    Wonderful info. Subtitles with plants names would be very helpful, I’ll check the transcripts see if names are there. Thanks for info!!

    I’ve been researching weird house plants for weeks… how did I have no idea this plant existed?

    Hi, I've recently just added pings to my Carnivore plant collection, and bought some from you, love them. Just a suggestion for us newbies, it would be great if on your website you would list the maximum size they grow to on the ones you're selling. So hard to tell from pictures how big they get unless your hand is next to them.

      I just added a new photo to the Sarracenia pages to give some better ideas of sizing!

    Pings used to be one of my least favorite carnivorous plant but now that I have 3 from one that split, they're growing on me (no pun intended).

      Thats how it starts, you get one and then two and then you have Ping Fever!

    Time to move my gigantea to a less bright spot :) Is there a reference sheet telling what size pings grow to so I can space them out better?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  11 місяців тому +2

      Ooh that’s an interesting idea - there really isn’t any handy sheet like that! Gigantea can easily grow 6-8” across!

    If pings have such short roots... why pot them in big pots and not shallow ones?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  11 місяців тому +2

      Some can grow longer roots with time but it’s really more about water to soil to dryness ratio! Especially when we have so many plants to keep watered! The larger pots hold water for longer but don’t keep the plants soaking wet. Smaller pots would have to watered far more frequently

      ah ok makes sense. I still don't own one... majority of my plants are succulents so kinda skeptical on owning a ping just yet. I live in florida and in an apartment so gnats are always an issue. So still doing my research on pings for sure 😊

    When old ping leaves brown, wither, and die off are you supposed to remove the dead leaf or leave it on? Does it help the plant to leave it?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  2 місяці тому +1

      We don’t generally remove them unless we are concerned with rot. The leaves don’t come off easily so it’s easy to accidentally hurt you plant if you pull too hard. If we see signs of rot in the collection we will carefully remove old leaves but often we just leave them!

    What do I do when I see mold on my butterwort? I don't have a lot of small flies at the moment, so I put a couple bloodworms on my butterwort. Now it has mold where I put them. What should I do?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  8 місяців тому +1

      That’s totally normal! You can gently scrape off the moldy bloodworm! If it happens really quickly after you place the worm on the leaf, you may need to increase light or airflow to reduce mold

    Thank you for this long form video, Daniela. I always learn something new!!!
    Question, do you not use lights on your plants as an overall cost savings in the nursery? My pings are mostly from you and they live in my Ikea cabinet with constant light (14 hours/day). I know they don’t “need” to go into their dormancy phase but some do no matter what. Could there be longterm benefits for Pings to have some shorter hours of light and go into a succulent phase?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  11 місяців тому +1

      We have a series of grow tents that have lights in them and we rotate plants into those conditions and we do have some lights over some plants but overall we haven’t gotten everything under lights yet. In the old nursery, with the way it was built it was just impossible to get lights over everything. It’s something we’re planning on doing in the new greenhouse but we have to finish other projects first. For us we’d only ever need lights in winter with the rest of the year being so sunny, so it’s a lower priority on our list of projects but it is something we want to do!

      @@California_Carnivores Ah! I see! Cool, cool. By percentage, how much bigger is your overall grow space compared to the old nursery? More space = more plants = more for us to buy! :D
