I don't know if this is a true story... I hope it is. Legend has it that while Plant and Krauss were rehearsing for this, they stayed over at Plant's house near Kidderminster. One Friday evening, he took her down to his village pub, where they were persuaded to put on an impromptu performance for the locals. Can you imagine how good an evening that would have been!!
she's physically beautiful, has the voice of an angel and plays the violin like a virtuoso, the woman is incredible and paired with Robert Plant creates what can only be described as 100% pure magic. I don't know who had the idea of these two teaming up but what an epiphany. like cornbread and melted butter, they complement each other perfectly.
There is is an interview on here, somewhere, where they explained how when they both feeling desperate about how to put a certain song togetheer, T-Bone explained it to them. And then it worked out for them as well. Sorry I don't have the link to that interview anymore. Alison Krauss is the most decorated woman in the US music business by now. Earned 27 Grammys, so far. (If I'm not outdated.) Mabe some thought: "who ever is Robert Plant?" Hehe.
Alison is one of the most vocally captivating live performers I've ever had the privilege to see.I first saw her when she was basically a kid before she became so famous at Bean Fest on the streets of Mountain View Arkansas.I just stood there in awe ..
I just saw them live on the 17th and they performed this song. I cannot even describe how it felt to hear and see that song live with Robert (Friggin) Plant singing it. Alison Krauss' voice is not of this world. Together they brought me to tears. A visceral response like the one I had is a rare occurrence and can only happen when your soul realizes you are witnesses to something massive. Never, in a zillion years would I have ever thought I would hear that song live, or any song by Led Zeppelin and when it happened, I was overcome. Music that gets into you like this becomes part of who you become, there is a before and after me now because of this... another rare occasion, since usually when people are changed in a split second like this, it is usually caused by trauma, not pure joy, I can only think that becoming a parent in childbirth or becoming a grandparent feels this profound. If you have the chance to catch Sir Robert Plant and Alison Krauss in concert. Go, no matter what, just go, you cannot be disappointed, it is impossible. ♥ btw, today is Robert Plants' 74th birthday. :)
PLease, please please.........................Alison and Robert...................keep recording, the two of you are magicallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll........................I want to hear the two of you together...................I feel you in my genes.....................
Great version of one of my favorite songs! Robert Plant is my #1 male singer & Alison Krauss is my #1 female singer! She has won more Grammys than any other female singer for a reason. T Bone Burnett is the icing on this sweet cake. Great collaboration!
Might've been true when you posted this originally, I don't know. But Beyonce now has 32 while Krauss has 27. That being said, I can't stand Beyonce's packaged and over-produced MOR pop, while I could listen to Krauss all day.
Makes my hair stand up and goosebumps every time I see this .. what a fantastic gaggle of musicians.. the solo almost stole the show . Best version next to the original
Oh no, no 'almost' about it. That solo stole the show. It is one of the most menacing sounds I have ever heard come out of a guitar. Lead guitar at its best, with technical genius used to bring the emotion out of the instrument. Savage sound.
I love how there is almost never any vibrato in her voice when she sings. She does not need to hide the fact that she is a semitone off of hitting the right note, because she doesn’t, she is always pitch perfect!
The banjo hook that runs through the song right from the start is the exact same as the dominant hook in Springsteen's Spirit in the Night. And now that you know that, you can't stop unhearing it whenever you listen to this version. Giggity.
don key shot, in a comment below, says that incredible guitar break is Mark Ribot. Perfect match for the song. All that rough chaos flooding under Alison's pure, sweet flow.
Donny, I think that I misspoke. I think that Robert Plant is doing a great job at letting her be the spotlight singer and him being part of the guitar ensemble. Personal growth I think in his case is the "great job" I referred to.
I'd love to see/hear them do "Battle of Evermore" ...that duet was *made* for them! (sorry Sandy Denny). Then all we'd need is the ethereal Page and Jones mandolin/guitar interplay... 🎼🔊🎧
@Anthony Marks yeahhh...I'm going to agree. I mean, I *do* love Alison's gorgeous voice, and kudos to her for pulling it off cleanly...but there's nothing close to the original studio cut with Sandy.
@@kevinkesterson1806 Thanks! Yep I'd stumbled on it just beforehand...pretty cool to see them do it live. The rotating crew of professional musicians they always employ is impressive...
the guitar solo is by the inimitable marc ribot, studio guitarist extraordinaire and formerly with tom waits. probably one of the top ten guitar players alive today... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Ribot
The boy is phenomenal. He could give Page a run for the money. Of course, having the greatest female vocalist in the world makes you sound better, right?
Nice, I liked it but...(yea, I know) I always thought of this as John Henry’s song with that huge beat that has been sampled sooo many times. I know the original version from 1927 also and appreciate what they did in this video but wish that Zep groove could have been incorporated some how.
some of you may not know... there's **another** very cool, darkish, pretty version- check out A Perfect Circle's rendition of this song (Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's side band). Do it, it's worth it! (think rainy night dark piano) I think you will be *very* pleasantly surprised! 🎼🎹🎧👍
I'd really like to know what RP says to her at the start. ua-cam.com/video/ZaU9JP_W60E/v-deo.html gives a bit more of a clue but, sadly, I can't lip read. I see them in June and pray they sing this or Black Dog.
If you understand Celtic cryptology, you'd understand that this song is not at all what it appears to be. Try reading between the "signs" hill country folks 💞
This song was originally written and recorded by Kansas Joe and his wife Memphis Minnie, a black American husband and wife team, in 1927 about severe flooding that year of the MIssissippi River. It has nothing to do with Celtic cryptology.
Thanks for pointing this out--that 1927 flood was a terrifying event--equivalent to Hurricane Katrina; millions of acres under 20 feet of water for months; armed men patrolled the levees on each side of the Mississippi from Illinois down to Louisiana, because the farmers from the other side might want to break the levees across from them to save their own property by ruining the other side. almost 30,000 square miles....Hundreds, maybe more, poor rural people especially blacks, were left to drown. It's a mystical protest song written from the POV of the black victims, whom no one would come to save.
The band did good, Alison was cute.. But this song is about a levee breaking and flooding , and the devastation. Didn't get the feeling of sorrow and devastation from Alisons singing. The verse at 1:13 seems too upbeat or something. Doesn't feel sad enough.
check out A Perfect Circle's rendition of this song (Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's side band). Do it, it's worth it! (think rainy night dark piano) I think you will be *very* pleasantly surprised! 🎼🎹🎧👍
I don't think Alison Krauss has one rock and roll bone in her body. She does do a great blues rendition of this song. What surprises me is seeing Plant with a guitar in his hand. I'd love to hear Jimmy Page's opinion of Plant's guitar-playing abilities. Krauss and Plant do best when they don't try to sing together. They said themselves they're like oil and vinegar: even though their voices don't mix, somehow they work together. I agree with the first part.Contrast what they do when they try to sing together with Plant singing with Sandy Dennis in the studio version of The Battle of Evermore. There's no comparison. Those two voices blend. These two don't. I really wish Plant would do duets with Ann Wilson. Now that could be special.
I love Alison Krauss, but she is just not a blues singer. This is a bit like watching Michael Jordan play baseball. Why did she think this was going to be a good idea? She is one of the all time best when it comes to bluegrass and country.
Much closer to the original by Memphis Minnie & Joe McCoy. It still pisses me off how many songs Led Zeppelin STOLE and passed off as their own, I barely listen to them anymore - ASSHOLES!

Stephen M. Klevas T-Bone did!

Listening to Alison Krauss sing is like listening to a very happy cat purring. It just makes you feel at ease.

You just can't help but fall in love with ALLISON. So beautiful in every way and talented beyond most I've seen. What a combination
OMG ...from Alisons first note .... heavensent
Robert plant is something else. He's hanging out in the background while AK is front and center, taking control. bravo!
Love her voice. She's serene. They recorded a Great album!
Totally amazing, I wish I could have been in the room for this show!
Miss Krause could sing the phone book and she would still have my undevided attention. Omg
Absolutely the most beautiful sounds on earth right here
Alison and Robert are great but how about the rest of the band?!!! This live performance was head and shoulders above the record.

Just discovering this now. Top 5 if not all time favorite zeppelin track. Ahhh this is so good.
Beautiful voice
The Best of The Best! Period
This song was written/recorded in 1927 by Memphis Minnie. Not written by Page, Plant, etc. Their arrangement yes, but please always honour the source!
Thank you for pointing that out.Love Led Zeppelin but they took credit for a lot of other people's music
And don't forget that Ferrari's are based on the Model T Ford
I love how there is almost never any vibrato in her voice when she sings. She does not need to hide the fact that she is a semitone off of hitting the right note, because she doesn’t, she is always pitch perfect!
The whole ensemble is awesome.
Fantastic performance!

Good voice.

Black Dog is amazing with these 2! I wish I could find them other then CMT Crossroads 🤦🏼♀️

Ya Ya we all know Allison and rob are gods but who the guy playing those licks on electric .Phenomenal guitar playing.
I think his name is T Bone Burnett
the guitar solo is by the inimitable marc ribot, studio guitarist extraordinaire and formerly with tom waits. probably one of the top ten guitar players alive today...

nope, burnett is the guy with the sunglasses who produced "raising sand". the guitar solo is by marc ribot.
The boy is phenomenal. He could give Page a run for the money. Of course, having the greatest female vocalist in the world makes you sound better, right?
Yeah,. he almost stole the spotlight,. but Allison Krauss...her voice was more powerful!
What a show this must have been to witness live.
love this video
Allison is great.
2021 would love for them to do another collaboration together

Oh. My. God.
Alicia is so beautiful!
Marc Ribot is a mad scientist with his guitar solos. Tom Waits knows
He's a man posessed .... I really like his contributions on these.
A stage occupied by living legends.
Damn, good jam
The CD they released doesn't have this excellent work they performed on the CMT special.
Фантастический дуэт!!!
this is out-fuk'n-standing
Haunting version
Scorching 🔥

How can I get this? I tried iTunes with no results! Amazon as well. I would love to have a copy of the song.

Where can I find this as a performance and is it available for viewing outside of videos on youtube?
This was an episode of CMT Crossroads.

John Bonham's grave is louder.
What is this concert called? Is the full show available?
A show called Crossroads. I think they did a 45-minute set. Someone posted the full thing, but the volume on it is set way low.
who is lead guitarist?
Marc Ribot was doinf the fantastic lead guitar work - he isn't pretty, but he sure can play.
Title needs to say 'Live'.

OK - my FaceTube evening is done. That's a hard act to follow.
said and done
Alison Krauss and you have achieved great harmony, but you're still Led Zeppelin, remember what you said Keith Moon.
What nonsense. 🙄 Robert Plant spiritually moved on from Led Zeppelin when he released his first solo album.
yep ..that is all i gots to say
I'd really like to know what RP says to her at the start. ua-cam.com/video/ZaU9JP_W60E/v-deo.html gives a bit more of a clue but, sadly, I can't lip read. I see them in June and pray they sing this or Black Dog.

The vacant look on Plant's face as the guitar player is doing the solo says it all. "Damn, maybe I should have stayed with Pagey." Lol
