Still using this monitor daily over 4 years now. For gaming just adjusting my settings and turning on Vsync for steady 60Hz does the trick really nicely. I don't see any need of an upgrade just yet!
Keeping in mind that the colors / brightness may have been tweaked. I was at best buy earlier today and saw this monitor in real life. The viewing angles are as good as this guy says they are. The image on this screen was the most crisp compared to the others that were on display. I might purchase this monitor myself.
they are just normal usb sockets. on the back of the monitor there are also two usbs, you plug in an extension cord in your computer and run it to the back of the monitor. then the two usbs on the side will be active.
Ok,i will buy this monitor (my old BenQ E2200HD broke now i have to deal with a 8 year old TFT 1024 res screen for a couple days lol).Your review convinced me.Thanks for the in depth review. :)
as soon as he said it was 8ms i was about to turn the video off, but it still turns out to be a brilliant monitor! definitely going to be buying two of these for my pc build. :D
i also use this one, i didnt knew its 8ms response time, never had issues with tearing or lag, searched up for its specs just cause im upgrading cause one side of my panel got darkened, and wondered what specs it was :) looks like those 1ms things that all are after now its just overated thing, never had issues even on fps games.
***** the reason it comes with pivot is because it's a work computer that's also good for gaming. For people editing portrait photos or even programmers editing code is fantastic feature to have. Also if you decide to get a 1440p 27" monitor later on its nice to have portrait style running for dual monitors so you can have Web browser open and music etc while you work on the 27". But if you have no use for it than you can always try something else :)
Excellent review, I have just bought one for delivery tomorrow. I game a lot so that was important, but I also do digital painting and concept art so the ips panel is important too. Your review has reassured me that I made the right choice :)
Hello, I wanted to ask you how you like the monitor. You own it right? If so, do you think it's suitable for gaming? Is there any ghosting or input lag? Please be 100% honest! I really need to know, because I do plan on playing a few FPS games here and there. And if there is any ghosting or input lag, is it terribly noticable? Can I live with it? Well I hope to hear from you soon, thanks!
I honestly don't notice any input lag at all, unless you've been used to a 120hz monitor then you definitely shouldn't feel it. It's a very nice monitor and the picture is great too :)
Sy Gardner Yes the input lag is very low but its still suffers from long B2B times. The data sheet of the U2312MH indicates a response time of 8 milliseconds (GtG). At 12.3 milliseconds, our measurements uncover a considerably higher value. The overall image construction time (there and back) for all 15 measuring points is even a little longer at 16.5 milliseconds. www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2011/review-dell-u2312hm-part13.html#Lag
Hey Nicolas. Really enjoyed your review. Subbed:) I'm torn in between choosing a Dell U2312HM and the Dell U2412M. Could you please do a review on the Dell U2412M ?
The top comment on Amazon.com for this monitor says that its Anti-glare hard coat ruins the monitor, they claim that looking at dark colours is okay, but looking at white backgrounds such as websites like youtube is bad, can anyone shed some light on this?
Nicolas your review was awesome. I have debated buying this monitor but have not because some of the versions of it have varied in quality. Could you tell me what version you reviewed. ie: A00, A01, A02, etc. There are rumors that Dell is shipping A00 (2011 versions) in 2013 and these are not so good. Thanks!
hi m8, i want to buy this monitor for gaming pc and i have some issues with the 8ms responce time - i play LoL and rpg but some times fps games but is rare.. is wise to go with dell or u have any better solution?? ps:keep up the nice work, i trust your reviews - greetings from Greece :)
he so is this a good monitor for 209.99 ? right now im using a 720p sceptre X23BV-Naga 23" hdtv for my pc so would this be a upgrade ? ps i love your videos their very good ! keep up the good work :)
hello great review, I think I also buy me one, I found it used at a great price. however, I wanted to know what program did you use for the monitor test thank you.
Take care what you recommend on your "10 of 10" scale: It's IPS, but of cheap buld - uses 6-bit matrix (uses FRC to achieve 16mil. colors). I have it broken after several years of use. It developed pink tint and moving "waves" on the left side. I guess that the electronics is failing, because it's not built to last but to be cheap.... Right now the TN screen on my Dell laptop looks far better than this IPS...
GREAT review. Got the same monitor cablesdrivers..like you.. But Have few questions if you can spare some time: where or have can use "connect" USB cabel 1:08.? Can i hook up speakers to monitor and waht cable do i need??so far i try to hook up mouse and keyboard nothing happend.am i missing something??? can i watch movies from USB key.i plug USB key with movies on amd again nothing hapend??.please help me what kind of cable(link .PLEASE) do i need to do all this.I will apreciate alot forhelp
Hello. I have one question, I bought this screen after you're good review but in my case there is a serious back light bleeding on the screen when on you're monitor you've mentioned that there is none, do you believe its a malfunction and DELL will replace that monitor (read about cases when this screen was replaced more then once and with the same problem)? Also my montion even tho bought in 2014 is REV-A00 which is odd. What is the REV model you've used for this video?
Hi nicolas, just wanted to ask a quick question, hopefully you're not to busy, i am debating between this and the new ASUS VX239H, my main use will be for console gaming so theres no need for a 120hz TN so i thought id go for ips rather than 1ms. i want a crisp image with as little ghosting as possible and decent response time. Thanks
When you rotate this monitor to portrait mode, do resolution and UI automatically sync (like on smartphones) or do you have to do it manually each time? Thanks.
somehow, i think dell is the best brand on the market. i also use dell. it's a bit more expensive than the other brand on every class. but trust me. it wont disappoint your wallet.
+randy hutajulu I think so too =) We got 2 Dell Monitors and a Dell Notebook. All of them are arguable perfect devices. You realy get the feeling that dell produces "professional" quality. The target group is obviously business customers, and that reflects in the quality and durability =)
If 60hz is enough for you and you can find one still in good condition then YES. One of the best things about this monitor is its almost non-existent input lag. This monitor was released in time where "IPS is not good for gaming" was widely accepted "fact". When Dell released this monitor everyone went "What!? IPS can do gaming?"
HELP PLEASE, i cant lower the height of my monitor, it seems to be like stuck or in locked position because i moved it to the top and it just stayed there, PLEASE HELP!
My point was, it has Displayport.
just got home from the Thrift Store with one of these monitors. looks great
Incredible review! You cowered all the things I was unsure of and much more! Feel really good about getting this, just ordered it!
This is likely to be the most comprehensive monitor review I have ever seen. Great video!
Agree, His reviews are always detailed, informative and not bloated.
Still using this monitor daily over 4 years now. For gaming just adjusting my settings and turning on Vsync for steady 60Hz does the trick really nicely. I don't see any need of an upgrade just yet!
How to hear audio from it?
Keeping in mind that the colors / brightness may have been tweaked. I was at best buy earlier today and saw this monitor in real life. The viewing angles are as good as this guy says they are. Best video review I have seen on this Ultrasharp monitor yet..
This is probably the best review I have ever seen so far. So detailed, informative and thorough. Liked and subscribed!
Awesome review. Probably one of the most detailed and complete I've seen. You convinced me to get this instead of a 23" Acer IPS.
Subbed.
Best product review I've seen on youtube. Thank you.
Thank you this video really helped me out, and answered all my questions. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
Nice review, I'm glad you explain the results of the image tests because my monitor isn't good enough to see the differences in the colours.
they are just normal usb sockets. on the back of the monitor there are also two usbs, you plug in an extension cord in your computer and run it to the back of the monitor. then the two usbs on the side will be active.
Really good review. I like the informative way you demonstrated the screen testing software. You should have more subs.

as soon as he said it was 8ms i was about to turn the video off, but it still turns out to be a brilliant monitor! definitely going to be buying two of these for my pc build. :D
I still use one of this and its amazing. There is no visible image degradation.
i also use this one, i didnt knew its 8ms response time, never had issues with tearing or lag, searched up for its specs just cause im upgrading cause one side of my panel got darkened, and wondered what specs it was :) looks like those 1ms things that all are after now its just overated thing, never had issues even on fps games.
@Lo Yes, Its a great choice for photo editing.
Now this right here is a fantastic review. Everything is covered.
gaming wasnt covered, nor was video.
Thanks for this great review!
This is the best review of this GREAT monitor!

Great review, I bought this monitor yesterday.
I love non-reflecting monitors, might get something like this.
For higher res monitors. HDMI and Displayport both have more bandwidth.
Great review dude, keep it up. I sadly have to part with my Dell 2007wfp and am looking for a replacement that wont cost a lot :)
Thanks for the review. I'm gonna buy it.
Awesome review as always!
100/100/100 - R/G/B and the Gamma setting is at MAC.
Nice

Thanks For This Review!

Thumbs up! Thanks for your review!!!
Very good very professional and very helpful.
Why would you need hdmi? The only difference between hdmi and dvi is that hdmi can "carry" sound but they produce the same image quality both!
great review, thank you so much
Thanks for the good review
haha, nice timing! i got paid today, and was thinking on buying a computer monitor, so i could get a dual monitor set up...
I wouldn't use this for gaming, Will surely look fantastic, but generally IPS monitors struggle a bit comparing to TN panels with input lag.
www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm
look at input lag
good job very informative.
Ordered one, I hope that i will not have backlight bleeding. I have Veery bad experiences with backlight bleeding.
nice review. thanks.
I liked the review but he was touching the monitor so pashionetly that i felt awkward!
nice review

lol you just got a faulty one then. have this screen for 5 years now and its good as new and colors are amazing.
I have dis! ^-^
If it's HDMI 1.4 or above, yes.
For the LCD test I want to mention, we are watching the screen test from another screen.
Is the screen really bright?
thanks for the review!
mind if you tell me what song at the end of the video?
How "ultrasharp" is it?
How does it perform in terms of gaming? Do you see any ghosting?
hold on the monitor is not touch screen?
why dell's monitor has higher ms/response?
GREAT review.
Got the same monitor cablesdrivers..like you..
