Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder remains the most prevalent psychiatric disorder. Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder include a sense of unease, dread or foreboding along with excessive, unrealistic worry. Other common complaints of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder include the feeling of muscle tension, impaired concentration, insomnia and restlessness.
Complicating the diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder are irritability, sweating, trembling, headache and gastrointestinal issues. Many individuals seek care for these non-specific somatic symptoms rather than their unrecognized anxiety issues. As a result, they may undergo medical evaluation and receive therapy for their presenting complaints rather than the true underlying causative psychiatric condition.
Further compounding the problem with diagnosis, most of those with Generalized Anxiety Disorder also suffer with a number of other psychiatric maladies ranging from panic attacks to depression and social anxiety disorder. The presence of somatic issues and other psychiatric disorders complicates timely diagnosis and appropriate therapy.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder attacks women twice as frequently as men. Symptoms tend to begin in men in their early 20s while the onset tends to be delayed in women until their late 20s. Another smaller peak occurs in older individuals. African Americans appear more likely to suffer from depression when compared to Caucasians.
Treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy or more customarily an SSRI or SNRI. While the benzodiazepines effectively mute symptoms, these drugs including Xanax, Ativan and Klonipin currently are out of favor with the government and professional organizations. In spite of this patients and doctors alike often favor drugs commonly referred to as “benzos.”

The way my anxiety disorder comes out is like this.
I am sitting in a situation that should be relaxing, a day off, road trip with my family, a nice dinner with my wife or even being at work sometimes. And I cannot help but feel as though something bad is going to happen or that I forgot something or some other nagging feeling. Everything is okay, I should be relaxed, but I am sitting there constantly worried about nothing in particular.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of good treatments for GAD. If you don't respond to SSRIs, you really have few options. Buspirone is hit or miss, doctors don't like to use benzodiazapines. What's left, hydroxyzine? Many patients end up self medicating because they're not getting adequate relief.

Make sure you don't ruin what you got there because I've been trying for so long to get the meds I KNOW work for me and i've had no luck. Also I went over the Prince of Wales bridge from Wales into England months ago....and inside I completely freaked out.....heart rate increased, hands all sweaty...it was AWFUL..and of course I had no choice but to carry on driving..........and this was all because my perception of the bridge was that it was SUCH an OVERWHELMINGLY HUGE site, REALLY TALL AND HIGH..out in the open that my system just couldn't cope with it. Not to down play other issues of everyone in here but I wish my issues were external "worry about going outside or social functions being around other people "or worrying about trivial shit to the point you may have panic attacks. There are still people out here thousands of people who saw or forced to watch a certain movie starring linda Blair in the 70's that totally mind fucked people. I was a little boy forced to watch that shit. And that has become an issue for me even though I know the truth. The what ifs or the could or couldn'ts....no satisfactory answer or certainty. Doctors where I live refuse to prescribe busprion or Ativan type medications. Even though SSRI’s have failed to work for me for years after trying many different ones. I’ve tried them on and off since I was 16. I’m 40 now.
They offered me electric shock therapy sessions instead. I’d rather hold my head under water at this point.

Comorbidity in psychiatry is very common. I have bipolar, panic disorder and probably ADHD. I read a meta-analysis study a while back that said 40% of people with bipolar also have an anxiety condition.

Ime still not right like, up and down. Doc give me lamotrigine, to stable the ups and downs,BEEN on diazepam, and zoplcone, on off, but the lamotrigine did nothing, anxiety cripples, u young or old, it's debilitating,,my parents are more active, than me, and there in there mid seventies,,anyway.ive been prescribed pregabalin, week ago, then does, es go up, its a permanent medication, funny thing is Ken put a video on about pre gabalin,, it was only 15mins long, which is short., for him,, some people I know are on it and say its a good drug for anxiety, it blocks nerve recepters in the brain, which causes pain, and nerves, early days now, then dos, es go up gradually,,ime guna watch the video,, kens view on pregabalin, again, cos he was a bit, qiuet, not like him, ANYONE OUT THERE ON PREGABALIN!!??

The anxiety started at the age of 33 with a panic attack, I have spent 24 years of my life in this brutal suffering, I have tried all the antidepressants, nothing works, only clonazepam helps me a little, my life is ruined, my self-esteem is low. the ground, not even God listens to me, I have tried to brainwash myself by telling myself a thousand times that I should trust, suffering 24/7, nothing makes me happy, I feel hopeless, my doctor doesn't even want to see me, the only hope for me now is to take propanilol to test if you can block the fight or flight adrenaline pattern, this symptom occurs especially in the mornings.
It's not worth living like this, it's too much suffering! bestial!! I would like to do so many things, projects, find a boyfriend, travel, enjoy a simple walk! I want to be happy again, i was athletic, but doesn’t work nothing,,but 24 years of my life have already passed and I am exhausted, I don't know if the doctor has compassion and gives me propranolol at least to see if it works, im dying inside, I don't see a way out, die and rest maybe... ..😞

A lot of doctors claim that it is the most brilliant and effective one without almost any side effect and they also claim that it works very fast and extremely effectively. One of them claimed once that all of his patients who have undergone this treatment are extremely satisfied with the results now. I haven't tried it yet due to the reason that it's a little expensive. Of course, way more expensive than medications. Anyhow, some doctors highly recommend this therapy.
