Thats so cool! I’m in 8th grade and playing flute, and we’re playing it for concert band now. It’s a little hard to play once you first learn it, but it’s such a fun song

Snowy and callie Vlogs omg I need your band in my school. I have 5-6 percussionists, 2 tubas, 2 baritones (euphonium), 5 trombones, 11-13 trumpets, 6 saxes, 1 tenor, 1 bari, 2 French horn, 3 flutes and 6 clarinets
18 measures with the same scale, no rests or breaths. Literally two measures for respite. Then more measures with the same scale with practically no breaths. That's flute for you.
EnchantedCutie I wish I could do snare. We only had two percussionist in my class so I was on suspended cymbals, tambourine, and wind chimes. The other percussionist did..bass, snare, and triangle?
I played clarinet when I played this in middle school and I still have flashbacks to this and how much the clarinets, trombones, and flutes DESPISED IT!! I still here it and my mouth still hurts a bit from it. I will never be the same again.
I laugh at people saying it's a "middle school piece". It's a beginning band piece, there is no age or school level pinned to it, it's skill level. There's a difference 😂

@Jarrett Usui well the flute is naturally high instrument while the trumpets more medium (dont really know how to explain it :P) it takes more effort to get the higher notes on the trumpet than the flute.

+Narwhal Potato I am debating on whether or not to play my alto sax or my cello for our full orchestra concert... lol I think I might do Alto Sax. Alto Sax for the WIN!!!
+David Combs (DavidPlaysMC) Man, as an alto sax player it pains me to say that Altos have no true place anywhere exept in a jazz band. I've been playing for 10 years btw

So now my Band teacher and my Grade 5 teachers have retired after dealing with my grades for the last time
I’m playing it in grade 9 too bc most of the people that came to my school didn’t have music during middle school, so we’re like beginners and I never had music in middle school and yeah
Played this during my first band concert in middle school in the clarinet section. My favorite and most memorable piece during those 3 years. Still remember the notes to this day xD
We played this in 6th grade and I was the only flute in the whole band, which sucked but I loved being the only one when playing at 0:30 MY TIME TO SHINE. xD
I'm playing at a concert today, and there are 7 flutes including me, and I think that we are the loudest one's, no lie. 1 like=1 less flute, 1 comment=1 less of the other instruments
Finding my old account and finding this masterpiece again. 5 years ago my band played this and as a trombone this was my favorite one we played for our concert
I played alongside Robert W. Smith about 2 years ago for an honors band after playing tempest in middle school, he’s a great guy and I got my trumpet signed by him, unfortunately the signature rubbed off a few weeks later but it was an unforgettable performance
Who else played this when they were in middle school
We be playing it right now

+Narwhal Potato I am debating on whether or not to play my alto sax or my cello for our full orchestra concert... lol I think I might do Alto Sax. Alto Sax for the WIN!!!
+David Combs (DavidPlaysMC)
Man, as an alto sax player it pains me to say that Altos have no true place anywhere exept in a jazz band. I've been playing for 10 years btw
+Ethan Stowell yep, this is my first year
hope you do good with
the sax
Yaaass🎷🎷
everyone: *complaining about having the same note over and over, hard notes, not being able to breath*
me, a percussionist: *......45-59, am i right?.....no?...ok..*

+anonymousespionage +Wendy Marvel I played this in grade 6 3 years ago, if you wanted to know about another place to add to your "identical music at different places" list
Also, my band teacher retired the year I graduated ;-; He was the best, I don't know how the school will go on without him. So now my Band teacher and my Grade 5 teachers have retired after dealing with my grades for the last time
+stargirlhorse I'm a freshman and we played this last year. Don't feel embarrassed. You'll do great when you guys perform it!! Good luck!!
***** No problem! I have faith in you!
currently playing this piece for an upcoming concert I'm a clarinet and I love this peace to death it brings what I consider music you literally life
Every clarinet, flute, and trumpet has deeply suffered playing this. 😥😭
I'm a flute player and we play this piece in four days at Sandy Lake!!! (I'm so proud of the band lol)

+Kai Richard Lucht Without flute and oboe you guys would be nothing i tell you! NOTHING!
+Wolfie Wu LIES you are a LIAR!!!

How Robert W. Smith controls a middle school band:
6th Grade: The Tempest
7th Grade: The Great Locomotive Chase
8th Grade: The Great Steamboat Chase
ACCURATE OMG
i played defeating the giant in 8th
In 7th grade we're playing this
This piece is like a simplified version of Into the Storm.
Playing this on clarinet in grade 9... WHYYYYYYY???
Er, this piece's difficulty is not very hard, why are you playing it in high school?
Sarah Alvarado Exactly! Everyone is so bored with it.
Ask your teacher if you can play Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli. That's the best piece ever.
how... i played this song in grade 6 (im now in grade 9)
I’m playing it in grade 9 too bc most of the people that came to my school didn’t have music during middle school, so we’re like beginners and I never had music in middle school and yeah
Played this in my spring concert for fourth grade. LOVED IT. took lots of breath
Robert W. Smith's songs used to be putting us middle schoolers to work! 😂😂
Played in middle school... Tromboners unite!!
Trombonists 😬
Same playing it in middle school (right now) and play the same instrument
Diego Hernandez same
Trombones Forever
This is in my concert next month.

Almost cried from remembering when I played this. I was the snare drum, and played with the band. I miss it so much
All clarinet players out there with me we need other notes than just A lol a great jr high price tho
clarinets: lol ez HOLD UP NOOOOOOOO
flutes: OMG THIS IS LIKE FROZEN
sax: now, this is epic
percussion: lol ez
trumpets: its go time
Everyone’s talking about how hard the flute is in this piece
Well eat the flute so you don’t have to struggle with that
Played this during my first band concert in middle school in the clarinet section. My favorite and most memorable piece during those 3 years. Still remember the notes to this day xD
I play saxophone and our parts are the one thats stands out because mainly all the other instruments are playing the same notes
Go saxophones!! I also play it i like it because the ones with the melody
Christopher Betancourt finally i found a fellow saxophone but what saxophone do you play? i play the Alto Saxophone...

+Christina Polick it's super hard but fun
Cristian Hernandez So true I love the Alto Sax!
We played this in 6th grade and I was the only flute in the whole band, which sucked but I loved being the only one when playing at 0:30 MY TIME TO SHINE. xD
YOU ARE NOT THE MELODY THERE SILLY YOUR TIME TO SHINE IS 1:18
Jonni S that’s trumpets
@@gamestheater6571 what the trumpets are playing there is definitely NOT the melody
Jonni S Yes it is I play trumpet and we play that part that starts at 1:18
My middle school band played this for our spring concert. I played the flute and wow it brings back memories.
I'm playing at a concert today, and there are 7 flutes including me, and I think that we are the loudest one's, no lie. 1 like=1 less flute, 1 comment=1 less of the other instruments
Imagine playing this twice the speed.
That's what my band director put us through for some reason.
Thank goodness I play baritone.
Same! (I also play baritone and our teacher also made us play fast) I could see the suffering of the others

the flute is definitely the hardest woodwind
Quialexa Campbell oboe. It's the highest instrument.
Nope, it's the piccolo,
and if you mess up on a piccolo everyone is going to be able to tell because their ears will be bleeding.
ArticVikingChic Trust me. Google it.
ArticVikingChic
I can contest to that as a piccolo player
Quialexa Campbell true but it's actually piccolo
This was the first “real” song we ever played in my middle school band and it made me so happy🤩❤️
trumpets have so many rest in this song😂😭😭
Soy Sauce. Kevin lmaoooo

I played alongside Robert W. Smith about 2 years ago for an honors band after playing tempest in middle school, he’s a great guy and I got my trumpet signed by him, unfortunately the signature rubbed off a few weeks later but it was an unforgettable performance
Where are my percussionist at though?
