      I really love how you can actually *feel* the songs gaining momentum, which is something supposedly all music does but never seems to be especially noticable.
      Kaisarion, Watcher in the Sky, Hunter's Moon, and a few others (wanna say either Square Hammer or Dance Macabre, but I've been on a Impera binge since the album dropped dropped so I may be misremembering) basically just scoop you up and roll away with you and it's just so good

      while it is fascinating to watch shredders and how technically gited those people are just a small percentage of musicians can really write hooks the way ghost does it. I know I will be probably never as technical as those people because I simply don't have will to spend that much time playing I like to play like couple of hours per week. But to feel music and write catchy songs and riffs. thats something tobias should inspire in any of us.

    The way he explains how his solo writing is more compositional, than just improvised super-fast note vomit, is pretty much the "thing" that makes Ghost for me. There's absolutely zero fat or extra, every note, stem and harmony is long thought and hits the nail on the head. When they play live, the ghouls play the songs exactly like on the record, with immaculate precision and skill, which makes the live show a trancendent experince for those audience members, who know all the songs by heart, note by note. There's only a couple of other bands that I can name, from whom I can't find a single bad song, and that's rare.

    He's totally right about the four chord progression (6415) for Square Hammer. It's featured in many songs across many genres. The awesome property about this progression is that, instead of starting at 6 in the 6415 progression, you can start with 1 which turns out to be a 1564 progression, which is probably the most used major chord progression ever (Let It Be by Beatles anyone?). You can also start with 4 to make a 4156 progression which also sounds great. However, I am obsessed with the 6415 progression, especially on the piano. If you are a fan of Square Hammer's chorus, check these songs out: 21 Guns and Holiday by Green Day, River Flows in You by Yiruma, Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi, Say Something by A Great Big World, Now and Forever by Richard Marx (bridge), 18 and Life by Skidrow, 9 Crimes by Damien Rice, Alone by Heart, Awake and Alive by Skillet, Down by Breaking Benjamin, Snow by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Everglow by Coldplay, Faded by Alan Walker, Going Under by Evanescence, Stay With Me by In Flames, Break In by Halestorm, Behind These Hazel Eyes by Kelly Clarkson, Listen to Your Heart by Roxette, Over My Head by Sum 41, Peace of Mind by Boston, Still Loving You by Scorpion, and Time of Dying by Three Days Grace. Thanks for reading!
    Edit: Let me add Spillways to the list. Love the new album!

    Ghost may not be the most technical band in terms of “speed” but the songwriting is next level shit. It is hard to pin point why Tobias is such a master mind. For anyone who has studied music will know immediately that the song writing and more importantly the song structure of any ghost record is superb. Don’t know why they ever get hate. They’re never trying to be more or less than what they unapologetically are. Their composition is so good that it is universally loved by any ear even untrained one. That’s when you know is great music.

      I wish a lot of these people would realize that ultra fast and complicated wailing doesn't equal good song writing. So much more to guitar playing than wanking. Sure, there is a lot of talent and a place for it, but there is so much more to writing a great song.

      I completely agree with your statement.
      With us kindred spirits having an affinity for music I can concur that Tobias has a gift of picking out what sounds right, testing out that sound, than merging it with other recordings till it harmonizes not just for the instrumental aspect but also taking the vocals and lyrics into consideration for a successful merge that could be accommodating for each individual involved with each song.
      I mean I dont get why people gotta be so elitist towards Ghost (If its the theatrics, get over yourselves), its new, authentic, and euphoric in itself and is what drew me to them in the first place.

      @Not Mick Blotters That would be dumb and boring as fuck and it wouldn't fit Ghost's style at all. Plus, there's nothing "cringe" about it. Rock/Metal needs and will always need bands like Ghost that are theatrical and over the top. Bands like Alice Cooper, Kiss, Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot etc. It isn't just a "gimmick". It's an "image" yes but every band has an image (at least the ones that are worth their salt do). Even guys standing on stage in jeans/leather casual type clothes like Motorhead or Metallica. The inherent badass feel that their music gives the listener demands to have a no nonsense, jeans/leather rocker thing going on but it's still an "image" that they're projecting.
      Back to my point though, bands like Ghost or Alice Cooper who write and perform the way they do have no business being dressed like ordinary people on stage. The lyrics and delivery would clash completely with the vibe they have going on. Same thing if Motorhead were to go on stage dressed as the guys from Gwar or something. It'd make no sense. Bands, GREAT bands from any era be it Motorhead, Ghost, Judas Priest or whoever, need a sound, look and style to be completely consistent in order to deliver the total package. Case in point, Rob Halford discovered his whole leather, bondage gear-ish fetish around the Hell Bent for Leather days and what came next? British Steel. That album had great tunes yes but it also had a coherent, total package of band look, album art, etc. . I rest my case.

      @zagreatandini2345 4 роки тому +9

      Ritual was my first and thought “man this band would be huge if they’d tone the satanic stuff down for Americans” they toned it down with the 3rd papa and BAM! But I still prefer the old ghost, papa 1 & 2 were my fav live shows for ghost. He had the 2 guitarists kickin ass live, they’re still amazing live but the new heads don’t bring the same emotion and soul to the show. Felt like seeing a 70s band, the tone of the guitars were spot on. Now it’s lost a lot of that. But still, Tobias is amazing. One man band.

    Is it weird I got chills just listening to him playing it half assed on an acoustic,the sound and style just shines through,one of those bands where one chord or one chord to another can completely hit you hard. Not many bands can make you feel the way they can with just a couple of notes or chord changes :)
