Went Keto for 15 months, lost weight...just went carnivore for 2 months, first time in 15 years..I am pain free from fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc. its amazing!
How strict of a carnivore diet do you follow? Do you eat meat, salt and water only or do you eat other animal products? Do you allow yourself coffee once a day? Coffee is a plant, but many people who follow the carnivore diet still have coffee once a day because they don't want to give it up. I'm curious how strictly you adhere to it because I am 97% carnivore, I have that one coffee each day, maybe a few nuts once in a while. I do eat eggs but not often. I have some dairy which is allowed in moderation. Mostly I eat meat but not exclusively. I am in a similar situation and I'm curious for that reason.
Carnivore has fixed my fibromyalgia and arthritis after keeping my carbs below 20 grams of carbs as well........I'd never have believed it........I experienced all the things both doctors talk about here
@@chrisgraham6148 by definition though carnivore is zero carbs or close to zero. Keto is generally understood to be 20 grams of carbohydrate a day although some people can stay in ketosis eating more, it varies. With regard to carnivore, people have different approaches. Some like Dr Anthony Chaffee, recommend meat, salt and water exclusively. Particularly for people who are sick but that is his general recommendation for everyone. That's how he practices it. He doesn't use salt on this meat anymore. He eats meat and drinks water and that's it. He is very healthy and looks great but that is a very restrictive diet. Do you eat eggs, butter, other foods that are carnivore but aren't meat and salt? Do you drink coffee? Do you ever have non-carnivore foods or do you adhere to it 100% all the time? I would really like to know your experience. I am 95% carnivore, probably closer to 98%, I do have coffee once a day with a little heavy cream. I eat eggs sometimes, I use butter, I'll have less than an ounce of cheese in a day. The coffee is obviously not carnivore. I don't eat much in terms of plant food, sometimes none at all but I'll have some blueberries when they are seasonal. My primary food is grass-fed beef, it's grain finished which is not ideal but I haven't found a good source of grass-fed and grass finished beef yet. I practice intermittent fasting, I generally don't eat for 16 hours, if I am physically active and hungry I'll eat in the early afternoon, if not my main meal is in the evening. It is hard for me to get the day's calories in one meal. Please feel free to share any information about how you have done it, what your daily practice is. I started out with a ketogenic diet or a close to ketogenic diet, I found Dr Jason Fung and read his books. I incorporated intermittent fasting and have lost a lot of weight and my health has improved tremendously. The question I haven't answered yet is whether it would be good or better for me to go strict carnivore. Meat, salt and water, nothing else. That feels restrictive. I enjoy my late morning coffee. We have an espresso machine, good coffee once or at most twice a day is something I really enjoy. If a person feels too much deprivation that can be harmful. I don't eat any processed foods, I don't eat carbs effectively, no sugar, flour, pro-inflammatory grain and seed oils, nothing that comes in a package. It's mostly steak, sometimes eggs, a little butter, some cheese and occasionally some nuts although very infrequently. Thank you in advance for anything you share.
@@Kyarrix I have added in some more carbs (maybe more ketovore right now) stay below 20 grams of carbs daily. I can not eat basic pork as it gives me a stomach ache, but can eat bacon (smoked, aged?), seafood (wild caught) chicken, eggs, beef. I limit dairy to AGED cheeses only b/c aged cheeses don't trigger my IBD. But, dairy is very modest. Coffee yes, 2 cups a day, and 2T of half and half in it. Intermittent fasting has helped also. I do like to add a small leafy lettuce salad 2 cups at night with evoo/vinegar. I just found the added bulk keeps me full and holds me over for 16-18 hours. Was Dx w/ Fibro in 2007. At 68, i have realized a lot of processed garbage hurt my gut and my body.
It was Eric Berg who started me on my keto journey, but six months in I realised that I was getting no benefits from fruit and vegetables and gave them up.... Going carnivore was the best thing I ever did, fixing EVERY SINGLE THING that was wrong with me....
Great video! Nice to see that he at least gave it a try. I would have recommended he do it at least 30 days, because it takes about 2 weeks to get the different plant toxins out of your system, and then you can see the real benefits of dropping the plants after that and going full carnivore. It would also be fantastic if Dr Westman was able to put together a larger interventional trial on the carnivore diet, and I would love to be a part of something like that if it ever happens. Thanks for the great video!
Dr Westman has a large patient base and the resources of Duke University behind him. Hopefully he could get the volunteers and the university backing for an interventional trial. Good point Dr Chaffee.
I’d love to see Dr Westman do more carnivore trials. I’m finish up 90 days carnivore and it hasn’t healed me yet, but there’s some improvement. My thyroid is still problematic and my small ldl particle count is too high, so I’ve still got damage to address on these issues. I’m going to double down on the carnivore than give up. I’m taking Dr Elizabeth’s Bright’s advice and doing 80/20 ratio and maybe opting for tallow instead of butter in case that’s increasing inflammation.
@@AGVenge That's just from experience from myself and thousands of patients that it generally takes about 2 weeks to really start feeling your best, and then you start getting more and more improvements from there. Then when people reintroduce these plant toxins it can take a week or two to clear them out, alcohol takes up to 3 weeks until you start feeling like you did before you drank.
I'm 74. I started on Keto 4 years ago and switched to carnivore 18 months ago. My waist when I started was 42, it's now 32. I've dropped 85 pounds. Many of the health issues I had such as acid reflux, joint pain, auto-immune rashes, sleep apnea, and painful bowel movements are gone. It's it's been an amazing journey back to health. Dr Westman you are always the voice of reason, thanks for the review.
I'm 70. Obese & diabetes II. Are you saying that dropping a few keto side-veges or side-salad off the plate & only eating the meat has been the big health booster? Has the jump from Keto to carnivore been that significant?
@@absolootely2571Yes it was. I recommend you watch Dr Chaffee's video titled "Plants are trying to kill you". Our bodies do not process fiber, plus plants are full of toxins. I was keto for almost 2 years. I went from 254 to 215, but I couldn't drop below 215. After a year on carnivore my weight was 173 - Today my weight is 165. I'm no longer prediabetic and my blood pressure is better now than it was when I was 55.
When my wife had Myastenia Gravis and Stage 4 Lymphoma we put her on the Max Gerson diet and in 9 months both illnesses were healed. That was in 2009. Today she is hale and hearty at 68. The Gerson diet is mostly non-meat and non-protein. I guess we can say that any diet is healthy as long as you stay natural and stay away from processed foods All natural foods are good. I've seen it in my own home, in my own family
Well let me tell you about my high fat carnivore diet sir. I have been eating carnivore since January 8th 2024 and I was diabetic for at least 12 years and on insulin! I have lost over 55 pounds and I am not diabetic anymore. No more insulin! My inflammation is gone, CK-97 CRP-0.3 less than symbol A1C-5.5 insulin total/R 7.4 TSH-1.650 T3 free 2.4 vitamins D 73.1 so I think I am doing pretty good for a diabetic! I don’t follow Berg’s stuff too much, wanted to put in my 2 cants. The main reason I am eating like this is our ancestors did too, so why not? Also if I follow doctors recommendations or the ADA’s recommendations I would always be a diabetic!! I wish I knew about this long ago! I have suffered tremendously with this illness!
Since I stopped spending money on vegetables (which I dislike) I feel free to buy flowers instead. I get a lot more enjoyment from bouquets than I ever got from broccoli.
Been following Dr Berg for years and still use some of his products! Well one year ago I started Carnivore and my vitamins and minerals balanced to perfect and hormones! WOW! Since then I have had to deal with Oxalate dumping! Meats, eggs, and animal fats are now my friends! After 60 years of vegan, raw and vegetarian diets I am slowly losing weight, a lot of inches and blood sugar improving! Thank you Dr Berg!
Yep an other docs totall against all meat or high fat diets, so crazy. Everything I've researched the past week says it's sugar and glucose that. makes the LDL cholesterol oxidized, and that's where the problem comes in. Has nothing to do with just regular cholesterol. I don't believe a word a doctor say anymore if a company profits from selling a drug like statin.
I love being carnivore. Not because of some influences from others on UA-cam. The results did it for me. Weight loss, higher energy, no more gas issues, NO MORE CONSTIPATION!!!! Six month in and I won't go back. Also, my grocery bill is much less than it used to be.
@AMO17 my gas issues were pretty bad. Farting in bed, in public, etc. But it was also the constipation that bothered me several days a week. After I cut off all veggies and fruits, in two weeks, I was laying in bed abs it occurred to me that it was gone. I rarely pass gas. I use the toilet perhaps twice a week, and no longer do I have to hope that there is a plunger within reach. It's small and no longer painful to pass. It's not easy. I started around the time that the holidays were getting started, BUT I wanted my health issues gone. Up to date, there are still no bowel problems and over 80 lbs lost. Now, I have noticed that if I eat something that has grains or something with fiber, my body quickly reacts. Diarrhea. So I will not go back. 🙂
Love this! Not one size fits all when it comes to diet! Carnivore diet works for me when lap band and other diets failed. I no longer crave carbs, sugar, processed foods. I also discovered the elusive “off switch” I never had. I was broken. Carnivore not only transformed but saved my life. I love my food, freedom and new way of eating. Everyone needs to find what works for them for optimal health.
I went from keto to carnivore in 2017. Best move I ever made. I'll be 60 this year and feeling so good. I was miserable doing keto. I don't weight anything anymore, I just eat until I'm full, once or twice a day. Shopping is easy and fast. I can't afford grass finished beef. I eat the meat I can afford and what's on sale, mostly ground beef now and pork and eggs, sometimes chicken, and sardines in water mostly.
Dr. Westman, I just wanted to tell you that I have had the utmost respect for you as a human and a Dr. in the low-carb community. I also want to say Thank You for all of the good you have done for low carb/diabetic community. You are very respected by many many people. Thank you for all you do and have done.
I have the utmost respect for Berg. He wants to help people, and for that I can appreciate him. Although I don’t follow his previous advice on cruciferous vegetables, he still has everyone’s best interest at heart. He is one of the good guys and is willing to change when necessary. ❤❤❤
@@dianepereira1860I saw that video. I don’t agree with Dr.Bergs association with that “group” but I can still appreciate how much he helps people with is medical advice
@@jonwelch564I do it for two weeks every year when my husband visits our oldest daughter and her family. I use it as a time to get all sorts of projects done. And not preparing vegetables, etc., saves time. I have not really noticed much difference, but my normal diet for the last 14 years has been low carb/keto. Maybe not long enough to see a difference, or maybe too close to what I do to make a difference. Who knows.
My parents just called it stubborn & unhealthy.. I was the kid always left at the table alone with my plate "until", refusing to eat any vegetables. Could never stand any of them; haven't eaten even a speck prob since baby food. Not even a salad, celery, onion, tomsto, nothing. Will be 52 this year.. no scurvy, no meds or issues.
It's great to just skip the non-carnivore sections. With that said, I am a fan of Dr. Berg. His formula got rid of my dandruff. Just that alone makes me love him.
Dr. Georgia Ede's overwhelming evidence pushed me decidedly over to the carnivore diet camp. And of course, Dr. Westman's determined and methodical approach is a force multiplier.
@Ashlyn-qg5tt not sure if that’s directed towards me or the OP. But yes I am. 30 days, then a 2-3 day sugar “binge”, and now back to carnivore for six days.
I'm on day 148 today on carnivore - fckin game changer from Keto. I started at 196lbs (6ft 42yo M) I'm now 168lbs and shredded like a julienne salad. No more gas - like none what's so ever which is super weird tbh. To live life flatulent free is shocking and amazing at the same time. No more bloating, no more large BM's - only small ones 1per/day vs the 2-3 when I use to consume fruits and veg. No more under eye bags or joint pain. Running faster/longer and lifting more at the gym. I only gave carnivore a try because someone online in the comment section dared me to a 30 day challenge after I called BS on all these benefits ppl were claiming - they were sooo right and I owe that commenter everything because I now understand.
Interesting! I find the comments in some videos more informative than the videos. You are following a good authority here. Others to explore: Dr Ken Berry, Dr Shawn Baker, Dr Paul Mason, Dr Philip Ovadia, and Dr Anthony Chaffee. Best wishes on your journey to optimum health as you pursue a Proper Human diet🥓🍳🧈🥩I will be praying for you.🙏
I didn't believe it at first either but when I tried it I couldn't argue with the results. Feels like your body starts functioning properly how it should.
Carnivore is king!!! I did keto for 3 months, then ketovore for 6 months and now I've been on strict carnivore for 6 months. I'm currently down 80lbs and the healthiest I've ever been. Bloodwork is perfect, blood pressure is perfect, blood sugars are perfect.
I believe in a diet spectrum. We may not be the exact same, but we are all the same species. I wouldn't feed any cows steaks, they all do their best on grass. Humans are no different. I believe this is why the carnivore diet works for so many people. Carbs, it depends on the person, but we all need mainly animal proteins and fats.
Humans are omnivorous...fact! One thing I definitely avoid is doctors advice and any pharma drugs. I eat & drink anything I desire, and during each year I will consume a huge variety of foods. The most vital aspects of staying healthy, happy and strong is to simply spend as much of your life in the fresh air and sunlight. Just stay well clear of doctors, dentists and hospitals! 😂
@@Globetrotter-1 I believe we are opportunistic carnivores. We can tolerate plants but it's not optimal. But we are clearly adapted for animal fats and proteins. Simple isotope analysis shows that pre-agriculture humans ate 80-100% animal flesh.
High in the plant poison oxalates. I got my first and hopefully last kidney stone at 72 last year from snacking on cashews. Oxalates now give me arthritis symptoms in my hips that go away if I stop them. Eggs and meat are the safest thing to eat in my opinion.
Dr. Berg has so much good nutritional information out there. So many videos about vitamins and minerals and how they affect you. I was having cramps at night and once I started using electrolyte drinks it went away. He does share a lot of information about how things affect the body. He has a wealth of nutritional information.
While Eric Berg does sell his own branded products, he doesn't push them. Stop being so bitter, he's allowed to have a business and make a profit, and so are you - but you don't. People used to look up to people who succeded in business, America no longer does, is imploding rapidly, everyone is so jealous and bitter now, it's so sad.
I so appreciate your videos and neutral demeanor. I'm new to Carnivore and learning. I love having you as a back-drop of perspective as I find my way. So exciting at 57 y.o. I have always stayed pretty fit even with CFS/ME mainly due to being a life long learner of nutrition, health and former personal trainer. Grateful for you channel. Cheers from Seattle.
Thank you Doctors! I appreciate your time and energy. I have been Carnivore/Ketovore for 15 months. I have lost 65 lbs. I have reversed fatty liver disease and kidney disease. My blood sugar has dropped and still dropping (fell off the pistachio wagon a few times.) From 12.6 A1c a year ago to 7.1 now. My BP has gone from stroke high to almost normal and my BP meds have been cut from 100 mg of Losartan and a Beta blocker to 25mg of Losartan. I have stopped my cpap as my neck and tongue are thinner and I no longer stop breathing at night. My trigs and HDL are great (not going to worry about LDL.) I am getting more energy and am much healthier. I bet in a year, I will be close to my ideal weight. This diet has freed me from so many issues. I have a list of 22 things now that it has helped. Just hitting on the major ones here. I am blessed to have found Carnivore. Keto did not do it for me. it has enough carbs to keep me craving them and falling off the wagon too much. It took no carbs to get me and my blood sugar under control. Everyone is different. Most people do not benefit from carbs at all and when I found out oxalates and lectins were a big issue, that solved a lot of the mystery for me.
I followed dr Berg for one year, and I did lose weight but also a lot of hair and had diarrhoea every day, then I started a carnivore diet and all my stomach problems went away and to my big surprise my hair is also starting to come bag that I think is totally mind-blowing, but have now seen that this is happening for other people also.
I'm doing carnivore now, but Dr Berg was the first one I ever heard talking about how dangerous sugar and carbs were.and the importance of consuming fat. As far as I'm concerned, learning from him has been the single most beneficial thing I've ever done. I discovered him in 2015 and he was so ahead of everyone else.
Along with citrus, red meat was used as a traditional preventive to scurvy. It has been hypothesized that it was probably the fact that sailors' diets were primarily biscuits and beer with tiny amounts of dried meat that led to the deficiency.
Vitamin C is pretty fragile, too. I would imagine that the processes of drying, smoking, and/or salting that were used to preserve meat might destroy most of the vitamin C content.
@@LittleRadicalThinker Sailors were by far the most apparent cases of scurvy, probably due to their long periods of isolation from fresh food sources. When they found an island and were able to have fresh meat such as a wild pig, then that would have helped. Napoleon's soldiers got scurvy and they used meat from horses killed in battle. In the late 1800's and early 1900's it appears scurvy affected more of the general population and it is proposed that was due to the pasteurization of cow's milk, which destroyed the vitamin C. Historic Antarctic expeditions had issues with scurvy. Apparently seal meat was used to good effect. No one is arguing that some fruit & vegetables can keep scurvy away, but a lot of people don't realise that an animal based diet can also do the same thing. Whilst meat and dairy are classified as not having vitamin C, it is very apparent that they do contain it, or there would be a lot more people with scurvy. If dairy (mother's milk) did not contain vitamin C, babies would get scurvy. Probably if you were using dairy for getting your vitamin C then it would have to be raw dairy. Too much milk might increase carbs to a level where more vitamin C is required. Raw cheeses might be much less of a problem.
Yes, their main source of food was grain based gruel.. The Vikings, however, on long sea journeys mostly ate meat...and had no scurvy.. or horns on their helmets, apparently 🤔
There isn’t anyone on carnivore getting scurvy. As simple as that, there is vit. C in meat and carbs due the same transporter so if you eat carbs you need more vit c
Thanks for the video Doctor. Your response to Dr Bergs video was another valuable perspective. Many of us have learned a great deal from Dr Berg over the years. He IS a great educator and teacher telling the truth about diet, nutrition and the genuine science.
My diet as a ratio: 60% fat 25% protein 15% carb + fiber (popcorn and cabbage etc) I take 1 meal in the morning and a very light keto snack about 3 pm. I walked 10,000 steps or do weight and tone exercise alternate days I avoid sugar at all cost.
The best thing I ever did was go carnivore! All of my digestion problems are gone completely! I got my blood test done and the doctor told me my blood work was phenomenal. Best thing I ever did. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
It is by far not only about carbs. There is a lot more in plant food what makes us sick. Meat is great because it contains exactly the same chemicals we are made from and in the right ratios. Plants contain thousands of chemicals entirely foreign to our bodies.
I have been watching Dr Berg since 4 years & from then I am doing Keto, basically keto is very easy & versatile diet as compared to Carnivore, it is fancy & you can eat virtually any thing with allowed items, plant base or animal base. like Keto ice cream, keto sweets, animal proteins, olive oil, dairy products etc. that's why Dr Berg find it difficult to do pure Carnivore as he himself did keto for long time. My opinion is to do Keto regularly but if you are facing some severe problem than do Carnivore, which is the most powerful diet for multiple diseases.
Most people go over to carnivore because they are having effects from or problems moderating. I cannot eat one keto sweet snack. I'm going to eat the package. So for me abstence is easier. Sweets would be like asking an alcoholic to stick to one drink a day for me. Impossible. Food is the only thing we cannot totally abstain from. So for smokers, drug addicts including carbs, or drinkers abstinence is key.
Started the Atkins diet in 1995 and have been low carb ever since. In 2020 my carb intake got so low as to make me realize that by most accounts I was doing a carnivore diet. I almost never eat vegetables or fruits any more. I occasionally eat pecans. Not a pure obligate carnivore but certainly get nearly all of my calories from meat or dairy without the lactose. I think my health is quite a bit better than it was when I was consuming 50 grams of carbohydrate a day which is what I did for about 25 years. Humans did not domesticate an animal that could pull a plow till 6,000 years ago and the rising view in anthropology is that humans were hyper carnivores throughout the two million years of the paleolithic era. So although we don’t have randomized double blind peer reviewed trials, we do have two million years of anthropology that shows we predominantly ate meat.
As for prehistoric humans, consider how much energy it takes to gather enough plants just to get the calories to stay alive. Furthermore, much of the Earth only has seasonal plant foods for the most part. It is quite a challenge, without some technology, to store enough plant material to survive the cold months.
Probably a *lot* of animals would like dairy if they could consume it. Because they cannot consume it, many older animals would probably no longer be able to cope well with the lactose and/or proteins. Many humans that are from dairy consuming ancestry, particularly Europeans, are able to cope with dairy just fine. I'm one of them. I've had many cats and dogs that liked dairy. It would upset their stomachs if they consumed it regularly, so they rarely got it and it was always just a tiny amount.
I would argue they do eat dairy... Instead of milking the tits they just eat the tits unless it's been shown they don't eat those parts of the cow...? 😂
@@jonwelch564 Some people "think" that they're constipated because they don't have the need to poop every day anymore. And they think that it is normal to have bowel movement or even many a day. No more useless mass which just passes through so only fraction of the waste. Especially if one goes carnivore from plant heavy / carb lifestyle.
@@filipcza2 that's the problem, the slow transit of food through the large intestine, causes water to be removed from the stool in greater quantities. Because that's what the large intestine does. I've experienced this myself, and I'm not sure if eating more fat helps.
You started me on keto , I have put myself on carnivore to see if I can get rid of whatever plagues my ability to walk, cook clean, & ADL. I am trying to help myself hopefully God will do the rest
I commented on his video that he needed to do it longer than 2 weeks. At least a month to 3 months. I remember when I started keto, it took me about 3 weeks for it to get going and for me to really start seeing and feeling the effects.
Customization is the phase I’m in, this was helpful for me. Ketovore has achieved desired results and I recognize problem foods carnivore is the ultimate elimination process and the icing on the cake of what not to do.
I eat mostly carnivore. I do have a bit of cheese . In the summer I eat a tomato a day . In the spring I have some asparagus from my garden. But I am agreeing with you both . Great video
I was so happy to hear that Doctor Berg went carnivore .He's encouraging so many people to start this wonderful healthy way of eating for optimal health.
The amount is a lot, but the first thing a real carnivore eats after killing his prey is the contents of its stomach. That's greens...and in various stages of digestion. Then they lap up the raw blood, then the raw organs, then the sinew and muscle meat. Humans don't eat like this. But we can get pretty close and it seems to make a very big difference for the better for many. It's gotten rid of my arthritis...and it did that in 24 hours. Obviously losing the excess water helps, but it's sustained now for seven days. I'm doing a 30 challenge...so we'll see what else happens.
To each his own. I lost 180 lbs on Keto. I ate lots of salad during certain times and used some digestive enzymes to promote digestion. I've customized what works for me and it's been going well for 7 years now. It works and is working. Thank you.
I think if people did this in stages it would work better. 1)Eliminate processed foods. 2)Eliminate all fruit . 3)Eliminate soft drinks/snacks. 4)Reduce carbs by eating Broccoli and cauliflower, pecans and Brazil nuts for all carbs. While eating lots of fatty meat cooked in butter at home. 5)Begin IF or OMAD. 6)Reduce carbs to very small portions while increasing meat and fat. Doing it full force from day 1 is hard and has bad side effects. Most important that people don’t give up.
I was a fan of Dr. Berg and purchased many of his vitamins, but I did not like having to count carbs. The carnivore diet was the logical step for me and really fixed several health issues that included high blood pressure, Arthritis and a couple of open sores that would not heal until I made the switch to carnivore. I still have a strong addiction to sugar that I fight everyday and occasionally it wins, but at 73, the quality of my life has improved drastically. I no longer fear having my blood pressure taken during a check-up: always normal. We have been brainwashed into believing what is healthy is the opposite of reality.
I watched a recent interview on Steak and Butter Gal's channel and iirc the guy just ate a lot of bacon (*until he was stuffed) or another carnivore food when he had cravings for sugar. At some point his brain switched to wanting that instead of sugar.
@@jackberetta1 I'm not sure, because I got the supplements purchased and benefitted from a great deal of education about what is healthy from his videos. What ever his personal beliefs is between him and God.
Yes. Absolutely spot on in my own direct experience. We are each a unique individualized expression and it is such a shame when we approach all with a one-size-fits-all idea, very limited. I have learned to tune into my own body wisdom and tweak according to LOVES Guidance.
Very informative video. I almost stopped watching due to all the adds, but I did continue to watch through even with all the adds. Though I knew Dr. Berg would stay Keto and not strict carnivore. I’ve watched and followed him for years now.
I have a grass-fed tenderloin thawing for tomorrow lunch :) My idea of a salad is a chunky salad without leafy greens - avocado, tomato, okra, olives, maybe tofu -I love arugula and do grow it but only end up eating it a few months in the summer.
Dr. Berg is no longer my “go to” source for information or recommendations for my health-I prefer your channel and Dr. Ken Berry’s channel hands down!!!
So Dr berg started you on your road to heath, you made progress but now youre going to dump him without a thank you cuz you found someone who speaks to you more on your present level? @ladyw605 nice to hear your perspective. I appreciate the practitioners, like Westman, who actually roll up their sleeves and conduct well designed studies on the effects of diet on metabolic health - and then submit those studies for critical peer review before publishing. A two week carnivore “trial?” With no metabolic pre-post testing? With no peer review or publication? I’d be curious to see Dr Westman study a cohort of patients who go carnivore. I’m guessing it would last longer than 2 weeks, include a reasonably large number of participants, and produce much more lab data to evaluate any systematic metabolic effects. Big difference in approach. Big difference in mindset.
@ketolomics Dr berg was asked so many questions about it that he wanted to try it himself to get a better understanding of why it was bringing on so many positive changes for many people. He clarified that it was not a study just a mini experiment to see it's effects on him. Havent we all done something similar? I thought he was very upfront as to why he was going to try it. Said he couldn't give his opinion on the topic because he'd never studied nor experienced it- he could only say how it affected him. Pretty darn honest I'd say.
@@maritevans838 I never questioned Berg’s honesty. I,myself, eat a carnivore diet off and on and it works really well for me. Most of the time I eat a keto regimen of 20-30 carbs per day. When I feel my health may be reverting to any of my pre-keto maladies, I usually eliminate the carbs until I feel I am in control again. I stand firm that the best guidance I’ve found comes from Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Westman. Berg is not a medical doctor; hence, my preference for my guidance will continue to come from Drs. Berry and Westman.
@@maritevans838I appreciate your clarification. Was his trial honest? He ate a carnivore style for two weeks and described how he felt about it. We might say that he was honest about that. He said he missed his salads during the two weeks. Honest again. But was his trial a robust experiment? Could he, or we, draw any valid inferences from that design? He talked about effects on gut bacteria, for example. Did he conduct any measurements to identify before/after results? He mentioned energy level. He mentioned several factors that people have attributed to carnivore eating. But he measured none of the biomarkers that might have revealed functional changes in his metabolism that might have demonstrated alterations in his biochemistry and physiology. The average person on the street might try a diet or drug (call it a supplement) to find out how it "feels." They don't measure much - maybe their weight or maybe they keep track of symptoms of a pre-existing condition. This is amateur science, and fine as far as it goes. For a professional scientist or professional medical practitioner, people who have had extensive training in experimental design, the expectations for rigor are much, much higher than for the average person on the street. If I conduct what looks like a fair trial - but it's not really sound - I would be dishonest if I then shared my results as "valid" with a general audience who is unfamiliar with the risks of weak experimental designs. And yes, from a professional perspective I would call that misleading if the results are used to direct people away from one diet toward another. When a professional uses the appearance of science and the language of science but disregards the rules of sound experimental design - and a legitimate experiment can be conducted on a single individual - then yes, we need to be honest about the limits of the work and the need for sound practice, careful measurement, adequate duration, and valid inferences.
The hardest thing im dealing with is not actual hunger but mental hunger. Some days im truly not physically hungry at all but its like mentally i really want to eat so i eat and i want to get out of this. I get so cranky when i dont eat despite not feeling hunger
I started doing keto in March of 2023... the positive benefits were slow in coming. I had what you could call 'gluten gut', a bloated, uncomfortable abdomen. Even though I was keeping my carb intake very low, my blood glucose stayed high and I had what my doctor called 'fibromyalgia like; pain. When I went completely carnivore, I saw major changes happen in 2 weeks.
I went carnivore for two weeks. only two weeks because I miss not having salad. At least we kinda know where the limits on dietary behaviors and habits are for dr berg. I still like my salad or coffee or cheese or nuts and don't you dare get in my way for it or else... is an emotional behavioral and habitual thing not nutritional. Nothing wrong with having those 3 things but it's good to step out of your comfort zone or safe space to challenge yourself and to know your limits.
I've been on carnivore almost a year now... I feel my best when I eat one meal.a day at the break of light...water and coffee the rest of the days.... It eliminates any cravings for me. Its perfect.
I love your reaction. Very respectful. I am also having trouble with nuts and bloating. I'm doing Ketovore right now and I noticed that when I eat almonds, I get bloated and start burping. Need to cut those out and try another nut. I like having nuts & salads in my diet. Ty for posting
I wish I could stick to carnivore. I always feel better on it, but can’t seem to stay on it consistently. Too much love of the taste of foods. Still, I always go back to it, especially when I start feeling poorly. I know what makes me feel my best.
His product offerings are DWARFED by the VAST amount of wellness-oriented content he produces. I would not characterize him as merely "a product salesman".
Unfortunate that you feel this way… he really doesn’t even push his products. I think it’s important to remember who the bad guy is, and it’s certainly not dr. Berg…
good points, you're right that a lot of these influencer guys are fit as a fiddle so we should reflect on what they say and do with a pinch of salt. I was also persuaded by some videos I saw on fermented vegetables, but after several months I found they are also very high histamine, so I have taken them out of my diet for the time being.
I started what I call my initial modified version of the carnivore diet about 60 days ago. This means I have cut out all starches, seed oils, bread, vegetables and greens. I predominantly eat eggs, bacon, beef, butter, fish and some fruits like strawberries and pineapples. For the record my starting weight was approximately 210. My normal BP was about 136/96. I have been on BP meds (Losartan 100mg) for almost 20 years which dropped my normal "on meds" BP to about 126/86. . In this first 60 days I have dropped to 202 pounds so slow and steady but my BP dropped to 103/63. I am now off of my BP meds for the first time in 20 years and my normal BP is now 114/74. That to me says it all. I will continue to work closer and closer towards the lion diet version as soon as I can buy my first half cow. In addition I am now able to have two meals a day and try and eat all my food within a four to six hour window. Once a month I am starting to do a 24 hour fast. The hardest part of this new ancestorial way of eating is dealing with my immediate family members sold on the so called "Healthy balanced diet" Greens, veggies, a little protein and all the other so called healthy things they have sold us over the years. Big pharma and the big food companies have pushed the narrative that best fits their bottom line dollar and not our health.
I am day 6 of carnivore for weight loss and help with my post spine surgery cauda equina. Unfortunately diarrhea has been explosive and without warning/knowing - I can’t keep it up for this reason. My solution is to slowly reduce carbs over time Vs going straight to carnivore.
This is not unusual when starting out. Your gut bacteria will take time to adjust. Going slowly is the right approach. These symptoms will pass within a week or so. Don't give Up. Watch Dr Ken Berry on you tube or 5 minute body they cover these issues.
Thanks doc. I'm eating salted caramel cupcake watching this video. I did carnivore for several years and I'm experimenting by temporarily go back to carbs and sugars. I already noticed many negative changes. Like doctor Berg, I'm not going back to nuts and oxalates rich foods. I will go back to carnivore and occasionally include low sugar fruits.
Spinach and wwhite rice makes my body super sore. Carnivore has made me sensitive to foods i used to eat regularly. Im more animal based low carb now and not strict carnivore
I’ve been eating like Dr. Berg for about 5 years now. The health benefits of going from SAD to keto/low carb have been huge. I have some residual insulin resistance and plaque issues which make me consider Carnivore from a health standpoint but frankly cutting all the vegetables, berries and nuts from my diet doesn’t appeal to me. I’m not convinced that it’s healthier to do so, either, and I’m not one of those people who can’t tolerate vegetables, I really don’t experience bloating except with certain foods like beans that I rarely consume.
Dr Burg fixed my pre diabetes I was getting symptoms and searched online to see how I could reduce the diabetes issues and found his channel I felt better after 1 week of doing keto and fasting 18 hours stuck to it for a year I could literally feel thinner every morning I felt slimmer I couldn’t do it long then went back to normal I gained weight straight away 🤦♀️ so back on dirty keto lost a few stone but stuck so trying carnivore now makes me appreciate keto foods so probably go back to keto after my plateau has shifted x
I know Harvard did a study on carnivore diet. I’m a 70 year old woman with painful psoriatic arthritis in the early stage of carnivore. I’m hoping it will help slow down the inflammation process as well as healing diverticulosis.
He’s still addicted to carbs and doesn’t really want to let them go. When your default diet is meat (carnivore) and meat only. You have broken the carb addiction.
Yes yes yes!!!!!
It was Eric Berg who started me on my keto journey, but six months in I realised that I was getting no benefits from fruit and vegetables and gave them up.... Going carnivore was the best thing I ever did, fixing EVERY SINGLE THING that was wrong with me....
100% agree.
Same. carnivore took away ALL my ailments. Best of all BP went from extreme hypertension to Optimal in relative short time.
Please elaborate your ailments
My story is exactly the same except I did keto for 7 months, lol. Carnivore fixed everything, mentally and physically, and there was a lot to fix.
@@ballygrewal8183 I can elaborate mine if you want, but it will be a very long read. Just say the word and I'll type it up.
The man, the legend - Dr. Anthony Chaffee in the house!!
Keep up the good work man, your content is awesome!
Cheers brother!
Any reference to imperical evidence that backs this up?
@@absolootely2571It was a huge jump into health for me. I had not realised how bad vegetables are for my health. I won't eat vegetables again ever.
When my wife had Myastenia Gravis and Stage 4 Lymphoma we put her on the Max Gerson diet and in 9 months both illnesses were healed. That was in 2009. Today she is hale and hearty at 68. The Gerson diet is mostly non-meat and non-protein.
I guess we can say that any diet is healthy as long as you stay natural and stay away from processed foods
All natural foods are good. I've seen it in my own home, in my own family
Hello,I totally agree with you, however check the VEGETABLES that really is ok to eat

Dr. Berg saved my gall bladder. Always loved listeng to Dr. Westman also.
No you saved your gallbladder🤩
Since I stopped spending money on vegetables (which I dislike) I feel free to buy flowers instead. I get a lot more enjoyment from bouquets than I ever got from broccoli.
I was just imagining a bouquet of broccoli, with some celery for texture.
Flowers would be much better! 😁🌺🌸💐

❤ this makes me so happy to hear ❤️ beautiful! 💕🌸💕
Oh I just love your comment ❤🌹
Been following Dr Berg for years and still use some of his products! Well one year ago I started Carnivore and my vitamins and minerals balanced to perfect and hormones! WOW! Since then I have had to deal with Oxalate dumping!
Meats, eggs, and animal fats are now my friends! After 60 years of vegan, raw and vegetarian diets I am slowly losing weight, a lot of inches and blood sugar improving! Thank you Dr Berg!
60 YEARS as a vegan?!! How did you FEEL back then?
The last point you make is something that surprised me the most and people don't believe!
A tad bit embarrassed to say, but gas is something I want to get rid of. Does it almost go away completely?
@@jeremymoore7137 Thanks for the feedback! I know what I need to get rid of now!
How often are you going if you do not have constipation
Everyone needs to find what works for them for optimal health.
what a great story
Agree, very easy to go shopping with just buying meat.
I love my hamburger with eggs
@@carolmaplesden916
I add cheese to bulk up the burger with 2 eggs
I often find that the cheaper cuts of meat are the most nutritious. They tend to have more fat which makes the meats super tasty 🤤

2 weeks really isn’t long enough to explore the benefits of Carnivore.
No, but you will see things start to happen, and the longer you do it the more you will notice.
@@jonwelch564I do it for two weeks every year when my husband visits our oldest daughter and her family. I use it as a time to get all sorts of projects done. And not preparing vegetables, etc., saves time.

Maybe not long enough to see a difference, or maybe too close to what I do to make a difference. Who knows.

I’m grateful to Dr Berg for showing me the path to Keto, but only since going Carnivore have I found the greatest benefits

Same with me. Steak, eggs, bacon, butter, and salt. What could be easier?
It's great to just skip the non-carnivore sections. With that said, I am a fan of Dr. Berg. His formula got rid of my dandruff. Just that alone makes me love him.

I still very much enjoy his videos as a carnivore, and use them to help my husband who is more on the keto/vore spectrum.
Dr. Georgia Ede's overwhelming evidence pushed me decidedly over to the carnivore diet camp. And of course, Dr. Westman's determined and methodical approach is a force multiplier.

Well said, friend. Stay healthy.
Yup, we humans are preobligate carnivores
And it can change over time with different needs. Sometimes my cats munch on grass, it's probably some need they have that is gut related.
I agree with Dr Berg! I eat a meat-based diet with some vegetables but I have cut out nuts completely because they make me bloat.
Nuts are very hard to digest ... 😩
High in the plant poison oxalates. I got my first and hopefully last kidney
stone at 72 last year from snacking on cashews. Oxalates now give me
arthritis symptoms in my hips that go away if I stop them. Eggs and meat

You sound like a millenial. Low carbing started with William Banting in 1863. Berg is a chiropractor behind everyone else by over a century.
Along with citrus, red meat was used as a traditional preventive to scurvy. It has been hypothesized that it was probably the fact that sailors' diets were primarily biscuits and beer with tiny amounts of dried meat that led to the deficiency.
Anyone else has scurvy? Was there anyone else other than sailors?
Thank you very much Dr. Westmann for the excellent explanation of different ways to have a lower consumption of carbohydrates.
Dr. Sean O’mara swears by ferments and even put a video out about a recent study, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it.
Thanks for the video Doctor. Your response to Dr Bergs video was another valuable perspective. Many of us have learned a great deal from Dr Berg over the years. He IS a great educator and teacher telling the truth about diet, nutrition and the genuine science.
My diet as a ratio:
60% fat
25% protein
15% carb + fiber (popcorn and cabbage etc)
I take 1 meal in the morning and a very light keto snack about 3 pm. I walked 10,000 steps or do weight and tone exercise alternate days
I avoid sugar at all cost.
Popcorn is corn. Which raises your sugar and activates insulin. Thus stopping waste loss and etc
Hi Dr Eric Westman - just found your channel! Great stuff!! Thank you for the insights
Agreed!
Thanks Dr Westman.
The most indisputable evidence is that of N 15 isotopes which show that homo sapiens were more carnivorous than canines or hyenas.
As for prehistoric humans, consider how much energy it takes to gather enough plants just to get the calories to stay alive.
Furthermore, much of the Earth only has seasonal plant foods for the most part.
It is quite a challenge, without some technology, to store enough plant material to survive the cold months.
Wolves don’t consume dairy because they lack opposable thumbs to milk the cow or churn the cream. 😆😆🧀🧀
Humans are also capable of raising and caring for milk cows. Other carnivores can only kill for the meat.
a good one.
I would argue they do eat dairy... Instead of milking the tits they just eat the tits unless it's been shown they don't eat those parts of the cow...? 😂
Carnivores eat milk when they kill a mother.
Thank you, Dr. Westman.
Love Dr. Berg. Love the fact that he shares his knowledge. Like many on YT. That you all for sharing.
I've yet to see anyone who gave the carnivore diet a good 90 days have a negative result. We are all the same species.
Some don't get that far as they get constipated. I know someone like that, and you can't persuade her otherwise despite her poor health.
I've seen plenty over the last couple of years.
lol.
Two weeks really isn't long enough but at least he's gotten rid of the nuts.
why is getting rid of the nuts important?
@@jasonblais1667people react badly to nuts. inflammation. bloating. oxalates, toxins ect.
Nuts are a cheap oil with little value to our diet- tons of mold and gut busting fibers.
@@jasonblais1667 For Dr Berg, he found he had bloating eating nuts.
I have just moved to the keto diet and satiety is a huge plus. I am not really hungry at all.
I love the carnivore diet. Its easy and stress free. I don't have to think about what to cook. My stomach feels very calm and I have perfect poos 😂
I'd be here all day if i listed all the health benefits i got since going carnivore. And Dr Berg is the one that got me into it 😊
I eat mostly carnivore. I do have a bit of cheese . In the summer I eat a tomato a day . In the spring I have some asparagus from my garden. But I am agreeing with you both . Great video
I always love the way you disagree with people it is always professional and without vitriol !!
Paid
But the likes of Ken Berry and Kelly Hogan, and Dr Brightman extol the benefits of high fat diet.
I was so happy to hear that Doctor Berg went carnivore .He's encouraging so many people to start this wonderful healthy way of eating for optimal health.
It was only a matter of time before he switched over to carnivore.
Having to eat 8-10 cups of greens per day is INSANE.
Thank you Dr. You started me on the keto journey since 2018.
She is one of my favorites to watch. Bacon is good and sugar is bad.@@w1975b
Well said
All your money went to Scientology church
@@jackberetta1 I'm not sure, because I got the supplements purchased and benefitted from a great deal of education about what is healthy from his videos. What ever his personal beliefs is between him and God.
Yes. Absolutely spot on in my own direct experience. We are each a unique individualized expression and it is such a shame when we approach all with a one-size-fits-all idea, very limited. I have learned to tune into my own body wisdom and tweak according to LOVES Guidance.
I do very well with dairy, but feel tired and hungry without it. I think it depends on your Ansestry.
I'm Dutch, so yes. 50 grams of cheese per day keeps hunger at bay. Dutch cheese. Not processed plastic cheese.
I’m Albanian. I eat yogurt and hard cheese daily. I feel hungry and not as strong without them.
Its probably a lack of fat. I crave milk and cream when im tired or after a workout. And I drink a ton of 🥛
Very informative video. I almost stopped watching due to all the adds, but I did continue to watch through even with all the adds. Though I knew Dr. Berg would stay Keto and not strict carnivore. I’ve watched and followed him for years now.
Carnivore was the best thing I did for myself.
I always love to watch your videos
He tried only 2 weeks adaption is usually more than 2 weeks
We all look to higher level info once we master the basics. There's someone for everyone of us on step of our path. Just give thanks and credit to the one's who got you ready for your next level of learning.
How will he ever sell supplements to carnivores. I’ve become medicine and supplement phobic.
I see a trend. Many of us started with keto and ended up carnivore.
If this was during January then In my book dr Berg basically failed to complete world carnivore month
Carblets! I loved that word, Dr. Westman!
I love seeing doctors that do the test that actually use their brain hallelujah thank you so much😊😊😊
I wish I could stick to carnivore. I always feel better on it, but can’t seem to stay on it consistently. Too much love of the taste of foods. Still, I always go back to it, especially when I start feeling poorly. I know what makes me feel my best.
This is the best advice I have had to date as I’m disabled unable to work out so this cleared up a few things just realistic 👍🏼
He was my chiropractor in Georgia, really good at that... Became a product salesman.
Interesting I did not know that.
Berg…
@ryanheyboer1353 you might not be in the U.S., every time I open a video him and his products are in my algorithm...
Rather flippant I say. I never feel lured into buying his products and I've learnt so much from him. He's gone his own way and succeeded tremendously.
good points, you're right that a lot of these influencer guys are fit as a fiddle so we should reflect on what they say and do with a pinch of salt.
Great work!
Thanks
I am day 6 of carnivore for weight loss and help with my post spine surgery cauda equina. Unfortunately diarrhea has been explosive and without warning/knowing - I can’t keep it up for this reason. My solution is to slowly reduce carbs over time Vs going straight to carnivore.
This is not unusual when starting out. Your gut bacteria will take time to adjust. Going slowly is the right approach. These symptoms will pass within a week or so. Don't give
Up. Watch Dr Ken Berry on you tube or 5 minute body they cover these issues.
Dial back your fat intake. Increase slowly
Just cut out sugar, grains, vegetable oils, and chemicals, and your body will flourish.
Agree
Thank you!
Personally, I get infrequent cravings for specific things like cucumber or an orange, say once or twice a month, and I eat it.
Yes once a month it's an apple for me
I dont get thirsty for days sometimes, but I force myself to drink anyway.
Carnivore and sometimes Ketovore are the only way I can lose weight and I feel pretty good too!
lol no - have you tried _fasting_ - that is by far the quickest and easiest way to lose weight.
I know Harvard did a study on carnivore diet. I’m a 70 year old woman with painful psoriatic arthritis in the early stage of carnivore. I’m hoping it will help slow down the inflammation process as well as healing diverticulosis.
I do almost carnivore, and I feel great 🎉
I am a 70 year old male, 5'10" 165lbs. I had a CAC scan and the resulting CAC score was 2073.
Is a KETO/Carnivore diet safe for Me?
He’s still addicted to carbs and doesn’t really want to let them go. When your default diet is meat (carnivore) and meat only. You have broken the carb addiction.
I like both Dr. Erics
both Dr "bergs" are good too - Ekberg, and Berg. :-)
Two weeks isn't enough time. Going carnivore can take up to 90 days. Also you should gradually go carnivore, not over night
I think that it takes 2 weeks to feel well or start feeling well
A very cordial review 👍🏼
