I have been waiting the whole day to watch this. So now I have my glass of wine, and my blanket and it’s chill time with Mr Tie Dye. Enjoy everyone
Sounds wonderful 🙏✌🏻
That. "the show's over " thing cracks me up!!! Love this entire video. so glad you added the reverse dye tshirt too.
Glad you liked it!! ✌🏻
I REALLY like the black lightning! great inspiration!
Hot Dang! The Lightning! Most awesome!! Thank you!
You are welcome 🙏
That's really slick. Cool Design and colors.
thank you ✌🏻
dude this is sick i just learned so much thank you
Glad to hear it ... and you are welcome ✌️
You got me! LOL! I said, "where'd he gooooo" LOL

Good looking shirts! I like the blue one the best! It’s so pretty!! ❤️🌈
Wow never saw the dry erase crayons. Can’t wait to buy these.
I use Washable Markers for white tees and I use Dry Erase Crayons for the black tees .... I am not sure how the dry erase markers would work ✌🏻
@@MrTieDye my blunder I means crayons not markers and I’ve ordered the crayons. I’ll fix my comment.
Hi Carl!!! So excited to see you 🤩.🌈☮️💕
Yay! Thank you!
I had to do a version of this. After I washed it, I went out to hang it up. Clouds had gathered, (after weeks of hot, dry weather) and I heard thunder. It began to rain, so I brought it in to dry. Nice coincidence!🙂
Hay Mr. I've really learned just about everything I know for you and continue too. My whole family is creative with painting and singing. But not me. I'm heavy handed and I can't sing at all. So when I found you and tie dye I felt more like my family was my family. Like everyone in your family has dark hair and dark eyes but you've got blonde and blue. You know what I mean. Just a tiny bit like that.
I hear you... nice to find your nitch ... and funny you should mention the blond blue eye thing... that's me in my family lol
I like your design and explain very very nice thanks again 👍
you are Most welcome 😊
Wow- they came out amazing!!
Thank you!! ✌🏻
G'day Mr T. Mate thanks very much, your a fairdinkem legend. I love your work. I am new to tie dye and I am happy to have found you. Your a good bloke and you explain things very well. I am a retired butcher and the use of string is great for me. I have just completed the oval cortex one and I'm excited to do a lightening one now... Thanks Again. :-) From Australia if you have a hard time with how I talk...
Happy to see you!!! These are AWESOME!
good to be seen and you are welcome ✌🏻🙏
That is incredible!!!
I liked your channel when I first started looking up UA-cam videos on how to tie dye....
But I don't think I knew exactly how to hit that notification bell...
Glad I figured it out and realized that I needed to fix that. 😉

Absolutely love your channel and videos tutorials!!!!
Thanks so very much for sharing your incredible creative talent with us!!!
Thank you so much 😊 and you are welcome
I really love how that turned out!!
thank you
Thank you. My 10 year old loves the dye and he asked if we could do it on spring break. So I bought up a storm of all the nec. Your tutorials are great. You have can great ideas on how to do what we want. Been binge watching all your shows. I especially love how you give tips on what colors NOT to do together. Saved us many times. Aiming towards 10k hours outside. This has been an amazingly fun art project for us. So thanks for your guidance. Any tips on how to set the color?
You are welcome... I love to help others have fun and success with this art ... as for setting the colors... I use Procion Dyes and the soda ash that I soak the 100% cotton tees in is what activates the dyes... then time and or heat will set the dyes ... I leave mine to 'Batch' (sit with dye on them) for a minimum of 24 hours at 70F, but I prefer to add a little bit of heat and leave them to sit for 48 hours ... I batch mine in tubs with lids so I can move them around easily ... in the winter, I set them near a heat vent and in the summer time, I set the bins out on the shed roof in the sun
Here is my Beginner Playlist, it has many videos that are helpful when starting out in this art :

the 5th video in this list, I talk about how to improve your colors ... I hope you find this helpful ✌️
Awesome design. Glad to see another great video of yours!
Thank you very much! 🙏🥳🙏✌🏻
I was wondering about gathering your pleats by basting it with thread which would keep the pleated assembly flat and aligned.
I have not tried it with just basic pleating like this... BUT, I do Stitched Designs so I can get even more detail into my designs .... I think it would work fine, but it also takes more time to stitch ... give it a try and see how it works for you

I use one cup of soda ash powder and mix it with one gallon of warm water ... here is a video to show how I mix it or make it :ua-cam.com/video/vD1MSB0sAY8/v-deo.html
@@MrTieDyethank you very much!!! By the way, you are doing an amazing job, really inspiring.
They’re all beautiful, Carl! That’s such a good idea to tie a knot at the end of the sinew. I’ve had a few shirts where my end some how mixed in. It’s a pain to take off the sinew when that happens. Takes so much time to try and remove it carefully without cutting a hole through the shirts.
thank you and you are welcome.... yeah I had one too many times of my sinew getting tangled and then trying bit by bit to cut it with a seam ripper .... a Knot works great!!
@@MrTieDye I didn't see how you secured your sinew at the end before you tied this handy knot.
Can the same effect be achieved with elastic bands? I'm an absolute beginner, and any answer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!😊
yes you can, make sure they get wrapped really tight... also, it will help keep the white if when you get ready to dye the tee, add some plain water to the banded area... if it is wet with plain water, there is less of a chance of the dye soaking in there... also, do not add dye directly over the lightening bolt area ✌️ .... I do it with the sinew, but the sinew is pulled much tighter than you can get the bands on there 😉 Have fun and I wish you success!!

I love the lightning, but maybe I would not have gone over it with the black. Would have loved to have seen it just with the cobalt and purple mixed through the light blue. Interesting, no?
Thanks for these videos, I love them. FWIW, if you want to pour water onto the bleach gently, you can pour onto a spoon. PPl say onto the back of a spoon; I never do. I pour into the bowl, and let it take all the force out of the pour and then it gently lands on your product. :)
Thanks for the info!
Wow, Carl, I loved all of the shirts. I like your method of scrunched pleating as I don't think I've tried that yet. It's good to see you back again. Have you practiced the pleated spiral yet? I need to master that technique for more beautiful spirals. Thanks for entertaining us
Thanks so much and you are welcome .... yeah I have not worked on the pleated spiral yet... one of these days ... just playing with my inspirations right now as they come to me ✌🏻🙏
Gran amigo! Buenas noches!
Where did u buy the big bottles of dye

and if you are just wanting to know about the bottles themselves, I bought the larger bottles from Dharma ✌🏻
Why do you dry the soaked shirts I thought you were supposed to dye the fabric while its damp with soda ash do you get better results by drying a few days?
there are many ways to dye the fabric... once the fabric is soaked in the soda ash, the pH level is there whether you keep it damp or let it dry ... most times I do fold, tie and dye while the tee is barely damp with soda ash ... BUT, if I have folded a mandala type fold where I have many layers of fabric, or have tied it very tightly with sinew, then I like to leave it to dry some ... when there is a slight bit of moisture in a tee and, then you stack several layers together and then you tie it tightly, that slight bit of moisture will 'block' the dyes from reaching the fabric ... the fabric can only hold so much liquid, once it is 'full' then the rest of the liquid will just over flow... SO, if you have soda ash liquid trapped deep within the layers of fabric, the dye will not be able to soak in there, so then you will have white spots
so, with this design, I was tying parts of it tightly, so I let it dry some so I would get better dye penetration/saturation
so for me, I just go with the flow of things and how they work.... the only 'Rule' I know of when tie-dyeing with Procion Dyes, if there was a rule, is you must have cotton(or other natural fiber), dye and soda ash all together before you batch the tee or tapestry as the soda sh activates the dyes... I hope this helps ✌🏻
Thanks so much! I knew you could do it!
you are welcome 🙏
You're a Good desire, MrTieDye!! So what colors did Max Dennison put on his old Pattern with The chest to mixed up above the Bullseye. And did he has Deep Purple or Nightshade on the top and Bright Green or Forest Green on the middle.?? 😀😊👈
I do not know what Max used 😉✌🏻
That is totally insane 😇💚✌
Have you tried to do a paw print with tye dye?
yes I have, here is a video for it : ua-cam.com/video/00W6cnY_cXg/v-deo.html ✌🏻
Yay lightning bolt!!!
✌🏻
Love this video! I love that you did both white AND black. I have a question, what happens if you don't let it dry after bleaching before adding color? Thanks for the great content!
Thank you 🙏 and you are welcome .... as for the drying thing, that just makes for better saturation when I have things tied tightly with sinew .... so not letting them dry may just mean there is a bit of tee that does not get dyed .... but this can also be part of the pattern... sometime Is do dye it damp and have the extra color in there.... so it is good either way... just know what you want and go for it
Been trying to do a 13 point GD lightning bolt...inside a circle dyed 1/2 red 1/2 half blue with a white bolt in the center. Because it is not a symmetrical shape, it's been a challenge. Have you ever tried one?
the only Bolts I have done were with Stitching, I do not have a video for it, but I do have one for the method used : ua-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuqTQ-6ymm5OcVb5jlv7oplr.html

Hi which dye do you use
I use Fiber Reactive Procion Mx Dyes. I buy most of mine from Dharma Trading Company, these are Professional Dyes and are long lasting. They work on natural fibers such as Cotton, Rayon, Bamboo, Hemp, Linen, and Silk.
Here is a video on how to mix the dyes: ua-cam.com/video/3Fj289T6BVg/v-deo.html
These are the base amounts to start with, personally, I use 5-6 tsp for 16 oz of dye.
here are the main places in the US to buy them :

Hello
I don’t have a lot of expérience
The dye you just mixed it with wather?
Since the t-shirt has already soda ash?
yes, the dyes are mixed with just water and the tee is soaked in soda ash ... if you mix the soda ash into the dyes, then they are active and will only last for a couple hours before they will not work.... so I use soda sh just on the tees

Can you do this with just regular dyes? Or do you have to use the soda ash and special dyes?
you can do this with whatever dyes you like... I use Procion Dyes because I love the bright colors I get from them...
Carl, have you tried this technique starting with a white shirt and leaving the lightning bolt undyed (white)? My brother-in-law has asked for a version with his team's colors, black, purple and white, so I am hoping to leave the sinew area just white. Do you think that will work? Thanks a bunch.
yes I have, so instead of adding the light turquoise over the tied area, I put plain or thick water over it to hold the white space... so yes, it will work... have fun!!
@@MrTieDye Oh yeah, I didn't think about thick water - great idea. I'll give it a try. Thanks so much.
Wow, looks great Carl! Any chance that could be done nearly as well ice dyed?
Thank you and yes they look awesome ice dyed, I did a couple that way years ago .... I laid the dye in a similar manner, putting the lite color over the sinew and a little around the tee... then ice and then some darker colors over the ice.... but that is me.... I am sure you have some ideas... have fun!!
@@MrTieDye Awesome, I may try that! I really like the sort of "crackled" look you got from yours as I've not ever been able to do that so you've given me ideas. Like the way all of those came out and will try some myself with powder and ice to compare. Thanks!
Why does it need to try? Can I skip that and do it damp?
sure... I let it dry as it seems to get me better saturation, but the second one I did turned out fine and I only let it dry part way 😉
@@MrTieDye Thanks!
I'm curious why you let it dry? I was under the impression that if it dries, and/or becomes cold, the Soda Ash deactivates.
I let it dry for better saturation ... and no the soda ash does not deactivate... once you have soaked the tee, you are good with the soda ash... it can be hot or cold or dry and it will still work... the soda ash raises the pH level of the tee, that is what activates the dyes.... so once the dye comes into contact with the soda ash, it activates and if it is on cotton, then it starts to form a chemical bond ... heat will speed this process up, or time will do it...
I like to have both heat and time, so I batch for 48 hours and add heat to the process by stacking the tubs with lids (you do not want the dyes to dry out or they stop bonding, that may be what you were mis told) near a heat vent, or out in the sun : ua-cam.com/video/SvhwNQbhZJA/v-deo.html
@@MrTieDye Aaah, yes that may be what I read. Thank you for your response!
Mr. TieDye what was that I heard that who says "Can I Just Twist or I Could like Fold it on the Mandala" so who is this person From UA-cam direct. And did you put with Cobalt, Turquoise, Deep Purple, and Black.
I am not sure... what is the time stamp so I can go back and listen??
Are your dyes thickened? I lost control with the liquid dye.🙁
not now... I used to work with slightly thickened dyes, but now I just use regular dyes, unless it is the black I use for outlining, then that dye is thickened and here is how I make thick water for really thick dyes :ua-cam.com/video/imaTXWdNJTo/v-deo.html
but, if your dyes are getting away from you, you can thicken them just a little bit to slow their spread ... I do not remember my exact recipe, but I made a LOT of dye water at a time when I dyed everyday ... I used 5 tbsp of alginate in 5 gallons of water ... plus salt and urea, I think 4-5 cups of each.... mix it the same way as the really thick water... HOT water and mix the Sodium Alginate first, make sure it is completely blended before adding anything else, I let mine sit for a bit and then came back and blended it some more... then rub some between your fingers ... it should feel smooth... any lumps means it needs more blending .... and you could make a smaller amount ... this mix would go bad after sitting for a couple months... that is why I stopped with the slightly thickened dyes ... I hope this helps ✌🏻
@16:02 - Lol, we are still very much here 😄
🤣🤣🤣🥳✌🏻 good to hear ✌🏻💚
I like the speed of the second half of the video. Maybe do two cuts one slower and one faster. Love love you work but the first part is a little slow for me because I’ve watched and have done tie dye like your showing. Some you tubers do that😁. I don’t know if you mentioned that you can only bleach polyester blends and cotton. Versis tie dyeing on white should be all cotton to keep vibrancy. Thank you and keep our great creations coming.
Ok thanks ... editing is not my specialty, so I just do the best I can... but it does take a lot of time .... and yes 100% cotton is best, but not the only choice... as for discharging, I have not had much luck with removing color from polyester, but I will try some blends and see what I can do with them, thanks!
@@MrTieDye from experience what works for tye dyeing is opposite for taking color out..I soaked a 100%cotton in bleach for 24 and no difference.
@@MrTieDye also I’ve noticed hardly anyone is mentioning the importance of the blend of shirts.
I love your videos but it’s too slow. Good for beginners but I’m assuming one beginners video is good. I feel I miss out because o fast forward. I really want to watch all of your video. Just an opinion. Maybe put it out there and see what others think ? I don’t want to give you the wrong opinion o do love your work. I’ve been tye dyeing and sharing with many for 1/2 a decade. First was on the back yard ritz I was about 9. Since then I’ve taught at leader 100+ how to do it and now I’m going to do thick water, needle nose bottles, dharma dye etc. My favorite beaching is blue shirts. They are the best.
I dont get it, what is a ceniu, that is how it sounds, but havent hear it before, can you write down, and yes I am not US citizen
it is called Sinew, but really what we use it is an artificial sinew.... a polyester waxed string that is very strong, it is use in many crafts .... but in tie-dye, you can pull it tightly to block the dyes from getting to areas of the tee and the waxiness of the string will lock on itself when pulled tight enough ... I buy mine from Dixie : www.dixiegunworks.com/index/page/product/product_id/3340/product_name/MI0310+Artificial+Sinew+-+70+lb.+8oz.+Spool+-+300+Yards

@@MrTieDye Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
Beautiful
Im having trouble with some of my dyes separating after ive mixed them , am i using too much dye ? Or not mixing it enough? Ive cut the mix in half but its still separating . Im totally lost and youve helped me before , i knew youd know the answer . Can you help me ? Please ... thank you very much ! We love your channel and your creations !
when you say dye separating... do you mean settling in the bottom of the bottle?? I know lemon yellow does this .... this usually means the dyes have not dissolved all the way .... mixing them with Luke warm water can help them dissolve better....
as for the amount of dye powder.... dharma recommends 4 tsp for 16 oz of dye, I use 5-6 tsp for 16 oz for most colors and 10-12 for black ..... so I do not think that is your issue... unless you are using more than what I listed here
I would try the warm water and blend it more... then I pour mine though a fine mesh filter (different than the strainer I show in my dye mixing video, I got a better one) this catches any of the un-dissolved dyes... when I pour mine though this filter, if there is very much dye left in the filter, I tap it back into the dye mixing cup, add more Luke warm water and blend some more.... the goal for me is to pour the dye through the fine mesh filter and have no residue left... sometimes there are a couple specks and that is fine ...
this is the type filter I use : Dye Strainer : amzn.to/3sRv1It ~ I receive credit if you use this link
one other thing, Urea is supposed to help dissolve the dyes better.... I use it sometimes, but not always, so if you want to try this, I just add 1-2 tbsp of urea in with the water and dye powder and blend all together .... I used to make urea water to mix my dyes with, but it does go bad over time, so if you do it this way and the dye water starts to have an ammonia smell, then it is time to make new urea water as it has gone bad
I hope this helps with your issue.... BUT, if I did not understand your question, ten please ask a new one rather than reply to this one as I will see it faster that way... if you reply, then it may be a while before I see it... so ask new and even refer to this one so I remember 😉✌🏻
@@MrTieDye yes the lemon is the main one ! I used 6 tsp to 8 oz of water also so im way off ! But the site i read said to use 8 tsp to 8 oz of warm water ! So i need to just add 8 oz more of warm water . I have urea so you helped me understand how to use that as well . Thank you ! The hoodie that you used in one of your old videos...was it 100% cotton? When dyeing a hoodie/sweatshirt does it have to be 100% cotton? They are hard to find in 100% cotton. Thanks
it was 90/10 cotton/poly ... it is a Hanes Ultimate Cotton Hoodie ... the other one I used to use before I found the Hanes was Gildan Ultra Cotton, and it was 80/20 and dyed up great ....
it is important to be mostly cotton to get the better colors.... BUT, a 50/50 hoodie does not mean it will not work, it just means the colors may look lite or faded.... but it depends mostly on the cotton content of the shell(outer part) of the hoodie
I love the T-shirts but it was kinda hard to see how you folded the T-shirt. Please do video on all the folds you do for different kind of products. Thank you
Nice
Thanks
why do you dry the shirt in this video?
sometimes when I tie things with sinew, letting the tee dry before I dye it will help with dye saturation... and for this I wanted just a thin white line left ... so dyeing dry helps as the liquid dyes will spread through the dry fabric where as damp fabric is does not travel much or very fast
One thing though with letting a tee dry before you dye it, sometimes the dyes will want to roll off the fabric rather than soak in, for this I will lightly spray the tee with soda ash... this 'breaks' the surface tension for the top of the fabric and allows the dyes to soak in ✌🏻
Да это круто,Карл!😻
Огромное спасибо!!
Wow
keren
Hi Carl. Thank you for your amazing videos! For the shirts that you’ve removed the color from, do you only spritz them with soda ash or do you also soak them prior to dyeing them?
thank you .... for tees that I discharge and then want to re dye.... I either soak them in soda ash, or I will dye it and then squirt soda ash over top, like coating it with dye ... the main thing is you need soda ash before you batch it ... here is a video on soda ash and when to soak your tee :ua-cam.com/video/rkmAQxOu52A/v-deo.html
Instead of dry erase crayons you could just use tailors chalk.
Thank you and yes I have found some Tailors chalk that I use when I am doing a simple fold... but I still use the Dry Erase Crayons for images that I need the lines to stay there while I fold and tie the tee as the chalk can rub off easily

When I speak of 'cheesy smile' thumbnails, I'm talking about all the influencer videos that have millions of followers and a thumbnail with a weird-reaction pose thumbnail. But for some reason thumbnails are more important than content; if you know CHANDYE, the video with a smiley face drawn on a spiral has 10 million views while pretty much all the other videos have maybe 10's of thousands. That being said, don't waste time chasing 'likes/views' because your audience loves what you do regardless of a thumbnail and you are lovingly mentioned everyday among a growing community.
Here is a like to the CHANDYE video or you can just look up CHANDYE 'Happy Face'
