RAW Photos) For using flash my go-to's are ISO 400, F6.3, variable shutter speed to set ambient exposure, and flash varies too depending on what's needed. For all of them I use the 2 second timer setting to make sure the camera is most still when taking the photos. Let me know if that works!
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo you’re a great guy Taylor! Appreciate the feedback that was very helpful. One thing with my camera is for some reason it only lets me set my bracketing to -2 , 0 , +2. It shows the 3s on there but it won’t let me go to that. I’ll try to figure that out. Thanks again, I’ll keep watching your videos to learn more
@@Ishizaki3k Interesting! Maybe you have to do 5 brackets to do 3?? I would just try both and see how the results look and go from there. Some cameras have more dynamic range and only need 3 shots, and some might do better using extra (5)
