Its an amazing story with how much development rooted from this gun. And i didn't know about this gun for years despite growing up loving military guns
Just got mine back from warranty today. Didnt realize how old mine was until you started going over the improvements and features they changed. The best way to describe this thing to someone is... dont meet your heros. It is light, has alot of firepower, but the trigger is pretty bad (worse than a mil spec AR by alot, making it hard to shoot fast), it feels flimsy with the polymer and the charging handle, and has more recoil than you would expect due to its low weight. The iron sights are more or less a joke, you really should be running a T1 or a RMR or similar up top.
I mentioned the TMP being one of the original ten guns in the original 1999 release of CS in the comments of the MP7 video. I'll list them here: First nine: Glock 18, USP .45, Benelli M3 Super 90, MP5 Navy, TMP, Colt M4A1, AWM/P, H&K G3/SG-1, and the M249 Para. Beta 2 added the Desert Eagle .50AE, AK-47 and Sig SG552 Commando.
I owed a DSA TP9 , it had a different setup for frame and sights. U-notch rear sight, forward bottom rail, and a cross bolt safety. Far more accurate than you would think, seems perfectly timed trigger reset to recoil impulse.
Good history and comparison to the original. That RBS model of suppressor is actually relatively new. The original B&T suppressor (SD-988400) did not have the RBS ports, internal sleeve, or gas routing; it was designed with high internal volume and the same dimensions as that current RBS model (SD-123304). Thanks.

I never realised Steyr didn't have a proper stock for the TMP, I always associated it with the same light side folding stock that the MP9 had, indeed quite strange that they didn't have one off the bat.
17:24 I see a potential where they could just put a 9mm case-sized cylinder extrusion in the magazine base, since, if we want to charge the bolt to clear malfunction, we would take out the magazine anyway and it gives us way, way bigger leverage than a small 9mm case
B&T offers a MP9/TP9 holster that allows suppressors. Also, the barrel shroud, there was a different threaded version offered in the US, when the TP9 was imported by DSArms.
Bureaucrats and time really. The bill says designed to be fired with one hand because that's how pistols were shot in the 30s. Atf says a vertical grip means it wasn't designed for one hand even though everyone shoots pistols with 2 hands now

(as if I could afford either on) I do not know if it is the fan boy showing through or if I just really like the 'time frame', and engineering they represent.
The Steyr TMP was the template of one of my first "BB guns". A piece so cheap I hesitate to call it an airsoft gun. The upper receiver essentially became the slide. It worked, until the plastic piston lip broke off. I tried gluing it on, but it didn't last long. The memories...

What an awesome video and weapon.
"If it has a vertical front grip it becomes a short barrel rifle" Man, the way politicians categorize guns is so insane. 😂
Bureaucrats and time really. The bill says designed to be fired with one hand because that's how pistols were shot in the 30s. Atf says a vertical grip means it wasn't designed for one hand even though everyone shoots pistols with 2 hands now
That bag is sick.
Such a great vid. Thanks for your indeapth work.
Very neat, good detail on its iterations Ian 😊
Love this SMG.
Always enjoying these long Videos with detailed History especially!
But that might be because i'm a Historian myself (for German History here in Munich) not Firearms. But definitely appreciate these detailed Videos Ian!
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
The T1 is a majestic red dot, even on a full lenght battle rifle, like the BM-59 it does marvelously his job. I really love the T1.
Steyr fan boy comment: Been waiting for this video for a long time. Thanks. Call me a weirdo but I have, for a long time thought that the MP 34 and the TMP were at the top of the list for full auto ownership. (as if I could afford either on) I do not know if it is the fan boy showing through or if I just really like the 'time frame', and engineering they represent.
Definitely one of my favorites. Especially as I own a TP9. I can't wait to file it to be an SBR so I can really start having fun with it.
Thank you for your lessons, Gun Jesus.
The Steyr TMP was the template of one of my first "BB guns". A piece so cheap I hesitate to call it an airsoft gun. The upper receiver essentially became the slide. It worked, until the plastic piston lip broke off. I tried gluing it on, but it didn't last long. The memories...
This and the MP5/10 are my favorite MPs of all time!
Would have loved to listen in on the conversations you had with the guys at B&T.
I love the long content videos Ian
23:30 It would be awesome if they could make the shroud a 1-3/8x24 HUB interface.
