- Which is our pick for the best 2021 450cc motocross bike? It's Shootout time between the 2021 Honda CRF450R, Husqvarna FC 450, Kawasaki KX450, KTM 450 SX-F, and Yamaha YZ450F. Unfortunately, the Suzuki RM-Z450 was omitted because the unchanged 2021 model was not in the country at the moment. However, we still had a stacked field of bikes for our 2021 Vital MX 450 Shootout, so take a seat, click play, and enjoy.

Not me.... I don't care. I ride a KTM but couldn't care less what wins. The only thing that matters is do YOU like the bike you ride. If so you are on the best bike.

I think this format is great, so much of riding is subjective, along with everyone being a different body type which contributes along with riding style and it’s hard to quantify it using a specific scoring system. That doesn’t cover the nuances, this does! Great job guys!

I just bought a used 2020 kx450f with 5 hours like new and this made me frl even better about it!
I love this way of doing shootouts with actually just talking about he bikes! I have 18 ktm 450 and my son has 19 kawasaki 450...from day one the kawasaki is more comfortable standing up around corners. I'm curious if the newer ktms match that feeling?
Was surprised to hear the more negative feedback for the Husky this time around, as it sounded like the changes were an improvement last time around. I have a 21 FC 350, so the 450 motor stuff doesn't apply to me, but as a shorter rider, I love the bike. I did go up to a stiffer rear shock (and went stiffer on the front PSI to balance it a bit). My favorite bike by far

I’m red till I’m dead no matter what I will never ride these bikes to their potential anyways so it don’t matter where they land in the test I’m sticking with Honda reliability for me but if I was to switch it would be blu cru for sure And the truth of the matter is all these bikes are so good today because these manufacturers keep pushing one another to be the best so in the end we win because it’s hard to buy a bad one now days 👍👍👍
Yamaha is definitely the most reliable, especially after the Honda valve problems.

I understand that they said it was hard to control, but power and very long lasting engine's makes me like Yamaha more than I already did. I've owned a lot of Yamaha and never replaced a single piston. Proof, I own/owned: a 08 Raptor 700r just needed a fuel pump rode it yesterday, Raptor 660 idk electric start problems sold it, 07 Raptor 250 2 new starters and carb because the fuel/air mixture screw broke off and got really stuck in the carb, 02 Raptor 80 sold it 13yrs later because nobody knew how to clean a carb, 07 Raptor 50 3 years Too slow sold it, 2000 rebuilt YZ80 used bought in 10 carb clean, new chain, new shift shaft, used 03 Rm65 bought in 13 Chain kept getting lodged into the Generator sold in 18, used 02 CR250r bought in 2021 my current battle Way to rich, JD jetting kit worked bad clutch drag cuz HP Honda 80-85 sucks.
Kawasaki must've finally sent that check.

Kawasaki had zero changes and KTM almost nothing. Most test riders can not tell the difference between 2020 models and 2021.

Why only keep it to the big bike makers. I've been looking for a dual use bike. One for warm weather then modded to a snowbike. I'm really leaning towards a Beta 480 /500. Cost is substantially less for a bike that is on par with other bikes.
little changes on other bikes that was on top of the other brands but ended up complaining about it that it isnt working right anymore =)

Can someone please explain how the Yamaha went from 1st in 2020 to 4th in 2021 when no changes were made on really any bike other than the Honda? I ask because im genuinely curious... different riders?
Kawi and husky got some pretty big changes. Maybe seem small but the changes make a pretty big effect on the bike. And just because a winner had no changes doesn’t mean it should still finish first. That’s not how it works

You mean Horrible fueling, bad suspension and bad suspension? Yep great times... I'd take the Kawasaki or Yamaha over any of the other for that alone. Plus the Honda ergonomics are tiny. They only suit smaller riders.
If you don’t like red then you just have to settle for your favorite color and ride it ‘til the brakes fall off and you will be as fast as any of the other bikes. Facts.

Here is why I like the 2019-2021 Kawi. I can not tell you how many times I have saved it with this bike. The front end has this really strange (and good) characteristic, where if you start to lose the front end, it will slide in a very stable manner for what seems like forever (probably actually less than a second) and you can save it. I have had people following me say they were sure I was "going down low side hard" and "how the heck did you save that". I have never ridden another bike that does that.

GasGas is a ghost bike, you hear about it, but we'll never really see it. I am very disappointed at the lack of coverage good or bad on GasGas. They deserve to be ripped on at least for not delivering on their promise of September bike deliveries. I have had an MX450 ordered since the dealer could, and it just is silent and no explanation.

I would totally buy a kawasaki,but the muffler on that thing is just an eye sore..
I just traded my '19 yz450 in for a '21 kx450 and yeah the muffler is HUGE and ugly. At the very least a fmf slip on will be ordered very soon.

@@shawntheo1603 both are great. I think the yz pulled harder everywhere but the kx is a bit smoother. The kx starts much faster. The yz took a while to start sometimes and especially when in gear where the kx doesn't hesitate at all.
Does Suzuki expect to sell any bikes this year, apparently they have made no changes from last year and can’t even get one bike to a single shootout. If they haven’t made any new changes then wtf?

It all depends on the person riding style there is not one good bike they are all so close to the same in all reality most average riders will not notice a difference , and more experienced riders will get the suspension re done anyways to there weight so pick a colour and shape you like and ride

Honda also has the ECU issue with it cutting out which lets be honest shouldn't be happening especially with it being fuel injected...Most testers I have seen are saying just stick with the 20 lol
I think with the education issue worked out and if it had kyb suspension it would be much better

Honda has ECU issues and is a heavier bike. Heavy enough to really make a difference. You would be better served getting a Beta. By doing so you save several thousand $ which can be spent on a trip or mods. It is just a better bike than the Honda

Thank god for KTM. They have been leading the way since the 2012.5 Factory Edition/ Dungey Replica 450. KTM has forced all other brands to up their game. As a result all bikes are amazing these days......... well, except the Suzuki

If the Suzuki is unchanged, then why not include a 2020 Suzuki in the shootout? At least then people would know how it stacks up relative to the competition. Makes no sense at all that you needed to wait to receive a bike with an updated serial number.
We had a 2021 model in our 2022 Shootout we published about two months ago.

It's crazy how they act like the Suzuki is crap but it's because it doesn't have a e start just a kickstart. But how can you be mad when you're saving so much money over the other brands. They absolutely rip too. I have a 2009 Suzuki 450 and a 2004 ktm 450 and the Suzuki is much more of a beast
People don’t want kickstart they want E-start. That’s why I’m getting a new bike. I’m sick of kick start. Also want 4T over 2T.
I think the issue is you riding and comparing anything to a 2004 ktm 😂. Ktm of that era were for, let's just say, the more enthusiastic owners of euro brands.

I just bought 2020.5 Husqvarna 450 Rockstar over the 2021 Husqvarna FC or 2021 KTM SX-F, why? Race ready and it's basically the same as the 21. I am glad I did. I almost bought Kawasaki KX 450 but didn't because of the Aluminum frame and Quality. Also Husqvarna has a 30 day Warranty and offers 24 months warranty, on a dirt bike! I bought it.
The 2020.5 Rockstar is the same as the 21 fc450 beside all the bling and better graphics.
2020 kx450 is a good as well as the 21 but the Husky is lighter and skinnier. Husky feels like a smaller bike than the KX.
One thing I have found is the husky is sometimes kinda hard to get it learned over and stay in the ruts.
The FCP mounts will fix this

If your keeping it for a while go with the kawi the only company with the full refresh and the rest of the bikes are mid cycle refresh

@@Catman1987 get the Ride End link... Also put a 2018 rear brake rotor and carrier on it. Increase the spring rate on the front a little if you are over 180#. Then go ride.

In 07 it was low on power 21 its too powerful ?? But the suspension is still the best !!!!! Hhaahah .. I wonder if its getting harder for the test riders to complain about the tiny griefs thats between all the bikes . I feel like rm is kinda meh ... we good .. ktm is the ego.. henss husky..
yamaha is the tech.. honda is the leader with some flaws and kawasaki has power struggles. But is always 3rd.

Where is the others actually build them for the mass's of people who ride. Cause the years where Yamaha's were " not very good bikes ", that's the majority of bikes I would see at tracks. Cause they're fast, innovative and bullet proof reliability.
@@thisisben3593 Agreed! I’m a Honda guy but I’ve noticed Japanese manufacturers tend to cater to the weekend warrior or the person that isn’t quite as skilled. Me personally I’m not a great rider and I have ridden almost all brands and the Japanese fit me best and I love my 2020 crf250rx
Does it matter? Nobody can afford ANY of them 😂 ....I have 3 dirt bikes and even combined I didn’t come close to what 1 modern 450 costs...sorry but I’d rather dump 10-12 grand on something that doesn’t depreciate 10 seconds after I bought it

Just put my factory rm 250 2 stroke against eny of them my bike was faster and lighter . It takes a heavy 450 to run with a 250 2 stroke .. the only reason the companies went to a 4 stroke is because of the epa thank your government for making the bikes heavy and slower.. my bike 216 pounds with 53 hp . With a big bore kit 216 with 58 hp .
So a 4% reduction in weight is going to make up for 20% less horsepower and 30% less torque. Keep dreaming, buddy. Good joke though.
