  • The box drill taught us how to properly hinge and unhinge our arms while creating space for the disc. We’re going to dive a bit deeper here and look at exactly what we are wanting to do with our shoulder angles.

Need a ‘Tear The Shirt Off’ drill. You come in like a box drill, then both arms and shoulders explode away from each other (like tearing off a shirt). Ezra talks about going from shoulder hunch in front (pocket) to shoulder blades touching in back (extension). This helps with to slow the shoulder turn while the forearm extends. Cool vids!

3:00 to 3:30 feels like a game changer to me. I haven't been able to throw and practice recently due to a lot of life stuff, but I made this realization during my last round about a month ago. Once I started accelerating out of the pocket and keeping my shoulders closed, I started being able to brace much better and feel some extra power.
I have a hunch that I was opening my shoulders up too soon, and I was never able to hit that full snapping point because it was moving further to the right/in front of me. Accelerating "out of the box" means you get to feel that hit a lot more.
I'm excited to work on it a little more now that things have slowed down for me and I'm getting more free time! Awesome video!

After years of playing fairly accurate but shorter throws, this business of creating space in the chest was a huge difference maker. Distance, longer range accuracy, everything was dramatically improved the very first time I incorporated this approach. Thanks so much for your insight.

This is exactly what I am needing I think. I’ve been throwing wobbly because I reach straight back too much. I will definitely practice a more 120 degree reach back

This makes sense. I have the issue of "swooping" around and not accelerating my arm out of the pocket.

Enjoying the updates, it's like a progression of vids to watch and tweaks to make as skills improve. I'd like to see and updated drill for how the lower body generates power and also throw initiation (trailing arm coming in). I worry all of these leading-arm-emphasis vids could lead to folks ignoring the lower body and start "pulling", which saps power and can lead to injury. Cheers, guys!

The defined release point is huge for me. My throws have been kinda unpredictable in the aim department, but locking in a release point in my pre throw walk up has made my throws go in the intended direction more consistently.. 👍.
The bonus part about this is even though in my mind , my release point is the end of my throw, in the actual throw there is so much momentum at that release spot that a nice follow through is automatic .it just happens

My brother had a one wheel, now he also has a reconstructed shoulder, probably the most dangerous wheel ever.

In my experience it is much easier to control than a skateboard, snowboard, or really any other board for that matter. I’m sorry about your brother’s accident. I’ve found that as long as you aren’t trying to push the speed limit on the thing, it’s a very safe boarding experience. But yeah. When you try pushing it to max speed and you lean past how much it can handle it nosedives. Which I experienced at one point. So I get it! But I’m in complete control of mine now.

I love your drills. I'm still going through your backhand playlist. Should I replace the old drills with the new ones or start with the old ones and progress to the new ones ? I would also suggest adding these new drills videos to the playlist.

If you are having problems with bugs around stick a few dryer sheets in your pockets/bring them with you. Bugs typically avoid them for some reason. I know it sounds weird but give it a go some time.
Edited to add that slide forward in the pocket from the back pec to the middle of the chest made a huge difference in my throws. Great tip.

Just wanted to say I shot PB at my local course. A neg7, not spectacular when compared to others but still respectable. I credit this channel to my successes. I may not be throwing as far as I want yet (really too lazy to bust out the tripod) but watching these vids before a round seem to drastically improve them. I think it focuses my mind to specific pieces of the swing and I just feel more dialed. Anyway Cheers and thanks for the awesome vids.

I like to think of twirly bird with shifting my shoulders forward right before the snapping point. Like that breaking down the door momentum+twirly bird.
Also do not consciously try to open up, stay loose and let your arm swinging open you up to the follow through.
Anyways twirly bird was game changing for me. I owe you guys a edible arrangement or something.

Good stuff again guys! Quick question, when boxing up the right hand should be loose but when we're unboxing should the arm still be loose or should we actively push the disc outwards from the body?

Instructions imply the shoulder turn basically ends at the box and doesn't continue until the hand has extended. I don't think that's ultimately the intention. Instead it appears the hand hits 10 o'clock when the shoulders continue to 2 o'clock?

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  Рік тому

The hand and chest will end up facing around 10 at the hit.

@@OverthrowDiscGolf oops I was joking (badly apparently) about the arm waving to keep the bugs off. I apologize.
In reality, your videos are great. Simple drills. Simple to understand (a requirement for me) and do.
In fact last night, after watching your twirly bird video, I was able to go out to the field, practice your drill, and then I started throwing about 30 ft longer. But, more importantly, it didn't feel so clumsy.
And, this is a biggy, it felt like I was throwing more consistently.
      Something I've been struggling with.
      For that I thank you
In fact, based off the twirly bird, I started doing twirly Karaoke drills across the field as I go pick up my discs. The hardest thing for me is to plant, start with the left and then throw. When doing the run up, I always want to plant and then pull the disc threw first with my left dragging behind it. With drill, that is changing.
Did I say thank you already? Well, thank you again.

@@OverthrowDiscGolf I was just watching a video of a newbie being taught disc golf. Right away the ole lawn mower analogy is presented. I remember leaning over and pulling the disc like I was starting a lawn mower. And then spending the next 12 months trying to fix all the problems that that created. And still am.
So wish I would have started with the twirly bird which is a much better drill to start with.

nice but are you sure about this, because heimburg use 90 degree thrue the whole throw, he kindof lock the elbow/overarm before release, and he is mostly throw farthest of all at competition on the course, you should not go past 90 degree before release, toughts ?

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf

Also, everyone’s body is different. Calvin has very long arms and his snap/elasticity is insane. For someone with shorter (regular) arms, 120 makes more sense. And if not exactly 120, at least more than 90.

its very simple... its about rotating the shoulders over the hips. get the difference between the shoulders and hips, and the shoulders swinging dynamically and smoothly over the hips.
