How To Draw Different Head Shapes
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 чер 2024
- This video is all about drawing a variety of head shapes. Starting with a basic standard head shape, we experiment with a variety of head shapes, feature distortion, and bring it together with some complete caricatures. Then we reference caricature from animation, and translate it to our own style. (I changed the title after Meredith pointed out that this is about playing with proportion, and not really caricature!)

"I'm not worrying about getting a final drawing that's really attractive, I trying to get SOMETHING that describes the shapes for me best. "
Every time he says something like that I'm like this is the best drawing ever lol
David, you're one of the best comic book artist of all time. So thank you for making these videos for all of us to learn from!
I agree, he is a GREAT artist, that is a your opinion but I think Jim Lee is the best artist
@@vengeance3914 they're both technically great artists, it just comes down to whether you prefer a darker style
@@notaperson3786 that's true
@@vengeance3914 yeah I know, I said ONE of the best artists. Jim Lee is my favorite as well.
Why do you think he is the best comic book artist of all time?
I'll just never get over the fact that David Finch is teaching me how to draw. Keep the videos dude!
It’s pretty awesome to see David use basic human skull future and watch his imagination go free while inspiring us to draw. Thanks for this awesome video
One of my favorite ways to break up monotonous crowd shots is to really play with gesture and caricature. Great video as always Dave 👍
This is useful in drawing aliens and otherworldly characters.
ikr hahahha

... oh
I was JUST looking into how to caricature faces and lo and behold, here you are. Thank you sir!
I must have consumed about 400,000 videos on faces and anatomy in the last 3 weeks.. this is hands down the most laid back.. and at the same time, informative and USEFUL tutorial in the entire 400,000 :) amazing job my friend.. we pay nothing for your time.. i hope these comments at least let u know that ur path is littered with thanks and admiration from anyone who watches your videos.. thank u so much!!
You did this perfectly. Its a big deal that the characters look different. Lends more credibility to the scenes. 😊🔥
Yeah
@@exedit4399 😉!
I’ve been looking at videos on caricaturing all week because I’m trying to find ways to “stylize” the features I see on real people! Thanks for this!
Ahhh 😌 i remember when this video was called how to draw caricatures😌😌
Honestly, your tutorials are absolute gold dust. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Even from the perspective of pure entertainment, the seemingly effortless skill on display is amazing to watch.
Your videos never cease to amaze me, especially how effortless you make drawing characters seem. You really are an amazing artist, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Thanks again for this one David. This is just what I needed since I've been trying to crackdown on faces lately, but I've been a little intimidated at trying caricature types. This tutorial really helped boost my confidence, and I'm even more excited to continue learning, and exploring what I can potentially do.
Those characters' faces are so captivating.
David I love you works because of your comic and realistic art style. I really appreciate your drawings 👍👍
Watching this at 1 am 🇵🇭, surely gonna learn something awesome
You're such an isnpiration for me! Thank you, David, for sharing these precious pieces of knowledge, tips and especially the drawings themselves! It's beautiful, fascinating and priceless.
Sometimes it’s so helpful to just watch someone think out loud through their process. This is so great thanks!
CONGRATULATIONS David and Meredith 100K subscribers you deserve it more than most. Best youtube channel of 2020, David's ability and willingness to teach mixed with Meredith's humor and conversation works perfect the live streams are great. Best of luck for 2021
Absolutely THE BEST art video on UA-cam!!!! GREAT(!) instruction, LOVED watching your process and thanks for how you talked through your process. (A) You’re a phenomenal artists, and (B) you’re a GREAT instructor!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
Again a great tutorial. Took me some time to find the time to draw along, but it was a ton of fun and a great exercise! And again - congratulations to 100k 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻😅☺️
I haven't been doing art at any substantial level for a lot of years. You are a big inspiration to me. Even though I'm getting older art has always been in me. Thank you so much for these videos.
Loving having this on in the back while at work, thank you for keeping people like me sane.
I love your art. So glad you are doing the UA-cam videos. Very entertaining and inspirational for artists.
Thank you so much David! I've been drawing in the same style since I was a kid. You have taught me so much that I was so close to, but couldn't quite see until you demonstrated it here. I've been drawing in a slightly cartoonist style like a Dragon Ball Z type of style with realistic bodiies. You've just now shown me that if I proportion my face structures into realism as well, the rest can be built upon that! I had an epifany, especially in the eye spacing, where I would put pupils, you start the inside edge of the eye, it's significantly changed everything by just one small insight. Thank you honestly so much Mr. Finch, I am back into sketching again because of you.
So helpful and inspiring. I don't have words to thank you enough or properly. I hope the young version of me, who considered drawing professionally once upon a time, finds your videos and learns and grows from them.
A lefty, like Jimi Hendrix, the Jimi of comics. Brilliant content, thank you for sharing your knowledge and insight.
Dave, you are awesome. Been drawing for a while, learing to draw people. Finding this very helpful. TY.. Jared. Utah
When I was a kid, we used to pass around photocopied sheets of a template booklet (this was way before internet lol), with alternatives for face shape, eyes, eyebrows, hair, nose etc. You were supposed to pick and choose what you wanted, and then trace these out onto a sheet of paper, constructing the face as you went. What you are doing here reminds me so strongly of that :)
😌
One of the best videos I’ve ever seen about drawing heads
A new goal for me to work on constantly. Baby steps first over and over until I feel comfortable to take walking steps. 😊
A new video on my birthday? Its a dream come true!! Can't wait to learn all I can from it.
Happy birthday.
Nice 🍀 and happy birthday bro 🎉
@@samankucher5117 thanks!
@@user-ht2fg3bz2f thanks
This is basically what manga and anime artists do to keep their art a bit more realistic than but also they’re able to play with the anatomy like the eyes, nose, and hair!!! Great video!!!
This was so much fun. Thank you so much for this. And thank you for all the advice you've given to help me start my own work.
I wanted to learn this a long time ago never got to practice
Thanks for the tutorial David
Have you reached arhat or bodhisatva yet?

Awsome work mr. Finch I love all of your tutorials it help me so much!👍👍
Awesome tutorial David! I seem to always draw the same head over and over, I need to start playing more with features and shapes!
First! Wow this is a rather unexpected tutorial can’t wait to watch it!
Dam it ..... one day I will be first 😏 but until then I'm going to draw faces 🍀
Oh wowww...Just the way you drew the head anatomy before you started drawing the details itself has made me learn a lot..Thanks so much for sharing..
The more I watch this great video the more I learn. Terrific!
That "Meet the Robinson's" character (especially the final version in your style) looks like a combination of The Joker, and The Riddler.
Also, thank you for this guide, it's really supper helpful. I've had a hard time figuring out how to make unique faces. This really helps.
Master at work. So impressive with the pencil
On my lunch break, no problem to watch this whole video Dave!🇺🇸
I would say this is the only video on the YT which explains how to draw different faces. Because otherwise I'm watching someone how just draw a head 101. Thanks a lot for this video!
A true inspiration David, thank you for these incredible videos.
Thank you for these videos, ive only recently decided to get back into art and your videos are helping immensely.

I /think/ this has been very useful. I've been kinda be of hitting a block about making my human characters more consistent, and more distinct.
I kind of got this far myself, by trying to do a few different, things but this feels clearer. Thank you!

Just dropping another thank you for the amazing tutorials 😀
Very interesting use of an eraser, to 'push a drawing back' obvious now I have seen you do it. I had always thought in terms of correcting a drawing , not developing it. Thank you.
Awesome video! Ive been binge watching your vids and I’m very grateful for them. Thanks! Trying to learn some tips because my 10 yr old likes to draw and I gotta keep up with her. 🤙🏽

Nothing better than enjoying a full David explanation without having Meredith yelling at him: DRAW! DRAW!! SHUT UP AND DRAW!!! 😂😂😂 ( though it also has to be said that Monday's streams are great because of her also, the interaction between the two and the chat is as entertaining as any Netflix series 😁)
She knows that David will stream 5 hours of giving the chance because he did that on Robert's channel .
gotta love that zero dislikes.......
Excelente video. Gracias por compartir.
The only video I've seen with 0 dislikes. Hopefully it stays that way.
