Thank you for the great tutorial! It's very unusual, and interesting! If you don't mind, we're going to use this for a school project, and try to make it as original as possible! We'll try to give it our own unique touch, just like you gave it yours.
I have done this fold/pattern in 1/2, 1/3 & 1/4. 4 colors, 5 colors & 6 colors. It is a really cool pattern to play with. Thank you for sharing your technique!
I just used your video to help guide me through tie dyeing a tshirt to practice for my mermaid costume and it came out great! Now I have an awesome shirt and I will have a rocking mermaid costume! Thank you so much! You're awesome!! :D : D :D
You, sir, are one talented and creative human being. How did you come up with that? It's nice to see that the Earth still has some form of intelligent life.
I actually followed the instructions in this video to tie dye a shirt. This shirt is a white V neck that has "Sentinel" in purple script vertically down the left front, and a yellow Spartan helmet beneath the vertical script down near the hemline. I wanted to see how well the fish scale pattern would cover that high school logo, making the shirt more wearable. It's difficult to do the accordion folds and banding it in the middle. I broke several rubber bands and ended up tying one rubber band that broke. I did my best. I used 2 colors, black for where the rubber bands were, then brown right next to it, with a white undyed center. After the dye was applied, I lightly folded the plastic I used to protect my bathtub over the shirt, leaving it to cure for 9 1/2 hours. I took the middle rubber bands out first, then worked my way outward to remove the bands on the ends last. While I failed to get the fish scale effect, I was happy with the effect I got. I could sort of see the shape of the scales, but more amorphous. A casual observer would never get fish scales out of the pattern I achieved, but there is a pattern of blobs. Indigo blue was pulled out of the black. So, I did end up with 3 colors after all. What would have been the center of the scales was white, as I intended. It was just a smaller center due to the indigo manifesting and taking up some of that undyed center space. Interestingly, the brown color stayed true. In other words, I ended up with a lighter black, true brown, indigo, and white pattern. I don't know how the indigo blue didn't affect the brown color, but it didn't. There is more white as the eye moves from the hemline (which has the most dense patterning) up to the neck and shoulder seams (less dense patterning). The shirt is rinsed, and, although it's 3:30 in the morning, 40F degees, I hung it outside to drip. Thanks for a fun project idea, ColorfulSteve. I look forward to trying it again, learning from this experience
Quality tie dye videos :) its hard to find one with the whole process from start to finish, especially of the more complicated designs. The smiley face video helped a lot with developing my idea for making a alien :) thanks so much for the time you put into your videos!!!
Some advice for you, for your future videos, don't get in front of your lighting, as in parts of this video portions of the shirt are so dark for one to see, also try making your video a bit brighter. It's a little on the dark side.
I would aabsolutely do this project! in my own preferd colour choices of course. the purple and blue are nice, though I wouldnt have put green as the final colour.
+Al Funcoot okay but if you fold something in two you are going to double the sections. He folded in half then half again. If he had folded the sides and they did not meet the other he would've gotten 3rds
I love your bracelets!!! What do they say? Oh, and thank you for the very helpful tutorial and helping me understand that I need to put more dye up top where the sleeves are!! My shirt turned out great!
i was a bit sceptical of the design but then i saw it and it actually looks pretty cool! kinda reminds me of a turtle ahell with the white peaking through
you can order dye online, of course, but when we get the time we're going to get ours at the art supply store (the good stuff seems to average about $3.99 for a 2.3 oz jar per colour). we screenprint, so we have a wholesaler we get shirts through (just in the research part of this right now). anyway, you should be able to get a basic kit from walmart if you want for about $15, i think. it's not great, but it looks as if it'd work.
Wow! That turned out so great! So after you open it up, do you let it dry and then wash it? Rinse it? How do you set the colors or are they already set. Also, so you presoak your shirts in soda ash?
I dont get why everyone is criticizing him he folded three times. I don't care if he said thirds he did a good job. I'm sure if you were making a video you might mess up wording also. It happens so grow up and get a life instead of making fun of his and something he is proud of.
Check out Dharma trading company for your dyes, they have really good dyes. they also have good fixative to set your dye with as well I get my soda ash and everything from them
Hi, your tutorials were really good and this fish scales design was the best for me. But would you mind to make a tutorial on how to make the shirt that you're wearing in this video? I hope you'll see this and response...or even not just make the tutorial. Thank you and hope you'll make more tutorials about dyeing shirts or any stuffs. 😉👊
Great job, but you could use a different light source. When you would be working on the folding you couldn't see because your shadow is overpowering everything. Thanks for the video.
Amazing! Was wondering if you would be willing to try a puzzle piece pattern?? My 4yr old daughter has autism and April is Autism awareness month. I have seen shirts available online for purchase, but thought that it would be a fun project to do with her if only I knew how.
Awesome creation! I worked with a Dead Head about 20 years ago, he made me a tye dye lightening bolt shirt, which was the real lightening bolt..How was this possible?
I don't know if someone has asked this already, but should the rubber bands be rather tight on the tshirt or is it just suppose to hold the shirt in place? Sorry, my question probably doesn't make sense.
Even though shirt is folded into quarters (not thirds) it's an awesome job! Love it.
I'm in shock at how so many ppl don't understand exactly what you did. Couldn't have done a better job at showing this awesome technique. Thank you!!!
thats by faaaaar the best tie dye tshirt I have ever seeen. you're brilliant
Turned out so good!! Mine doesn't look like his result but even cooler!! I couldn't be happier with my results. Thank you!!!
Honestly ppl need to correct everything! Holy hell relax and dye! Wicked job mon! I'm trying tonight thanks for the tipz
If you wanna be a goldfish
Black instead of purple
Yellow instead of blue

Thanks random dude

Thank you, random dude.
Thanks for the videos! I wanted to do a different tie due pattern than everyone else in my junior chemistry class and I found my design!

The end result was amazingly beautiful! Thank you for the video.

I was short on time, so I turned off my sound and put it on 2x speed. I was able to follow you the whole way.
Good job!

Best tie-dye shirt on UA-cam! Thanks
A lot of whiners and complainers in the comments on this video. I understood perfectly fine and I am so trying this. Thanks for the video.
I love this!! I'm definitely trying it this summer!! :D
I'm gonna use it for the first day of school
+Kra88yPa77y royalgazzet
Very cool! thank you for taking the time to teach us your technique, can't wait to try it out!
I saw this video last night and tried it today! Can't wait to see it tomorrow all dried up!
its like the tangle patterns "fish scales" and tie dye had a baby
Ok I thought this was gonna be a hot mess but this turned out awesome! Very cool!

this is a tutorial.....not a damn service to the public..
A tutorial IS a service to the public. FYI.
Darguin Ruiz LOL! Thanks for your "public service" I really enjoyed it
That shirt is on the dark side of the force
nice design
OMG you are really good at tie dyeing things I actually did tie dye with my family yesterday the shirts came out really good!
i have watched every single one of ur tied dye videos there amzing thank you so much and please make more
I would aabsolutely do this project! in my own preferd colour choices of course. the purple and blue are nice, though I wouldnt have put green as the final colour.
What colors would you choose?
folding in half, then in half again would make quarters, not thirds.
exactly. maybe he meant 3 times?

It is code. Lettuce sea.
Thanks, I'm doing this design for my chem class! Your folding was unclear but I got it in the end! I can't wait to see how mine turns out :)
That is sick, I am so making one lol
Nice pattern. Love the color combination as well.
I love your bracelets!!! What do they say? Oh, and thank you for the very helpful tutorial and helping me understand that I need to put more dye up top where the sleeves are!! My shirt turned out great!
Thanks man! Loved the video ! And in my opinion , proportion wise I do believe the shirt was portioned off into thirds!
Steve? You make AWESOME shirts.
that's just beautiful,, I can't wait to try it for myself, thank-you for sharing(:
👏👏👏👏cool!!! I want a T-shirt made like that but I'd make a big mess!! 😆good job 👍
OMG!!!! THAT"S AMAZING!!!! i went throu ur whole video and i thought it would turn out bad, but it looks soooooooo cool!
you suppose to whap it with cling - wrap or plastic bags for a day or so before take the rubber bans off.
WHOA!!! SUPER. WOOULD LOVE TO SEE ANOTHER COLOR COMBO. lOVE IT! THANKS FOR THIS.
Half then half again is really in quarters BUT that's OK it still works.
DrHillbillyShow
i get so excited during the "unveiling" 🥰😁
really nice, great clear instructions also, thanx for your generous sharing.
Hello, It has many beautiful colors and patterns.
If you made more little triangles in the beginning would it make smaller scales?
I bet it would. I may try folding in half once more, which would make eighths, then tying. Good idea :)
May not look as good if the fabric is thick, though. Because it's hard to accordion fold 16 layers of fabric that are like 3 inches wide.
i was a bit sceptical of the design but then i saw it and it actually looks pretty cool! kinda reminds me of a turtle ahell with the white peaking through
this is really cool! I make mermaid tails, and this would look super awesome for a tail print. thanks!!!
Excellent. I like. Thank you for showing how to do this one.

WOW so so so beautiful !!!
Awesome. Gonna do this one after work tonight.
Phil

That would be awesome as a pineapple shirt 🍍
Thats soooooooo beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Congratulations! Enlightening video and beautiful work!
Gorgeous design!
You're a tye dye king

"Close enough"
What's ur problem
😂
Thats awesome!! would look cool to use pineapple colors 😁
I dont get why everyone is criticizing him he folded three times. I don't care if he said thirds he did a good job. I'm sure if you were making a video you might mess up wording also. It happens so grow up and get a life instead of making fun of his and something he is proud of.
Wow it's beautiful!!!
I like your tablecloth!
Thank you now I get to test out how to do this on bedsheets.
I miss this channel
That's awesome! Now to go buy some dye and a few shirts... I will mess this up.
I absolutely love that design!

Rachel Timler
Rachel Timler r
Rachel Timler no quarters
Wow your so talented☺😀😁😄
0:13... How is that thirds??? You folded it in half and then in half again.
I was thinking exactly that!!
Jeremy! I love your origami, but agreed. That is definitely quarters!
agree, if he placed the scales strategically (on the chest area) you could call the design bikini style
Yeah how is that thirds?you folded it 4 times
He meant thirds cuz he folded it three times....
hi may i know what brand of dye powder of what kind of dye you use. the one i use looks faded
thankyou
Check out Dharma trading company for your dyes, they have really good dyes. they also have good fixative to set your dye with as well I get my soda ash and everything from them
That is the coolest thing EVER!!!
Beautiful result! 🙌👏🙌👏🙌👏🙌👏 👍
difficult to see the rubber band step because of shadows. had to watch several times
I love your videos! They're so easy to follow :) thanks! Also I love your kandi ahh
I like the videos you make I'm learning different ways to tie dye designs thanks bro (:
nice job. I think I will try it. I am going to make the purple a little wider and hope I don't screw it up.
OOOOO!....I absolutely LOVE IT!! Gr8 work...thanks.
Great job, but you could use a different light source. When you would be working on the folding you couldn't see because your shadow is overpowering everything. Thanks for the video.
Great easy and beautiful nice job
Amazing! Was wondering if you would be willing to try a puzzle piece pattern?? My 4yr old daughter has autism and April is Autism awareness month. I have seen shirts available online for purchase, but thought that it would be a fun project to do with her if only I knew how.
Legal, adoro fazer , gosto de cores.
If you wanted more scales would you make the lines closer or fold the shirt more?
That's really awesome but did you mean to say 1/4?
Neat! I’ll be sure to wear this when I go surfing
I think it looks good I can see just fine
I'm a tie dyer such as yourself, and I was just wondering. what brand of dye do you use? I must say, the colors on your shirts really pop.
OMG that is awesome! Giving this a try the next time I get my dyes out! :)
Awesome creation! I worked with a Dead Head about 20 years ago, he made me a tye dye lightening bolt shirt, which was the real lightening bolt..How was this possible?
That's so genius of you 🙌🏼👈🏼
THAT WAS ROCKING! I'M DOING THIS.
Super rad! I love it!!
love this. it reminds me of a mermaid tattoo I plan on getting soon.
I don't know if someone has asked this already, but should the rubber bands be rather tight on the tshirt or is it just suppose to hold the shirt in place? Sorry, my question probably doesn't make sense.
That was really cool and he used my favorite colors
That was pretty COOL!!
Would the design look just as cool if I only use two colors? I bought Fushia and Black.
