I think his best performance is this version's "Kodachrome" at central park in this summer. So, I've been looking for this version's clip all the time... No way, the original attempt was performed in my home country! Thanks so much. It's a genuine legacy for the next generation... ;-)
Paul Simon's song = he can play it anyway he wants. Stay at home and listen to the album if that is your preference. If you respect and honor his talents and the musicians he surrounds himself with then any version of this song is a gift.
C'mon people - in America we pronounce it Nai-Kahn, but in Japan it would be pronounced Nee-Cone (like Ice Cream Cone). He's switching it up for the home audience.
Yes, a period of significance in photography, especially in photo slide genre, where colors and forms are almost real and 3-dimensional is closing its doors. Thanks to George Eastman, with Kodak, photo and cinematography came to as what they are with the advance of the digital tech. This Paul Simon song is a fitting tribute, indeed.
The lyric change to "Everything looks better in black and white" foreshadows the moment when mama did take his Kodachrome away years after this performance. Many former Kodachrome diehards are now reacquainting themselves with B&W film.
C'mon people: in America we pronounce it Naiyahn, but in Japan they pronounce it Nee-Kohn. He switched it up to make it sound right to the home audience.
So much fresher and original sounding than the original. I think this is one of the best reworkings he ever did. I am actually shocked people don't like it. I even hear some ska worked in there. It's great!
they are the right chord changes, he's just playing substitutions with some dissonant extensions, Paul probably had the idea! Knowing his love for jazz and more complex chords!
Come to think of it, are these not the same musicians he played with on "Graceland". That explains why he changed the sound then! My bad. He was using his songs to promote their sound. I thought I noticed him slipping up @ 2:11
@kbodonne Nice observation, man. But i think the piano player, yeah, probably he hits a wrong chord. But you know? In my opinion i think that chord produces a nice tension to be resolved in the next beat. I LOVE THIS VERSION, is quite similar to the "Concert in The Park" version, PLUS that bass arrangement at 1:28 . Armand Sabal Lecco RULES! ;D I feel this version QUITE NATURAL.
As someone who has always enjoyed processing my own slides, I'm even more distraught that they're taking my Ektachrome away. But I guess it's inevitable.
if this was the original version it would never have been played on the radio. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists turned into a horrible mess, yech
It's Paul's song and he can do whatever he likes with it - including ruin it, which he does in this performance. But, of course, that's just my opinion.
is this also the reason that pioneer wont release these epic concerts in central park and tokio on dvd? because he mentioned a freaking knee con camera? f... me
usually I like it when artists change up the way they sing certain songs live, but this one isn't included in that exception.......the album version is better in my opinion
I know, he is a jack ass for ruining this song, but I still love Paul Simon on wax. I just found a record at the flea market with him and Art called "Tom and Jerry". One of their first recordings. They sounded a lot like the Everly Brothers then.
Have to agree with you Luke. I love Paul, but for me this version takes away from the way the original. It was simple, and just had a certain feel to it that gets lost in this version....for me anyway
Sometimes these live performances can mess about with a track too much. This is a fabulous track by a fantastic musician/singer but this version is awful. The original is an amazing track and Simon is such a talent but I hate this. Give me the original every time.
WHY DO MUSICIANS HAVE TO FUCK UP THERE OWN SONGS??????? THE VERSION THAT MADE IT A BIG EFFIN HIT, IS PROLLY THE VERSION EVERYONE WANTS TO HEAR!!!!!!! YA THINK!!!!!!! BOB DYLAN IS NOTORIOUS FOR THAT AS WELL!!!
I know it sounds bad, but I've got to be honest. Out of all the re-dos by the original artists I just don't dig this sound. I think he was letting himself be influenced by too many black musicians. Either that or his short man syndrome was doing something off the wall to him.
I love how he says "nee-kohn" instead of "ny-kawn" for the Nikon camera line, since he's in Japan. Classy touch.
I think his best performance is this version's "Kodachrome" at central park in this summer.

I love the song. Kodak times! Paul Simon is fantastic!
What a jam!
What cool version ,Armand really tears it up.Cant go wrong with a Alembic.
Sounds like if Kodachrome was on Graceland.
That's how you perform.
Give the audience an almost newer version of what they wanted to hear. Nice
C'mon people - in America we pronounce it Nai-Kahn, but in Japan it would be pronounced Nee-Cone (like Ice Cream Cone). He's switching it up for the home audience.
Excellent
僕のニコンで撮ったコダクロームとエクタクロームは今でも輝いていますよ!

This version of Kodachrome is just straight up sick! It is better than on the original record.
just saying this is the best bass player to ever live
@AdrianSuh I find this great! :)
Thanks for sharing!
I am glad that you were brave enough to express your opinion. I agree with you. You have some good ears my friend.
As good as it gets!
can't find it on cd but its on 'youre The One In Concert Paul Simon recorded live in Paris dvd this version of .Kodachrome was one of the encores
The lyric change to "Everything looks better in black and white" foreshadows the moment when mama did take his Kodachrome away years after this performance. Many former Kodachrome diehards are now reacquainting themselves with B&W film.
Please check 2:24, after 2nd verse.
You can hear Knee-con. ;-)
C'mon people: in America we pronounce it Naiyahn, but in Japan they pronounce it Nee-Kohn. He switched it up to make it sound right to the home audience.
Thank you for putting me straight. I will, in future, always endeavour to ensure that my views are in accord with yours.

no, it is endlessly inferior.
@@purvisvandongen4258 Well, perhaps I exaggerated, the original is great. But I still say this is a brilliant re-working on par with the original.
The bass (Armand Sabel-Lecco) is the driving force with a nice African touch.
ああああーー、ポール!あんたはサイコ―!!!!!!!

But check at 1:15 and you'll hear him pronounce it NI Kon.
Well... it is his song...
офигенно!

@leewardstyle 1st time he sings nai kon, but next time (verse) he actually sings knee kon
Just heard that Kodak is indeed taking his Kodachrome away. They are doing away with it as no one uses it anymore due to digital photography. Sad.
if this was the original version it would never have been played on the radio. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists turned into a horrible mess, yech

Cocaine is a hell of drugs folks, geez 1990 concerts lol😅
This version is so bad that I couldn't stand to watch it to the end.

Is this version of Kodachrome on any live albums?

wait, I hear him say NAI KON in this video. Not NI KON (knee con). He's still pronoucing it wrong.

@spelit83 "Your jury is biased, your judgement shallow. Get out of your box!" I'd hate to hear waht you'd say if you WERE putting someone straight.
Kodak batmasaydi daha iyi olurdu ... Hayırlısı
pokemon go
Like the original much better. This version has too much ethnic influence in it's sound.
Sometimes these live performances can mess about with a track too much.

not the best version

What a crap version. GG
He sounds out of sync with the rest of the band
