Surprise Winner in 2021 450 MX Shootout!

- With the exception of the new 2021 Honda CRF450R, refinement was the name of the game in the 450 class as small changes - rather than major overhauls - highlight the Husqvarna FC 450, Kawasaki KX450, and KTM 450 SX-F. The Yamaha YZ450F, meanwhile, returns unchanged save for some cool new graphics. As the 2020 SML Bike of the Year, though, did it need any updates?
We've been comparing ever since we started taking delivery of the 2021s way back in July and after one final day of back-to-back testing the five bikes (Suzuki is unchanged and unreleased at the moment and the Gas Gas MC 450F won't hit US shores for at least a month), our panel of six test riders arrived at a verdict and crowned the 2021 450 MX Bike of the Year. - Спорт
“I ride this bike mainly and so that’s the one I chose.”
Hard blow to Honda for a completely redesigned bike and places last
Next year it might be first
Doesn’t help half the riders picked the bikes they regularly ride because they felt the most ‘comfortable’ on it
Michael Srite dumbest thing I read all day.
I was expecting it to atleast place 2nd or 3rd
Reminds me of when they went to aluminum frames . The bikes sucked until they worked the bugs out.
Use me as the I've never ridden a 450 but always watch these videos 😅
I tried to ride a 500 couldn't get it past second gear
Marvin Starr haha
Wooow you’re too loud my guy
matt - probably because you've been riding since you were five.
Same!
Sweet❗Thanks swap for getting after it and not keeping us waiting.👍
Can't wait for next year's 450 shootout when there will be 3 KTMs in it
He'll take the green one!
Nice cold soda pop
He chose orange tho...
donny another 4 hahaha
“Ride Red” #buttery
Chooses KTM both times
Kxf won let’s go
so happy i just bought a 21 450 and 250 KX, im 45 and my son is 13, I think were going to have a blast with the Kwakas
Steve from Australia
Did you get your 13-year-old son a 250? I just put my 14-year-old on a '21 YZ450F today and heck, he could touch and hold it up. I was shocked and so was he. First thing he said was Dad, maybe instead of an 85 I should get a 250... Looking forward to your response.
@@richreynolds3647 depending on his size an 85 can rip. I wanted to jump up as a kid, but was advised by pros to stay on the 85 till I was too old to. I think it set a better foundation by staying on the smaller bike for longer. I learned to control the bike better by staying on the small one for as long as possible.
@@mikeraskin7319 thank you Mike!
@@mikeraskin7319 l es www ok see all
@@richreynolds3647 get him the 250 but obviously make him wear all his gear every time he rides man. I was riding a 2006 GSXR 600 on the streets at 15 I’m sure he can handle it.
I’ve literally been waiting for since the day last years shootout came out
Nice job Swap and Crew. Especially good is the Rock Music with lead guitars!
Will wait for the rmz450!
I'm stoked to see the KX take the win here. I'm happy with my 2019 KX450 after coming off a 2014 YZ450. The narrow feel and cornering capabilities of the KX were the selling points for me. Although, the Yamaha had a stronger engine, the KX450 still has plenty of power when revved. And it was a no-brainer when Kawasaki went back to spring forks.
Even though I haven’t thrown a leg over a motocross bike since 1989, I still love to watch these shootouts👍😂.
Thanks for pointing out it is just your guys opinion. Everyone's riding style is different so that said the bike for you will be different. Great comparison to why you picked what you did. 👍
Spot on I’ve just got the 21 kxf450 because I’ve never had a KX and I just want to see what it’s like
Who else’s opinion would it be?
Always nice to see this!
great video! It's interesting to me to listen to all the different rider's feedback and see what bike is the overall best
Great job as always SML .. THNX and continued success fellas... ✌ Old G
Really enjoyed your shootout. Thanks for sharing. Only critique I’d offer is about the track. I don’t see how you can really draw any conclusions about suspension or even fully understand chassis feel on a track with almost no bumps. The bar talk summary was a great addition!
If you ever need a below the knee amputee 450 test rider im your man!! Swap moto shoot outs helped me pick out my bike last year, thank again for the content
That outtro by swap was by far the BEST and most honest statements said thus far!
Ill take any color ! Im broke as covid
I feel like would choose the Ktm , love mine.
Love my 2021 kx450f easy to ride comfort but also a weapon💯🔥
Finally shootout time🥰
No Suzuki 😂 they couldn’t get the bike started to make the cut😂
St.HelenBoys lmao
Honestly I love the rmz450 I've rode a crf450 and yz450f and the rmz was the most fun
Suzuki trash
@@googlereviewer6674 at least in my opinion people don’t trash Suzuki just bc they are still kickstart
Haha
The Honda 450 came out great That's my favorite 450 bike same as a Husky.
I'll be keeping my '20 kx 450. Love the bike.
Thanks everyone for the great shootout!
Blucru is setting the standards , But I agree Kawasaki is the second brand actually ready to ride off the showroom floor :)
I would probably like the KX but quality has been a problem for Kawasaki since at least the late 1980s. I had to laugh when Donn said it feels long because that's what I said 28 years ago about my '92 KX250. It inspired confidence just like he said. Now I'm on a 2020 YZ450 and love it.
as we all should know by now, there is no bike far superior to another ? Its been this way for the past 40 yrs. Take any one of those bikes and add a couple things here & there and of course the most important part, the rider, and you will be competitive! INCLUDING Suzuki !! don't make me have to remind you of their past history!! lol
I have a 2012 rmz 450. Never touched the engine. Just change the oil and filter. Still starts first kick with over 150 hours.
@@MDaDonLegacy Nice bike!! and you take good care of it, thats what matters.
Nice vid and report as usual!
did they change the color of the kawi to a darker green?
All these bikes are awesome!! Pick the one that fits you and go with it
BUTTERY!!!
how is the kawisaki 11lbs lighter than the Yamaha? air forks? both bikes were wet.
how do you have a quality, thorough shootout in one day?
KAWI is king. The only brand of them all that’s main focus is motorcycles. Not surprising they are the best.
WHy is it so hard to find bike horsepowers?
Pretty crazy how certain bikes fit certain riding styles better than others.
Watched it very interestingly as a fan of Honda. Thank you for the video!
It’s nice to see the Kawasaki getting some love. I’m so used to seeing it get shit on time and time again
awe man no love for the husky, perhaps the red ktm will win next year.
In curious too about the new gas gas models. My concern is there just won't be the same parts supply as the white and orange ones. Red is a cool color though👍
KTM said the Gas Gas bikes will be their budget bikes thus I don't guess they'll win the shootout. I've seen that they are missing for example the power bomb exhaust system.
Mike Hansen that’s not a powerbomb but ok
Good job Swap!
Lets goo kawi 2021
450 shootout. Vital MX had a different outcome. The track plays a big part as does rider experience and preferences.
If you guys could list your height, weight & skill level that’d help me being taller & heavier than the targeted group that the bikes are ultimately designed for.
Let's gooooo!
So which 450F should you buy? 250SX 💨
Im confused on this shootout🤷
How do you test these bikes when the track is dead smooth ?
I filmed in the morning. They rode throughout the day.
How do you get a final result in one day on a smooth track every bike would be different on all kinds of tracks?
You mean the one other track.
I’m referring to testing all tracks - GH , Fox, Perris , Chauilla, LACR and Elsinore Etc - Etc endless hours of testing
Thanks from italy swap moto
Bruh buttery got the sweet shades! 😂
I'll wait for the mxa shootout
The cash for comment mag haha. They are owned man mxa is Austrian propaganda
Nice work Donny! Good to see your back on the bike. #mullethunter4life MickyV OUT
Buttery with the unbiased opinion. Nice
I have 2020 kx450 that’s dialed. Kawis always work best for me. I can’t think of any bike that would be better than I currently have. At 42 I’m good with my bike.
When are we gonna see the 250s
Green machine is slowly coming back baby.
Scouse Yukon yeah
Why shows ktm/husky dry weight and Japanese wet weight?
probably because they are reporting what the manufacturers report. The KTMs should give wet weight since that's how we ride them.
It is about Market Confusion. KTM holds 7 Liters of Gasoline which weighs 11.56lbs or 5.24 kilograms. The KTM/Husky weighs 100kg or 220.46. Add that up and 232.02lbs or 105.24 Kilograms Wet. 10lbs less than the Kawi, 12lbs less than the Yamaha. Almost all of which is the Air Forks over Springs, the Springs weigh that much. It is a large gap but its not 30lbs like people are saying in these comments. One shoot out says the Yamaha is 10lbs more than the Kawi, the Kawi is only 2.1lbs lighter. Anyways.
Buttery chose the ktm last year too. I was surprised he didn't jump to Ktm when he got his new bike this year
I was thinking the same thing he’s a Honda boy , but that ktm though?
I'd take the Yamaha myself
Yamaha this year only 250 is worth it
That Yammie is heavy! I wonder if the riders noticed that considerably or if it handles its weight well.
This is back when the YZ450F Won the Shootout 2 years in a row
so im assuming suzuki is 6th place? & why no gas gas in the test no real need to test a 3rd ktm?
Let’s go glad I picked the right bike
My favorite KX 450 the best ride with Eli Tomac
Buttery knows what’s up
The YZ450F is better because it still has the Cable clutch so it’s OG and faster than the kawi
YAMI_BROTHAS Nice point. However I still like the Kawi
I ride Suzuki RM125 and have 2 machines from 2007 and my previous was a 99 before that a Honda CR125 from 1993
I have only tiden one 450 and that was a suzuki from 2009 love the way it pulls. But if I was to buy one I wold have to look closer. For me it's important that you can work on the basic things without taking the machine apart.
I can't chance a sparkplug on my RM without moving a bracket or other prices. And also it's worth finding a machine where parts are easily accessible. KTM have that covered pretty good in denmark.
I didn't notice if Honda has change to a single silencer because that would be awesome. Then there is one less thing to break😂
It's important that you try the machine. To feel it and se how it's fits you.
Just because it feels comfortable doesn’t always mean it’s fast.
Comfortable is fast...
Connor has the best vlogs on UA-cam 👌buttery🔥
I’ll take the red one 🤘🤘
Love connors look😂😂
These guys have sponsors they should have people who ain't sponsored so it's fair
I'm not a pro ride at all, but suspension can easily be changed or adjusted. SGB racing did my whole suspension on my 02 ktm 200sx and it's awesome
Only one question why is Ronnie Mac not there to test the Hondas?
What score would uncle Ron give A 1998 CR250R with chopped fenders and screamed eagle graphics? 0-10?
I'll take a new KX250 2 stroke over all those if they would bring them back. I just bought a 03 that I'm about to rebuild.
cool
Hell yeah bro wanna go crash some freshman fifteens in the quad later? I’ve had four beers and I’m ready to punch my wife.
Fuck off with your Kx, there’s a reason these have continued with r&d , don’t get me wrong I love a nice 2 stroke, but you seem like you wear a rockstar tapout shirt, no more to say really
So cool! KX is the best for me too. I ride the 2020 450 kx. Wondering if I get the 2021 250 kx or the 450.
Alex would stick with the 450 🤪
For weekend warriors == what color do you want...
450cc is too much for me, think i'm gonna go KTM 350..
same. Love mine.
You won't regret it. Love my 2020. Might go husky 2021.
350 is the way to go in this class for the average rider, you will get quicker faster and have more fun doing it. Make sure you have fresh tyres/tires, its the best go faster goodie of all, especially in corners.
Yup that’s what I went with and it’s amazing
Hey guys nice review, could you include each rider's riding ability under their name next time?
BUTTERY FOR PRESIDENT!!!
And he builds a sick 110 track on the White House lawn!!
In another video with these bikes in a shootout swap talked so highly about the Yamaha and so did the others. Swap said he’d pick the Yamaha but chose the Kawasaki only cause because he remembers his brother rode Kawasaki.
BLU CRU💙💙💙
Suzuki where you at? You run so smooooth!
Is that a remix or just straight up rip of “Hey Man Nice Shot”?
I really hope Suzuki pull something magic out soon. I think the rmz is a great bike but just falling behind a bit now. Or maybe they might give up altogether?
KX450 💚
This is a riders opinion. Riders size and style of riding. So how much does the actual bike play ?
Husqvarna is soooooo gorgeous
Wish that Kawy had a offroad line!
Pat always picks Yamahas I swear. Since like 2013
Moto 37 not his fault it happens to be his favorite
Chazz Gonzalez no doubt I get that. I was just looking back recently at some old shootouts and dude has never picked anything but the Yamaha.
Chazz Gonzalez you cant go wrong with the Yamaha. You absolutely don’t need aftermarket exhaust or mods to the motor. Also I’ve seen so many Yamaha motors get well over 100 hours and the valves never been shimmed. My son has 151 hours and the valves were still In spec.
Hey Kurtis. You are right... the last few years the Yamaha has really fit me. But if you go back a couple more years, (around 2015/2016 I think) you'll see I was really into the Suzuki for a couple years. The motor was exciting and the cornering was amazing. In fact, I took the Suzuki home for at least two or three years in a row. Unfortunately for them, everyone stepped up their game while the RMZ got stagnant. I miss those bikes before the last frame change - even though a lot of people hated them, mostly because of the air fork. I appreciate the fact that you have been with us so long - thank you!!!
@@patfoster4607 Thanks for the reply. No doubt the suzukis have great cornering, i myself have had a 2011 and still have my 2013 rmz250 today and still love riding the thing. I am currently in the market for a new yz250f or possibly yz450 so your insight on those bikes are always appreciated.
It seems everyone wants to be the 1st to get this out. Cahuilla dosent get super rough. Why not do your test here and then hit glen helen where it gets super rough where you can really see what the chassis and suspension feels like? Seems like it would be more beneficial.
buttery an raha save Moto from being played out.
The best 2021 450 to buy is a KTM 350 :)
You notice his pick was the KX450F upgraded a lot new clutch bars and other things
suzuki and yamaha
Crf gang
You guys should do gas gas
Why not put all white plastics on all the bikes and just number them and see if it’s the same result
Kx baby
I really like the simple graphic of the honda, mostly red. I hate stickers of 4545 different colours
Team green baby
