My man, you get the award of the century.
1. You stated how many bolts were required to remove (and you showed us where they were).
2. You gave us actual bolt specs
3. Told us exactly what was required to remove the assembly (clips, brackets, bolts, etc)
4. You didn't fast forward but let us see exactly what we needed to see as if we were taking a class from you in person.
5. You demonstrated exactly how to use the paper clip to check the fuel bulb.
I am so thankful for your masterful instructional. Thank you so much!
I did this today with your video as a guild, came out perfect, took over an hour but was easy. By the way iam a 39 year old female and i still did it lol
That's fantastic!
Great video, easy-to-follow procedure. About the light bulbs in the instrument cluster, a bunch of mine were out. I took the cluster out and bought the gray and black sockets with new bulbs included from hondapartsnow. They were considerably cheaper than buying from my Honda dealer. I replaced the sockets because when they blew, they charred the sockets as well as blowing the bulbs. All my gray sockets were badly charred. I also replaced the shift indicator bulbs. Drive was out, but I went ahead and replaced the ones used most, P, R N D. There is also a gray socket bulb under the cover for the shifter bulbs and mine was out. I replaced a total of 16 bulbs I think by the time I was done. There are 5 gray ones, one for each gear, and several black ones depending on the features you have. There is also one large bulb socket connected to a wire, and I had to replace that bulb, too. If your dash is getting dark and hard to see, especially at night, it's time to take it out and check all the bulbs, make an order, and replace all the burned out bulbs and charred sockets.
this is something I need to do..
bro keep it coming wit crv vids
I've got more planned! Trying to get my crv up to par!
Man you made getting that seat out way to easy. Took me like 20 mins to figure out how to get it out of there. Great info thanks.
Just bought a 2000 CR-V yesterday. No problems yet. Thanks for the info. 🔧🐿
Perfect! Hope you enjoy it!
Fantastic job! Really appreciate the time and effort in putting this together!
👍
bro what a engineering design. So easy to replace this. I've done a bunch before and usually have to drop the tank.
I've bought others since this install just for ease of installation.
A great job on showing how to change the fuel pump
Thanks, hope it helped!
replacing my original fuel pump from my 1997 Honda CRV, thanks! excellent video
Glad it helped
Great video bro. Love the details.
Awesome. Saved to my Favourites folder.
Sweet!!
Thank you for sharing, right now I need to replace my gas pump.
Perfect!
thank you , really was looking for part number very helpful
Thanks for watching, glad to have helped!
Thanks Jon, you saved me a ton with this video.
Glad to hear it. It's been nagging me forever and feels good to have a working low fuel light again, also the piece of mind with the fuel pump too.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Yes indeed.
Decal shipping tomorrow!
@@GarageBuiltHondas Yesss!!
Question about the clip you inserted to the socket. Did you turn ON the key before you insert the clip to the socket? Or its just the dashboard lights ON after you inserted the clip. And what do you mean of that the dashboard lights ON after inserting the clip to the socket? Is that indicates that the sending unit is perfectly working? What if the dashboard did not lights ON after inserting the clip to the socket? Is that indicates the sending unit is faulty? Thanks
if your pumps working and you are jst getting low signals, you can just take that assembly out and see what is wrong with the rheostat - if you run your gas to E all the time or run around with low gas sometimes corrosion will build up on the contacts. sometimes you can just get another rheostat - after market pumps often dont do well and factory ones cost a lot. I just came in here to see how ya'll get to the pump assembly in these CRV's, I bought one the other day but it;s accross town for awhile. I see that honda is not a douche like some other companies and you do not have to drop that tank! NICE I cut a hole the one under this cars seat in my GMC yukkon and made a bolt down sealed door over it because the fuel pumps are so bad in those, i have changed it 6 times now! suburbans also. terrible, it really sucks when you have to drop the tank. this is awesome great video everything I have looked up on how to work on the CRV I got the other day makes me so happy! i am going to be able to drive this thing forever!
My dude. Always killing it lol
Even the boring videos can be educational! 😀

Thanks bro this was a fantastic video.
Another awesome Video!
Thanks Ty!
Thank you! Great Video. Much appreciated
You're welcome
Very helpful thank you
Hell ya brother. My 98 crv low gas doesn’t light up either. Planning on doing this on Wednesday. Perfect timing!
Sweet dude! I don't know about you, but it's annoying not having the low fuel light. You'll get it done quickly too, it's pretty easy!
@@GarageBuiltHondas How low does it have to get to set off the light?
I believe with 2 gallons.
Great video, thank you, it really helped me a lot! With your video, this turned out to be an easy fix. One thing though, to viewers; be very mindful of the little plastic clip on the one fuel line. Use care, and do not try to take it off until you have the fuel pump out of the car. I did okay and was able to reuse it, but i did look into it. If you break it, a new one can cost you as much $20, or more. Again, thanks.
Thank you, and thanks for the tip!
Also, take time to clean the electrical plug that hooks the wiring harness to the fuel pump. The one in the video was corroded and so was mine.
they sell fuel line by the foot at most auto stores, so anyone reading this don't worry, its not a big deal if it breaks, just bring old one so they can match the diameter
@@slimsqde7397 : Good point, but my comment was not about the fuel line itself, but the clip attached to it.
Great video 👍
Thank you

Just replaced mine. Great video! Still having some what of an issue with the actual “low gas light” coming on. I can see it come on, than it fades out. Where should the needle on the gas gauge be when the light comes on? Is there anything else I should be checking for?
Keep running it. Don't fill it. It should come on completely eventually.
Thanks for your great video tutorial on how to replace the fuel pump assembly. I’ve add an issue this month with my 2001 Honda CRV not turning over (battery good) - got it to start, and then a few weeks later the engine failed while driving - once (not driving it now). Does it sound like it could be the fuel pump? I’ve run tests on the electrical with a code reader and nothing is registering so I don’t think it’s the relay. Any trouble shooting tips you can offer will be appreciated. Thank you, Jen
Responded to your email.
@@GarageBuiltHondas have the same issue! Turns off randomly while driving but starts back up. Some days it happens 3 times on the way home and most days doesn’t turn off. No check engine light, no low fuel light. Think this will help?
Main fuel relay also
Great video. I heard people don’t trust those strainers/socks over the oem strainers due to it warning you the gas is low too late or too early I forgot but the info on this is awesome.
Interesting. My low fuel light came on for the first time about 2-3 days after finishing this, but turned off! It was because I was going uphill then back down the other side of a mountain. It then proceeded to turn on and stay in as the gas got even lower. Thankfully it's working great!
That’s all that counts..
Ty for the video.
Hope it helps!
Thank you

How do i get the bottom seat cushion out the way to get to the panel, does it fold or do i need to unscrew it
Watch the video.
I clicked on the link u provided and it says it doesn't fit my model I have a 2000 ex ,should I still order it?
It should. As long as you order the same part # I have listed.
Hi. Love the vid. I cant seem to find the exact same bosch fuel pump anywhere. Could you send me a link on where to get it for roughly the same price?
Link is in the description. If not available anymore you'll have to do some shopping around online.
the bosch unit is sold out everywhere looks like. Anyone found a credible source to buy it from?
I have a 2001 crv and it sometimes it won’t start unless I step on the gas .. Do you think should I replace the fuel pump or the injectors?
Do a fuel pressure test first.
Have you recorded where should the fuel gauge needle should be pointed when the light turns on?
No
Well that was surprisingly easy. I’ve got a raw fuel smell that comes from the back of the car sometimes when I refuel. Maybe this will motivate me to investigate further. The top of the fuel pump assembly was surprisingly dirty. Is it exposed to the weather under the car? Cars that live outside have a hard life.
It is. Maybe the rubber seal needs replacing. Could be a possible cause of the gas smell
So the low gas light was not working on my daughters 99 CRV. I jumped the harness at the pump and still no light. I removed the cluster and found the bulb had been replaced with an led bulb. I replaced the led with another led bulb from the cluster and still nothing. I swapped in an incandescent bulb #74 and the light works when I jump the harness. LED bulbs are not a good option for the low gas bulb. I believe is has the do with the lack of resistance in an LED vs an incandescent bulb. I remember in my 99 Civic sometimes the bulb would dimly come on and then get brighter. LEDs are either on or off so they work great for the other dash bulbs, but not for the gas light that gets a signal from a rheostat device like a fuel level sender.
My 1998 Civic has the same problem, no low fuel light. Just wondering, if there is a similar assembly bosch assembly for the civic? Heck I am looking at RockAuto and it doesnt even list the part that you are installing for the CR-V.
Where did you run across the info for this pump?
Thanks Jon
I doubt the assembly isn't he same because of the different body styles. The link is in the description of the video.
@@GarageBuiltHondas
I figured, but how did you even find that assembly? I even looked on bosch's website and they dont have it listed for your CRV...
Magic! Lol
I just google shopped for a crv pump and came across it. That's how I do all my shopping. I liked this one the best plus it was the cheapest.
So I followed your steps but I ran into an issue. Everything went fine, but that connector at 2:54 the red one with 2 on top and 3 on bottom. Behind it are several wires. One of them ripped off because of how old it is. My issue is finding a replacement because I have no clue what it's called. Any idea where I can find it or how to fix it?
@@daniellewhite-rayos850 I ended up going to the junkyard and finding the same model years and cutting it off then rewiring it back to my car and ended up working. I still don't know what it's called but I got my 2000 cr-v up and running 😁 is there something I could help you with?
What was the initial reason to change pump? Performance, or just low level light? Mine, a 2001 with 212,000 miles is slow to start then goes hard about 3000rpm, so its as if it is waiting for fuel. New plugs, camp, coil and rotor, wires...already in. Fuel Pump maybe?
230k miles. I wanted to fix the light but also didn't know the history of the pump and wanted to avoid it failing one day and being stranded randomly.
Your pump might be struggling and/or the strainer might be clogged too helping cause your issues potentially.
Can i take the old sending unit off and use a sending unit from an assembly i found ?
If it fits u don't see why not
My Crv starts slow after it has been sitting overnight. I’ve replaced the spark plugs with no avail. Does this sound like a fuel pump issue ?
Possibly. Go rent a fuel pressure tester from your local auto parts store and rule out the pump being the issue.
ty
👍
Do one of those hoses on the top connect to to the fuel tank pressure sensor I’m asking because mine got completely ripped out an I’m trying to figure out we’re that hose goes please if anyone knows lmk
I'm unsure. Follow the old hose. There's really not many on there already.
Can i ask you how long this job took you? Lucky me i get to do this tomorrow with a friend
Shouldn't take more than 2 hours.
The Amazon link provided shows a price of $434. Where did you get the part for $60?
At that link. The price has gone up significantly, I'm unsure why. It's been over 2 years since I bought mine, shop around, maybe you can find it cheaper now.
I have a 99 crv, every so often I’ll lose power/rpms drop (no lights flashing-just did my alternator & its not a clogged cat, i just replaced that too.) my low fuel light works and so does my gauge. Does anyone have symptoms similar to this? Trying to diagnose my problem.
Are you sure just 60 bucks bosh brand, that 4 years ago, today any branded pump cost from 140 to 200, only unbranded one cost from 50 bucks to 80 bucks on eBay,but you can't trusted except if you need the assembly without pump.
Still trying to find where you replace the pump
Great Vid! Easiest fuel pump ever. One thing though, my gas gauge stopped working. Any ideas?
Could be the cluster, could be the sending unit.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Just as reference for others. My gas gauge didn't work after install because I inserted the float and mesh strainer wrong. Inserting it towards the rear of the vehicle fixed the issue.
I have a 01 and the fuel gauge got stuck today any suggestions?
Replace the cluster. They're pretty cheap and easy to find.
@@GarageBuiltHondas That's what I ended up doing, but thank you for the response I appreciate it.
Great video on how to replace the pump. The link to the fuel pump on Amzn today 8/11/2021 is $434. I guess that is because it is discontinued.
That's too bad. It was a good solution. I'll see if I can find a new link to a different brand.
They discontinued this for real ?
@@GarageBuiltHondas I am looking to replace my fuel pump for my Honda crv 1999 Ex. I would love a recommendation on where to buy the part, please! great video btw
amzn.to/39WCEFL
People just make sure you put the new fuel pump in so the float is not stuck in the tank. I had to take it back out to make sure the float was in right.
Where you get new fuel pump?
The link in the description
Do you have a diagnostic for my needle on my dash stating below E, even after I fill it with gas?
It never moves?
@@GarageBuiltHondas It never moves. I got it replaced by a mechanic and afterwards I filled my tank completely and It has never moved since. I'm skeptical of going to someone else for an entire new assembly again.
So it worked before he replaced the parts?
@@GarageBuiltHondas the entire thing needed to be changed. I purchased it by a private seller and the car itself didn’t start anymore because of the fuel pump going bad according to the mechanic upon inspection before buying it. After he changed it, months ago, the needle has never changed from empty and that’s with driving it a few times and filling the tank up.
Try a new cluster then. It probably stopped working. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen.
My 2000 crv stalls out while I'm driving. Sometimes it takes 15 to 20 to start up again. Would that be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay?
Sounds more like a pump
@@GarageBuiltHondas thank you. I'll go ahead and replace it.
Hope it helps and fixes your problem. You may also want to check you plugs/wires and distributor if the issue still remains.
@@GarageBuiltHondas sure thing!
@@GarageBuiltHondas I've already checked the plugs, replaced ignition coil & rotor button.
I couldn’t find the part. It’s out of stock everywhere. Any other part number ?

@@GarageBuiltHondas i got a 01 it’s okay if I use it ? Appreciate your help 👍🏾🙏🏾
I'm not sure if they've changed, sorry, can't help.
Is this the same for automatic
Yes
Just replaced my sending unit since my light was always on so I believe that the float was either jammed or faulty but the light is still on after replacing the unit
Check the cluster, check the bulb, check the related wiring for the sending unit.
Bulb is good since it’s always on I cleaned all the plugs reset ecu and still on
Maybe need to bust out a multimeter and start checking some of the wiring.
My 98 CRV light stayed on after I replaced the burned-out bulb also and so I replaced sending unit also. Long story short - DON'T use an LED bulb in the low fuel bulb socket. You MUST use an incandescent bulb - one with a filament. Since LEDs are very low resistance and turn on at 1.8 volts to 3.3 volts my light was on anytime the key was on. I assume the design on first Gen CRVs was to continuously leak small voltage to the bulb and then build up the voltage to 12 volts when out of gas. Since incandescent bulbs are high resistance they push back on the voltage until the voltage actually gets high enough to make the tungsten filament burn - in other words - GLOW. My assumption on this is because now with the incandescent bulb in mine it is off until almost completely empty, then it will slowly get brighter as it gets closer to empty. BTW LEDs work fine in every other socket on my dash. I don't know if this is true for all first Gen CRVs.
You can save the money and time and just look at the gas gauge!
That works but it's not in my nature to leave things broken. My OCD won't let me. 😁
Where did you get that for $60?
Used to be cheap. Prices skyrocketed over the last few years.
Great video man. But where I live, the whole assembly is over $300 while the pump is only $60. Would have been great to see how to replace just the pump.
It's super easy. There's the fuel tube and a couple fittings. I guarantee you'll be able to change it once getting to this step, even for a novice mechanic.
My crv died suddenly after we left home right after we started to accelerate through a stop sign. Thinking it's the camshaft sensor or fuel pump because the ignition still tries, but engine doesn't fire.
Do you hear the fuel pump prime when first turning the key?
Great write up as usual but wait that Bosch was made in the JPan since when did that happen. Bosch is German Tech. Well if Japan built it then it will last!
Right dude! I wasn't hesitant about it one bit!
That's my problem 😭 I need fuel pump.
Best i can find full assembly for is 400.00 +
Looks like price has gone up.
If the low fuel light didn't come on do you suspect that its best to just replace the fuel pump then? Because them mfs are expensive haha. My crv low gas light doesn't turn on, but just saw the price and well yea haha.
Seemed to be my sending unit. See if you can find just that alone. I'm not sure if it's integrated into the pump.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thank you bro. Ill do research on that! Keep up the videos though I enjoy watching them!
👍
I changed fuel pump, heaps of power from starter motor, but engine not firing up, piece of shit, beware of these 1st gen crv, very good video though followed instructions too the tee.
Verify spark and fuel and you should be good to go. How did you know your fuel pump was bad, did you test fuel pressure?
oh yeah, this got comical second half. low gas light, If I get back there I will take that one out and also the ABS light. neither one is needed. i hate looking at lit silly lights. the ABS is not needed because , it;s never going to work, I AM NOT HOOKING THAT SILLY STUFF BACK UP. and the low fuel light is not needed because there is a gauge right there ! LOL. if the gauge is not working then there is something wrong between the Rheostat and the and the guage, corrosion or a broke wire or even some gunk that got in the tank. The OEM is more expensive because it;s AWESOME, you can rebuild an OEM Honda fuel pump assembly. the assembly is the entire thing, if your pump just needs replaced you can get just the pump and new sock. your socks here are not even dirty, I would bet your gas light was not coming on just because of a tiny bit of oxidation or some other crud that was breaking the circuit. Anyway, yeah I saw some brand new honda oem assemblies up in the ridiculous range, like 500 bucks! LOL i would not buy one of those for sure but I would rebuild my own as long it could last. im shooting for a milliom mile car. :0)
Damn now they want like $600
I'm not sure why it went up in price. Check your local auto parts store. I believe they have the same item at a lower price.
$60? That link says $434.07!!
Video is old, price reflected that. Not sure why pricings is different now. Maybe the demand increased exponentially.
