  • Rybelsus basically represents the same medicine as Ozempic. While both treat type 2 diabetes, Ryblesus avoids the need for weekly injections. Both drugs not only reduce the blood sugar and glycosylated hemoglobin or HbA1c, but they also assist in weight reduction.
Rybelsus belongs to a class known as glucagon like peptide receptor agonists. Other medicines in the same family include Trulicity, Victoza and Bydureon and its related Byetta.
The dose of Rybelsus varies from an initial 3 mg each day to a maintenance dose of 7 mg or 14 mg. Fasting sugar levels tend to fall about 25-35 mg while a 5-8 pound weight loss routinely occurs.
Side effects tend to be minimal and not serious. A small number of patients may develop pancreatitis or myocarditis while diabetic retinopathy present at onset of treatment may temporarily worsen. This later condition is thought to occur due to the rapid fall in blood sugar. Patients without preexisting retinopathy rarely experience this complication.
Considering the wide range of treatments beyond metformin for type 2 diabetes, the two drug classes currently in vogue are the glucagon like peptide mimics and the SGLT2 inhibitors that prevent sugar reabsorption by the kidney. Examples include Jardiance, Invokana and Farxiga.

So is it better to take food/drinks after Rybelsus excatly after 30 minutes? Or better take them after more than 30 minutes?

TLDR: Rybelsus is an oral medication for type 2 diabetes that can potentially reduce body weight and may be approved for overweight individuals to prevent diabetes onset or as an add-on medicine for those with diabetes, but it has several potential side effects and warnings that need to be considered.
00:00 💊 Rybelsus is an oral medication for type 2 diabetes, part of the GLP family, potentially reducing body weight by 15-20% and may be approved for overweight individuals to prevent diabetes onset or as an add-on medicine for those with diabetes.
03:55 💊 Take Rybelsus with water before first meal to avoid absorption issues, it regulates insulin, decreases gastric emptying, promotes fullness, and lowers blood sugar without causing hypoglycemia or medication interference.
06:09 📌 Rybelsus can cause weight loss but has warnings for thyroid tumors and requires caution for those with a history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type two, and is not studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis or type 1 diabetes.
08:00 🩸 Rybelsus may worsen diabetic retinopathy and cause pancreatitis, but does not significantly impact incidents in those without a history of retinopathy; reduce certain medication doses, monitor for kidney injury and dehydration, and switch to injectable form if needed.
10:00 🩸 Be cautious when switching from Ozempic to Rybelsus, as it may cause low blood sugar and gastrointestinal side effects, but severe hypoglycemia is rare and the significance of neutralizing antibodies is unknown.
12:38 💊 Women planning to become pregnant should stop taking Rybelsus at least two months before conception, as it may cause harm to a fetus and lead to major birth defects in type 2 diabetic individuals with glycosylated hemoglobin levels below seven percent.
15:14 📌 Rybelsus is not studied in children under 18, may require caution in older patients, and does not need dose modification for renal, liver, or upper gastrointestinal disease, with a long half-life, produced in yeast fermentation, stabilized against degradation, and low absolute bioavailability.
17:57 📉 Rybelsus is a drug that lowers glycosylated hemoglobin and fasting blood sugar, leading to weight loss in patients with inadequately controlled diabetes, but it can delay gastric emptying and change the absorption of oral medicines and is expensive.

Even the 3mg was horrible for me. I was so nauseated I couldn't function, and could hardly eat anything. I'm not obese, and my A1C is 7.1 but my doctor wanted it under 7. I'm 57. Not only did it make my GERD impossible to control, and made me unable to eat much more than applesauce and bananas and toast and almond milk...I definitely had a horrible aversion to any type of protein...I became malnourished while on it, and my hair fell out and my nails disintegrated. I have kidney issues due to damage from endometriosis, and my kidney function worsened while on it. I lost a whole 3 pounds in 6 weeks. Three pounds. NOT worth losing 6 weeks of my life due to being unable to go anywhere or do anything because the nausea was so bad and I was so weak from not eating. It felt like my guts completely stopped working, and it felt like the food was rotting and I'd belch up rotten rot. My blood sugar was better--fasting in the 90s to 110s, but was it because of the medication, or because I was consuming about 400-600 calories a day? Definitely not for someone who has ever had an eating disorder. It felt like a physician approved eating disorder.

Each tablet of RYBELSUS contains 3 mg, 7 mg or 14 mg of semaglutide and the following inactive ingredients: magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone and salcaprozate sodium (SNAC). Does Ozempic contain Salcaprozate? Salcaprozate messes with your gut so the large molecule of semaglutide can get through your intestinal wall and into your blood.
