Definitely bigger pings! My first order mine all died that was a couple years ago. So I ordered again in May & they were so small 😳 I was a bit worried I’d lose them again! It’s been 4 months and they’re looking good so I ordered 3 more 💜 🤞🏼

I have been so scared to get the leaves wet!!!! I am so glad I watched this. Also, I need to replant mine since I have it on Spaghnum moss and perlite. May be why its doin just ok and not awesome. Thank you, this was super helpful.

@@user-ix1ob1hr1b That is one way to do it but they must be protected from drying out or getting too wet. You can put a plastic bag over them as they sit on the medium or put them in a plastic bag on a dampish paper towel too. Just monitor their moisture level and keep them out of direct sun. 🌱
I got my first Ping a couple of years ago. It is so delicate and produces beautiful leaves and flowers, as well as controlling the little gnats that show up when I have a lot of fruit and veggies in the kitchen. I keep it in an East facing window with my African Violets. And I noticed several months ago that there are baby plants under the big one! I am delighted. Thank you for your assistance and providing quality plants.

I think that's a great idea and cheaper to ship weight wise and damage would be much less plus the humidity contained. This vid is a good purchase incentive good job. Luckily I grow a large variety of exotic plants and have all of the essentials ready to pot with.

Love the changes! How often should I repot my pings? I have a gigantea and a gigantea cross I got form you guys several years (??) ago but I've been too afraid to repot them. I feel more confident after watching this video though. The gigantea is enormous, like 8-9 inches across and is actually pushing itself out of its pot. I stuffed long fibered sphagnum moss underneath the leaves to give the roots something to grow into. Should I take off the older leaves that curve down when I repot? Thank you!
Thank you for this, just ordered a couple of Mexican Pings. Don't really have experience with Pings, outside of P. primiflora but that species always dies on me. Wish me luck hopefully I'll have better luck with the Mexican variety.

Do I just use a spray bottle to water every few days so the soil doesn't get too wet? Wondering how I keep the soil from getting too wet when I water a ping.
The soil is very rocky so it tends to absorb the water when you too water into a non draining pot. I use a little watering can and just water a little at a time and watch the soil for absorption
I have ordered a lot of plants from you lately and I have only had 2 die from shipping and potting. They were both bare roots. I love them but I won’t order any more of them. I think the trauma is too much for them. All of my plants that have been potted that I have ordered from you are beautiful and growing well, except the bare root plants.

We have and for us, it isn’t a great choice. It doesnt hold the moisture in an even way that is good on a large scale and we find many of the Mexican or tropical pings dislike sphagnum long term

Is there a trick to getting Pings to bloom? Age of the plant, more light? I’ve had mine (Sethos and Johanna 😊) since 5/23. They are doing very well and growing but so far no blooms.
It can be a bit of a combination; age, species/hybrid, light and food. I’d apply a misting of Schulz cactus fertilizer to the leaves once a month to increase food and then consider if the light may need to be increased!

So it's fine to use pots that are unglazed on the inside? I'm used to Venus flytraps which need fully glazed pots, but I'd rather not restrict myself like that with Pings if I don't have to

It’ll be a little hard to grow that unless you pick a species or hybrid that doesn’t want a dry winter succulent phase. I’d go with emarginata, gigantea, sethos or weser. Then I would but a little pot of live sphagnum to get it started. It’s more rare to get it to grow from dried because

They are such delicate shippers but I planted the leaves that fell off mine and most grew into new plants. Pings are a favorite of mine.

Inglorious Bettas I would leave on any healthy leaves when you repot. You can repot every few years to reduce the minerals built up in the soil!

Let them stay on the leaves and be eaten up by the plant, the exoskeletons will build up but that’s normal and new leaves will grow in.

You can just mist them in the paper towels and they’ll be fine for a long time!
Can you use coconut coir vs peat moss?
We don’t use it for pings because it has too much TDS
Planning to switch to an all-mineral media, 1:1 perlite : pumice to be exact :) will this work?

Can I use coco coir instead of peat?
Coco coir tends to breakdown quickly and contributes a lot of mineral buildup over time in the soil so we don’t recommend it at this time.
