It's funny because I originally thought bladeborn units worked like RoR.
Side note, while I agree that there's way too many models, I never would have gotten into Warcry as much as I did if I didn't have a place where I could just play everything I had on hand while I was slowly building up my AOS army in 3rd edition, or while waiting to find out more about 4th edition. This is especially helpful for my play group, as one person mains BOC.
Condensing the compendium doesn’t necessarily mean removing actual models from the game. It could simply be smooshing redundant profiles into one profile and allowing players to use any physical weapon loadout on the sprue, but with there only being 1 or 2 profiles that they fall into instead of 3, or even 4 in some cases.
Other examples would be the need to constantly wizards into many, many wizards with their own abilities. Orcs falls into this trap more than once and it’s a bit silly if you ask me!
Taking a comb through each faction and ironing out the nonsense without removing player freedom to bring the models they want would be my ideal for sure
@@wargamesontoast That definitely seems like a healthy middle ground, but with 4th edition having standardized melee weapon ranges if this hypothetical profile condensing happened I would definitely want to make sure some of the granularity stayed.

I came to Warcry because of Underworlds. I played WF and 40K but stopped playing any GW around 20 years ago because of time/expense and just fundamentally bad game design.
Two years ago, I read something somewhere that led to me to discover Underworlds existed...from there I started also looking at Warcry and Kill Team. I decided to buy into Underworlds first because cheap, full game in a single box, and I had learned if I wanted to get into Warcry, I could use the same models from Underworlds in Warcry...something I couldn't do with Kill Team.
So there actually are people who came to Warcry from Underworlds.

Its the same stats as the grandspear , you lose an inch , but you gain the bonus attack on a double !

I'm new to Warcry, bought some sets to build and play, and from point one about counters I find that I'm feeling discouraged about jumping in. Is there a good way to get into the game while avoiding feels-bad moments with counters (and the other issues discussed)?
Oh don’t worry about the grumbles here. My responses are largely coming from a hyper-competitive stance. Counter, as grumpy as I get about it, is largely fine game-to-game :)
Warcry is an excellent system and whole lot of fun to play around with, so don’t get discouraged!
@@wargamesontoast Good to hear. I'll definitely be in casual play, but the biggest challenge will be convincing people to play with me (since there isn't a local community). I want to avoid handing my friends a bad experience from a major mechanic, if that's avoidable, so I'm glad it should be okay.

How about if you use counter your toughness is reduced by 1? Thematically you give up a bit of your defence to throw in some counterattacks
That could certainly work, although I’m not entirely sure it would make much difference for the biggest suffers of Counter - Aelves!
just to understand: the "Crypt Of Blood" starter set includes two "Bladeborne" warbands, right? Crimson Court and the Stormcast are UW warbands to begin with?

they should leave Bladeborn alone. You dont have to use them. I don't see the problem
I think they need to make it more apparent they exist since nearly every single blade born rule is locked to out of print books or WD. Thankfully we have Warcrier to fix that, but not everyone knows Warcrier exists. Having an actual PDF library of all Bladeborn from GW helps add legitimacy and awareness
Hot take: Underworlds is only kept alive because of Warcry. That entire line should actually vanish.
Underworlds is surprisingly popular at Warhammer World. It’s international appeal may not match its local appeal however
@ I played it when it first came out, and it was more popular than Warcry or Killteam in 2018, then not so much and not at all in 2020. Because it was heavily card-based, it was easy to learn but impossible to balance once they printed the cards. By the time it was too unbalanced, they figured out they could “retire” cards and release card packs, but that’s too much of a burden on players who want a simple and quick game.
