- "Look Away" is the name of a song written by Diane Warren. It was recorded by the band Chicago for their 1988 album Chicago 19, with Bill Champlin singing lead vocals. When released as a single that year, the song proved successful, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in December 1988, their last song to do so. "Look Away" was the seventh of eight number ones on the Adult Contemporary chart. The single also yielded the band's most successful year-end singles ranking, #1 on Billboard's 1989 year-end Hot 100.
The song was uncharacteristic of earlier Chicago hits in that it did not prominently feature horns. This song was also the band's first number one hit of the eighties that wasn't sung in a tenor voice. Some members of the band have stated when they would play the song live, the audience would just look confused because they were unfamiliar with the sound of Champlin's voice.
"WHEN WE BOTH AGREED AS LOVERS
WE WERE BETTER OFF AS FRIENDS
THAT'S HOW IT HAD TO BE
YEAH, THAT'S HOW IT HAD TO BE"

Chicago 19 the soundtrack to my jr and sr years of high school 1988-1990.
Bill Champlin, originally from the Sons of Champlin. Great jazz/rock fusion band from the 60's. My brother raised me well.
Good song!
YEAH LOOK AWAY!!!!
This song not only went to #1 on the charts, it was and still is I believe the fastest-charting #1 single of all time. As a result, it was also the biggest song of 1989, being #1 on the 1989 year-end chart despite not even being on the charts that year……
And it sucks. Lol, I don’t know how it charted so high and so fast. I would’ve figured that everyone was sick of Chicago by that point. :)
*Look Away Baby...*

ilove Jason scheff💞💋💕😘
they need to make a version where Peter Cetera sings lead vocals. That would be incredible
Dylan Ice if Jason originally Sang this,it would work
@@aarontrainor9918 Cetera could so sing this version!
I used to think he did sing this when I was younger.
There's a rerecording with Jason and Bill
