I am one day into Logic coming from Abelton because I want a better way to edit podcasts. Glad I found your channel. Subbed. Would you recommend logic over Ableton for Podcasting?
thanks for this info. The command appears to work correctly on non-strip silenced audio as you show in your video. However, on strip silenced audio, the command we have found works very differently depending on what is selected (which audio regions on a single track in the Arrange window). Sadly, this inconsistency makes the tool far less useful than one would hope for.
I am new to Logic but it seems you can do this more efficiently by setting locators and going to Edit>Cut/Insert Time>Cut Section Between Locators, assuming you want to move up everything on every track
@@aarondowdplaysdrums Thanks again. I am just learning the program now, using the Apple Pro Training book. The sessions they provide for lessons have a lot of tracks. When I actually start using Logic for myself your way will probably be faster for what I will be doing.
@@aarondowdplaysdrums Yes, the book is good, but it misses a lot of good shortcuts, like the ones you demonstrate. (I used to be a motion picture sound editor and used Pro Tools so I Googled Delete and Ripple for Logic and found your video.)
Thanks for this Aaron, super helpful! QUESTION: how can I do exactly what you're doing, but also have logic automatically apply a crossfade to the two new regions? At this point, if I need to delete an ahhh or an ummm in dialogue, doing this sometimes creates an audible jolt in the speaker's performance - a crossfade fixes that perfectly, BUT, can I tell Logic Pro X to simultaneously add a crossfade when performing the Delete and Move too? Obviously, I can add the crossfade manually, but I figured I'd ask, seeing as that would save a stack of time too! Thanks mate!
@@aarondowdplaysdrums Thanks! Yeah, it's for exactly that purpose of blending the two regions so that it sounds natural. Sometimes it is a breath that is present, or even having to edit a sentence midway. If anyone does have a solution or logic hack for this, please share!
So I am on the fence about recording/editing my podcast in multitrack vs one stereo mix file from my Rodecaster Pro. So can I have my channel 1, my co host Channel 2 and sound pad channel, just hig light the area I want to cut out , Delete and Move and it keeps it all synced? Is this the way I should go for a simple husband and wife fun podcast? Or does anyone recommend just editing our podcasts all on one track? I am only like 7 episodes in, so any help and advice would help. I am recording with a Rodecaster Pro by the way.
thank you. Delete and move is a good option for Ripple delete, But I feel delay on play back and it effects on my workflow. Actually I am a new user of Logic Pro.Please Help me. Recently I am using delete time or cut time option in cubase .
I just wish they'd add proper ripple/shuffle editing for more than just deleting. But I suppose doing this is something. Cubase doesn't have proper ripple edit either.. Reaper does, Pro Tools sort of does with shuffle, it can do what's in this video but can also move regions about in relation to the user drag and drop moving other region(s), Not sure about ableton or S1. Ripple editing is very useful. Oh, that's right, Sonar added it as well in one of the last updates before it was bought by bandlab.
Hey thanks for he video.. I having maybe the opposite issue.. I've pasted a bunch of the same 4 bar patterns and wanted it to drop out at a certain point in the middle. When I delete one of the 4 bar sections, it fills in the gap automatically which I've never seen (new to X, not sure if it's new) moving everything to it's left to the right.. I just want the gap!! why is this doing this automatically!?
@@aarondowdplaysdrums Haha, I do actually... I'm just starting out with Logic. I'm using markers, but how do I move the markers to stay in sync with my tracks as I move and delete them? In Final Cut Pro, for example, the markers are attached to the clips and stay with them
@@aarondowdplaysdrums Thanks for the quick reply. Just found your channel and enjoying it. Yes, it WAS mapped to something else, and it gave me a warning, but I thought I had over-ridden that and jammed my key command in there. But it still doesn't seem to work. Weird one.
Shit man my logic has this setting on automatically every time I delete something it scooches it over I actually freaking hate it! I will have to watch this video later to figure out how to turn that setting off
You have no idea how much this just helped me. I'm editing a podcast in logic, on episode 5, and my workflow just got SO fast. THANK YOU.
Thank you so much! This ‘Delete and move’ shortcut is a huge time-saver in Logic Pro indeed.
both Shift F and the Command Tilde have changed my life. Thank you so so so much!
Super fantastic. SO GLAD I found this video. Thank you, Aaron!
Thank you for naming your video this! Such a huge pet peeve when the info you need is 2 minutes after like and subscribes.

Oh my god, this was the thing I was missing! Thanks a bunch and more!

Awesome, glad to hear that!
I love your posts. Thank you.

thanks! what's interesting is that i cant do this by highlighting a region. it only works on marquee selection area.

Sorry for the late response here, try looking at your shuffle settings to see what they’re set to.
You are the absolute best.
I just shared it with 2 other people. Really appreciate it.
How do I turn this off?
Wow! Thanks
Do you know how to get the tempo map to shift with the regions when they shift?
I don’t, but maybe someone else here does. Sorry!

It’s not on by default. My guess is that your shuffle setting is set to shuffle left.

Strange - I've tried doing this with Command-Delete and Option-Delete and it doesn't seem to "take" for those.

Up in the top right right above the timeline you should see "Drag:"
Double check to make sure that is set to X-fade and not Shuffle L.
Going too fast..
My bad, I’ll try to slow down in future videos. Thanks for the feedback!
