🕊️
I’ll never forget you.
I’m so grateful that I was your student,
and was able to learn from you for
seven wonderful years.
He died?
That’s really sad, I never new him but always played and listen to his music
wow so this is what it sounds like when the trumpet section isn't blasting in your ear!
Omg, I'm relating. I play flute, and like, we have hell to do. But the audience can't even hear us because the trumpet players behind me are blasting the fuck out of their instruments.
Shea and lei exactly I feel you on that part I play the flute as well
Hi _Jr I feel u
i guess nobody like the trumpet 😞
Sorry guys, can't help it.
... I hear saxes AND strings.. This pleases me GREATLY.
same...i remember playing it with wind only, which sounded really good in itself, but the strings is like :O Amazing
I play sax
There are no saxes in this piece. The official score doesn't show any
Zetsumeix Orishigami
You know there are multiple official scores to this right? Also 1:13 you can hear altos is you listen. They're faint but you can hear them.
Exactly thank you Dylan McCormack
this piece is hell for flutes :)))
Marie Loy it's pretty bad for the marimba too but I like fast pace songs so this is like my favorite song I've played next to a pirates adventure
Marie Loy probably the easiest thing ever for trombones( quarter note ------------------------quarter note--------------- and so on)
If you think this is hell, you don't want to hear some of the stuff my band plays, Arabesque is personally one of my favorites
Overall it's still ok but u need lungs of steel
I can't even begin to imagine that considering I am a low brass
I like Robert W. Smith's music a lot. I like how the music starts off in a tumultuous way, then becomes more quiet and peaceful, and then returns for a tumultuous climax. This fits perfectly with "Into the Storm," giving us the imagery of a hurricane with a placid eye. I have noticed this style in other songs of his too, such as "The Great Locomotive Chase" and "Inchon." It is great!!
Yeah that's true. He made Encanto I think as well which I played, and this, and they have a similar idea
this is because, we’ll for this specific song, that in every storm there is an “eye” and in the eye is more peaceful than the outsides. it’s called into the storm because it’s rough, loud and all bad stuff at the beginning, then you reach the eye and it’s all good, then you leave and it’s the same as the first part. hope that makes sense.
Ooo hes conducting us this year
Yeah I love him but his friends are hella bitches
You should listen to 'The Divine Comedy.' Easily Smith's best piece.
alright flutes...I'll give you this one
Yay lets go us flutes!
FlapJack good this one was a hard one
I love how all the people in band come here to comment and are like, "Whoo, clarinets! Let's go flutes!!" It makes my day.
FlapJack Thank you, I'm paying going to play this one on my concert soon and I play the flute, hella hard at the start I mean I can play it and all but it's hard
I'm going to play this one*
As a trumpet player, I love how we actually fit into the melody perfectly, especially in the slower movements, and that solo is just…..amazing!
I played this in middle school! I had the piccolo solo and my face turned bright red but I still nailed it. Good times....
Cinder Block Our piccolo needs to die
i play picc too!!
I'm playing it rn in middle school in orchestra its so hard D:
alexia harris get ready for high school band😉
Played this in highschool so fun
I'm addicted to this piece, we're playing it for full orchestra. Being second violin is actually quite fun. I also grew a new respect for band.
There are so many comments about bass clarinets, and it's great. I have never seen or experienced so much support and love, and I am equal parts happy, proud, and amazed. About time the bass clarinets had a freaking important part, we're tired of whole notes and rests.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Smith 🙏
One of the best
I remember being very little and hearing my older sister’s orchestra play this and I was so excited when I finally reached high school and our teacher said we could play this! And it. Was. Awesome!
I play the flute. Robert W. Smith is ultimately one of my favorite composers. Last year we played The Tempest as one of our songs, and this year we played one of the as The Great Locomotive Chase. I'd love to play this song.
I played this in middle school as a trombone player in this song still gives me chills
Trombonists! \o/ I'll do you proud, we're playing it for our concert soon :P
The tambourine in this song is literally the coolest thing ever. I'm not sure how it took me so many years to realize how special it was, but damn.
☝️Maybe the triangle is the best... 😉
BEAUTIFUL song. I love it. Wish this was a theme song for a movie. It would probably be awesome.
Um, aren't you all commenting this video realising it's full orchestra, NOT concert band?
Right?! All these bass clarinet comments and I'm like "Can you not hear that it's clearly a BASSOON playing the duet in this arrangement?" 😅😅😅
That brass section at 2:09 just gives me chills. Don't argue, be happy you got to play or listen to this piece of music. You're a winner!
Yeah for most some the woodwinds have control over the slower sections while brass takes control of the fast sections. it's the complete opposite here.
I like it, the trumpets sound beautiful.
Kevin Ho It’s actually a French horn
This song is so hard, yet so cool, my band class is currently playing this. We have been working on it for a long time and it is finally starting to really come together. We don’t play this fast tho, but pretty close. It’s really fun to play and I am so happy we get to play it!
@@aubrey4577 it’s clearly a trumpet😭
this is gorgeous, i wanna play it with my concert band. the "eye of the hurricane" in this song is breathtaking.
one year later, my concert band director has picked this song for us to play ! im playing bass clarinet :)
the tempest = level 1 crook
Into the storm = level 35 boss
Bruh
Bruh the tempest was fire but this slaps hard
Africa = level 40 DLC
The Great Locomotive Chase = level 50 mod
me praying i don't screw up the bass clarinet solo
I know its late but you'll do great, i play the bass clarinet myself Erin Weisser
Baby Shar fun fact: i messed it up badly. lol but thank you!
Erin Weisser aww im sorry but you still had fun playing it right? I played this last year with my best friends strings class it was awesome
Baby Shar yes!! It's a very pretty piece!
Erin Weisser you should play rock classics of the 70s its so much fun
Freaking amazing piece. Our symphonic band is playing this
CLARINETS FTW!!
This has got to be the greatest piece of music ever written
Matt G Check out ancient voices and fate of the gods and you'll change your mind (((:
I beg to differ - I prefer Goddess of Fire and Winds of Poseidon :)
Agreed
Ever heard of Hearts of Courage by 2 steps from Hell?
Geordi-lee McIntyre yes, very good piece, might change my mind
aight guys my concert is tomorow wish me luck. playing this and hymn to the fallen. btw Clarinet for life!!!🔈🔉🔊
+Diamonè Channiegotyugiohcardsinhispocket Totally! Clarinet Rules!
+Diamonè Channiegotyugiohcardsinhispocket I play this, this Wednesday, I'm first seat clarinet wish me luck! :)
dave c good luck!!
+Diamonè Channiegotyugiohcardsinhispocket
good luck. i have to play this- as well as many HARD pieces- im only 13! but i play trombone lol
+Diamone LiteralTrash Eyyyy Chanyeol WHY YOU NEVER TELL ME ABOUT THE CLARINET? XD #Chansoo
I feel bad for the flutes & the bass clarinets. O_O
Thanks bro ;-;
+Ana Banana We have to hit a high D on a Bari sax, don't feel bad :)
+Franks Edits High D in bari isnt hard...
the flute part is fun but hard as hell
fr its hard for me ( I'm a bass clarinet) and I've made all state 3times
I LOVE Robert W. Smith, great composer. CLARINET FTW
☺️😭😌The best piece I played by far, next to Stranger on the Shore. This is a piece I'll NEVER forget!😌😭☺️😍 Thank you Mr. Watson!😍
at cadet camp my flight played this song and every time we played it it rained shortly after or in the middle of our rehearsals so we said we had magical instruments
everyone here is woodwind or brass and im just like "Percussion here!!!" anyone else
+Annie the dark child i'm in percussion, i played the gong
+Annie the dark child Ello there!
+Metalcore Michael Yas, instead of Gong I played Crash,Snare and Triangle. challenge but it was worth
Me here
Update: Got gong and bass.
One of my favorites songs by Robert Smith. Absolutely amazing.
Played this my sophomore year and loved it so much 😍 amazing song and made me cry even why I listen to it. Sophomore year was one of the greatest
this song is so simple yet so complex, I figured out every cord my first time listening to it but it is not easy to play at all, but it is so simply made it is excellent
such a beautiful song. played this for marching band this season and it made me tear up acouple times in the field.
The football field... or the quantum field ;) ~~~~~>💓°•○☆💕
Any French horn players up in here? very fun instrument I might add. I love playing a color instrument. I was a trumpet player but then switched to french horn. and now I play double bass in some songs
Patrick Leonard French horn is best horn
the horn part was fun on this piece
if only we did it with orchestra and not just wind players
3 years late but yes
dude, same, I play french horn and double bass, neato mosquito
a little bit like tempest and first 10 seconds were like Maelstrom. He combines his music well to make this song
Hearing this performed live is one of the few positive memories of high school I have.
This and Shannon falls on the French horn. Wow, beautiful.
When you play this every year at graduation, considering your school's know as the Storm. Also I played this for 7 years, 1 in middle school, 4 in HS, and 2 after I had graduated...last I played was almost 8 years ago...
Maybe today you know this piece entierly by heart...😉
Mignonmoogle…
How are you still replying to comments after 10 YEARS???
Only band nerds would look up band pieces. But guess what, band nerds are amazing!!!! Any Trumpets here????
Sax guys have the biggest dongs.
Trumpets for life. This bassoon solo is dope tho ngl
@@clintonlied says the one who squeaks like a bird lol
Trombone here
Saxophone player band geek right here. 😂
I played this for my tenth grade Winter concert, can't stop listening.
I played the Clarinet in my high school band.😌I played this in Grade 12 and it won me 2nd prize in the Canadian High School Provincial Music Championship of 2001😌. This song brings back memories of that day for me 😌. This goes out to Mr.Watson, my high school music teacher and a true inspiration 😂. Also, a shoutout to JE, the best bass clarinet player of 2001☺️😇.
Hillary Crichton I've heard my band play it and I think it sounds pretty fine. But this song at Grade 12 must sound like heaven!
I played this in Middle school, and I was (basically) the only French horn. I was the only one in my section who could play this with ~95% accuracy. My band director said that it was the best French horn he had ever heard.
I’ve been in love with this piece for over 15 years ❤️
yussss the cello section can finally be heard with all the brass instruments
I still remember how to play this 20 years later...i love it!
Trumpets are sooo beautiful when they're used correctly
@trumpets don't try to scream notes it hurts your tone a ton...
this was literally my fav part to play in band
Draconid Zinnia Your gonna have bad tone of your a brass instrument. When you gotta play high a G super quietly it's kind of hard lol.
Fatty Mcgee Agreed, its very difficult to play that G above the staff quietly
Draconid Zinnia but you have no Idea how hard it is to play quiet for trumpets, I mean they were kinda of made to be loud .3.
Played an arrangement of this piece in high school for marching band and it still is one of my favorites.
Had this piece in my freshman marching show, needless to say it was my favorite movement!!! I love it so much,,
I'm a 7th grade cellist. The music piece may look hard, but it's not impossible. This is the best piece I've played, and I've only been playing cello for 3 years. But wish me luck because I'm going to a college to perform in front of thousands of people including judges, in March.
I really love this piece. But if I have to say, my favorite measures are 90-105 , I love how the violins in my orchestra play their part beautifully, (kinda wants me to hire them to play at my wedding because it's that beautiful) and then with the cello's (me) part it blends well. And at 104 with the pick up, is just the best!!I also really like 22 to the second best of 42, I love how the cellos and violas combine their parts to make an intense beat. UGH IM IN LOVE WITH THIS PIECE!!! :'^))
ugh, I literally can't stop listening to it. this is my 12th time. I think I have a problem 😅😂
Good luck I think you'll be fantastic
I would love to play cello, it looks fun, but all we have in my city are band and no strings or orchestras until college.
+Mary Caroline Pecjo Keep at it and you will succeed. I regret giving up the Tuba. I thought I'd find a more lucrative career studying the sciences but that really hasn't turned out to be the case. Some of the best times of my life were in big ensembles playing music like this. Do it for the love and and the harmony and don't let it up.
not gonna lie the flute is pretty awesome
Ah man, I loved playing this piece in band. I was first clarinet - and the ONLY first clarinet. My class literally had three clarinet players (including myself) at the time.
Somehow we managed to outplay the other instruments.
Ahh the 1st chair recorder sounds really good!
my band is performing this for the national championship in Norway. Its going to be amazing. So I have to play this every day for 4 months. French horn is the best btw
French horn is awesome, but I play trumpet and this sounds EPIC!!!!
So 7 years later, how did it go?
@@lukatosic09 We got second place in third division! Went up to second division that year and also got award for best solo
Played this the my last year at my old school. I was first trombone. What a way to to end my last year there :D
*****
Wow, sounds tough. Our band teacher does one or two chair tests a year and doesn't do them anymore if he likes where they are. The piccolo solo, even though they messed up once or so, was really good (they'd only been playing the piccolo for less than a month)!
*****
i should actually tell that idea to my band director; once he gave us a 45 minute speech on how we didn't really care, and I REALLLLLYYYY wish that the seventh graders wouldn't talk so much; we were so good last year, and this year, we're...average.
you guys are lucky our band directer gives us a test every 3 weeks
TheCreepyCreeper Jesus christ. I'm so sorry :(
+sparkle1princess we have on every other day
I played this in a high school band concert. It was kinda tough, but I really like this song.
Sounds very similar to The Great Locomotive Chase, but still great song
cause it's by the same person, also sounds similar to the tempest
I have a poll question to ask everybody: Any Baritone Saxophones out there?
+Bryan Nguyen in your pictire, what are you holding
Hailee Howard I am an interim (assistant basketball coach) for my high school. Thanks for noticing that! You're the first person to recognize that! Thanks Hailee!
+Bryan Nguyen I don't know why but you seem vaguely familiar
Percussion 4 lyfe. haha This song brings back good memories.
For sure, bells were so fun on this.
How?
Yup I played this in my 7th grade year gong crash cymbal tambourine and wind chimes
Okay - when I was a junior in highschool (1996) we played this song for graduation and we got a standing ovation for it. All these years later, this is the one song I still remember and love. Wish I still had the music to play this. Brings back lots of good memories for me! :)
We played this song last year for a band competition and I absolutely love it!!
4:55 for trumpets it says "pick a note"
Same for tuba
Same for gong, it just says hit it randomly or something like that XD
Timpani part simply says "chaotic"
Same for all brass
Ik I played this and it says play and pick note
We're getting to vote for what we want to play for our last concert, and everyone wants this song because they all have cool parts, except low brass. We play a quarter note every other measure. Sometimes we get 2 eighth notes followed by a quarter note, but that's almost the whole song for us.
We played this in high school...best song and spring concert ever!!! ALTO SAX 🎷🎷🎷
We just played this at our Winter Concert. Symphonic and Concert band killed it! Shout out to Woodside for a great concert tonight c:
My 6th grade band teacher tried to get us to play this lmao. I was the only flute, and we had also no clarinets. Also, we were only in 6th grade and wouldn't have been very successful at it. I could probably play it now, in 10th grade, in fact, I still have the sheet music.
My school played it and alot of us are in 6th grade.
LAARJ GAMING Oh nice. I didn't have too many problems with it at the time but some as a whole we wouldn't have done to well
In 6th grade (beginning band)we played the tempest and then in 7th grade and 8th (Honor band) we played this
What kind of band is that? 1 flute and no clarinets? Hopefully you had percussion at least
@@sarahontiveros9096 the tempest has always been my favorite for years
Sounds like tempest a lot
thats what i was thinking as i listened to this i am playing the tempest in band right now and the start is very similar
They are made by the same composers
it does wow i accidently clicked this and thought i had the right one lol
Tempest is great!
Yeah, the Tempest is meant for younger people and this one for more experienced players.
We had to play this back in 7th grade, the trumpet section( my section) actually stayed quiet and played when they had to, which was a huge surprise.
I got to meet Mr. Smith! He is a very talented person with great music!
There are a lot of clarinet and sax lovers in here... Can I get some trumpet love?
nope
bassoon FTW
I play the Sax (Tenor) and enjoyed playing this song, I would respect the trumpets and when I first started playing music, I would've gone for either the Sax or the Trumpet
Yassss hello 1st trumpets in da hous Gurl.....
Yup! First trumpet here
Trumpets 4 lyfe
I played this song last year and it was so hard! Anyone else a flute?
me!
I'm in middle school and we killed it. We got a standing ovation
I love that I’ve found this recording over ten years later. I first heard this when I was in high school in 2007. I’m going through a phase right now. Alcoholism 100%. I litteraly just stuffed my finger down my throat 60 seconds in so I could listen to this and remember for it how it was for me back then.....
Why would you get rid of some poor bass clarinetist's only chance at a solo?
No kidding
I played the solo on bass clarinet and loved it
i wish i played bass clarinet on this because it looked easier and i only started playing bass clarinet this year
Kelley Koyayesva :3 bass clarinets rock #bcb rock on
Firelordwolffang 1st chair symphonic band of hs level recent song we played christmas at the movies polar express and this is halloween and someother :3 you should listen to it
I know! How lame! I had my solo removed as well when I played back in the day. Grrrr
very beautiful piece!
Preformed this in high school 17 years ago. It was one of my favorite shows we did.
Played lead trumpet for this piece in HS 26 years ago and it was my SHIIIT.. Still gives me chills and can still remember the taste of the brass from my horn.
Trumpets for life
I am one of 2 guys playing a flute in the school district. I enjoy playing the flute, but I have a horrible band teacher who said that flutes r not even real Instruments
+The Derpy Llama HardimanLlama wow, that su ks. I could never imagine ours saying that.
Alto i play
+McFlurryTheFurry
YES! LOW BRASS WOOP WOOP!
All instruments rule honestly in this song. But trumpet a bit more :)) XD
I've never known RWS to be a very percussive inclusive composer. Not the basic percussion anyhow (snare, timp, bass.) He's very good about aux and his mallet and bell parts are very beautiful. He definitely loves the toms, I've learned that much in the last few years.
I loved it😊😊😊😊 I am in an orchestra and I'm going to play it😊😊😊 and I'm going to do my best🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙋
J.W. Mitchell High School played a version of this piece for our halftime show. It was awesome to preform this during my freshman year
this piece is hella hard for the flute's ima kms
right😭😭
hahahakys tons of respect to the flutes, I could never do it
hahahakys it's hard for the marimba too
hahahakys yea I can do it but so much counting and breathing too much I play the flute btw for all of yallz
It's not that hard really
First clarinet! :D I really loved playing this, It took me a while to actually get the melody for some reason but I finally got it! The only part that was somewhat difficult for me was near the end when the strings end their part around 3:35 - 3:58
i am not first clarinet but my friend is and he sowed me his music and i couldn't play it it was hard enough playing 2nd and 3rd parts on this
The timing is what threw us off back in the day.
The melody seemed off beat.
Dongsa well you got to think if u have a strict teacher like me you would of done alot better
I played this in middle school and It reminds me of how I loved our music program. Such a great song and good memories.
my son is a trombonist and played this his freshman year for his spring concert and it sounded amazing.
My high school band is doing this piece and I'm on the tambourine and I get yelled almost everyday, this piece better be worth it for our concert tomorrow!!
Cool, I love playing the tambourine!
Timpani all the way
Shooosh xp
You know you love my comments
How'd it go?
I love the trumpet solo at 2:08
Played this in high school for Viola. I loved it.
Man this brings back memories. First year band song.
FRENCH HRON ALL THE WAY TO THE END my band is playing this for spring concert #1stfrenchhorn
I love Robert Smith's works, although they are all really similar, almost as if his portfolio is all one giant symphony.
Played this my 8th grade year. I loved it! Some of the orchestra even joined us for it!
This piece is hawwwtt asf! THOSE WOODWINDS AND BRASS 😍😍😍
loved the clarinet solo near the begenning it was the only easy part
Pictures from Google and bing lol
I thought I was the only one that found that funny lol
They say bing but Google is better
raquel kelly agreed, bing can be frustrating
Geez, I remember when I played this song last year. As a flute player, it was hell
That trumpet solo makes me wanna cry, it makes me think about life and it's so beautiful😢
Y'all talking about how you flutes and clarinets have it bad. Take a peak at the alto sax music! I had no idea my instrument trilled that high 😂
+Christian Stacy AMEN! Alto sax, 6 years from 7th-12th grade. This piece will always be a beast.
This piece was actually really fun to play despite having to sit through numerous rehearsals with that loud drum near my ear(lol). We actually performed the piece in the gym since the last piece of the concert involved all three grade levels(this was in middle school, last year), which ended up making it a real (sweaty!) exercise.
That middle section was especially nice to play, overall a great piece.
I can't get over how cool the flute line is 😍 I'm so glad we're playing this in Wind Ensemble!
OMG this brings back sooo many good memories
I loved playing this
Sounds a lot like "Incantations" with a hint of "Kronos"...love it
Khiara Hughes and lots of tempest in there
GOD this is a pain in the ass for my Oboe. And i really pity the flutes. Heck, we're only in advanced band (8th-7th)
yes you bet, I play the flute and i'm going to play this song next concert, When i run out of air, there is no place to breathe, i mean theres really not a single fucking place where i can breathe
i play flute and i would love to play this song we are playing the tempest in band right now i love almost all of his music
we started playing this song now too and that is what be and the other flutes do
we have to play the f an octave higher than the top line of the treble clef and a am still working on it because it sounds really shaky when i play it
I have to completely agree
