  • In today's video, we check out the 12V set-up in this amazing 79 Series Landcruiser owned by Andrew, an auto-electrician by trade and owner of Accelerate Off-Grid Touring. There are a few sound mic issues here and there due to the wind, but we're sure you'll enjoy it anyway!
    Cheers

If only there were more auto sparkies like Andrew around the country! I’ve found down here in Melbourne, good ones are almost a closely guarded secret. If you do stumble across one by luck, they’re too busy to get anything done!

I didn't even know you could run that much power in a motor vehicle! A truely inspiring off-grid weapon! I look forward to see who we chat to next! More B-roll and windsocks on the mics and we should be rockin'n'rollin 🤠👍🏼

Pretty mental hey, but you'd expect nothing less from a bloke who has the number plate "MR12V" haha

Interesting to see what can be done but do most people really need set-ups like these. Great in a motor home or large caravan no doubt.
My power requirement to go bush is to just run a smallish camping fridge a small LED light and perhaps a small shower pump in a bucket.
120ah battery + DCDC charger + Solar blanket + small inline plugin power analyser = all done. (usually leave the 240v charger at home).
Battery box with charger takes up next to no room in ute tub/tray and leaves plenty of room for all other equipment. No roof racks or trailers required.

Most people, I believe, definitely do not need this extent of this setup, however, if one owned an auto electrical business specialising in building 12V systems for off-grid touring, then I can understand the desire to showcase the highest levels of what can be done. Your setup sounds very fancy compared to my first. I had a fridge plugged into a battery pack, which received power via the ciggie and a small solar panel. Nil else. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. ✌🏼

So.... how do you open the fridge if you are using the Anderson's / Cig Sockets / power point under your Redvision screen?

How do you “ dump “ the battery into caravan battery? Just through normal ac charger installed in caravan and plugged into inverter in the canopy?

Nice video, but if I’m honest I was hoping to see more of a showcase of his workmanship. What he has in the set up doesn’t really spread to be anymore than anyone else with a touring set up, only he has more of it. What would have been nice to see if how clean the wiring was under the bonnet or where he ran the cables for example. I’m currently cleaning up someone else’s wiring mess in my 76 series so this video was not what I was expecting.

Has there been an alternator upgrade done? Standard alternator would never supply those 3 DCDC chargers enough current to operate properly

Give it 12 months and about 200 basis points and I reckon they'll be easier to find
