This is a great tutorial, thank you! I appreciate the tips about using the fusible fabric, such as spritzing your fabric to make more steam, and not to swipe the iron back and forth to prevent it from moving around. I didn’t know that!! I’ve only been sewing for a year or so, and I truly appreciate the tips!! This tutorial for making the mat is the best one I’ve seen, so thank you very much for your easy to understand instructions!!
I made this as one of my first sewing projects about 3 years ago and I still use it every time I sew today. I am looking to change my color motif in my sewing room so I will be making another one in the near future. This is easy to make and it makes you look like a professional when it's finished no matter if it's one of your first projects or you've been doing it for years. Thank you for sharing such a simplistic pattern, yet beautiful, functional and reversible mat with pockets that is a sewing space must have.
Do you have a tutorial on how to cover a design board? Or the ones to hold quilt squares. I have several vintage sewing machines myself but 3 are inside in tables but I could use one of these sewing mats under my featherweight maybe.
I don’t have that video on the design boards but I’ve been thinking about it. I made a mat for my Featherweight as well. You should definitely do it. 👍
@@SimplyThirdStreet yes I think Lori holt has one I might be able to follow. I have mostly coffee on my UA-cam but I want to add more crafty things. I like your channel. You do a good job with it. 👍
Can I use a thin interfacing as I haven't got a fleece or batting for mine. I did one yesterday with some wadding sheet didn't have any instructions with it. So I just used it and didn't say on Google if I had to iron it on. So now it's very bumpy but I will have to sew across and down it so it doesn't move as much.
As long as it’s fusible it shouldn’t wad up. Your mat can be as thick or as thin as you like. Fleece or batting will give your mat some padding but it’s not absolutely necessary. A fusible interfacing will give stability and be fine. If it’s not fusible you will have to sew some lines across so it stays in place.
Justina Fulmer I think it was a 4 1/2 or 5 inch pocket but I’d recommend laying some items down that you plan to keep on it and measure what size fits your needs.
This is the best tutorial so far on sewing machine mats. I like simple and no fuss. Thank you.
Thank you so much ☺️

Hello, I liked your tutorial, thank you for sharing! What size did you cut the material for the pocket?
what a cute project. Congrats on your first no pattern project.
What size were your outer pieces? 👍. Good job. I have a lot of fabric but can’t find my courage....afraid of messing up, I guess. 😏
I believe it was 18” by 20” or 21”. It would depend on how deep you like your pockets. 😁
Measurements please. Also what is the size of the fusible fleece you are using and the name and the weight etc please
Thank you for sharingg!! Can i knowwhat type of camera u used?
nurshaf nordin It was my Nikon J1 I believe.
