On November 4, 2014, New England Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation department presented Music of John Zorn: A 35-Year Retrospective. Curated by John Zorn and Anthony Coleman, the concert included NEC’s faculty, students, and ensembles performing repertoire drawn from Zorn projects that spanned three and a half decades of work and a wide variety of musical idioms.

utterly brilliant, and it shows that bubble-gum pop still has a future
I played In the 1995 NEC Cobra Ensemble at Jordan Hall under the "Prompting" of Steven Drury.
The most interesting recording of Cobra is titled "John Zorn's CobraTokyo Operations '94" an is performed with all traditional Japanese Instruments.
All the drama on stage!
Game pieces are life!
this looks like quite some fun!
woohoo!! awesome!
Excellent.
AMAZING
Nice... but I'm curious as to why the cues cards aren't displayed to the audience. I'm guessing that's an intentional 'don't-let-them-behind-the-curtain' move and I assume some prefer it this way because a 'traditional' conductor isn't expected to expose the sheet music to the audience however it would be a nice way to read further into the music makers themselves as they translate their way through the piece.
Because the cue cards just contain letters or symbols that would be completely meaningless to the audience. You can see the full list of cue cards at the beginning of the video.
the cue cards are for the musicians..there is no conductor. it would sorta be like handing out parts of the sheet music of a classical concert...not really useful for most people..doesnt really enhance da music..i don't think its an intentional move
What the others said...and also..the conductor is the improvisor and the band is his instrument. He literally plays his "instrument" with his cards(partially).
AMAZING!!!
pas sûr.....que j'aime !je le dis sans malice
Interesting…
Sooooo delicious
This makes the pentatonic scale look and sound like a ridiculous tragedy :)

@@wids ua-cam.com/video/3axwvjwUpNE/v-deo.html there a fundamental difference
I could do this. I don't even play an instrument.
True! All you need is the basic understanding of play, don't play, play loud, play quiet, imitate, play something you played earlier, etc... You could do the piece with non-musicians easily.
Try it, you'll run out of ideas pretty quick.
But it's a game :) that's the idea.
Yes, once you know the rules its pretty accessible for everyone. That is the genius of it imo. But with the best musicians you will get the best results for sure.
@@Ibakecookiess But it forces you to think creatively. I did this today, and it was a really nice and odd experience. I played things I wouldn't normally ever play. You play this as if you are a complete beginner in a way, which makes it fun and fresh.
Mozart should be glad that does not hear this piece of... art (?)
mozart would LOVE LOVE LOVE playing Cobra
